New to Windows Mobile question about hacking? - Nokia Lumia 920

Iphone I had Jailbreak. Android I had root. Is there something similar for Windows Mobile 8 ? Just trying to learn this phone. I love Nokia and have always loved their phones.

based on Lumia 900 experience, well, good luck with that

Hi,
No possibility to unlock a Lumia 920 for the time being. Let's hope developers will soon be able to do it.

Can i unlock my lumia 920?
Hi, I'm new here.
I have a locked Nokia lumia 920 from Roger - Canada. I have the unlock code for its IMEI , i paid U$37,00 for it.
But i can't type the unlock code. I turn the cell phone , and appear the message: "SIM ERROR - THE SIM CARD IS MISSING OR INVALID. YOU CAN STILL MAKE EMERGENCY CALLS IF YOUR MOBILE OPERATOR SUPPORT IT."
The same message appears with or without a sim card inside it.
Somebody help me,please.

No there is nothing of the sort yet for this phone. It may come but I wouldn't count on it. Despite all the flack MS gets about virus and malware stuff they really are far better at securing their software than Apple or Google. Couple that with the fact that there are far less people trying to hack WP vs iOS or Android and you are in a tricky spot if you want to mod your WP device.

First of all this is not the right thread to be asking this question... But to answer you, you need a non-carrier matching SIM to unlock the phone. So if you have a Rogers device you need a SIM that isn't from Rogers.

There is no such product as "Windows Mobile 8" -- IIRC the last version of Windows Mobile was 6.6, more than 2 years ago.

Unlocking Orange UK Lumia 800...

Hi all!
My friend was bought a Lumia 800 for Christmas, but its locked to Orange and he does not have an Orange sim.
I have had a look on a few sites stating they can unlock it, but 2 have failed to do so so far!
And having to wait a week+ each time to see if its worked is just getting on my tits!
Anyone know of a place I can get an actual working unlock code
Cheers

Check ##782# in the dialer and it will tell you if it's definitely sim locked or not.
Get him to contact Orange and request them to unlock it. Maybe say you're going on holiday somewhere for a month...
This site could unlock it.
As it is early days it is expensive to unlock it due to certain technical restrictions. See this thread for an explanation and more discussion on sim unlocking.
Will check if its locked in a min, but im pretty sure it is.
Will try orange if the current unlocker i have orderd from does not deliver the code today!
I have tried UnlockLiberty.com and currently trying unlockitnow.com!
I expect it to be expensive to be honest but as long as we can actually get it unlocked in the first place would be a start
Cheers matey
Bought mine from the pcw and tried your # thing. When I dialled the # code it says its already unlocked

Orange can unlock it as long as you know the original mobile number that it came with. It will take upto 30 days and cost £20.42p. So if you can get it done elsewhere it'll be quicker and cheaper.

All said "sorry, not on the database, cant unlock"
One offered to send me an unlocking sim?
God knows what they is, never heard of it before!
Also tried to phone orange, but don't know the original number it came with, and they told me i would need to be on orange for at least 3 months before they will allow me to unlock... which is a freaking ball ache!
ARGH!

It's a small circuit board that sits between the SIM and the phone, they generally cost a couple of quid, and somehow do work.

The Lumia 800 uses a slim sim similar to the iPhone 4's dont they?...
Yes, a micro SIM.

Not sure if they will work with other phones...
Sure for a cupple of quid i could give it a go though haha

