Hey everyone, I have my rooted/unlocked droid dna here. I disabled "tetheringguard.apk", so I could tether ( or at least thats what i thought would work.) downloaded "wifi tether". didnt work. so i downloaded foxfi. says verizon blocked it and i would have to use PDANet+. That works fine, but i'm not paying for it, so it disconnects after an amount of time and i have to reconnect (obviously troublesome for online video games). Does anyone know a way to get tethering to work for free on the DNA? I thought i looked around enough, and I couldnt find anything. Let me know!

You can use wifi tether, you just have to tweak the settings a bit ( i have the free wifi tether for root users from the play store)
these are my settings
device-profile: HTC Rezound
Setup-method: Netd-Ndc (master)
WiFi-driver reload: Check
Keep alive : Unchecked
Shutdown timer: unchecked
Mss clamping: Check
Routing fix : Check
Disable wake-lock: Check
feel free to pm me if you still have issues with these settings.
I need to try this because I couldn't get Wi-Fi tether to work either. ....but I'll see if I can do a little tweaking.

I just tried it, and it connected to my computer, but i wasnt actually getting an internet connection. I'm going to try it again when i have more time, but these settings definitely did something to make it almost work for me. thank you!
EDIT: on my tethering now, i turned off access control and it worked. thank you SO much, i couldnt find out how to do this anywhere
Those tweaks in wifi tether been discussed a lot in gnex and rezound forums .. Access control is a nice thing , you dont need to remember wifi password ) just turn off encryption and add exclusion for er client and it works fine !

haha yep no problem. access control basically is a setting where you have to manually allow every device that connects to your wifi connection. I normally just put a password on and dont really worry about it.
glad i was able to help you!

I found these setting somewhere else but I "thanked" him anyway since it's nice to have it listed.. maybe OP could change title to thread to something a little more specific so anyone asking this question in the future could find the thread easier...
that's if they actually search before creating a new thread...
Thanks

These settings worked great. I musta tried a half a dozen tethering apps including Wi-Fi tether with no luck. It's all in the settings!

So I have searched and searched to no avail so I had to try and open a new thread.
My problem is when tethering my Evo 3d to my Playstation 3 (without a computer) I get a NAT Type 3 (strict). I can still play online with NAT 3 but with limitations, I can't join in party's with my friends and matchmaking takes some patience. I am looking for some help on how to get an Open NAT Type 2 (Type 2 means connected wirelessly with no problems).
It used to work just fine right after I rooted but then I flashed a new rom (Senseless from scrosler if I remember right) and then it would connect as Type 3.
From what I have read I think it could have something to do with the Kernel but I feel I have tried every combination I could think of. It could also be the version of wifi tether. It could also need some port forwarding... Is there any way to forward ports with any apps while using wifi tether?
Here is my phone specs
Evo 3D
Android version 2.3.3
Hboot 1.5
Rom- Omj's Evo 3D v1.1
Kernel - 2.6.35.10-gcb1cf83 (stock)
Wifi Tether version 3.1-beta8
I have routing fix checked and mss clamping checked.
I am hoping there are some Playstation users out there beside myself that can benefit from any help with this issue. Thank You

I have tried barnacle but I couldn't get it to work at all. The PS3 can't connect to ad-hoc and from what I know that's all barnacle can do. Maybe I am misinformed. I could try it again tonight.

Man, I had that issue too when I used to tether with my Evo 4G. I never could find an easy way around it. Just had to deal.
It was sad too. My connection was plenty fast.
As I remember, a buddy of mine had to do some hackery to his DSL router to even get that off strict, so I can only imagine it is pretty tough with a phone.
Can you USB tether to a laptop (or desktop), and bridge the connection with the ethernet port, and connect your PS3 to that?
That's what I used to do in Windows Mobile, before wireless tethering was a thing

I was wondering, Do you have a router that you can be flashed with ddwrt? I know you mentioned that you didn't have a computer but maybe go by a friends house for initial setup if your router is compatible?
It might be possible to set up a router as a wireless repeater. It would be
wireless phone signal to wireless router to ps3. This would only prove useful depending
on your current connection speed though. It might be something to look in to. If you do
have a way to set that up I could try to help as much as I could.
I currently use a wireless signal to a wireless router and
have it set up as a repeater.

I have computers at work that I can use to set things up so that wont be a problem. I just don't have one at home to use. I think I could definitely look into that because the logic sounds pretty solid from what I know. I wonder if what ever problem the phone is having would just get sent through to the repeater as well but who knows. I might have to PM you if I decide to go that route and I get stuck.

