Hi All,
Beside all the different feature that I am using this phone for, me being quite a lawt Music videos fanatic like some of my favourite music video available and runnable on it in best quality.
Now for this, as per the knowledge that I have gather from around the interwebz have installed MX Player Pro 1.7.10 Neon and ARMV7 NEON Codecs. Before this I was not able to run my favourite Videos in high quality 720p/ 1080p generally in *.mkv format and few of them with sound format as *.dts. Now , still the *.dts sound is not playable and the 1080p videos plays with a lot of lag.
So I was wondering what is workaround to this, I mean if required a conversion to format so as there is minimum quality/ transparency/ detailing loss while playing this on my cellphone.
I tried checking around for some convertor like Arcsoft Media Converter 8, however the video quality I was getting out of it was not upto the mark, infact really bad...though I selected top setting in Mobile phone category. May be I am missing on something or not.
Advice on this will be really appreciable.
Looking forward to hear from you guys!!

Hello there Community,
I have been reading alot of these forums and on the web.
Atm using Energy 26june 23569 with 2.10.50.28_2 (best for me).
Now i want to convert some VOB (Dvd) movies/files to the best suitable extention to play fullscreen on the HD2 (i can for example make .wmv with moviemaker).
The problem is, when i convert a file of 100MB to MP4 642*480 i CAN watch them fullscreen in the default CAMvidplayer (dunno how its named), without any problem .. but when i code a vid to 1.5gb mp4, it hangs on video, and only plays sound.
Hope someone can help me with this and give me a few good instructions/links to do so.
Dont know if this topic is in the right forum though, sorry if it isnt.
Thanks!

Mark.
Ahh sorry, stupid of me i didnt even see the Q&A
there is a program called mp4hd mate it was made for the original HD but there is an extra file with it to add settings for hd2 give that a try its here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478050
I always split fulllenght movies into 2 parts, cause file above 1.5g
tend to have hiccups every 5-10min (5sec freeze).
But i never have a full picture freeze.
What bitrate are you using?
What codec are you using?
I use h264 codec around 1600kb.
Get your hands on a program called Coreplayer.
And as for converting, try to convert to 800 by 480 as that is the devices resolution. Anything below will become choppy, above isn't bad but it may cause stuttering during playback.

Wish it can be fullscreen
I've sucessfully converted several videos and full length movies to mp4 to play on my hd2 using VLC, I noticed though it's important to make sure to select a maximum resolution of 720p. Still looks good on the screen, plays full screen and no stutters or freezes. Hope that helps.
I use "Any video Converter", for all my devices, here are a few reasons why I like it...
It's really easy to trim off the beginning and the ending of videos in the apps built in player to make the videos shorter and smaller.
Remember's my custom settings
Choose my Frame Rate, Video Bitrate, Video Framerate.
Many settings with the audio choices.
Can Place multiple files to convert one after the other.
It's free and they keep updating it regularly.
Video Conversion
I used "Format Factory" to convert some AVIs for the HD2. Not only do they play now they play in HTC's video player just like Transformers. Different settings and a few different resolutions and they all seem to play just fine...
"Format Factory" is free and a small download.

I've asked this q. earlier in the ROM thread, before we got a separate forum, but didn't get any answer, so I'll try now in a dedicated thread.
I have a problem with some (not all) videos playback on Folio (foliomod 1.3b). Some videos don't play audio in standard media player or toshiba media player.
GSpot says audio in these videos are encoded as 0x2000 (Dolby AC3) AC3 - 48000Hz 384 kb/s tot , 6 chnls (3/2 .1). Video codec is XviD ISO MPEG-4.
I installed Rockplayer and when I try to play those videos in Hardware mode, they don't have audio as well. In Software decoding mode I do have audio, but video playback seems a bit 'creepy-crawly'/laggy.
I also tried several other video/media players from the Market, but none of them can reproduce audio in those video files.
kaivish had a remark about video playback earlier, I don't know if it's relevant:
but if u will use the folio for regular media playing like me, it might be better to reduce the dalvik cache to 32MB.
i have tested using rock player, and with current 64MB cache, it laggs and seeking is not working in both hardware and software decoding. there are audio issues as well with that kind of huge dalvik cache. but putting it down to 32M makes everything more fluid and media playback is at its best IMHO.

