You should be able to unlock it as an HTC Evo 3D.

youre correct....wife has an evo 4g original still and i unlocked it the same as the evo 3d

Look at the sticky threads in the development section. The method of root you'll need will be based on your Hboot version.

Hey you should check out qbking77's YouTube videos he walks you through rooting. It's fairly easy to get root.