Even though your speed for dl/ul is really fast, ping times, packet loss, etc are probably what is causing your nat 3 type. Like the other poster said with his evo 4g, there is nothing you can do and will have to live with it. You either have to get a dsl/cable line or be stuck like you are currently.
Okay i have that tether app its the wifi tether v3.1beta6 exact same setup except i have Routing fix uncheck and have MSS clamping check and wifi-driver reload check also check on under Domain-Namesever on preferred DNS its 8.8.8.8 and alternate its 8.8.4.4 an i also have an app called filterproxy installed running. Also when ur doing ur set up on the ps3 disable the UPnP works i have NAT type 2 running check the pic
also if need the filterproxy app here it is

Thanks! I am going to try that as soon as I can. Do you think Roms/Kernels come in to play with getting it to work too? I will try it on the Rom I am running and report back with what I find when I get home and can try it. Are there any specific filterproxy settings I need to set up? I tried this method with no luck. Still Nat Type 3. I couldn't get it to work with the routing fixed unchecked either. Did you do the manual set up or the easy set up on the PS3. In your pictures wouldn't the Primary and Secondary DNS have to be the same as what is specified in the Wifi tether app? Something doesn't seem quite right but maybe I am just doing it wrong. Any more ideas would be helpful.

Hey there, two nights ago I contacted VZW and turned on my Mobile Hotspot service. My Rezound is rooted, but nothing beyond that. I tried to get it to connect to my Xoom, but the service on my phone wouldn't start. I did a battery pull, turned off WiFi and Bluetooth and nothing works. The service appears to start, but then the tick box unchecks itself and on the main network page is says "error". I've called VZW and they don't seem to know what the problem is. Is anyone who else who has recently rooted and is using the Hotspot having the same problem? Heck even if you haven't does anyone have any ideas what could be causing the problem? I've searched the forums and the web and have found numerous threads with Hotspot errors, but none are similar to the one I am having. Thanks.
I do not know how to fix the built in hotspot.... BUT if you're rooted, why on earth would you actually pay Verizon for the hotspot feature when you can use Wifi Tether for Root just fine for free??

its still worth paying because the rezound only broadcast in ad-hoc mode and lots of devices wont see your phone or even connect because of that...my verizon hotspot connects perfectly to my wii and when i use a tether application( used a variety of apps from market) they will see but wont connect because the wii doesnt support ad-hoc..so in summary keep your verizon hotspot.
also i have had problems with the hotspot after maybe an hour or less the data throughput will stop and the only way for it to function is for a restart of the phone..VZW and HTC say its a software bug and "should" be fixed in ICS i presume..i think your problem is either your phone or the kernel..have you flashed any kernels?? if not then i would suggest you run a RUU and see if that fixes things and if it doesnt i would get a replacement..Hope i helped.
I paid out of desperation truthfully. I tried four versions of Wireless Tether and none of them worked. I also didn't want to pay my hotels $12 a night internet fee so it was a cheaper option for my week away from home. I tried some market apps with no luck too. Maybe the RUU is the way to go. It did work when I first got it, must've been a free period or something. Haven't tried it since til after I rooted. But I've not modified it in any way other than root.
I use the wifi-tether just fine,
I noticed when I had originally disabled the TetheringGuard apk it didn't startup right at all (would flicker, as you said),
I reenabled the tetheringguard that came on the phone and it worked great.
both wifi' and usb tethered.
good luck!
OK, I tried OpenGarden again and sort of got it to work. I can connect my work phone to it fine, but not my Xoom or laptop. I still cannot get Mobile Hotspots to work which is OK if I can figure out OpenGarden with my other devices. Any advice? By the way, hanks for the help so far.
Well, some more searching I found I needed the WPA supplicant file for my Xoom. Now that works too. Now if I can just get the laptop to be able to obtain an IP address I'll be set.

If it's a work laptop it might require wireless encryption which if I remember correctly doesn't work on the Rezound yet. Try USB tethering for that. Barnacle can do both. On a similar not, if you're using the latest and greatest wifi tether, check mss clamping and routing fix and it should work on the Rezound...just was using mine to my Ubuntu laptop this morning.
I DELETED TetheringGuard.apk and use Wifi Tether just fine on my phone. Thats really weird.. perhaps it wasn't properly frozen or something?
I use "Routing Fix" to make it work. "MSS Clamping" seems to have no affect one way or the other. Does anybody know what mss clamping means?

I wan't able to get my laptop to get an IP address from the phone either until I used the "Routing Fix" option in Wifi Tether for Root.
I feel like an idiot but everyone keeps mentioning this mms clamping and routing fix in WiFi tether. Two questions....1 exactly what app is this, and where do I find these settings. I and running ineffabilis v1.0 and it has wireless tether. I looked in barnacle and opengarden for these settings and nada...any help would be appreciated.

