I am new to installing a custom ROM to a phone. I want to try the latest LION jelly bean ROM which is based on XXLSJ build. I want to know if i can install it on my phone. Following are my phone details.
Android Version : 4.0.3
Baseband Version : i9100DDLPA
Kernel Version : 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913
Build Number : IML74K.XWLP7
What kind of ROMs can i install on my phone?

Before installing custom ROM, your phone must be rooted

for custom ROMs you have to root first, see my signature for CF-root
here are the stock roms for ics
then just flash it with odin
dont use any ICS custom roms i used them my self and they have too many bugs, i just started using miui
I have just rooted my S2 with cf-root v5.4 but i would like to use litening rom.
my stock firmware details are as below
Build number IML74K.XWLP7
Kernel version 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913 [email protected]#3
Baseband version I9100DDLPA
I have searched for the appropiate litening rom according to my firmware and found v2.7 suitable for that.
I would like to know if I should use v2.7 or latest version of litening rom ?
Also, does litening rom also gives better battery backup against stock firmware ?

Kies says i have latest version.

I'd stay on that version if I were you. The currently released 4.0.4 versions from Samsung (leaked LQ5 and released LPM) have issues with possibly bricking your phone if you perform a wipe data/factory reset using the scripts from recovery if you stay on a stock kernel, or one that is based on stock.
From all reports, XWLP7 is very stable, and is fairly new, all things considered.

I have tried many roms but this ones is the best for me and i was wondering if i could update my siyah version of kernel so it possible and what version should i flash and what would be the changes? I dont want my batterylife to go lower its very good atm. Or is it possbile to choose other kernels like cm wat should i do reccomend me somthing please..

Development of kernels for gingerbread has stopped. The only kernel i know you can flash now is CF-ROOT kernel but i don't think that will be an upgrade for you

If you really want to try something new i would recommend upgrading to ICS or jelly bean. The custom roms are amazing and you will be very impressed. But it's up to you. You seem pretty happy with what you have now...

I would recommend a ICS or a JB ROM too. Especially the JB Roms are working pretty good. I was impressed myself.
And the Battery is also much better with JB Roms than with ICS. Then you have a variety of new Kernels to try out.
And if you are Newb or noob don't flash 4.0.4 pls

Please guide me with the procedure for flashing this ROM. Do I need to update to some firmware first or I can just flash recovery and flash this ROM and GAPPS directly. New to this MMX scene.

If you dont have Custom recovery and then install one and make a full backup
and then just follow the instructions on MIUI Rom for MMX...I have flashed it myself on my chd so I am confident that those steps are correct.
I don't think you need to update to 4.2.1 before flashing.

first update your firmware to 4.2.1
then install custom rom otherwise you will get problem ....screen flickering
Well, I haven't got the screen flickering issue...but its better to be on the safer side. So do update to 4.2.1:good:
