To block the OTA update, Uninstall SDM 1.0 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Backup SDM with titanium or Rom toolkit and then delete it. You won't be able to get OTA update anymore.

Just did this this morning after getting the update message. Thanks!!!

Freezing SDM 1.0 in Titanium works as well.

Presume that freezing it will do as well?

Yes, freezing works the same.

Thanks. Got the message this morning and came on here to find out what needed to be blocked. Frozen.

I just used Root Exolorer and renamed it SDM.apk.old then did the same with SDM.odex.old

there is more than one way to skin a cat...point op is making is to make sure sdm 1.0 is disabled.

Yesterday I was able to reject, this morning it forced me to defer. I went the max days but I assume if I freeze this app it won't install automatically on me (fingers crossed)...

It will install if you do not do what the op has said to do. If you dont want it you better get rid of the sdm 1.0

when i scroll down i dont see SDM 1.0
when i look for it in root explorer i cant find it there either ???

it should only say SDM. the icon for it is a green box with an up arrow inside it.

I just got my notice for for the update and defered it.
I used root explorer to zip it for a backup and deleted the original. I went to the software updates afterwards and the settings crashed as they are meant to at this point I guess
Thanks

So can someone tell me if I did this right.
I went to Titanum Backup found the sdm 1.0 file
Backed it up then uninstalled it inside the Titanum Backup app
Also before this I deferred the OTA

Yes you did it right. I wouldn't even back it up because you could just flash the new update using the zip from the dev section. Or go back to rev3 and get it OTA.

Why don't you just delete the files through ADB?
Remove the CWM app before you unroot then!

You can't. It's marked as a system app, which is why it's not removed when it's wiped. Easiest way is to re-root, then use Titanium Backup to remove it, then unroot.

Hey everyone so I just read here... http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/09/att-samsung-galaxy-note-ics/...that Samsung is FINALLY rolling out the official ICS update. My NOTE however is running a custom DaGr8's AOKP ICS ROM...I'm a noob, can anyone tell me if I need to roll back to the bloated-stock ATT Gingerbread? And if yes, HOW??? Many thanks in advance :fingers-crossed:

How would you go about backing up and restoring contacts and texts/mms? Titanium backup shows the contacts and what not but it also says 2.3.6 at the end. I feel like restoring this 2.3.6 onto 4.0.4 might not work.
Also, I'm aware you shouldn't lose anything in the upgrade process but I want to factory reset and erase absolutely everything prior to this upgrade. I run a stock rooted ROM.

Yea that's what I'm saying. So is there another method to backup restore texts? I see a method to put them on the SIM but you can only do them individually.

will i get official updates after rooting?

I plan to buy s3 but i have a question in mind. I dont like to install custom roms and only need to root the s3 in order to install Titanium Backup Pro.So if i root it and not install custom recovery and no other mod just superuser and titanium backup pro will i be able to get fota update. And also can i easily unroot it and go back to as it was before?
Don't root, BUY the games, get updates.
Cracked games are bad mkay?

Using cf.root you can keep the phone as close to stock as possible and have root, you can still get official updates through KIES but OTA downloaded updates seem to be giving ppl problems.
To slaphead20 and burden010 just cause the guy doesnt want custom roms doesnt mean hes cracking games or doing anything illegal. I only rooted my stock rom so I could fully use titanium backup and mybackup pro, plus custom roms arent that far from stock at the moment anyway so give the guy a break.
edit :- I see OP has edited his post maybe he did announce he was doing something wrong.

Storage location of OTA updates?

Hi, does anyone know where the OTA firmware updates are kept on the Galaxy S3?
I had a generic ROM on my phone which had an update which got downloaded. I did install it because the ROM wasn't the one I was after.
After finding the correct ROM and flashing it I see the downloaded update is still waiting to be installed from the previous ROM...
I know I could just wipe my phone but I'd rather not lose all my data at the moment.
This file must be stored somewhere but I can't seem to find it...
Any help would be appreciated

Yeah it's root/cache/fota
But obviously you have to be Rooted to see it.
Thanks for the replies... I got root access back and installed Root Browser, found that fota location and it seems to be empty... see attached pic...
Any other ideas? Perhaps I need to reset a file that says there's an update downloaded and ready to install..?

They can download, the only question is weather they can install it or not. As for the OP, give the explorer superuser permissions. That should fix your prob.

You have to restore to stock to apply an FOTA. If you unlocked with the app, just restore with the app, and put back any apks you deleted.
