[Q] Can't boot nor install anything - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, was running C10 and wanted to test a few others to compare battery life. I checked the dev forum and wanted to check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854.
Downloaded, rebooted, cleaned and flashed with the dorimanx kernel and most default options. On reboot, things came up nice, but I had 0 bars, and when it said turning on wifi, it found nothing nor can I get past that since there is no keyboard (reading about that now!)
But, rebooting into recovery, thought I would restore a nand, when I select restore I get Can't mount /sdcard!
If I goto mounts, mount /sdcard I get
Error mounting /sdcard!
I have the original CM10 local but when I try to flash that, it crashes with a bunch of getprop errors, so now pretty much stuck.
Any help is appreciated.

Scrub that. Sounds like recovery is broken. Best thing would be back to stock via Odin then re-root (flash Odin version of Siyah or similar) then maybe trying restoring your backup again.

When I plugged mine in and tried, the one tried failed, so figured I would look and get another, and on reboot the phone and have the following error;
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again. I didn't have it installed, but I am guessing something broke when ODIN tried to update. The problem I have now is when I reboot and go into download mode, I plugin the USB and ODIN never lights now!
I have the normal download screen;
Porduct name: GT-i9100
Custom Binary Download: YES (1 counts)
Current Binary: Samsung official
So that does look right, but now even more frustrated! My wife has a samsung and uses KIES, I did plug it in there and no USB confirmation beep, as well as its not listed in the emergency firmware recovery.
Thanks and still looking!

OK. So when you hook the phone up to the PC via USB & get Odin going, you don't get the yellow ID:COM box ?
In that case, try as many of the following as you need to:-
*Must run Odin as administrator in Windoze.
*Ensure Kies & it's processes aren't running in Windoze task manager. Kill them if they are.
*Try different USB ports; you must be using a 'powered' or mainboard port.
*Try different USB cables (particularly the cable that came with the phone if you're not using it now)
*Try different versions of Odin (search on here/Google)
*Uninstall Kies, reboot, redownload another copy from Samsung's website & reinstall it, reboot, try the flash again.
*Run Windoze Update.
*And if all this fails, try a different PC. If it won't work first try on another PC, go thru the above steps on that PC.

I'm screwed! I was installing

CODE_I9100XWKE7_CL215725_REV02_user_low.tar.md5
GT-I9100-CSC-XEUKD1.tar
and something happened in Odin3 and it froze, so I took the battery out and tried to restart it and now all I get is a blue and yellow screen that says Android System Recovery. I don't have anything backed up on the device, it didn't come with a microSD card, and it now says
Deleting Cryption Meta Data
-Copying media files....
#manual mode#
updating application....
applying multi-CSC
and that's it. When I hit reboot phone all I get is a screen with a triangle and an android symbol and when I hit apply update from sd card, same symbol, even when I tried to put a .TAR file on my dad's EVO microSD card and put it into the galaxy.
Also, now the USB cable doesn't recognize my phone for some reason so when I go back to ODIN mode it says
Product name - GT-i9100
Custom Binary Download - Yes (1 count)
Current Binary Samsung Official
When I try to restart the phone, it goes straight to the android recovery screen mentioned above, where I can't do anything, and then when I get into the Odin mode, it won't recognize the usb cable so I can link up to Odin3 V1.83 on the computer. Also tried the usb cable on other computers didn't find my phone. Also, as of right now it's not rooted, but I was in the process of rooting, when I realized I missed the Over the Air step so when I Odin3 an insecure.TAR file the WIFI was broke so S2 Root kept saying can't find usb connection even though it was connected, and somewhere along the line when I was trying to restore the radio's by installing the 3 files above, when it crashed something messed up? Now I can't do anything. PLEASE HELP
SO I AM STUCK! Please help????????

I know this topic is old, but I am essentially having the same problem, I don't think it was really solved for the first guy, he can't flash the original rom using odin, because odin doesn't recognize his phone. And that is my issue too, I'm able to get into download mode/odin mode whatever, I plug in the usb cable, nothing, odin doesn't recognize it, I don't get a little sound like I do when I usually plug in a usb cable. Please any ideas would be appreciated.

