So I really jacked my phone up today. It all started when I updated to the newest CM10.1 nightly (which I do routinely). After the update my phone basically would not mount the internal hdd, as quite a few people have since found out with the cm-10.1-20130121-NIGHTLY-i9100.zip. Long story short, I read from a couple users that using the sisyah kernel did not cause these issues. Well, like an idiot I went ahead and tried flashing it with odin (rather than just go back to a restore point I had), only to have it fail and cause my phone to show a phone + ! + Computer symbol. I've since managed to get in to download mode and flash CWM 5.5.04. Unfortunately, that's about all I've gotten to work. I'm assuming I have nothing on my phone anymore, in CWM I can't access my internal hdd or ext hdd to load CM10.1 back on. I can see the Samsung logo if I just try and boot the phone but it just stays there. Other than that I can reach the recovery and download screens. I'm at a total lost and would appreciate any help I can get, Thank you
flash your back up with recovery or a stock rom with odin to restore your phone.

Unfortunately, I can't access anything from my phone. Neither my internal SD or ext. HD are recognized by both the phone and computer. I have the CM10.1 that I want back on there but it's a zip not tar.
What are you talking about. He told you to flash a stock rom using Odin. The objective is to get the phone working-then you can root and restore backups.

Just in case you can't read, he first stated "flash your back up with recovery". I was simply telling him that was not possible. I'm in the process of going back to stock, but the download takes forever. For your information, I've never owned a single apple product or even an android phone that hadn't been modded.
...........or a stock rom with Odin which has nothing to do with crap about "cant see my sd card".
And its you that needs to read, not me.
And I take it you love my new signature.

Something went wrong during an ODIN revert to stock, and now when I plug in the phone to the computer or wall it shows the battery charge image for a few seconds, then it says the "Samsung Vibrant" splash and goes straight into recovery mode. I've tried holding down the volume keys, adb doesn't recognize the device. IDK wtf to do. Any help would be so appreciated I'll paypal the person a six pack that can help me fix this.
When it goes into recovery mode it says...
Movi_check Start...!!
checksum confirmation need_checksum[0]
Not need checksum confirmation
Movi_check already executed!!...
Movi_checking done!..

did you try holding down volume up/down, and just plugging it into your computer?( so you can get into download mode)
So I just got off the phone with Tech Support, luckily I'm still under warranty and my recovery screen says "Android System Recovery" and not ClockworkMod Recovery. They went through the "Master Reset" and that didn't work, obviously, because I tried that. I also tried every other thread to get into download mode and Odin the original rom/kernel/recovery to no avail. They agreed to send me a new phone free of charge, added on the insurance and shipping is now free. Luckily my girlfriend didn't tell them what really went down haha. "Oh well he rooted his phone and then tried to un-root it and ended up turning it into a paper weight." So now I just sit and wait. Next time I'm not using any other outside write ups to try and reflash a recovery on the vibrant. After I get the OTA (if it ever comes) I'll root it again just to remove the bloatware like I did the first time. But with Clockwork you can't get the OTA, or so it said, so I'll just be patient and wait it out. To anyone else who is stuck in recovery and can't get it into download mode, or flashed the euro version, just call T-Mo tech support and say you downloaded an app and rebooted and voila stuck in recovery. On the downside, I have to wait 5-7 business days (not including weekends or holidays though) for my new one in the mail. So let this be a lesson learned to everyone, read read read and if all else fails, lie.
Its not as easy doing things on the Vibrant as it was with the good old Gangster 1 (G1).
Also, I only tried this because Rom Manager said I still had ClockworkMod Recovery instead of the stock recovery after I did the proper forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475, You don't need to flash the root update as the CSC, I guess there could be a non-root update.zip to use, but There was a guide I followed the first time that only used the PIT and PDA files, which put it back to stock but still had ClockworkMod Recovery on it. If it didn't, Rom Manager was lying to me.

Rom manager doesnt replace samsungs recovery. There is an update.zip that is placed in your root that allows you to get to clockwork recovery by simply reinstalling packages in samsung recovery. Clockwork recovery may still be flashed, but if you remove or replace that update.zip, the only way otherwise to get to it would be through rom manager. Which obviously isnt an option for you.