I don't know that MSS Clamping is the fix so much as the routing fix is. MSS Clamping fix I believe refers to MTU Discovery issues. I won't get into it but suffice it to say that checking the box is never a bad idea.

Wifi tether which is the same app(probably different version). Wifi tether version 2.0.7 just works. Anything beyond that need the aforementioned "fixes" enabled.

Grab a file explorer (ES, Root, Astro) and check that tetheringguard.apk is still sitting in /system/app. That symptom is typical of when tetheringguard is disabled or removed.
I don't know what those settings are, but I know where they are. They are not in those two applications that you mentioned. They are settings in the Wireless Tether application for android. Google Wireless Tether for Android and its the top link. The explanation forbwhay those two settings are may be there as well.

Download the latest version here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Then place it on your SDcard and install. Make sure your phone will allow unknown sources by going to settings > application settings > and check unknown sources.
After the app installs open it up. Hit the menu soft key and select settings. In the settings, set the "Device-Profile" to Samsung Galaxy S2 and then set the "Setup-Method" to Netd (master). This will somehow enable the built-in mobile hotspot, which will give you infrastructure mode, which pretty much all computers like.
I also have MSS clamping checked. I dont have the Routing Fix checked. You can change the SSID and security settings if you want. Now, exit out of the settings and start tethering by touching the symbol in the middle of the screen. Now get on to your computer and find the network. Everything should work from there.
Good luck.
One more option
I just tried with "open garden wi-fi tether" on Stock with Jokers Higpro kernel and it works just fine.
If I remember proper when I ran the stock kernel tethering would connect but not transfer data. Kinda sound like what your problem is.

They still have PC/Laptops with Vista? Even the drug cartels forced summlgers to use Vista Laptops for directions, they figured if they got caught, border guards would laugh so hard they could excape anyway!!!

By the way, I am also stock and rooted. Running 198_7 straight up with some bloat removed and wireless tether works fine for me.
I have rooted my phone via zedomax and that worked great. I have SU, etc..
I downloaded WiFi tether but can't get it to work. I have tried a Ubuntu machine and my HP Touchpad, neither will connect. The Linux box would show the connection but it showed an icon I am not familiar with, maybe AdHoc not sure.
The touchpad didn't see the connection at all?
Any thoughts or suggestions?
make sure u have ur device set under generic ics in the wifi tether pref
For wifi tether to work:
Set profile to generic ICS (as Tickleme said)
Set MSS Clamping
Set routing fix
That'll get you running.
Mine works just fine without either mss clamping or routing fix. Only thing I had to do was set it to Generic ICS.
If you just changed your SSID or passphrase, make sure you "Reinstall binaries/config" under the options menu or whatever it's called.

Mine didn't, nor did it work without those on the Evo3D...but if it works for you guys without MSS/Routing that's cool.

Mine works just fine without either mss clamping or routing fix. Only thing I had to do was set it to Generic ICS.
If you just changed your SSID or passphrase, make sure you "Reinstall binaries/config" under the options menu or whatever it's called.

When I do this i get a error message that says it couldn't write a file or something, dam.. will uninstall and try again.. leave as is... Ok no re-install and just changed it like you said and just connected while writing this message.

Slower than crap on 3G at my house, but at least it works.. Again thanks guys..
So what is the minimum to get wifi tether to work? HTC dev unlock? Root? Or both?

Yea just root via the zedomax method and then install wifi tether, setup like mentioned in this thread and your good to go.
took all of 5 mins to root, the phone has to reboot 3 times and your done. Simple, if done with linux even easier... don't have to mess with drivers and all that crap..
Chow..
Hey guys, I have searched and tried alot of apps and setting to get wifi tethering with my phone. I am rooted, VIPERDNA ROM, S-OFF, and all the apps i use either crash or they try to use the stock tethering which states i need to buy the service plan.
Anyone have anything they use to wifi tether with their DNA? I would really like to do this but I am not going to pay that extra $ for it.
Thanks
P.S. Got a friend to come from his ThunderBolt to the DNA- He loves it!
I use WiFi tether version 3.2-beta2 ***BETA*** with device profile set to Generic ICS/JB (wlan0) & Setup Method to Netd-Ndc (master). Works flawlessy. DNA is stock rom, s-off, rooted. Also enable routing fix. I believe it's the same one in the Play Store. It has the yellow wifi logo (not the green one.)
*EDIT*
With that set-up, I can get other Android phones to run on it.
*EDIT #2*
Not sure when it was updated but now I use version 3.3-beta2-06102013 ***Synergized*** Settings are as follows:
Device-Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Setup-Method: Netd-Ndc (master)
Send Ntd Max Client Cmd: unchecked
Enable WiFi-Encryption: yes
Mac Address Spoof: unchecked
Don't disable Bluetooth: checked
WiFi-driver reload: unchecked
WiFi-driver reload 2:checked
Enable Access-Control: checked
LAN Section
MSS clamping: checked
Routing fix: checked
Miscellaneous Section
Enabled Update-Check
Disabled Wake-Lock
My DNA is completely stock, no custom ROM, no custom kernel, nothing. It is fully S-OFF & rooted. While these particular settings work for me, others (phones, roms, etc...) may need to play around with the settings to find the perfect fit. Best of luck to all.
Thanks alot! Ive used that app before but couldnt get it to work. With your settings i can!

