Navigation Bar from Another Rom? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I am trying to take the navigation bar from another JB(4.1.1) and put it in my own Rom, I took the SystemUI.apk as well as the framework-res.apk file, but the 2 buttons on the navigation bar don't seem to work, can anyone give me some pointers on what to do?

What are the functions of the two buttons? If possible will you be able to pull a Logcat while pressing both buttons?

1 Button is a Power off button while the other hides the navigation bar. When I copy the SystemUI.apk over, the buttons do appear in the firmware after I flash, but like I said when you click on them, they don't actually do anything.

their function might be coded inside framework.jar , or one of those jar files as framework-res is just for resources

Hi rez1,
When I press edit, all I can change is the number of home screens, not those icons!
Any other ideas?
Thanks
U will have to hold and drag an app to the bottom icons and it will be replaced. Try it.

Ah ok - worked great!!

Very vague description/title. You need to use an application to take a screenshot, as far as I know, it's not built into the OS itself.
Only on ICS you find native screenshot taking capability.

Sorry but this doesn't work for me. It works on my fiances SGP 4.0 when I slide my finger from the home button to the back button repeatedly but it opens up the recent apps list.

use your two thumbs and be faster!
home button (don't hold it) and then back button. push them both within half a second, so it looks like you push them almost simultaneously.
Well after looking at old ROMs and could get the apk to make screenshots natively, just have to copy the apk in system/app

I have that but it still doesn't work. I don't understand. Some of the things on my Galaxy, it just won't work. Like the zooming in and out of the camera when you use the volume rockers. Also, if you didn't know, when you hold the status bar, (just hold and it will dissapear), you can change the brightness. I had to download Power Widget Lite and add the brightness option and uncheck auto brightness once the widget is on the launcher. It's confusing.

That all depends on the ROM (except for the zoom, not available), I am using this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737432
I all works fine, look at my screenshots:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28080917&postcount=36
I am using the "No Root Screenshot It" app from the Play Store. It works with the native Player 5.0 OS (2.3.5) no root required.
I now am running Go Launcher EX and have just rooted my YP-G70 and the screenshot program still works flawlessly.

[Q] Remap Menu Key to Recents

Anyone have a good way to do this? I found the files in the /system/usr/ folder but I'm not exactly sure what to edit...

Sorry to bump my own post, but I figured out how to remap APP_SWITCH to MENU, but I can't seem to get the 3 dot overflow menu button to show up in apps (like chrome), or map google now/search to long press home or long press menu. If anyone has any insight on this I'd greatly appreciate it.
While this isn't exactly what you want, I think you should be able to enable the navigation bar to give you the virtual home/recent/back buttons and trigger the virtual menu button. I don't have this phone, but it should work to just open up the build.prop and add the line "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" (requires root obviously) and reboot. I've only done this on a galaxy s cm so it may go badly with a stock rooted... try at your own risk. If you do try, please respond (and post a screenshot ) as I'm curious and considering this phone.
I tried adding that line (again) but no luck...

It looks like (from the screenshot) that you have it =1, not 0. You want it to =0 because it's like saying false, there are no hard keys so android should add the navigation bar. Try changing it to =0, and maybe use a text editor like the one in root browser (free) and reboot. Let me know what happens
Wow you're right... stupid mistake on my part haha, I'll get right back to you after I try it again.
EDIT: Yup that did the trick. Not quite what I was looking for but cool anyways. Thanks!
Now is there anyway to remove the 3 dot overflow bar since my menu key still works lol

Can you post a screenshot? I'm not sure which you mean (3 dot menu or nav bar). Enabling the nav bar is just an easy way to get both a multitask button and the virtual menu button in an app's action bar. I'm not sure about just getting the action bar menu button, but if you don't figure it out it is a setting in cm10/10.1
Its not a big deal since I think it only applies in the settings menu, but yeah I would love to have cm 10 haha
Edit: Sorry about the ridiculous image size...

Any way to program long press of back button to kill app?
Sent from my LG-E971 using Tapatalk 2
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you have to mess with the systemui.apk to edit any of the long presses

Don't worry we'll see it as soon as cm 10 comes around.
Sorry to double post again, but does anyone know if we're able to theme the softkeys on this phone using similar methods as the galaxy nexus?

Some usefull apps I want... Are they out there?

Is there an app that puts navigation buttons on my screen? Mine were disabled during root and stuff... I don't want to fix the hardware ones... I just want buttons that are always on the screen. The app I have right now just uses a small icon that you press every time you want the buttons
And isn't there an app that blocks ads everywhere?
Thanks... Lol

Here's an ad-blocker:

as for your button, I think that maybe a framework modification may be needed. (unless there's an exposed module for it)

[MOD]Increase quick setting toggle access(swipe)

I apologize in advance if this is a repost, but I haven't seen this anywhere.
Along with modifying your quick settings toggle, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342370&nocache=1 you can increase the number of toggles accessible by swipe, default being 10 toggles.

You got a few options to remove those buttons:
1) Flash a custom ROM, from our lovely devs which include the mod to remove the S Finder and Quick connect buttons. (pref Allience ROM)
2) If you prefer keeping totally stock, you can do it yourself by rooting, deodexing the systemUI.apk, then decompile the systemUI.apk
modifying the status_bar_expanded.xml /res/layout/ adding android:visibility="gone" to the linearlayout.(line 14 in notepad++) then recompile.
Credits to Goldie for telling me how to do it!
