Please help me with upgrading - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, in late 2012, my s2 suddenly turned off and it was never turned on. Now, it's fixed. But it is with a new( motherboard, I think) rom. And the rom is gingerbread. So, here's my questions.
1. Is it ok to upgrade it to 4.0.4. More exactly ASNET MIUI.
2. If it is not, please suggest me how should I do.
3. Please tell me what should I do before messing with my phone (I asking you this because I'm afraid there would be something I'd forget to do )
Now, my s2
Baseband is I9100XXKI3
Kernel is 2.6.35.7-I9100ZSKI3-CL603802 [email protected] #2
Build number is GINGERBREAD.ZSKI3
4. I would like to know which region this rom is for.
There is 2 latest version of ASNET MIUI
asnet v4 i9100 rc.1.12.31 jule edition final AND
asnet v4 i9100 3.1.18 weekly build
5. Which one should I flash. Which one is better? ( this isn't against the rules, right? Just asking which version is better. )
Please help me with these things guys. I'm very appreciated.

Just download kies and it should update your phone to the latest firmware

Yeah. Planning to do that. I already downloaded Kies in the morning. But I don't have an internet. And I already have MIUI and other ICS or JB roms. That's why I am asking these questions hoping to reduce some troubles.
And I also want to know my phone is belong to which region now :-\
But thanks anyway.

[Q] Rooting the Samsung Galaxy S2 - India Version

Okay guys, First off I apologize if my post is too noobish. Yes I am a noob at all this.
I rooted my phone using steps mentioned here - http://samsunggalaxys2review.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=43
I bought my phone in india with the KE8 update, and now the About Phone section shows the following:
Android Version - 2.3.3
Bsaeband Version - I9100DDKE2
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL 161513
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.XWKE8.
I read about a post for rooting the galaxy S2 here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
and am a little bit confused. Firstly did I do the rooting with a piece of old software or something? Do I need to do the rooting again or flash my phone with some other latest software ?
Can someone please spoon feed me some info about:
1. Whether I need to infact update my software and flash my phone again
2. If so how?
Thanks a lot guys, and again sorry for being too noobish :S
flash CF-root KE8 kernal as per
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
that way you can keep your KE8 and have Root AFAIK
(take no responsibility blah blah blah)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
I found this thread here and here they have given source of the Stock KE8 Kernel. Since i have already rooted my phone, is it enough if I just flash my phone with this stock kernel to have the latest software in my phone?

yes just download the stock kernel KE8 and flash over the rooted one, and your phone will still be rooted
Well I have rooted mine yesterday after a 3 hours effort. I think there should be a thread for Noobs like OP and me which will elaborate the Steps & Methods, the Application needed etc. in a Simple way with good demonstration. Not everybody had Android before, so for the new comers this is hard, very hard to understand all these. Like I am now having difficulties with ADB, I don't even know where to install it and from where, how to use it? The devs are very easy with these stuffs and they just mention the software name, but we, newcomers to Android are getting puzzled. It's a like a 5 year old baby has to face class X straightaway.
Some basic faqs SGS1 mostly same SGS2 .

Thanks mate. Just 1 more question:
Firmware info
PDA:XWKE8
PHONE: DDKE2
CSC:ODDKE2
Build date: 18/05/2011
Generic India (ODD): www(dot)multiupload(dot)com/6OZ2KOHB07
XWKE8 Stock Kernel: www(dot)multiupload(dot)com/ZTRYIQ5S35
There was another thread where I found this. Which here should I use? What is ODD Generic India and what is the difference between this and the Stock Kernel?
And btw here is a guy that explains everything in detail on youtube:
I followed his instructions, and did exactly what he did and rooted my phone in 10 mins
www(dot)youtube(dot)com/user/mattj101101#p/u/9/XNggrd0Ptyg
Please help my new s2 a is showing kernel version:[email protected]#2 guys is this rooted handset?