If yes, would changing dalvik cache help me with audio in these videos? And how do I change it?
I have the no sound problem too with rockplayer!
I didn't had it with the other foliomod editions, i think its software related?
I play my movies in hardware mode (it's better for the battery as far as I know..)
The wierd thing is, after restart I do get sound sometime, also I sometimes get sound after a couple of seconds.

Sound issues come from the cache size. Like I am quoted above, u have to tweak the folio to your personal use. For me those numbers work best.

Changing dalvik cache will increase performance of already supported codec videos. Some codecs are not really supported and they might play but will have video and audio issues. It will not matter what cache size you have if the codec is not really supported on tegra2 platform.

thanks for reply.
So the answer is that we can't do anything about it?
I mean, on Windows you can install any codecs you like. Can the same be done on Android?
If the only possibility is to use Software mode in Rockplayer, then dalvik cache can help make it not so laggy, can't it? How do you change dalvik cache in Android?
Sorry for stupid questions, I'm not an advanced programmer.
It may also help other users, I hope.

I am no advanced dev either. you can use a free app called vmheap on the android market. In android, there are no codecs pack which is installable, the codec needs to be built in support. So the answer is that nothing can be done, just optimise currently supported codec playback.
Hope that helps you.
Perhaps our best bet is to wait for CoreCodec to release their Android player CorePlayer which should have support for Tegra. I got an email yesterday saying that they are demoing their software including the CorePlayer for Android at CES.
So perhaps we do not have to wait that long.
On another note, I just saw a video on Engadget showing Toshibas next tablet and in that video they demoed an application which scales up sd video to HD...
Here's the link to the video.
thanks, mddsd. Let us know if you hear anything about the android coreplayer. I used that program on my old windows mobile 6.5 phone and it was very good.
kaivish, thanks for explanations. I tried that app and changed from 64 to 32, but didn't see any difference in software mode playback in Rockplayer. Audio is there, but picture doesn't move very smoothly. So, dalvik cache is probably not a solution for this particular problem.
Another option could be the announced VLC player that seems to be in development vlc have always been known to be able to play alot of video/audio formats out of the box

I saw an interesting youtube clip about the LG Optimus 2x which has the same Tegra 2 SOC as the Folio.
The LG had an app which could force the resolution output on the HDMI port to e.g. 1080p, 720p, 576p, 480p or do it automatically based on content. This is something we should have for the Folio.
I just read some interesting news, LG showed off their Optimus 2X phone (which has Tegra 2) at a press event in Sweden. According to the site www.swedroid.se which was at the event, LG demoed the phone playing a movie in H264 1080p in the container MKV. So perhaps LG has a player which can use the Tegra 2 chip and play MKV in 1080p... The playback was smooth according to the article.

lets have the firmware, then we get the pleasure of the functions
i'm still waiting for new mobile devices and the XOOM tablet to appear..
The other tegra2 tablets are pretty much chinese made tablet, and those are pretty similar in code, so not much to share between those.
So let the revolution of new tegra's come and we probably get better codec's and nice new features maybe..
Hello All,
I am running CWM and TNTlite 4.40. I am having issues playing video on it.. I tried playing the videos that it came with and some on them it would play no problem with the standard video player that it came with.. Then i tried loading my videos thru USB or microsd and it has a LAG.. I converted the video from 2GB mkv to Mp4. i used Rockplayer and it does the same thing.. The audio is fine but the video has a delay. Not sure what is going on or if it is the firmware it self. Can someone shed some light.
thanks in advance
regards