Try different versions of Odin (for example, if you're using V4, try V3 1.3 & V3 1.85 and vice versa), try different USB ports (particularly if you're using a port attached to a hub. You need to use a powered port), different USB cables & finally different PC's/different versions of Windoze if you need to.
Also, when you fire up Odin, check Task Manager in Windoze & make absolutely certain Kies or any processes associated with it (if you're not sure what these are, Google/search for them) are not running at the same time. As I've said, you need the drivers that come with Kies to use Odin, but Odin won't work if Kies or anything associated with it is running at the same time.
Try uninstalling Kies on your PC (you need the drivers that come with Kies for Odin to work), rebooting, reinstalling Kies (search for it), rebooting.
If none of that works try cleaning the USB socket of the phone a Q-tip (cotton bud) & some isopropyl alcohol. And if that doesn't work, it might be a case of the USB circuitry of the phone being shot (unless you haven't tried the above steps or are not following the right steps, which we'll never know because we're not there with you).
Was also having the same problem. I managed to get round it by flashing an I9100 package with all the files (PDA, PHONE, BOOT, CSC, PIT) and ticking re-partition. If I'm right, this completely wipes the phone and flashes this over, basically leaving you on a fresh slate.
Hope I helped!

Using PIT files is not recommended more brick a phone by flashing PIT than rescue it .

Hi
It seems u tried to flash a sammobile firmware so look to their forum. Why dont u try a phone service?

[Q] Help ~ After flashing firmware.

I Did what as mention in the firmware change guide.
everything seem to go fine.
after flashing the firmware with odin the phone auto reboot, it can start but after the samsung logo and then it don't move anymore
i can go to xRecovery and Downloadmode.
Anywhere to get the phone back?
Boot into recovery & do a wipe/factory reset.
Done, still can't ><
Well you didn't say that in your OP, did you ?
Bootloop thread. Pay particular attention to the title of the thread (might want to read the thread as well).
Hope it work. I Trying to flash the rom now :X
Erm, i tried to flash the PDA/Phone/CSC
but it almost end and it stuck at the flashing there?
i waited for nearly 10minutes?....
That's either a bad download (I'd re-download the package you're trying to flash) or you need to go thru the following steps:-
Stuff to try when Odin doesn't work
*Must run Odin as administrator in Windoze.
*Ensure Kies & it's processes aren't running in Windoze task manager. Kill them if they are.
*Try different USB ports; you must be using a 'powered' or mainboard port.
*Try different USB cables (particularly the cable that came with the phone if you're not using it now)
*Try different versions of Odin (search on here/Google).
*Uninstall Kies, reboot, redownload & reinstall it, reboot, try the flash again.
*Check the rom/kernel you download for corruption. Programs like 7Zip, IZarc, WinRar, etc will allow you to 'test' the rom file you download. If there are any errors/any of the files fail the test, bad download. Try again/try downloading with a different internet connection if it keeps happening.
*Run Windoze Update.
*And if all this fails, try a different PC.
If you do get to the last step (trying a different PC) and it doesn't work first time on the other PC, then you go thru the steps with that PC.
Wait now i'm having a problem
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again
HELP Please! ><!!!

[HELP] My i9100 has soft-bricked and odin doesnt pick up my device

lemme start by saying what i did that caused the problem
i installed PFittech 1.0.4 and everything was moving fine untill touchwiz began FCing alot. i dont use touchwiz anyway (as i had set Apex to default) so i thought i could remove it safely without any reprocussions. i used titanium backup to do a force uninstall but the phone rebooted into a black screen. I cannot get into recovery move at all so i tried to reflash the kernel in hopes that my recovery would be fixed.. I got into download mode just fine but neither odin or windows can connect to my phone
i really need help because nothing from the other posts related to this topic is working, i followed a few other posts and nothing is making odin pick up my device in download mode