Well i have orderd a GEVEY TURBO SIM adapter to see if it will also work in our Nokia.
They do say for all versions of iPhone, but i cant see why it wont work in the Nokia...
Worth a shot anyway! haha
the reason no one is getting unlock codes from the suppliers mentioned for lumia on orange or tmobile uk is because the lumia is actually locked to a new hybrid orange/tmobile mcc+mnc network.
phones locked to this network are not locked to tmobile or orange, they are actually locked to both networks, try both sims and you will see for yourself, that the phone will take sims from both networks, but not any other.
T-Mobile and Orange UK have merged recently.
They have started locking newer NOKIA handsets to a new MERGED network MNC+MCC
NEW T-Mobile / Orange UK Merge Lock uses MNC+MCC = 2343300190233141
Older Standard Orange UK uses MNC+MCC = 2343300000000000
Older Standard T-Mobile UK uses MNC+MCC = 2343000000000000
*
Known models with hybrid lock
Nokia Lumia 700 locked to UK Orange or UK T-Mobile
Nokia Lumia 710 locked to UK Orange or UK T-Mobile
Nokia Lumia 800 locked to UK Orange or UK T-Mobile
Nokia E7-00 locked to UK Orange or UK T-Mobile
*
What About Other Nokia Models?
There will be more models released soon that will require this service too.*
Remember these are newer Nokia handsets, you wont need it for older models.
*
How to Check if Other Nokia is Locked To This New Network.
There are 2 ways to check orange and tmobile nokia handsets. to see if they are truly locked to the new orange/t-mobile uk network or are actually locked to the standard Orange UK or standard T-Mobile UK networks
*
Method 1.
Try both a t-mobile sim and an orange sim in the nokia phone
if the phone accepts BOTH SIMS = locked to new T-Mobile/Orange hybrid network
if only the orange sim works = locked to Orange UK network
if only the t-mobile sim works = locked to T-Mobile UK network
*
Method 2.
Read phone info using usb cable and this software
(software requires nokia pc suite installed first for drivers, full video guide @ the bottom of this page: http://www.imeicodes.co.uk/instruction/nokia.php)
If it displays config key 2343300190233141 = locked to new T-Mobile/Orange hybrid network*
If it displays config key 2343300000000000 = locked to Orange UK network
If it displays config key 2343000000000000 = locked to T-Mobile UK network
Which begs the question, are there actually any solutions yet? If we can't get unlock codes off Orange nor T-Mobile, as the 800 is locked to both, who do we get the codes off?
Ive tried sim-unlock.net and unlockdata.co.uk with no success. anyone else have other places to order from?
fonefun, thanks for the update on the carrier situation.
Does this mean that the database is only accessable by T-Mobile and Orange at the minute or do unlocking sites have access to the algorithm/codes too?

we have tested around 12 imeis before we put the service live. so yes you will start to see this service on other codes site as our resellers catchup to speed on this very new service.
the service is online already for single code buyers for the tmobile/orange hybrid network locked nokia handsets on the imeicodes website mentioned earlier in this thread. they take about a week to process at the moment. look for the "Special T-Mobile UK / Orange UK Nokia Unlock Codes" service on the prices page
Hi Fonefun,
Got a Lumia 800 from e-bay not sure if Orange or the hybrid network.
I can't seem to get the Nokia BB5 usb utility to read the phone config key. I tried the 2.5 version too.
The lumia doesn't use the nokia suite but Zune. I installed both with no success. I tried on both a Win7 and Win XP machine. The phone is recognised in Zune but not the utility.
Any advice would be welcome.
Jon
all lumia on orange or tmobile are hybrid
you wont be able to read the lock area using that software, because the lumia is different and cant be read by anything at the moment.
we read an e7-00 ok though with it, this is how we discovered the hybrid. after trying 2 sims in the e7-00 we confirmed this was the case.
so we got the lumias and tried orange and tmobile sims in them, and yes both worked, but any other sim did not, so we sumarised that the lumias are also locked to the hybrid network, we got the new hybrid codes for them and unlocked them, we tried on 800 lumia, our sources tell us all lumia are the same lock types for tmobile and orange also.
we put the link on for the code reading software to enable people to check newish handsets too because we simply dont have the handsets to try ourselves, so there may be more...

SIM unlock Nokia Lumia 710?

Anyone knows of a good way to SIM unlock the Nokia 710 for free via an exploit or program?
It's literally too new, nowhere will be able to unlock it yet. Cellunlocker.net are due to have codes for the 710 within a couple weeks, but I reckon it will take even longer than this.