So I did all this and it says the tethering is working but I'm not seeing my Wifi connection on my laptop? Any suggestions?
Wireless Tether on CM10.1 4.3.3 Razr XT912?
* This is REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT for me. My Samsunng Galaxy Tab 1 10.2 has a nice big screen for watching HD shows and movies, great for maps and navigation, and fun for games. Not to mention video chats and other things where I need a much bigger screen. I have unlimited data so watching HD Movies all day would not cost a cent, whether it is on the phone or granted access by the Wireless Tether for rooted phones. Verizon charges $20/Mo for that "service" whether you use it or not. I used to subscribe to the service until i got hurt and had to take disabliity. Now I still need it but no way have the money to pay for it. Stock Verizon Blur ROM Android 4.1.2, WiFi tether version 3.2-beta2, worked "right out of the box" Woo Hoo! Somebody answer please, tell me where to ask this question, ask someone else, or anything. It sure is lonely way down in here. Like having a naked swim party at your own mansion, plenty of hot women, live music, drinks, anything you want or need, just ask. And nobody shows up!
I use WiFi tether version 3.2-beta2 ***BETA*** flawlessly with all settings on auto with my Motorola Droid Razr Maxx XT012 when I run the stock, rooted ROM. Android 4.1.2. Now I want to get off stock and use a Cyanogen ROM. I cannot use 10.2 because Data is not supported for this phone in that ROM. But CM10.1 works fine, I get data (4G) and of course my phone works. But I have yet to get wireless tether to work at all on this ROM. I tried the settings that were suggested, it shows up as running, but I use a tablet with WiFi Manager on it. It has an auto-updating radar screen on it. When I turn on tether, it shows up right away, on the correct channel, with the correct SSID (Network Name). But in this CM 10.1 ROM, it does not work at all. All wifi tethers I have tried so far do not work on this ROM. Check screenshots for ROM info.
Man I got to go to bed, just fell asleep at the keyboard for a few seconds and found I had typed in 736 w characters. Time for bed, 'night y'all!
Anybody get Wireless Tether for rooted phones to work on this ROM?

I have a rooted coolpad, on the stock rom, using metro. I am using this app and used the settings that you said. I checked the log because it started with errors, When enabling the routing fix it said failed and also failed on enabling the MSS clamping

As for coolpad's, I have no experience with those. I only have HTC's: Droid Incredible & Droid DNA. Try changing the rom settings within tether.

As stated above, try changing the rom settings within the tether app.

Get the new updated version & use the settings in my recently edited post. If that doesn't work, change the Device Profile &/or Setup Method settings. Best of luck.
I used to use the Google code wifi tether, but the settings are a pain in the ass. I just bought FoxFi and have no problems at all now. It has worked flawlessly on several devices now.
Does anyone have a working wifi tether for 4.4.2?

Native WiFi Tether app is modded and working on ViperDNA 3.1.0 and most, if not all, other 4.4.2 ROMs.

Where/how are you seeing the MSS Clamping?! I think that's all I need to get this going again but it isn't showing up in my app frustrating the Hell out if me!

So even though I'm notified to activate the service through Verizon in the Native WiFi Tether app, I can still use it without being charged for it?

I tried & tried as well, looking up apps, going to app store, if they worked then Sprint would have already had app store tell my my phone it was not compatible. Plus the large amount of just BOGUS apps on playstore.
This hotspot on my phone, the one the laptop is hooked to right now is as fast or faster than my router on home network! You have to choose either HOME or WORK before windows 7 will map it out. Saw no internet connectivity past my named hotspot but after restarting the access to hotspot (& hotspot) a couple times it popped up on phone, red windows shield icon with x and had to okay it in the dropdown before it hooked up and worked.
Thanks for this!!!
