Hey everyone,
My completely stock GS3 Mini (i8190) running 4.1.1. Jelly Bean experiences a lot of lag while typing.
Specifically, when I am using Whatsapp along with the SwiftKey keyboard. The keyboard responds slowly to my touches and I often have to slow down/stop completely in order for it to catch up with what I have been typing. This usually results in quite a few errors, and makes typing difficult.
I've noticed that outside whatsapp, Swiftkey works very well, with no lag at all. This includes in the browser, Gtalk, and Go SMS Pro. Weirdly enough, typing in whatsapp is easy enough when I use Swype or the Default Keyboard.
It's only the whatsapp + Swiftkey combination that seems to break everything. Ironically, this is what I intend to use my device for most of the time.
What can I do to diagnoze / fix this?
Anybody?

Hi guys,
just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem i am - and if there might be a possible solution.
I am finding that Swiftkey X will not autocorrect or input word suggestions when typing in Go SMS. If i hit the spacebar mid word... it will leave exactly what i typed. If i mis-spell a word and hit space at the end of it... it will leave exactly what i typed.
Im not sure if the problem is with Go SMS or with Swiftkey - but when i use Swiftkey in the stock SMS app (SGS2) - it will function fine.
Thanks for any help.
Cheers.
try restarting the phone.
that should fix it
I use the two apps but don't have the problem.
Have you choosen "Rapid" typing style i SwiftKeyX under Advanced?
Thanks for the replies guys.
Im afraid i never got a chance to test the reboot suggestion - i uninstalled another SIP i had (slideit) and found that swiftkey worked fine after that.
while i was having the issue...i had played with many of the settings and tested it in different apps (browsers, default sms/email clients, etc) and found that sometime swiftkey would behave, and sometimes it wouldnt.
now i am having no issue.
thanks again.
I noticed some strange keyboard lag while typing up an email yesterday. I though it was my keyboard acting up(i use swiftkey 3) but I tested it on the stock samsung keyboard and the same thing happened. I then switched over to the Gmail app and tried it. Typing on the gmail app was as smooth as butter. I wonder if I could have a few of you give it a test for me.
I need a few of you extremely quick texters to open up the native samsung email application and compose a new email. Write a bunch of sentances as quick as you can without stopping. Try to rely on the auto correct feature. Any keyboard will do(stock samsung, swiftkey 3, or any other) I have found that the lag starts about 2 sentances in or sometimes sooner.
Do you have the same issue?
Yrah i notice it too, sometimes lag starts off right off the bat when writing an email. Also, i get some lag when scrollingbthrough the default web browser and xda app. A few minuted ago lag got so bad it took almost two seconds to scroll down half a page on the xda app.
Almost makes me feel like returning it. I was also only runing xda app and the browser.

I am thinking that its not the phones fault. I also have lqg in those apps you mentioned but I have no lag in the Gmail appa and others. I think these are fixable software bugs and they can be fixed.

Hello!
Hope this has not been answered before... Anyways my GS3 i9300 has a serious problem when typing a whatsapp message. In all of the other apps the keyboard is fast and responsive as it always has been but since a couple months it started to have very severe lags while typing within Whatsapp. If i want the keyboard to process correctly the word i have to slow down my typing which is becoming very annoying and the problem is somehow getting worse. I am running CyanogenMod 10.1. I have tryied to re install both applications and maybe for a couple days after reinstalling things get a little better; but no real and continuous improvement. I kill always all my background running apps and i clear my RAM every day... Any suggestions? Thanks a lot for any kind of help!!

Just a quick note to point out that I'm having the same exact issue, in the same environment (cyanogen 10.1, swiftkey, whatsapp). As you stated in every other app swiftkey works just fine.. It's just with whatsapp.. No one else guys? What can we do?

It's a paid app... have you asked the developer? Email them: [email protected]
Having the exact same problem here, even Overclocking doesn't increase responsiveness. Any solution by now?
When I am typing a text the phone seems to freeze for a second or two and then play catch up with the keys I have touched. This is happening more and more frequently. Is this a known issue with a fix? Any help would be appreciated.
I think the stock LG keyboard lags a bit sometimes. I switched to SwiftKey and everything works great.

I gave the LG keyboard a chance, doesn't compete with SwiftKey at all though. SwiftKey FTW.
I've been using swiftkey for the last couple of phones i've had.
I just got so fed up with the insane lag on the z5 compact that i tried removing swiftkey and it seems to have helped massively.
Anyone else can verify ?
Maybe the z5 compact has a very low tolerance for system replacement apps like keyboard and launchers ?

I've always had swiftkey installed on my z5c and have found the phone to be quite slow and laggy. After seeing this post just uninstalled it, my first impression is that it seems a lot faster!
you may want to report this issue to swiftkey

I've been using SwiftKey for a long time without issue. I just started getting this lag problem in the past couple of weeks.
interesting since I had been noticing some lag issues and I attributed it to apps like Snapchat, though that app may have its own issues (especially since it accesses the camera every damn time you open the app). I've been meaning to give the latest Google keyboard a chance anyway, so I'll have to see how phone performance is not using Swiftkey.
I've tracked it down to the keyboard, I think. I've tried going back to Swiftkey and it gets laggy again after a few minutes. Swapping to the Google keyboard and the lag goes away. I've tried multiple messaging apps and seen the same results each time. The SK Neural keyboard from Swiftkey is doing the same thing.

Give a try to Swype, I don't experience such lag. I really appreciate the SwypeTweaks XPosed module to replace the Dragon voice typing with Google one. And I love the copy/paste gesture, among many other features. Swype Row Xposed module adds a permanent number row if the gesture to switch to numeric keypad is not enough.