This is the stock kernel which came from the Samsung factory. The phone is NOT rooted if you did not root it. You can do rooting with an insecure kernel and then revert back to the stock kernel, keeping the root intact.

aprat from KIES update there are 2 ways,
1) official ICS flash from ODIN, 2) Custom Roms flash from CWM
for official you dont need Rooting,
for flashing Custom Roms from CWM you need Rooting & CWM.
Official Roms :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
custom Roms you can find here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1204
rooting and Odin flash guides are there in my signature links
to learn more : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442549
OP Kies is your official update path download it from Samsung .
Or the XDA path as posted above but you will need to read and understand .

thank you Zacq8 and Jjegan..
thanks for quick response, suggest me which is the best and less battery consuming ROM for sg2? Official or custom?
Neither. No such thing as best. Less battery depends on how you have the phone setup & how you use it (everyone is different). Try some roms out for yourself to find out which works best for you.

What suggested by Mistahbungle +
only what we can answer as per the rule is, By flashing official ROM you will not get any suppot from Samsung, by flasing a custom rom you may get support from it's Developer through his thread in this forum.
in development section, there are not only a single post of ROM of each custom Rom thread but there are prolonged discussions on each one, go through them before selecting one...

LP7 is ICS rom, not a gingerbread one. the KL1 you found is the correct indian gingerbread ROM.
I had it, and had reflashed it sometime back. It is as stable as you can get. Here is the link again:

[Q] Stable Firmware for Galaxy S2

My dear developers,
Need a help from you.
I upgraded my samsung galaxy s2 GT-I9100 from 2.3.3(which has come with phone) to 4.0.3. At first i had many problems like ünexpectedly services has been stopped", "email services has been changed" etc.... after posting a thread in our forum,i got a reply to do a factory reset. i did that and now it is resolved.
but later i had many issues like
1) Touch screen not responding properly
2) battery drain
3) some unexpected errors.
Here are some the details about the firmware i am using.
Samsung Galaxy S2,
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android Version - 4.0.3
Baseband - I9100XXKPA
KERNAL v- 3.0.15-I9100XXKPA-CL51925 [email protected] #3
Build Number: ICS.XXKPA
So, Can anyone suggest me the right firmware to install for my phone? it will really help me if you would suggest me one.
Just post me the link where i need to download the right firmware.
Thanks in Advance.
Krishna Chaitanya from India.
for me cyanogenmod was the most stable one i ever had.
try and get the latest stable release
The most stable firmware for your S2 (if you purchased it in India) is KL1 which is GB 2.3.6.
Official Indian ICS is LP7 which is 4.0.3 which is buggy so not recommended.
You can go two ways:
1. If your emmc chip is safe (doesn't have the brick bug) , flash the LPX Nordic version. (search the forums to understand what I am talking about)
2. If it is not, and considering you are a beginner install LPG which is 4.0.3 and turn off Auto Updates.
Correct way of flashing a firmware is:
Turn off phone > Factory reset in recovery mode > Reboot while holding the Volume key+Home Key+ Power button> Flash firmware > Do a factory reset via the settings menu and choose to erase USB storage.
Firmwares are in Faryaab's thread of firmwares in the Original Development section.
PS: Please use the Q&A section to ask questions.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
And Samsung already said that GB's their most stable version
Peace
Hit Thanks & It will Disappear
Sent from S II Running Official ICS 4.0.4 with Siyah 4.1 [/size]
im goin with cm 9.1 and everything is stable enough for daily use..
If you're talking about custom roms, it's against the rules to ask for the best, but I would recommend you take a look at rootbox.

[Q] Flashing Android 4.1 on a rooted device running 4.0.4

Hey All.
I rooted my phone previously using method one from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794 and installed clockwork mod using this: http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-r...ckworkmod-recovery-on-rooted-galaxy-s2-i9100/
My phone's carrier is Optus and I am currently running Android 4.0.4 with baseband version I9I00XXLQ6 and build number IMM76D.XWLPW
I'm wanting to update my firmware to Android 4.1 .. can anyone point me in the right direction of some instructions which will enable me to do this with my current phone versions?
Thanks
I have recently flashed Jellybam onto my S2... (4.1.2)
Other than I cant find google talk on the latest version, its works perfectly.
The instructions are pretty clear once you have your phone rooted with Clockworkmod. It only takes a small number of steps and a couple of minutes.
This is the thread for the ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903162
and it points you to this site
http://www.igio90.net/device/samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100/
I'm no expert (not by a long way!) but shout if you have any questions and if I can help you out, I will!
cheers,
Paul.

Just download the rom you want from dev section, place on sdcard and flash via CWM same as you would any other rom.
