[Q] nOOb help request for first time rooting.

Hey all,
I got an Xperia Mini and want to root it. I have read through the forum and threads and I think I have an idea, but I want confirmation.
I have the 4.0.2.A.0.62 kernel.
The help here said that I must follow the instructions of the tutorial here. My questions are:
1) It says Please note that this is only applied to devices with unlocked bootloader. Is my phone's bootloader unlocked as is now? Do I have to do anything to unlock?
2) I don't understand the second step properly. Do I turn the phone off. Hold the volume button and while holding it, attach the USB cable to the PC? Does that put the phone in fastboot mode? What about any drivers the computer would need to talk to the phone?
When I use the phone's dialer app, there are these things in the corners when I am talking and I end up tapping the hold button often. I want to get rid of that. Is there a way to do that?
Thanks for any help
use this if u want to unlock bootloader, u cant go wrong using this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613
after successfully unlock, u can just flash any custom kernel using that tool too. the kernel will root your phone automatically.
edited: but if u just want to root without messing with bootloaders and kernels flashing etc use this

Hey man,
Thanks for that. I bought the phone off amazon. Is there anyway to check if the bootloader is already unlocked? Would there be issues if I tried to unlock the bootloader with the tool you linked to if it is already unlocked?

I was going to use the zergrush method, but there was a note that said that if you have the 0.62 firmware, you should follow the fastboot method for which I need an unlocked bootloader.
open the phone dialpad and type *#*#7378423#*#*, the select service info, then configuration.
lowest line under "rooting status" what does it say?
Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes
your bootloader is still locked and can be unlocked. u can proceed with the unlock tool if u want.
btw forgot to mention, if u managed to unlock u can check in the same menu and it'll show "Bootloader unlocked: Yes". and good luck with it
You don't need to unlock your bootloader to Root your phone. You can downgrade to .58 using Flashtool or WontanServer and then root through Zergrush method

[Q] Need Root - Confirmation Pls

Been reading the guides but I need confirmation. Pls correct me if I'm wrong.
my goal is to get ROOT on the stock ROM and the ability to unroot if needed.
In order to obtain root, I must:
- Unlock bootloader
- Install CWR
- Apply the Superuser file or install a custom ROM with root
If I go through this method, can I reverse everything? Like re-locking the bootloader, remove CWR, and unroot?
Am I missing something simple just to simply root the device? Pls advise. THX in advance.

Rooting part is correct.
To unroot, relock bootloader and flash the stock ROM. Simple as that.

Hey Guys, I heard it is possible to unlock the BL via the Flashtool itself instead of the tedious cmd line executions and stuff, Is it really possible to unlock the BL with the flashtool itself?
If yes, Can I you guys give me the instructions? I already have rooted, just need to unlock the BL.

I know you don't want to do the stuff but there is nothing difficult, you only need to execute 2 commands in the procedure. Its quite easy IMO

Simple root??

does anyone know if theres a "simple root" method for the m8??
Is unlocking bootloader, flash recovery, s-off all required just to root? I don't care about any of that stuff.. I just want a simple root
if thats possible

Unfortunately, unlocking the bootloader is required for the ATT variant to obtain root. Easy way to do that is this toolkit:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699065
Unlock the bootloader, then you can flash a custom recovery and a superuser zip
S-Off is not required for rooting.

yes there is a root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900
bootloader unlock is only if you want to install a custom kernel
in your case you can unlock the bootloader if you want to run CM/ASOP.
if you want to stick stock absed roms, dont unlock boot loader use the easy root method in the link above.