Guess I'll play the waiting game....
Dude, it won't take long, seriously. I'm going to email cellunlocker.net again tomorrow to see if there's any progress.
---------- Post added at 07:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:58 PM ----------
I think they (cellunlocker) can unlock it on some networks right now anyways, it's only the more stubborn ones (O2 UK) that are a bit more tricky and take longer. If you're in the states then check with them now as they might be able to do it.
I tried cellunlocker and they couldn't do my 710 on Vodafone, so gave me a refund.
Currently waiting on Vodafone to get an unlock code for me (it was the same price with them anyway). Apparently Vodafone just put the request in with Nokia themselves so should be more successful.
Vodafone issue N95 unlocking tutorial for Lumia 710 - FAIL!
OK! I unbelievably got my Lumia 710 unlock code from Vodafone with 8 hours (yes! I said 8 hours). GREAT!!
...until you try to put the code in the phone. The code issued uses an old Symbian style code starting with #pw+, however it is impossible to enter the pw+ symbols using the WP7 dialpad. And just make sure it is more difficult than ever they link to an N95 unlocking tutorial.
Tried:
entering the code with the dial pad - no joy
creating a contact with the unlock code as part of their details - no joy
only entering the numerical parts of the code - no joy
No luck with these so I sent Vodafone email request to sort it out so I will keep you posted as to what's happening. That said, I'm not convinced they'll come back with anything as this seems to have been going on since December looking at some of the Nokia forums.
I tried putting in another network's SIM to trigger the 8 digit pin unlock prompt but strangely nothing happened. So either the Lumia 710 was shipped unlocked (again something I'd heard on the forums and a wasted £20) or the BT SIM card I used is accepted by the Vodafone networks as BT is an MVNO piggy-backing Vodafone.
I suspect the unlock codes issued are incorrect so trying to uses another more featured dialpad from the WP7 marketplace to enter the code would probably be pointless.
I suppose it's a question of sittingg this one out until WP7 - Vodafone - Nokia sort this out and start issuing 8 digit unlock codes.

Rooting HTC TITAN II help pls

any one can help me to root this HTC TITAN II
tks
oups ...

I am guessing you are a little new to Windows Phone right? Rooting is only done on Android devices.
Now to answer your question ...there are three levels of unlocking standards for WP. -I will post a link from the WP thread explaining these level of unlocks entirely when I am not busy.
http://forums.wpcentral.com/titan/189096.htm
A short a sweet version is (1) The Developer Unlock (2) The Interop Unlock (3) The God Mode Unlock -Full Unlock
As of right now, the Titan, Titan 2, - and any second gen HTC WP device is only able to do the developer unlock at the moment. -Developer unlocks can only side load apps. In order for us to have a custom ROM we must have an unlocked bootloader. -Which is also not currently available for our phones just yet.
Alrighty then, now you have a little understanding of what we can/can't do just yet. Tune in and be patient and we might get something soon.

Also may I add that $99 is not one-off. It is $99 per year.
The bottom line is if you are not going to publish apps, there is no reason to spend that $99/yr. Dev unlock only gives you ability to side load apps. That's about it.
Too bad, there are several apps that I would like to be able to side-load. But that is not worth $99 annually.
Thanks

if I buy a Titan II from the US, can i use it in India and flash a current/latest custom ROMs?
From my experience with a Titan 2 there is no way to install a custom ROM or even a Stock ROM, They were only ever released for AT&T and although you can unlock them for use on other carriers you will be stuck with AT&T setings and not be able to use MMS,
At least that was what I found out earlier in the Year when I purchased one from USA,
Best of luck.
Not completely accurate -
there is one stock ROM around for the Titan II - I haven't tried it, but there you are - no one has reported back after flashing it to say if it is useful....
If you carrier unlock a Titan II and take it somewhere else it will depend if the carrier you use has the same frequencies as AT&T, and also whether the HTC connections app can help you out. The app is designed to facilitate use of HTC phones on other carriers by trying to set up the connection specs for you. I don't know how effective it is, I'm on AT&T.....
So there you go....

