Source - AT&T LG Optimus G

So I've heard the Korean JB source code is coming out next week. Is that all we need to begin getting JB AOSP roms? Or are we waiting on U.S. source? Thanks!

That is all.

Oh god... They broke something then.

We have ICS source and yet no cm9. I fail to see why everyone thinks jb source is going to open a magical doorway.

Because the devs havent been trying to get CM9 that is what we have now. They want to get us the newest OS. Really all they need is certain parts of the source to make it happen. If you ask maybe you may get a CM9 rom from someone who has experience doing it. Just my two cents

My understanding is that no dev wants to build CM9 for us because of the expectation that it will shortly become useless once JB source drops and we can have 10.1. Any JB based ROM is going to have a lot more longevity than an ICS ROM, so why put time and resources into ICS at this point?

Great point indeed. I cant think of anyone who would be trying to make and ICS rom with Key Lime Pie around the corner.

I can tell you this, if someone had created an CM ICS ROM, everyone would be rocking it. At least 90% of us...

Yeah, I for one see no point to a cm9 rom at this point.
I gave it a shot, and I just ran into problems that I was not sure how I would go about fixing, so I just pretty much gave up. It will be much easier getting a CM rom out when we have everyone working together to fix the issues, especially including the more experienced developers.

It's a combo of no point if JB source is coming soon, and that the ICS source is a mess. Just because the source is out doesn't mean they can just magically type stuff and make it work. If it's terribly put together it's hard, like Samsung's KK4 source code for the Cappy.

All I was saying is I'm just saying. Lots of folks would rather have the CM options and theming and added options, that's all. It's not a complaint or accusation so much as an observation. My 2 cents, if you will.

I just recently asked the same thing.
I hope we aren't let down.
I'm starting to wonder if they release messy sources as a loophole.
They released the required source, but it isn't in the slightest bit useful.

loophole. More like sabatoge. Manufactures don't butcher the source becase they are dumb. If they put out solid source we could easily stay just as up to date as the n4. And if you did that you might not buy a new phone for a while. If you never get jb on your phone you will by the g2. The manufacturer has just as much to gain as the carrier

Please note that AOSP developers have asked that prospective downloaders wait for the greenlight to download ICS, as it hasn't entirely propogated through their system, and you may end up with a hodgepodge of files from ICS and Gingerbread if you download now.
Moving this to General as there is no development going on in this thread... just informing everyone about the release of 4.0.1

Source code release means ROMs are basically done, and we should all prep for installing them by running backups.
Remember last year how the GB ROMs for the captivate started flowing 48 hours after GB source dropped.

CM tends to be unable to go very far without the vendor-proprietary bits.
It's possible but EXTREMELY difficult. The CM team has said it'll probably be at least 4-5 months to integrate in general, that's not counting device-specific bringups.
The fastest route to ICS is likely going to be porting an I9100 release.

If nothing else this is all but official confirmation that there will be an official CM9 for the AT&T Note (albeit this was always likely) but it might also (but probably doesn't) hint that Cyanogen himself might help maintain it. This was announced months ago on the cyanogenmod blog.
Order of operations (in true geek form, the pun was intended):
1) Exynos based systems would come first.
2) Next would be MSM86xx based systems...hence the skyrocket and our Note.
Old news is no news.
Thanks for the update, it's much appreciated to see that we're nearing a release. I'll be refreshing get.cm twice as hard now.