Dang. Because when I opened CW it said "Current Recovery: ClockworkMod Recover 4.x.x.x, last version: ClockworkMod Recovery x.x.x." So I guess CW wasn't even on there, so I bricked it for no reason. If I just removed the update.zip it would have just been fine? Because it kept saying "You can't receive the OTA with your current ROM, please contact ROM author." Which is why I decided to reflash to stock un-rooted rom. I had also had a 6 pack and 2 jager bombs so hahaha fsck it. I'm getting a new one and will read when I'm un-ability impaired. Thanks for the note though.... but I also renamed the update.zip to 2.1rootupdate.zip, would that matter to CW or not? Because it kept saying no matter how I reflashed that CWR was still on there...
Did you try to flash 2.2 by any chance? Easy way to fox your problem is just adb reboot. It will boot up your phone past the recovery screen, and then you can use odin to get back to stock.

There is no updated rom available. That function of rom manager is currently unused by vibrant devs. It allows them to make updates to roms and streamline the process, but they simply move on to the next rom. Renaming the update.zip that is used to root to whatever it is is ok for cw recovery, but once you have clockwork recovery flashed since it doesnt replace samsung recovery. When something goes wrong you need its update.zip it puts in root to stay right where it is. By reinstalling packages in samsung recovery is the only way to get to clockwork recovery when you cant load up the phone. If that update.zip is gone or renamed, you're s.o.l.

So if I had kept that update.zip file that CW put on, chances are I could have fixed it? Since I clicked the "Repartition" check box on Odin, would it have even mattered? I used the 512.pit file and the Phone file from the "Unroot" thread by Koush I believe. That worked wonderful, and then I did it a second time and I think something went wrong.
Okay so I was updating my i717 from UCLF5 team perfection to UCLF6 Collective AoCP ROM and think I bricked my phone. T_T
I forgot that I had encrypted both the phone and external SD Card. When I went into CWM Touch 5.8.3.4 I hung on the formatting /cache I then forced reboot back into CWM and went through a manually formatted stuff and wiped the caches. I then went to install the zip ROM and it said read-only bad.. I didn't know what to do so I tried to factory wipe again and no luck. So I then thought well Odin could work, but I couldn't download the hotfile without hotfile host bugging out with too many downloads.. So I final find a default stock official ROM that is a tar that Odin v1.85 can use, but it is taking forever and I don't know if it will complete, it is currently stuck at "SetupConnection.."
I can get the phone into CWM Touch 5.8.3.4 and can get into download mode, but cannot do ****. The external SD card does still have my titan backup of all system apps all user data and all user apps on it. I know the password for the encrypted SD card. However I cannot do anything because it keeps say read-only....
I also for some reason probably me not being patient enough 3 flash counters on the phone. Now if I take the phone back to ATT to exchange or somehow get it un-bricked will I be able to return the flash counter to 0 before turning the phone in...or will I have to cross my fingers and hope that they don't see it lol?
Does anybody know the best way to go about fixing this phone? I don't really know how to use Odin well and since CWM seems to be hanging on reformatting /cache it won't ever finish getting the phone to factory by itself. I have also tried to fix the permissions but doesn't work. Also tried to mount into USB while plugged in and it didn't want to do that either.
I did notice that a couple times it did boot into the UCLF5 ROM that was previously on the phone but it was back to stock ICS theme with no apps but settings and couldn't use the USB mass storage it just kept cycling itself and not connecting.
Okay so I did infact get it on the third try to flash 2.3.6 android factory default back onto the phone and in the process lost CWM recovery and when I went back into the market place to reinstall ROM manager after I put the ROM I want onto the internal it won't connect to Google Play even after getting onto wifi...weird and even said there wasn't an update after trying to update through att to ICS stock...
Your not still rooted right? An official update won't install if you are

BTW if you are trying to put the Off ICS use kies while putting your phone in download mode, not sure what you are doing with/thru ATT
There are several thread around for this method.
Hello almighty XDA peoples.
I watched the video, I have lurked here for months. I read everything I could on my phone, but I feel like my dilemma is slightly different. If not I would be glad to rectify it.
I purchased an unlocked gt-i9100 in the UK. I now use a Tmobile sim in the US.
After a lot of reading, I rooted my phone using ODIN and CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LQ5-v5.6-CWM5 kernel.
I installed titanium backup, and used it. I put in ROM manager.
I decided I wanted to put a custom ROM on, but I read that a full wipe was necessary so I went into clockworkmod recovery. I followed all the instructions.
Now I can't boot into OS. I can get into both clockwordmod and download mode, but my computer wont recognize my phone so I can't put a zip file onto my sd card. (probably should have done that first huh)
All I want is a normal working phone. I will leave rooting to the professionals.
It was previously running 4.0.4 xxlq6.