You are correct! Thanks to the HTC Titan II, I made absolutely sure that when I bought another device it was the Titan I, not the Titan II despite it's better camera and LTE. I'm eyeballing one of the Windows Phone 8 models but I'm saying to myself if Microsoft and carriers have perfected making the Titan II bootloader unlockable then what will the future bring. Windows Phone 7 should have been what Windows Phone 8 is and I'm hoping with the formal release of Windows Phone 7.8 in early 2013 there will be more substance to the release than just the customized tile display; I mean for Christ's sake if that is all there is to it then release it to Windows Phone 7 devices. That said, I'm hoping what is released will allow us to run programs like Skype in background.

Windows 8 Update Portico

HTC 8x has started getting updates of the new OS. Any news on when Lumia phones will get the update?
No news, but I assume quite fast for unlocked phones. Rest are subject to carriers I assume.

Bypass carriers, yes. Bypass OEMs, no
This should mean that we get a 920 update for each "build" of the 920 that exists, once Nokia does whatever they do to it. They should have it from Microsoft (one would think) already.

They will have it already, and it's in Nokia's interests to get it out fast and ideally beat HTC to the punch every time, as HTC have been set up as Premier Partners. Nokia want to be THE choice for WP8 buyers, so they need to be there first with the best reputation for updates and excellent hardware.
Nokia obviously has that build available because the Lumia 920T (the chinese variant) is already running that newer build of the OS.
true, must just be waiting for the rollout ok from carriers. I'll check my 8X to see if that's updating on EE, that way we should know if the carriers are slowing things down or not with a quick carrier vs unlocked update speed comparison.
(Groan) I hope it's not the carriers. Pulling teeth with oily fingers is easier than persuading AT&T to release updates in a timely manner. :\

how do you know what rom is a generic one? I have been searching but i haven´t find it yet. can you help me'

Adding to that, does 4G still work on the generic UK ROM, as EE has 4G specific software bits, e.g. the 3G/2G toggle is now the 4G/3G toggle.
So, since I have a Rogers branded but unlocked phone and running it on Telus, what bucket would I be put in? Would I get the generic updates or the Rogers? My phone STILL says that the Mobile Operator Name is ROG-CA, so I'm not too sure what to make of my situation.

You will be under the mercy of Rogers. In order to get out of Roger's grip, you will need to be de-branded. SIM unlock means nothing. In the old days of WM7.0, you can jailbreak your phone and edit a registry to de-brand. Now, you pretty much have to flash a unbranded ROM to do it.

Well it doesn't have the name of a mobile network in the filename. I went from one with EE and UK in the filename to one which just says CV GB.

[Question] What about setting a bounty for NL920 bootloader hack

Hi guys,
what do you think about setting a bounty for a Nokia Lumia 920 bootloader hack or jailbreak for Windows Phone 8, like they did for the GS4 Active in this thread here.
Tell what you think about that, maybe geohot needs money

The reason why I own two HTC Titan (Eternity) smart phones are...it is the last Windows Phone that could be successfully bootloader unlocked. The next generation Titan, the Titan II (Radiance) is impossible to HSPL and no device since can be HSPL; no HSPL, no custom roms. It's is a very good phone with one really aggravating issue; it is believed AT&T deliberately throttled the device's mobile data speed. I'd buy a Nokia Lumia 920 in a heartbeat were it not for the fact that there isn't a branded WP8 app that couldn't be home-brewed or 3rd party created for WP7.8 with one exception; Skype but the news isn't all bad because it doesn't run flawless either on WP8. I wish you good luck in your endeavor.

There is Huawei W1 with unlocked bootloader, so I think WP 8 is not so unhackable, but nevertheless Huawei is very different then 920.
I'm in for such a quest..I donate money if we start raising such bounty.
