According to Tech Support on their official forums, MX Player will add more Nexus 10 support with their next patch.
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/mx-videoplayer/D7JQchq9I2s
Hopefully full HW+ support.
UPDATE (2013-09-02):
Now available with HW+ support. It is not stellar. WMVs and some AVIs are still SW only.
Too little, too late. BSPlayer plays everything I've thrown at it perfectly. Consequently I see no need to go back?
Yeah, I bought BS Player as a way of thanking them for the Nexus 10 support, but I still like MX Players controls about a thousand times better. If they have decent HW+ support I will probably start gravitating back to them.

Huh. I've been using MX with no problems for months now, but I've not been throwing massive .mkv files or the like at it.

try play the 1440P Timescape video on MX player and compare it to BS player.
there you have the difference.
It will be interesting to try it out, but bsplayer has been doing a great job for me.

BS player has HW support that MX player doesn't have at the moment. I'll take anything that can HW support any day.

Ok guys we get it. The purpose of the thread is to let us know that support for the Nexus 10 is coming for MX Player. That would indicate that it has not happened yet. We don't need to keep reading about how BS Player is currently better for you guys.

Yes it's completely unreasonable to talk about hw support for our device in a thread about hw support... geez. Not to mention, it's not like anyone might find useful info here about what they could use in the interim until mxplayer is updated...

First off, I never said anything was "completely unreasonable". I implied that the posts about how much better BS Player is were starting to sound like a broken record. Yes people can find useful info here about what they could use, but it doesn't have to be repeated 4 times in 7 posts.
Secondly, this thread is not "about hw support". The title and OP is in regards to MX Player specifically. Though this isn't that big of a deal since the HW support is the biggest issue.
Sorry about being snarky but you guys are making it seem like MX Player is inferior when the OP clearly states that the devs are working on the app to support the Nexus 10. Now that could definitely be misleading to new users. I personally think the UI on MX Player is far better than BS Player in terms of functionality, ease of use, and general look and feel, as I stated earlier. But that's just my opinion. :good:

So glad to hear that.
Hoping HW+ will be perfect on 1080P and 1440P. Although SW is also okay with most videos now.

Actually, I base my chooses on things when opinions are repeated multiple times. If one person says try an app or accessory but he's the only one, I may not try it, but if multiple people say try a diff't app, I may go with that. While, in your opinion, it may sound like a broken record, it could be helpful in making a decision for someone else especially if they were on the fence about something.

I understand that, but the topic of this thread is not "which player is the best". It is about support coming to a specific player. This point of this thread is also not to debate, so I'll just leave it at that. BS Player and MX Player are clearly two great apps and people can decide which one they enjoy more. :good:
they got me the sound back was the biggest gift to me.

I will say the opposite. I dislike BS Player. I have always used MX Player & I purchased the Pro version in support. On 99% of devices, MX Player Pro is the hands down best media player in my opinion.
That said, the HW & HW+ support for the N10 is still sub-par on the Nexus 10. I would like to think it is just a matter of the N10 being under-powered for the resolution, but having tried BS Player, it seems to me to still work better *IF* you are using HW decoding, not to mention that it seems that MX Player does not really play well with HW decoding on any of the Exynos devices, whether the Note 2, Note 10.1 or the Nexus 10.
Overall, I still prefer the layout & control of MX Player. It has great features & I am certain at some point it will once again surpass all other media players, but right now, it has a ton of dropped frames when using HW or HW+ on any of those Exynos devices.
I know people seem to love MX Player, but I've never figured out what it does better than say...Diceplayer, especially with HW deconding. I've tried each, seems to be roughly the same battery drain, picture quality, etc. Anyone able to explain what I'm missing?

The interface looks tons neater. That's probably why I prefer MX Player over any other player. I use other players when MX Player fails to play something.
New update seems to correct issues for hw+ decoding. Very hi bitrate 1080p mkv and mp4 videos play without any dropped frames even with greater than 30fps video.

Qualcomm gets official with TouchPad-powering Snapdragon APQ8060 processor
By Donald Melanson posted Feb 10th 2011 1:31PM
HP already put out the first official word about Qualcomm's new Snapdragon APQ8060 processor yesterday when it revealed that its TouchPad was based on it, but Qualcomm's now also come out and properly announced the new processor itself. That's, of course, a dual-core processor, and comes paired with an Adreno 220 GPU that Qualcomm says helps to deliver "unprecedented processing and 3D graphics performance." What's more, while the TouchPad is the first device to use the processor, it obviously won't be the last, and Qualcomm has now also given us an idea of what sort of capabilities those devices (including smartphones in addition to tablets) might have -- namely, cameras up to 16 megapixels, and the ability to capture and display 1080p stereoscopic 3D video or 8 megapixel stereoscopic still images. Head on past the break for the complete press release.