What is your video encoded at? If it's high profile H.264 you may have issues depending on resolution (and at 2GB, I'm guessing it's not a 480p video!)
A program called MediaInfo (free) will tell you how your video is encoded - if you see anything like "[email protected]", it's too much for the Tegra 2 chip to handle. It will do [email protected] with some tweaks to settings (like no p frames). One of my other posts (shold be able to search under my profile if you're really interested) has Handbrake settings for a good 720p video encode that runs like butter and isn't a space hog either.
To be safe, at the moment I'm starting this one at Q&A; but if enough useful info is gathered, or, if the mods see it fitting, I would like to move this thread to "General".
if i'm using some farmer terms, plz feel free to correct me so that the final summary is understandable for eveybody.
So the questions are:
1. Which video/multimedia player is the best for android?
- For example which one plays the most audio/video formats,
- Which one gives you the most flexibility as for screen size, zoom, aspect ratio.
2. Which (preferably free) converter to use?
2.1 What is the maximum capability of SGSII?
- How many bitrates etc. can it handle with its mighty processor? How many bitrates and other hd settings are necessary for sgsii.
Please comment
Try dice player..not free though but u can try it for a few days before purchase.

Only an answer to #2, no experience with other than the stock player (yet).
For conversions I use AviDemux.
It's multiplatform and some people I have referred to it reacted favourable as well.
Tried to get a full movie to the SII, no succes yet. (4GiB+).
Kind of curious myself if there is a filesystem which will allow that on a memorycard and leave it usable in the SII and Windows.
No best player for sgs2 ?????? i tried so many nth seems to work fully functional !
Im media playback fan my self, but just to lazy to make guides or explain alot.
1. My favorite players from market
mVideoplayer for daily use and
Diceplayer and or Moboplayer (for rare videos that don't work with hardware decoding and need software decoder)
2.0 I use MeGUI for video conversion encoding to MKV high profile x264.
2.1 SGS2 can playback "MKV high profile x264" 720p @ 60fps and 1080p @ 30fps
I use Handbrake (freeware) to convert my HD videos to 800x448 (or whatever aspect ratio the original video is) and 1000kbps (I don't use TVout, so I don't really need the extra resolution).
Since CM7's video player doesn't support subtitles which I need, I use MoboPlayer and mVideoPlayer to play my videos.
For reference, after I watched a 20min video encoded at the above settings (brightness was at ~50%), my battery lost 3-4% of its charge, which in my opinion is pretty good.
Players that are able to show subtitle on TV screen

I've already tested both players that you mentioned above and I can't get get any subtitle on TV , just on the phone's screen. Any suggestions of players that can do what I need?
Hello, this problem has been bugging me for a loong time, since my first android phone.
When I first had my HTC Hero, I found about android's DLNA capabilities and it was pretty
amazing that I could stream music and pictures to my tv, even videos in some rare occasions but
actual on-the-fly transcoding was completely impossible. Now skip ahead to my third phone, ZTE Blade III.
1Ghz and 512mb ram is quite good for what I need and I was hoping that it could transcode some poor-quality
videos I film with my phone. Why? Well, my TV has pretty small range of supported video formats and of course
that my phone records video in the unsupported format. I tried a wide varety of DLNA apps and none of them
had anything to do with transcoding. I tried twonky, skifta, bubbleupnp... No result.
Why is this so taboo? I understand if the file is in full HD but Blade III records in VGA. It shouldn't be a problem
to transcode or am I mistaken?
tl;dr need app that can transcode files in real time and send them to my tv (something like wmp but on android)
If you have a solution or idea, please share it with me and everybody else here :good:
Upgraded from blade iii to optimus l7 ii and now bumping the thread.
I know what you mean, I've had no luck getting Twonky to do transcoding, I can't find any documentation anywhere! It's driving me nuts!
I've had the most luck with PS3 Media Server. Don't be fooled by the name, it doesn't just work with PS3. It can use FFMPEG, MEncoder and VLC as transcoders, and supports realtime muxing with tsmuxer. If one of the transcoders does not play ball (for example VLC is better with corrupt files than the others from experience), there is a good chance the others will. It also supports burning in subtitles which I find really useful as I like watching foreign films. You can select which transcoder you want to use from the client itself, which is really handy!
I will try it ASAP, thanks a lot!
[EDIT]
I can't find "PS3 Media Server" on Google Play, mind sharing the link?