Awful how? I have tried two ICS roms and they bludgeoned GingerBread to death.
Performance is absolutely awful. I have been ready to return this thing a few times but I am trying to hold out until the kernel source is released to see if we can get any bump in performance. Scrolling is awful, period, on every rom I have tried. I am really hoping this isnt a snapdragon S3 issue, as were ****ed if so. Then the constant redraws, lag, app hangs, etc just make me want to switch back to WP7.
Have you tried the Unofficial rom? It is fast and clean and super stable.
It sounds to me like you have a bad Note. I had one and exchanged it. It took forever for screen transitions and the SPen was super laggy which made me originally wonder what Samsung was thinking. Until I went in for a different issue (the backlight bleed on the white notes) to swap it out with a black one.
Even the Hybrid is very fluid with all of its customizations.
yeah I ran TPC, unofficial ICS, and now dagr8s hybrid at 213 dpi. Tablet mode is awesome, but useless with all the lag. I have 3 home screens and maybe 7 widgets, and its painful to use at times. My Sensation 4g SMOKES this thing.

This is just one bad experiance.......the ics roms out right now are GOOD and smooth and fast. scrolling on my note is very smooth. you may have a bad note, or are just setting it up wrong. everyone has little tweaks they do that they think help the smoothness. so in the end what im trying to say it IS NOT THE ROMS......

It really shouldnt take them very long. google did a great job with jellybean. making it extremely compatible with all kinds of hardware. for ics we had to pull ~50 commits to frameworks from qcom to get display working. on jellybean...zero. it just works. no hacks required. google really outdid themselves this time. (also cudos to caf for releasing the display drivers same day!!) just took me 3 days to realize that yea they do work lol.
So in theory it shouldnt be too hard to get jellybean up and running on devices that have aosp 4.0. Correct?

The 90 day GPL thing is something constructed by HTC so they don't have to release source, and we tolerate it for some reason. Technically source is supposed to drop the minute the OTA goes out according to GPL v2(which the Linux kernel is under).
Give it a read, there is nothing about a 90 day wait:

You are legally able to make a kernel before then, but you have to be able to do it without the HTC source. HTC can't do anything to you for building a kernel that works on the Thunderbolt. The 90 days is because most devs can't make a kernel without the source, but a kernel could be built and openly distributed before the source drops(or the OTA) with no repercussions.
Besides, I really doubt they would attempt to punish a developer that actually makes their phone worth owning. I hate sense with a passion, but ICS is ICS, and until source drops I'll be content with it(nothing against Jester, but I'm not a fan of all the changed in JMOD)

While Android is open source Sense is not, you release proprietary software before they give the OK and it spells trouble.
Just like when people get their hands on either Video games/consoles before the official release, they get banned or barred from playing online.

While I'd love to post mine early too, there is a bigger reason for all of this regarding Sense 6.0 in particular.
For more info on the subject and as to why this is considered stolen intellectual property, see this link for details.
I love that they added back a few small things and a few additional things as well.
There is now a native no lockscreen option, there are theme options, font type options, and I probably shouldn't spoil the rest.
None of them are ground breaking changes, but mostly well received in my opinion so far.
Anyway, read that link about the ordeal that transpired and you may better understand the legal precedence involved.
At this point the only thing thrilling about a new sense version release is when it's coupled with tweaks in a viper Rom. Sense still to this day, although I love many things about it, is the slowest clunkiest smartphone software I have used. Playing around with AOSP for a couple minutes and you realize just how much HTC has slowed down Android. I just wish it were faster no lagging transitions and such.
I think TouchWiz is the worst skin. That is really slow and ugly imo.

No, he cannot. That's what "No, you can't have it... Yet" means.

other sense6 roms will be posted this week im sure
since the version of the leak i got had been slightly modified (deodexed) before i got it, i dont want to get in any kind of stupid drama and bickering over who cant use whose stuff (because everyone has to get their epeen on being first out with a rom that takes all of 5 minutes to port) so i wont release the version ive been running personally....but im sure you ll see 3 or 4 other roms from other devs so it will all be good
im going to wait until a stock system pull of the m8 is available before doing anything else....and you will eventually see a viperDNA sense6 version....til then ill continue working on sense5.5 viperdna :good:

I see you said it took a whole 5 minutes to port... For some reason I can't get mine to port... I've tried four times now and it fails on setting permissions. I believe I've done everything I'm supposed to. Any advice?
