Rooting a Galaxy SIII is MUCH easier than rooting a phone with their 190 step htc-ish root...i bought my siii 7 months ago and was my first android phone, and read 2 or 3 tutorials and rooted it, easier than a jailbreak
Best regards

If you don't know what you're doing, then no.

Well, ask yourself what you would need root for. If you root, you will be sucked into the depths of the rom flashing vortex, and that's a one-way journey. Trust me on that one, mate. I tried rolling unrooted stock and lasted but a few hours of that eternal torment.

Thanks

Yeah, rooting takes literally only 3 seconds once you've set up working drivers, and have odin up and running.

Make sure you read the instructions carefully when rooting so you won't make any mistakes

Root it, overclock CPU to 3GHz, undervolt it to 0.1V and then cry here that phone became unstable.
RLY?
If you are even asking the question if you should root - DO NOT DO IT as it is OBVIOUS that you do NOT know WHAT ARE YOU DOING.

LOL!! Don't be giving this guy false advice...
To the OP:
Don't listen to skmminstones! Stick with your S2! Trust me you're just a bit bored of your S2, that's all. Once you switch the phone for the crappy xperia S. Just after 2 weeks you'll regret that decision, trust me....
Or get something that is actually an upgrade, such as the S3 and One X (As someone previously stated).
That's like suicide. You'll be crying down the line two weeks later.
A real upgrade is S3 or One X

Xperia S is a worse phone overall. Even though it has better screen resolution (worse panel though) and a better camera that's about it.
Good thing is it shoots much better videos in lowlight and does nice photos.
I would say better than S2 by a small margin in that aspect.
Overall I thought it was a really great phone until I actually played with it for a while... It's true. It is a downgrade. I am really happy to have my S2 instead of SXS even though it doesn't have 12mpix and a 720p screen.
Stay with S2 .
Why?
Because I'm here and I'm awesome.
Learn or atleast make an effort to Post in the correct section or gtfo to Xperia s forum

Xperia S is actually a last Gen phone with 12 map camera. Stay away.
i would avoid sony phones as they have started locking bootloaders on their new phone range , if your gonna stay on their rom then its ok.
heres the instructions to unlock
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
Dial *#*#7378423#*#* (or *#*#service#*#*) on your phone. This brings up the service menu.
Go to Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. Find the item for “Bootloader unlock allowed”. If the item is missing, or if its value is “No,” DO NOT continue with the rest of this guide.

Just noticed it as I read it again XD You know when you read something once on a forum then its still isn't enough to actually tell whether he is fking with him or he is serious
So this is what I learned today: Read the question twice!! <---What every teacher says to me coincidentally...
I think the sg3 is too big. The home button is in a bad position too. I played with a HTC one x. It's too big and had a permanent battery. What would I do? I have had to pull the battery out of this sg2 many times.
I think I will be staying with the sg2 for a good while. The HTC one s is the only thing a sort of like now but not enough to switch.

Help with app root method?

So, I'm attempting to help my girlfriend root her tablet from multiple hundreds of miles away, and its not easy, let me tell you. Basically, she has no access to a computer in order to complete the process, and of course she's on the latest firmware... so I'm here hoping someone is capable of creating an app that can do it for her. I see there was one in the past, but its obviously no longer working. If someone could do such a thing now... it would help me out so much, I'd be willing to pay. Thanks, guys.

Nobody because it's not possible for now.
The guy who made the sparky root method said in that thread that he'd port the newest root method to an apk format when he got a chance. Therefore, my argument is still valid.

Yes. Unlock, flash a custom recovery with fastboot (but you need a computer if you aren't rooted). And from recovery flash any ROM you want.
See, the issue here is there is no USB access on her computer, so whatever is done, it has to be from the tablet itself.

When u boot up the phone, it should say i9300 or i9305.
Or
Just go to Settings > About
Look at the "Model Number" and it will display GT-i9305 or GT-i9300

I too have been trying to root with stock FL26. I did have a rooted phone with FL26 but someone stole it at
the grocery store right out of my cart. Now I have a replacement from insurance that needs tweaking..
The guides I've seen are geared for older updates. not sure why it isn't working on the current.
You should check out life360, man. It's a phone tracker. Anyways. How did you get your phone rooted? I really need mine rooted!!

I had life360 installed, the guy took the phone down the street and pulled the battery first chance he had.
The street it was at when it updated last location was a drug dealer area. Anyway, on that particular phone I used odin in windows, similar method that I used with the original epic. Just trying to get this newest update rooted without bricking, just needed confirmation that the method talked about above would do that.

Is there a root method yet?

First day with my edge plus and I'm wondering if there is a root method and any roms worth flashing. Thanks.
Nope. Won't be for a very long time
Doubt there will be one but I am a rootaholic and since I got this phone I haven't felt the need to want to root. Does everything I need well.

No issues I bet. But probably a difficult process to get there. T-Mobile seems the best for modification, but anyhow, the s6 edge plus just has a hard lockdown because of Verizon making modification difficult, I looked at the T-Mobile variant forumns and they have a custom kernel and a few stock based modified roms
Hopefully is just a matter of time then. Thanks for the info. In the meantime I downloaded Package Disabler Pro and disabled a bunch of bloatware.
Well if you don't care about texting and talking, the tmobile variants do work with Verizon 4g. I've tested and it connects just fine.

no biggie..
to my knowledge i thought even if it did get rooted that it would no longer boot up on vzw/att? pretty sure youd need an unlocked BL regardless which most likely will not happen.. hasnt happened on vzwsammy since early s4 days lol
I don't think these phones have a good chance of getting root unless a universal method like towel root is discovered. Development is pretty much stagnant in the Verizon variants of these phones.

That is true, but it's not a dumb statement , because that is part of it too.
So, you order all you can eat fish and get charged more and draw haters because you ate all you could eat. Wouldn't you be pissed if you bought a car with free oil change for life and 2 years later they wanted to start charging you because they never foreseen you actually using it and taking them for their word.