Ouch.
Rather dont wipe with the Samsung 4.0.4 kernel they had the brickbug...
You can try reinstall the drivers on the PC for the phone and also make sure KIES is not running then try download mode again else
try take the sd card out of the phone and put it in the pc and copy the ROM on to the SD card that way then flash with CWM.
A SD card reader is cheaper then fixing the phone if you don't already have one....
I can still access download mode and CWM though. Is that a sign of life? I went a bought a micro sd card and have put the rom onto it, which hopefully I can access through CWM. WIll update soon.

Having read the thread about 4.0.4 being susceptible to bricking, I'm now wondering what to do.
I bought a microSD card and put the Resurrection remix zip on it. I can access that though CWM and it's allowing me to update. WOuld it be better to try to downgrade to gingerbread or an early ICS, or have I passed the point where my phone should be bricking? Thanks so much in advance.

Well firstly why did you use Rom Manager? Its not properley compatible with I9100 and can lead to issues like you have if you mess about and try to flash kernel through it.
If you can still access download mode simply flash stock via ODIN and then flash custom kernel like Siyah (version depends on rom version) to gain root, cwm etc.
Alternatively first flash Siyah (.tar version) via ODIN then flash your custom rom.

if you can access download/recovery your device is not bricked. Just do as I said above and flash kernel or rom via ODIN.
I guess sometimes reading doesn't equals learning.
Wait a sec, I already knew that. Reading whole threads intead of OP-only equals learning.

I have a s4 schi545 and used the all in one tool for rooting my phone. It worked successfully, so I ran the install twrp 2.5.0.2 I then went to the cyanogen website and put a rom on my phone in a folder and tried to load it onto my phone. The cm loading screen just loops endlessly and I cannot get my phone back on, can someone please help me I am starting to freak out a bit.
edit:
I got it to open with recovery mode, now is there a way I can have it boot into the 'default os' ?
You flashed cyanogenmod in, so the stock rom is gone (unless you actually performed a nandroid backup which you could restore if you did). You are going to have to mount your phone to a PC and load a different rom to flash.

Did you do a factory reset when loading the new ROM? You can't carry data from one ROM to another. If you really want to go back, as stated above you'll need to use Odin to flash the stock firmware.
You may have to go back to stock if you didn't make the backup and start over.
You can restore your phone to factory here

Thanks alot.
Before I went to sleep last night I rebooted in recovery and did a data wipe, I had no idea you had to clear the entire os and am happy to know the stock os is now gone, I was going to ask that today. What do you guys think of CM 10?
Thank you all so much.
First, I'm not totally familiar with this phone as I have a VZW GNex & Unlocked SGSIII.
My wife's completely stock unmodified and OTA updated Note 2 on 4.1.2 is stuck in a bootloop at the Samsung GN2 logo. The only mode that works is Download. Recovery doesn't work, either. She told me she was having issues with it being very slow recently. When she went to plug it in to get the files off the internal SD, she said it rebooted, and now all it does is bootloop.
I'm assuming I'll have to ODIN back to stock. I have a feeling that she may lose her files on the internal SD card. I just have a few questions.
1. Is it possible to get access the internal SD via ADB, even if I can't get into recovery? (My guess is no)
2. ODIN will surely erase the internal SD, but is there a ODIN file for 4.1.2 that doesn't wipe, similar to Root66 for the original 4.1.1? (again, guess is no as Google finds nothing)
I'm (extremely slowly) downloading the 4.1.2 ODIN to return back to stock. Are there any other tips I should know before trying to revive?
Thanks.
EDIT: I'm going to crap myself. I just ODIN, prepared to lose everything, and upon a reboot, everything was back to normal, exactly as it was left! I'm completely shocked AND relieved, to say the least!