Why do people go nuts over thing like this? i really dont get it.. unless its just so they dont have to re-encode anything... but what the point of running a 1080p video on a screen that is only 1024x768? when you do this you are making the processor work harder scaling it down.. there for using more battery..
if its just for easy of use.. thats one thing.. just copy and go.. or if the touchpad had a video out port (that would be SWEEETT!!)

Calm down. Why do people think it's their job to tell others what to want? First of all, nobody's going nuts here. Secondly, you're right. I don't want to reencode my tv shows just to watch then delete. Third and last, i don't care about battery when im on my bed and want to something.

sorry i didnt mean to imply that anyone here was going nuts over it.. but there was quite a... debate.. over the issue on the nook forums about it.. people calling it a POS because it couldnt do 1080p ect.. people were even complaining that even tho they were already having to re-encode there videos to get them to play on the nook.. they were having to re-encode them to 800x480 instead of the more 'common' format of 1280x720
I understand. There was a big ordeal with the Tegra 2 and high-profile h264, but it is an issue that needs to be addressed. Anyhow, it LOOKS like this 3rd-gen Snapdragon chip is a better decoder. Will try it myself when I get my Touchpad. Wonder if there's a HW-decoding player for webOS though.

Does not look like this software is hardware decoding because even 720p h264 mkv are lagging.
No it isn't. It transcodes the files. Somebody needs to write a player that will do hardware decoding. This soc is technically as good as the ipad2. I would be more than happy to pay for such app.
I know this isn't exactly what is being asked, but just to add I played some HD videos from Vimeo yesterday and they worked really well.

Vimeo is more HQ than HD imo
From using touch player on the device (which is built off of ffmpeg), I can tell you that even 720p will lag a little (but still playable). I highly doubt 1080 will be. Besides, how much do you think you are going to fit onto it with nothing but 1080p shows? 2 seasons of the simpsons @ 720p took up nearly 16gb.

That would take too long. First I have to learn how to code lol. I wish somebody would take advantage of the fire sale and make such software. There's gotta be like 1/4 a million Touchpads out there right?
I'd consider it, but I don't think there's much of a market for selling it on the touchpad. Besides the fact android will be on it soon.

Perhaps, but I wonder if Android performance will take a hit as a port.
New Transformer Prime owner. Just about to take it out of the box and get up to speed on this device. I'm a media nut who has tons of videos in 720P and 1080P mkv format. Was wondering whether it was worth waiting a few days for ICS to be available so the default video player could play them with HW acceleration or if I should install one of the ad-supported players like BS.Player or DICE?
I can wait the 3 days until the 12th so no big deal there. I have a lot to learn on this tablet but look forward to discovering what it is capable of.
How obstructive are the ad-supported features or DICE and BS.Player? Would prefer to not have to deal with ads.
ICS is supposed to have HW acceleration and MKV support if I'm not mistaken, but let me know your suggestions.
Thanks.

would be enough.
I really don't get the point of this thread, basically, you're asking if you should install a free app or not ?
To answer you, HW acceleration won't change your video playback, it will eventually improve your window drawing (so make your device probably feel smoother). ICS might, not HW acceleration.
Hi,
I've just noticed something strange on my machine: When I watch HW accelerated 720p video the screen glitches every so often, maybe once or twice a minute. It doesn't happen on SW decoding. The glitches are , for example, part of the picture appearing corrupt or in the wrong place for a fraction of a second.
Does this suggest my Tegra is on the way out? I had a quick play of a game to see if it caused glitching but couldn't see anything. Are there any decent video stress test apps out there that could maybe reproduce this?
I hadn't actually noticed this before the new update, but I expect it is just coincidence.
Can you please post the video player you use and maybe some more infos about the video file you used?
The problem you described seems to be similar to what I experience while using Dice Player with mkv files that contain x264 video and ac3 sound. This happens with pretty much every tv series (all made with the standard release rules used for the illegal releases) I watch on my prime.
I get the same with Dice player. I will try others when I get a minute and see if it's the same. Never put two and two together because it happens when I'm not watching a video. But the last few times I noticed it happening it was after I had been playing a video and the player was still "live" in the back ground.

