Every single time i open navigation I've got to start the gps or start it before hand. Many links I click take me to navigation then I need to click another window to enable gps. It'd be much easier if it was possible to create something like this that is semi automated.

Why not have GPS always on?
In my past phone experiences it really sucked the battery dry quickly, is that not the case w/ this one?
I normally keep mine off. When I want to turn it on, I pull down the notification window and enable GPS via Power Toggles.

I don't use GPS so I can't answer that just throwing it out there
Buy Tasker (pricey app, but you'll find so many uses for it that you'll feel like it's completely worth it).
Set up a task that consists of turning on GPS and then opening Navigation (or Maps, whichever you want). Then add a shortcut to that task to your homescreen. You can make the icon the Navigation icon and name it "Navigation" - it'll look identical to the original icon, but it will execute the program (GPS on, open Navigation) when you tap it.
In the case of apps that link to Maps or Navigation, you can create a Tasker profile where, if the Maps or Navigation apps are opened, GPS is turned on. The only downside to this arrangement is that if you're linking directly to Navigation from another app, Tasker needs the Navigation app to open before it enables GPS. The result is that you'll get the "show location settings" window when it first opens Navigation (it likely won't recognize that GPS is on when you get that pop-up).

+1...this is how I have mine setup, works like a charm. Tasker is awesome, there are tons of things you can do with it. You'll need to install Secure Settings from the play store (free) also if you want to be able to toggle gps.

I use AutomateIt and have it set to start GPS when maps or nav opens. It automatically shuts off GPS when going to a different app.

Is there a way to get the screen to stay on when I have the maps app open? I tried it the other day and the screen keeps turning off at the inactivity interval set in the display options. Does it not consider using the map app as activity? It sucks having to unlock the screen every few minutes when I'm trying to use the gps while driving.
you have to be using nav to get it to stay on. maps itself will not keep it on.
use a car app, most car apps have a setting to leave screen on and go into google maps from there... thats what i do when im in the car...

Yea, just use navigation, not maps. Navigation will dim your screen to save battery and prevent overheating, but the screen wont actually turn off. It will come back to full brightness automatically when you're going to be approaching something important. But if you want to look at something, you can just touch the screen and it'll be back on.
And if you don't want to actually have Navigation giving you directions and such while driving, there's an option to just show you your place on the map. There's really no reason to use maps while driving.
If you can figure out tasker you could make it keep screen on only when maps is open and when it closes reverts back to previous setting.

Tasker is probably your most convenient bet, at ~6$ its a little pricy but it gets the job done.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...MsIm5ldC5kaW5nbGlzY2guYW5kcm9pZC50YXNrZXJtIl0.
To do it add a context, select maps, add task -> display timeout -> set time. Press check button, long press the task you just created -> add end task -> display timeout -> set time.
Those are very rough instructions as I dont have my phone with me right now but good luck!

Is by far the best app I have and is one of the first I install after installing Roms.
Highly recommended.
What is the fastest and easiest way way to switch between four apps in the car. For example Google Nav, Poweramp, Trapster, and a speedometer app. A wave of the hand would be nice. I have looked at several and used a few. Smart Task Switcher, a reviewer said “Was warned about this app due to access to contacts permissions which dev says is used in China for advertising”. AppSwipe only does two ( the last opened). The “car apps” say nothing about task switching or is it shown in the Youtube videos. It would be nicer if an app would isolate and load these four programs from one key push then allow fast switching. A snap of the fingers would be another way to switch between these four apps. Also, a slideshow type thing of these four apps with the option to stay on the current one showing might be an idea. Or, one app that puts to the front the needed app, like the media player about the first and last 5 seconds of a song, trapster like app that would popup during notifications, navigation about 10 seconds before and after turns, and the speedometer the rest of the time. I'm just thinking out loud. Holding down the home key is not a good fit. Bottom line is I need a better task switcher (not killer) for the auto. An app that would allow me to map a steering wheel button in my 2011 Ford Fusion SEL for task switching would be golden! A friend's suggestion was to get four phones, so that one is already out there.
I tried Car Dock Home v3. It works by using a launcher that uses the back key to return to it's home screen, then another task can be selected via a shortcut. Unfortunately it cancels Google Navigation when the back key is hit to go to CDHv3 home screen. This would have been a better solution as it takes two key presses. It would be the best solution to perform one action to cycle through the desired programs. I installed Smart Task Switcher and that was good in theory but I could not find how to configure correctly and the floating button is far too small and often requires several taps, and that is sitting at the desk. There is a paid version where some of this is supposedly settable but from my experience with this app I don't think this is a solution.
The car was the first place that came to mind. But the need to quickly and efficiently switch task is useful in several environments.
I have hit a dead end and any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have MDK running Tasker but I use start of an app to trigger GPS ON. Can you set your profile to start GPS when you start a certain app?
I also have profiles that when I'm at home or at work (cell near) that GPS is off. GPS may have to be in the default state of "ON" in order to do what you're asking. You may have to create profiles to turn it off as well, but leave the default to "ON". I hope that makes sense to you. Make sure you have the latest version of Tasker: 4.1u3.
I don't think that ME7 to MDK would make a difference in Tasker, but it may.
You need to download secure settings AND install the helper from within it and then to use the GPS on off feature you use the option under plugins>secure settings NOT the one under networks and then edit the configuration for the plugin