dont have another pc available so im stuck with this one, tried other USB cables, tried running odin as administrator, tried uninstalling n reinstalling kies, tried another version of odin (1.87)
nothing is working -_-
i should mention that when i attempt to boot normally, the PC is able to discover the drivers and connect to the device. even MTP connects and im able to view the contents of my phone's memory (for some reason, its all 0MB in size)
based on my readings, havent heard anyone having my specific symptoms for my phone.. im getting more and more depressed because i use my phone so much and now that its down and i cant fix it.. just feeling sad :crying:
and all this because i tried to uninstall touchwiz.. :crying:
ok this is what i will try doing
since my PC recognizes my phone only when it boots normally, i will try to flash a recovery image by dropping it on my SD card, then flashing it using droid explorer's "flash recovery image" option - REALLY hope this works
EDIT
nope - not working, even after flashing using droid explorer phone reboots into black screen, no recovery, no nothing..
i recently tried odin3 v 3.04 and odin still doesnt detect my phone in download mode.. drivers are still saying "unknown device" when i boot into download mode.. ive uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted both pc and phone so many times i just feel helpless right now.. like i should just give up and buy a new phone
Need this question answered
does odin pic up the ID:COM on a device whether it is in download mode or not? based on what i read here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1484607.htm
odin is capable of picking up on an ID:COM even if the device isnt in download mode - in my case, odin isnt picking it up at all nd as is, windows is still able to pick up my device if i boot it normally and load MTP and the correct drivers
24 hours now since problem occured and i have made no progress whatsoever.. feeling like giving up.. dont know what to do, and dont think anyone can help me anymore -_-
After 26 hrs of talking to myself and dedication - i finally solved my problem.. i decided to update my windows base and cleared the registry on all installations and all current associated drivers, reinstalled kies, updated new drivers and when connected my phone which was in download mode my phone connected as a "gadget serial" device.. with this - odin was able to pick up on my phone and i flashed a new kernel + recovery.. with that flashed back my rom and bam - back to status

Just an observation... isn't this more or less what MistahBungle said to do in his post in his last suggestion? (short of clearing the registry entries, which is a good idea as well.)

honestly, i tried everything he suggested, but i suppose without the windows update + updating the USB drivers through kies (not download them by themself) - i possibly wouldnt have been successful. i read a tutorial that told me that kies could put my phone into download mode for an update - so what i did was clear registry, uninstall all current drivers and manually made kies reinstall them.. then after that, connected my phone while it was on (with the screen still blank) and selected the option to peform firmware update from kies (which put my phone into download mode) from there, when my phone got into download mode the new drivers loaded up and thats when odin was able to connect
in my situation, the constant plugging out and plugging in and hoping windows by itself could pick up the drivers never helped at all.. few people stated that i didnt need kies and that it interferes with it so what i did was only install the drivers and got rid of kies.. however in my case if not for kies i wouldnt have been able to connect to odin

[Q] [OOPS] boot-loop on mobile-odin flash.

hey, I kind'a messed up.
I have a i9100 (i9100T, but it makes no difference, just like the normal i9100), has android 4.04 xwlpy with the appropriate CF kernel.
thing is, I downloaded the XWLSD update, and updated it through mobile odin (without ANY wipes, not dalvik and not cache).
after that, I'm in boot loop with no recovery mode, but I can still get in download mode.
I would flash a new ROM, but odin (or the PC in general) won't recognize my phone.
I think it didn't recognize my phone before the flash, but not sure.
tried redownloading and reinstalling the drivers (& restarts) several times, no change.
what can I do?
THANK YOU SO MUCH in advanced.
Install Kies.
Try connecting to ODIN again.
Flash Siyah v6 beta4
If above doesnt get system booting then reboot into recovery and do full backup then wipe data/factory reset or better still use kernel/rom wipe scripts.
Once system has booted install/run appextractor and restore apps/appdata from nandroid backup.

This is why people shouldnt piss about flashing with mobile odin unless they have a working pc odin set up.
Same goes for people with dodgy usb ports....

tried different USB ports, odin vers, and PCs...
and yeah, I deserve the "noob", i suppose..
thank you three!
Then I suggest you keep trying. You're not fixing it yourself unless you somehow get your phone & PC to recognise each other.
*Must run Odin as administrator in Windoze.
*Ensure Kies & it's processes aren't running in Windoze task manager. Kill them if they are.
*Try different USB ports; you must be using a 'powered' or mainboard port.
*Try different USB cables (particularly the cable that came with the phone if you're not using it now)
*Try different versions of Odin (Try V1.3, V1.85 & V3 last; search on here/Google)
*Uninstall Kies, reboot, redownload & reinstall it, reboot, try the flash again. Also run Windoze Update.
*Run Windoze Update.
Then you try another PC. And if it won't work on the 2nd PC, you go through the above steps on that. If it still doesn't work it's either user error (could be something really simple you're not doing/not doing right; would be impossible for anyone here to say as we're not there with you) or borked phone. JTAG or service centre.
They're the things you need to keep trying, there is no other way you can fix this.
Got it. Gonna keep trying a lil more and then take the thing to a service center..
Thank u all.

