Hi all -
I'd like to create a new custom ROM. Can anyone provide some reference materials ?
Thanks !
Maybe try the Q&A

I'd PM one of the devs, for starters. Who knows better on how to create a custom ROM than somebody that's already doing it? Hit up mikeyXDA (MeanROM and MeanBean fame) or Viperboy (ViperROM fame), or one of the other countless devs for this device. I'm sure they can get you headed in the right direction.

or you can read one of the million guides on xda.
dont pm one of the devs unless you have to.
try and learn for yourself.
i guarantee theres some information on xda for whatever youre currently looking to do.
the search feature and google are going to be your best friends.
So, there comes a time in each man's life when he wants to create something of his own. What it sounds like you want to do is add mods and themes to an existing ROM. This is called winzipping. If you do it right, people will try to buy you a phone. But be warned: it is unethical to lie about your sources, and under the GPL your source must be made available so we _will_ know. That said, the source is all available.
You can probably start at xda-university.com

Take a stock base rom, and edit away. Learn how to use apktool and 7zip

Learn how to compile from source too. I had a lot bugs when I tried "winzipping" as the cool kids call it now. I am going to retouch my g2x miui rom just for fun and finish it. And start something on my evo just don't know what yet.

here is the iida infobar a01 system dump, it is only 200mb, can someone please download and poke around to see if it is possible to port this to the 3vo?
I have already read that it could be a huge task to port, but I have faith someone out there can make this happen
I realize there are a ton of ROMs for the 3vo now and I appreciate that, but this UI is WAY different then anything out there.
here is the download
http://www.mediafire.com/?s90sy14xonxanut
here is the UI in action for those who don't know

I don't know where else to post this, so please move if this isn't a DEV issue.

this is the second time you have ignored the rules and posted this in the dev section. did you not learn the first time? read the rules, and abide by them
ps, looks stupid, you loose all widget support, if i wanted retard tiles i would get a wp7 device.

well actually this is development related since he posted a system dump
Looks interesting I don't see why you couldn't compile it against a device config for our device like the one on preludedrews git and use his soap kernel might boot
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Isn't this development??
Also, no, donsim you are wrong, the Widgets can be used on a different screen.
The custom ui is vertical but if you swipe left you get a standard android home screen, the base is android 2.3.3

Looks great, hopefully someone can make it work.
Thanks for sharing.
BTW the iida device has a qHD screen like the 3vo...same resolution
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
This might be fun to play with ill see if I can get it goin guys if i make any progress ill let you know I got kingdom booting on tbolt I think we can get this running with a proper aosp kernel
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Awesome thx looking forward to progress!!
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
That's great...Thank you!
Looking forward to it.
It appears to be puts together reminiscent of mui in file structure there is hope for this to boot but as far as support depends who wants in
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Well, I'll test it out if it gets that far...
Thx for input, maybe if there is enough demand, some others would jump in
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I will test too.
Gotta admit...looks pretty cool. Gonna involve some translation also. Language packs? Anybody contacted the actual dev of this yet? Lotsa talent here, I'm sure it can happen.
I would definitely test...
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
The phone supports English, I have been using it for most of the day. I guess language pack included?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Looks good, hope it gets ported.
Need kernel dev should have everything else in place to get a boot it boots now but won't load the emmc partitions for our phone so won't get to boot animation
At least that's what logcat says
Op can you get boot.img from this device
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
How do I get the boot.img can someone walk me through it?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Love different things, that's why I love Android. Would be awesome to see this.

You may refer one person per each post with a little backup words, on why did you choose him ?
The point of this question is to find that skilled developer and try to know how he started on developing apps so we can try do the same as he did
1 2 3 start!!
Ps: Dont forget to link his profile and his work too.
Studing maybe?

Im sure those ports are using CYANOGENS code. So, with that said, it is by far Cyanogen. 99% of the custom ROM's use code from cyanogenmod.
I admire cotulla because of what he has done for the hd2, but I'm more than sure we have devs equally and more talented, just don't know them.
$1 gets you a reply
u cant ask that
cause there are many more than good developers on xda

I couldn't agree more. All of the developers have their own niche. There are ROM devs, kernel devs, app developers.
Absolutely no offence to the op . It's kind of like asking who makes the best car parts (best analogy I could come up with off the top of my head ). There are so many parts that go into making that car work.
Edit: Thinking about it, maybe a better question would be "Who are some developers that you would like to recognize as being just plain awesome at what they do?" These are the people who do their best to improve the community by dedicating hours of their lives to giving away the cool "thing" they made without expecting anything in return. There are so many of those people around here.
Dsixda because he created such a wonderful kitchen for all of us and made Porting ROMs a breeze
No, im not a noob that wants to know how to create a custom rom. I would actually want to create one, but the job seems pretty tough for one person. I wanted to organize a team of people (no name yet) to help create a custom rom- a rom that blows the minds of evo 3d users. its no easy task, thats why im looking for experienced users to help me create one. Give me a pm or reply to this thread if your interested.
I am ready to beta test anything you want me to try out

there are already a crapton of really similar roms for the 3d, what features should this new rom have to differentiate from them and why you want to make a new team and not contribute to one of those already working?
Not saying that you shouldnt, just curios about why somebody would want dilute even more the developing process and reinvent the wheel
Join team viper and dev sense 4.

Actually I want to create a time that is mixed in with android 3.0 and jelly bean. I want to call it honeysense, featuring sense 3.X
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Sense 4 disentangle offer alit of customization options do to it's graphics folders being inaccessible. Me and many other developers don't want to do a half theme.

i dont mind helping shout me a holler bro and we get started
Can you show us something you've developed so we can see that you aren't actually a noob hoping for a freeride on a dev team? I don't mind noobs at all and I admit I don't really know much about anything when it comes to developing, but if you're acting like at a developer when in fact, you aren't, then that would be a problem.
Now, you should be a bit more specific.
Do you plan to develop for GSM or CDMA?

Cyanogen had a good post on the subject from a while ago with some advice and links here. One of the links in the op is broken but someone finds a new link for it later in the thread.
I've also heard good things about the bootcamp vids.

Looks like more negativity then positivity to me.... i think it just might affect us, if their ignoring, shafting and trolling contributers whos going to want to contribute? Looks like CM has joined my ignore rom list alongside Flex360........ oh well, they come and they go and more devs come & create greatness

I think they accomplished what we would all hope for profitability. Doesn't make the tech they put into the now called products they build any less just means they have to play by a different set of rules and the challenge to produce the same quality of work will be impacted. Sure as users we will lose and gain some features. I just hope they don't forget how they got to where they're at and start charging us or worse stop free rom development.
That's what I'm thinking. CM isn't going to be free anymore.

I'm pretty sure its illegal to sell something that's free/open sourced. CM cannot use android and make a Rom and then sell it. Android is open source.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
True yes but then they are Inc. which means as soon as they are contracted to make a retail phone rom then why would they keep making a free rom. It maybe open source but open source does not mean free. May mean that you can use the codes libs and so on for your own development but if it were free red fedora and Ubuntu wouldn't be making money.
KillerofJoy's i535 Rocking MOAR, and CM 11. Can't be helped, flash junky.
I don't believe it would be a bad idea.