SecHolutils & Phone Weaver
I've been using Phone Weaver for my profiles. I have "drive" set up to turn on GPS when I would normaly leave for work, then it turns off at 8am then back on at 4:30, off at 5pm... I needed to download secholeutils.apk and toss it in /system/app and set permissions. Works flawlessly. If I need to drive somewhere during the day, I just hit the "Drive" profile.

In order to do this you will need secure settings and helper and tasker installed assuming you have all this based on this thread
First you will set up two tasks
1) Task to turn on gps
example: Secure settings: GPS on then Flash "Happy Driving
2) set up a DIFFERENT task to turn off GPS using secure settings
create a profile that activates on an app launch. then tasker will require you link this with a task, choose the gps on task.
Next long press on the task (while in the profiles tab not the tasks tab) an option for "add exit task" should appear that will allow you to link the gps off task
exit tasks are tasks that tasker executes when the conditions are no longer true Maps is launched=gps on task upon app close=gps off task is run

If you want to turn on GPS install secure settings and helper from inside secure settings. Your going to need root. When making the task click plugin>secure settings>GPS and select the state you want. (On off or toggle)

Hi,
For me following worked:
Duplicate the Profile where you turn on GPS
Edit the duplicate like this:
invert the selected apps (press the invert button) so all other apps are selected
then set the action to GPS off.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Philipp

While true that will work I would recommend using the exit task option. When you get more advanced with tasker it will benefit you greatly plus the way you said it is kind of "incorrect". It will work in this case but in others it won't correctly
If you have any suggestions, add in comments and I'll update the OP. Going to try to keep this list as comprehensive as possible.
Ambient Display: Stock ambient display sucks, so I don't miss it here. But would be nice to get something similar to Moto's active notifications to make use of the amoled panel.
Smart power-save: What does it really do? Is it limiting CPU speed? Is it using a more conservative governor? I can't tell any difference (performance or battery) when it's on vs off.
Voiceprint: Completely useless. I bet not a single person uses this.
MyVoice: This would be MUCH more useful if you could trigger it without touching phone while screen was off. In its current form, the time it takes to unlock my phone, hold back, say my command, and wait for it to respond, I'd be better off just doing whatever I wanted it to do. Screen off voice commands are natively supported by Qualcomm, even when the phone is in Doze.
Gesture & Motion:
-Double tap to wake is very slow and doesn't work when phone has gone into Doze.
It also works in your pocket because there is no proximity sensor check. There needs to be.
-Shake flashlight: You really need to shake your phone violently now. So violently in fact that you will throw your phone more often than not trying to turn your flashlight on.
-Give us some kind of camera gesture when phone is off. Double tap power, hold volume button, shake phone, whatever.
Navigation Keys: Capacitive buttons should be optional. I like being able to swap which side the back button is on, but we should be able to customize long-presses.
Battery Percentage: Should be displayed inside the battery icon or replace it. Uses up a ton of space on the status bar.
Workaround: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.kroegerama.android4batpercent
Holster Mode: Completely useless. This is a phone, not a fitbit. Keeping the phone screen on all the time to use as a pedometer will destroy your battery life.
Cast Screen: Why is this not a toggle in the notification shade? Why do I need to dig into the display settings to do this? You have a dual sim quick-toggle, but not a cast screen quick-toggle?
Sound: I really like that when I mute ringer, media volume also mutes. But when you unmute, it goes back to whatever it was at before, which can be a lot louder than you think. Android should tie all volumes except alarm volume together, but if nothing else, let us tie ringer and notification volume together.
Mute Schedule: Why did they remove stock 6.0's timed do not disturb functionality?
Charging Sounds: Should be able to turn off.
Apps: To disable stock calendar, clock, gallery, mifavor launcher, my voice, stock music app, and stock video app, you have to open "stock android launcher" and drag icons from the app drawer to top of screen. Why can't we just disable these same apps from settings --> apps?
Storage: Let us use adaptable storage!
Connect to PC: Does the "Install driver" option do anything? Have not found a computer that does not install driver automatically when MTP selected.
Lockscreen: Get rid of the bell!
Notification Shade: Editing toggles is nice, but let us add and remove toggles. Many of us don't use a 2nd sim card, so having 3 related toggles is a waste of space.
System UI Tuner: Holding the gear icon in the notification shade causes it to spin and settings to open, but System UI Tuner never appears in settings. If you're not going to let us use System UI Tuner, get rid of the toggle.
Stock Weather widget: I really like the widget, but does not scale when resizing. Also, does not open Google clock if stock clock is disabled when clicked. Oh well, back to Chronus.
Toolkit: Not all of these are very useful, but definitely interesting. If you want to create a home screen shortcut to any of these, open the toolkit app and long press whatever icon you like.
Recent Apps: clear button shouldn't cover up 50% of the currently open app. This will be solved in nougat, so probably not worth fixing, but if you're going to put a clear all button on this screen, but it near the top left or top right so it's harder to accidentally press.
Status Bar Color: When status bar turns dark, icons stay dark so you can't read anything. These should turn white.
Speaker Phone: If on speaker phone and screen times out, other person can no longer hear you until you toggle speakerphone off then back on, which means constantly touching your phone's screen so it doesn't time out.
Phone call Proximity Sensor: Doesn't work. If you turn the screen off and hold the phone up to your head, if the proximity sensor sees light, which it will because it's not centered, it will turn the screen BACK ON. With this and the bug above together, phone calls are a huge pain in the ass.
Dolby Atmos: This resets EQ settings very often. I can't figure out what causes it to reset to default, but the settings just never seem to stick.
Anyone have any more info on this?
Write Protection on Rooted phones: Rooted and still can't get adaway or titanium backup to work? Turns out there's an extra layer of write protection here that's not found in other phones. Why do we need this? Luckily, there's a simple fix: Plug phone into computer, load up adb, type "adb reboot disemmcwp" (source:http://androidforums.com/threads/zte-write-protection-for-zmax-and-other-zte-phones.1040331/)
Disable stock apps: in B20, you could disable several stock apps that did not allow you to disable them in settings --> apps by opening"stock Android" launcher and dragging app drawer icons to disable. Seems that has been removed in B27, so now we have no way to disable redundant clocks and calendars to name a few.
Any more suggestions? Anyone know any fixes for the above?