[Q] Soft-bricked, two versions of ODIN hang, out of ideas

I'm running a Samsung Galaxy S2 (SGH-I777) with the Shostock 3 ROM using the instructions from GalaxyS2Root (which I have since learned was not wise, but hey...you live and learn.)
Last night I plugged it in to a new charger, and when I woke up the phone was frozen on the Galaxy S2 Splash screen (the one with the yellow exclamation mark and the model number). I've tried several things to get it back, but nothing seems to work. I have tried:
•Getting back to stock using the I777UCKH7-CL503881-No-BL download from the "getting back to stock" thread at XDA but it hangs on the "cache.img" step, and now my phone shows the "firmware upgrade encountered an issue..." screen. I tried this several times with Kies installed, on, off, uninstalled and drivers only, and nothing made it past that step.
•Installing the latest firmware from sammobile.com via Odin 3.07. It gets to the "factoryfs.img" step and then gives me " Complete(Write) operation failed. All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)" despite re-installing drivers, switching ports, and doing it without the battery in. Also now the box with the phone's ID is blue, not yellow, despite further driver re-installs.
•Installing the Siyah Kernel, also via Odin, where the same error message occurs after "NAND WRITE START."
I have spent the better part of my day working on this, and I am completely out of ideas. As of right now, when the battery is in the phone it automatically starts itself up to the "Phone > ! > computer" firmware error screen recommending I go KIES, which does not recognize the phone (And, I have been turning off during ODIN runs and is currently uninstalled because I downloaded the S2 drivers directly).
I've been told that as long as I can get into download mode (which I still can, though I can't get to recovery) there is still some hope, so if anyone has any ideas I would be extremely grateful.
First, the reason for failed odin flash can be one of many things, such as bad usb port (on computer or on phone), or bad usb cable. Try other ports, other cables, even another pc. Also, Odin 3.07 may be a problem. Odin3 v1.85 is known to work with the I-777. I've had one person switch from v3 to v1.85 to get a flash to go through. And sometimes when there is a problem with odin flashes failing, multiple tries will eventually result in a pass.
The following is for recovering from nand read/write corruption on the I777. This may or may not be your problem, but it's worth a try.
1)Go to this post and download the Tar version of Siyah 2.6.14 Kernel. Flash it in PDA without ticking Re-Partitioning.
2) Successful? Nice. Next, flash the full stock Gingerbread distribution from the Download Repository, I777UCKH7 including the bootloaders and everything, in the PDA slot.
3) If that is successful you are done.
If it is not, then:
4) Download the SBL Bootloader from the Download Repository. Flash it as PDA in ODIN, without ticking Re-Partitioning.
5) Flash the Kernel, as in step 1.
6) Flash the full stock Gingerbread distribution, as in step 2.

Flashing the SBL Bootlaoder from Odin 1.85 works and allows me to see the Galaxy S2 logo screen again instead of the Firmware error.
After that though, flashing the Siyah 2.6.14 kernel hangs up at the "STARTING NAND WRITE" step and stays there until I unhook it, which takes me back to the firmware error and requires me to flash the SBL again.
I only have one USB cable, but I typically use it for file transfer and it worked with the SBL flash, but that may be the culprit.
Also, when I hold the volume buttons and restart, it goes straight into downloading mode and does not allow me to choose to factory wipe the phone. I feel like if I could get that menu back, it could possibly solve the problem.
Thanks for the help so far, I'm glad I can at least get back here. If I don't have the original USB cable, how can I get another one and be sure it will be sufficient for the job?

Update so far:
I cleaned the USB port, which did turn out to be full of lint and other crud. I still can't get it to flash anything but the bootloader.
However, the phone will do nothing at all when the battery is in, and only works when plugged into the computer with no battery inside. I had been getting battery temperature errors, so I think it being kind old, a cheap USB cable, and the port being dirty for who knows how long probably fried that battery. I'm gonna get a new battery and a new cable and see if that helps me out.

Well, the new battery came in and still nothing. The screen will turn on again, but otherwise the behavior is the same. Except for a new cable, which I'll get tomorrow, I'm out of ideas.
