When/who made root for 4.0.3 5a OTA? - Sony Tablet S

I know that the guys that are making the modds here for the Sony Tablet S they said that for the moment there is no way to root the 4.0.3 5a OTA cose the bootloader is closed... but... anyone... is there another way?
I just bought the Tablet S... and without root und custom rooms is just no fun.
Thanks for your efforts and with great respect for your work.... greets from Berlin

on same boat like you , hope they can find out the way to root 4.0.3 r5a , this room got so much problem and i need wipe and install new rom stable

Yeah I have to say, I upgraded cause I was sick of getting the messages for months and months on end!
Upgraded on Sony Tablet S from OS v3.x to v4 R5.
Not sure why people call it "OTA" (over the air) when it definitely was downloaded via my Wifi!
So am I stuck? Am I locked? I thought this was the perfect device to experiement with!
p.s. How can we take a backup of the current ROM prior to rooting? Something I'd like to do this time when rooting my second device.
Cheers!

Why you didn't disable the upgrade message with condi's aio tool?
I have my tablet S with r5a rooted only because condi released the Flasher but I don't really see any diference from r5 to r5a

Why? Cause I got sick of it, and I figured the newer OS would be better!
The new OS is much better. Much faster. But several apps - I wish I could remove / uninstall won't go... Plus the stupid remote and other button at top of screen ...
Where can I find a list of ROM's that will support the Sony Tablet S device?
Anyone know?

So is 4.0.3 still not rootable, even with the latest AIO?

Where do I look to see if it is R5A? Or how do I tell? In about Tablet, Android version just says 4.0.3. It came OTA.

SK17i: upgrade to 4.0.2.A.0.58 before or after rooting?

Hi,
I'm currently running 4.0.A.2.335 on my Mini Pro,
I've been getting the message to update to .58 for a couple months now, but was waiting to update because I wasn't sure if I was still going to be able to root.
So simple question: update before root or after?
Grtz!
Its not important, important not to use internal wi-fi updater when bootloader unlocked. in any case you must get root after every update, because all data will be removed

You cant update your phone to .58 if your phone currently rooted. You need to unroot first then update then reroot back.
So the answer is update first, then root

For my own information: do you have an AZERTY SK17i, and if so, would you please do me a favour and post your /system/build.prop (after rooting of course, can't access it otherwise) here or in my thread?
I'm looking for the 'generic Belgium' CDA code Currently running a french one but it came with some very irrelevant apps and I have another issue with it.

Nothing has been changed yet (phone is not rooted and hasn't been flashed yet). Stock can also mean, 'running SE firmware' as opposed to a custom ROM, regardless how the SE firmware was installed.

Not sure for certain, I am currently bricked
I assume they may have patched it as they did that with R6a and R6b for Xperia.
Also why would they release R5a for US when they had recently release R5!
condi is working on a method to replace the recovery with the old one (before flashing new recovery) which also uses hie pre-root method
If you are on R1a DO NOT update.... yet!
Yes , I r1a ver. , but not sure up to R5A still with root , so I haven't update form ota...too poor

R5 changes recovery so ADB in recovery is blocked so the root exploit cannot do anything.

Maybe, waiting the JB is a good choice.
There is still another not so good way! You can contact the custom service, asking them back to original system(3.2.1 or other).

Stock 4.0.3r5a is not rootable. Anticipating your next questions: Your tablet must already be rooted to install pre-rooted 4.0.3r5a. You cannot install or downgrade to an earlier rootable release.

I can't help thinking there's got to be an opening somewhere. After all, how else can Sony's engineers reflash a damaged or corrupted system?
I guess it requires a level of access not available to ordinary users, though. What a PITA....
They can sign the zip offically so a reflash for repairs shouldn't be an issue for them I would think

The latest firmware update available for the Sony Tablet S is Android 4.0.3r5a, which is rootable using Condi's S.onyTablet.S [ALLinONE] Tool. At this time, there is no Jelly Bean update available or planned for the Sony Tablet S. Also, in the future, avoid being rude when asking strangers to do something for you.

You should not use capital letters because it sounds like you're yelling or demanding response
Also there's a lot of post talking about rooting and fw versions but....
1. For rooting use the AIO tool by condi like Cat McGowan said
This tool have the option to root any fw version of the STS
2. About all your data I recommend you make a backup of everything, in my case when I rooted mine my data was intact but as always do this procedure at your own risk
3. About overclocking kernel, we have locked bootloader so there's no way to do that even no custom roms
Regards!

I understand after going through Condi's post that I can root my STS. However it is still not clear if I can load a custom rom after rooting it? I like to install JB 4.1.2 on my Sony Tablet S.

[Q] Can I root but stay official?

I have a Sony Xperia Z Ultra, running 4.4.4. Is it possible to do a simple root (in order to make adjustments to the LED and sound), but not affect the stock ROM or over-the-air updates? I don't want to miss out on the official Sony Lollipop, so should I maybe wait to root until after that update is released? Thanks.
No, you can't get offical updates if you have your device rooted , although you can root your device till the new update is on the line. Just unroot your sony device get the update and then root it again. Otherwise try any other rom.
Ah, many thanks. I didn't realise that was possible. I thought rooted was rooted and there was no going back. Although I've rooted a couple of devices before, I'm still something of a newbie. Would you be able to point me in the direction of a good tutorial or website with instructions how to do a basic root, and un-root, on the Z Ultra? Cheers.