Good summary. I can't believe someone actually thought the notification bell (and subsequently, the inability to turn it off) was a good idea.
I'm going to try to list workarounds here as well, so if someone can come up with good fixes for any of this stuff without waiting for ZTE, please share!

But Android already has a perfectly working system to hide notification content before unlocking the device. You can even pick which apps to show and which ones to hide. And, most importantly, it's OPTIONAL. And it's actually much better at protecting your privacy. With the bell, all the content is visible without actually unlocking your phone.. it just makes it more inconvenient to access.

Settings > Themes and Wallpapers.
On the US model, there's a theme titled "Stock Android". When using that theme, you can open up the app drawer, press and hold on an app, and on the top of the screen there's a "Disable" option. This is different from the standard Settings > Apps > selecting an app > Disable (which is greyed out for most of the stock apps).

Sadly, no such option on G Version -.- only 5 slightly different ZTE themes.
Also no Myvoice in g version. WTF?!
@xxBrun0xx: I saw you linked to this list in a ZTE forum, but I think it would be better if it had its own thread as well.
In addition to "wake on plug" toggle I mentioned a few posts above, I would like to see an option to remap capacitative buttons to whatever user wants, right now they can only be "flipped", but ability to have custom functions (on both short and long press) would be helpful. I personally, would like to use one of the button for menu rather than for recent apps.
Anyone know of a way to toggle just GPS from high, battery saving, gps only. I know the location toggle works but it turns off location service. I would like to have that on but just toggle modes. I don't need gps for weather location for example but location service on mobile networks works great for most things.
Thanks

Did you look around in tasker? You might be able with it!
I would like to have that too. I've become resigned to leaving Location High Accuracy on all the time -- what Google wants me to, although I do keep Location Reporting disabled.
Long press Location in Quick Settings opens the Location screen where you can change Mode. You probably knew that already, and I realize it's not the quick toggle you're looking for. I mention it just in case.

GPS eats a lot of battery. Also I have a Nav program which does not like if both GPS and Networks are on so I have to set it to GPS only if I use it. So in fact we need a 3 way toggle: Networks, GPS and both. Well I have to go through settings, not so big deal, but I'm sure somebody could make a nice widget for this.

nope don't need root.
I found this page : SITE
but I used tasker plugin "SecureTask(free)" instead of "autotools(crippled)"
SecureTask plugin just set "location_mode" to "3" for GPS only and then "2" for Battery Save Mode.
I hope that helps.