I get this all the time when watching 720p / 1080p. Its only for a split second.
I was watching How I met your Mother which was 720p last night and a small square where a persons face was kind of corrupted for a second, then went back to normal.
Its also happened with 'A very Harold and Kumar Christmas' which is 1080p.
Both were Mkv files and I use a combination of MX player and BSplayer, because MX player sometimes doesnt play sound for some reason
Same problem here. I have come to the conclusion that the Prime is unable to play 720p or 1080p smoothly. Every single file on every player skips frames every 10 seconds or so when using HW decoding.
This tablet is useless.
I've been noticing the same thing, using the ad version of Dice Player. Most of the video I watch is 720p, h264 or x264.
But I have to disagree with Fizzerr -- I only noticed it after the .28 update. I'm fairly certain this wasn't a problem before -- I'm very picky about video quality -- so I don't believe this means the Prime's hardware is incapable of playing hi-def video smoothly.
I get intermittent frame and sound skips, very jarring. Happens in default player as well as Dice.

Sorry - I meant to add the player info, but forgot.
I'm using 720p AC3 MKV container files.WEB DL essentially. The problem doesn't seem to happen on non 720p files.
I'm using Dice Player AD, BS Player lite amongst others. Essentially any that use HW acceleration seem to have the issue. I thought it was caused by a bump the machine received as I didn't ever notice this item the bump. Mind you, I did update to the latest firmware around the same time, so this could be the cause.
Essentially is looks like artifacts produced by a dodgy card, but if others are seeing it then there is maybe hope. Perhaps I'll try a non-AC3 720p vid.

My tablet played 720p fine until very recently (either a bump or the new firmware seems to have caused the issue). Hell, I even used the Prime to play SBS video into my Sony HMD and all was fine. I only get stuttering on 720p when I use software decoding.

In my case I can definitely say that this problem occurred from the very beginning with honeycomb.
I find it only mildly annoying because the happiness about a tablet playing high def videos smoothly (at least almost...) outweighs the glitches. It's THE main reason why i bought this thing.
At least now we know that we are not alone with our problem. Maybe Gary takes a look at this thread and puts the issue on his to-do list
I really want to think this is a firmware issue. I don't recall this happening until I upgraded to the .28 firmware. I also believe it happens at any time using any app (no restricted to just videos), only that it is easier to detect when video watching.
I see similar visual glitches sometimes when web browsing (stock browser) and sometimes see it on my calendar widget on the home screen. Once again, I don't recall having these issues until upgrading to .28 firmware.
The thing is, it is random and doesn't happen at the same spot when I watch again.
It looks like artifacting caused by a GPU that is too hot! Hope I'm wrong.... Or maybe right. Asus'll have to give me a new machine!
I would like to weigh in on this
Oh, it's the .28 firmware alright, this coming from someone who has had the Prime since release date, on Honeycomb. Other than .15 which also gave me some video ****ery, all other firmware releases have been fine as far as video. I have been able to watch both 720 video and 1080 Blue Ray mkv files without a hitch, a glitch or a twitch. >28, which took close to 3 months to spit out is the absolute worst release yet, as they focused on a couple of issues, and screwed up a whole bunch of stuff in the process. ANR reduced greatly, WiFi is cranked to the max (so it works only SLIGHTLY sub-par, instead of hugely, but video? The worst. I went back to .21, added my custom build.prop (from Seanzscreams) SIO scheduler, and I am good for the moment. Can't WAIT to see how bad 28.5 or it's successor is. I swear, the longer they take to release, the worse they are, no ****.
In January-March we had FW being pushed every 7-15 days, like clockwork. Then they slowed to a snails pace, and the FW sucks. Lends credence to the theory that they took developers off the Prime, and put them either on Nexus 7 or other tablets such as the 300, and the "new" Infinity. Maybe we SHOULD all start screaming for "free upgrades to the Infinity again, LOL. Mark my words, I saw 32 gb Infinity for $499. If that's correct then the Prime is about to be pulled. I know exactly how they will do it. They will trickle out all the remaining (fixable to a degree) Primes, and keep saying "We arre NOT discontinuing the Prime" Then, when they have dumped the stock, they will say: "Well, we tried, but it just wasn't SELLING" so we HAD to stop production.
Do I sound a bit jaded, LOL? I see a bunch of posts from new forum members in this thread, and I wonder: How much crap are THEY willing to take. I have had more than my share from Asus.
In which case.... how the duck do I go back to the previous firmware?

I can play the same videos in my google galaxy nexus (4.1.1) phone.
