Hello,
I have bought the i9305 a few days before Christmas. From the beginning on, I was experiencing some problems connecting to WiFi routers. After flashing different custom roms, the problems are still there :
when I'm 2 meters away form the router there is no problem : great speed, stable connection. But when I'm like 10 meters away, I get the error message : "Incorrect Password" -> "Authentication error occurred" and I can't even connect to my WiFi. This happens at all the routers I'm trying to connect to at home and at work. I have already tried different tricks from the internet http://www.gottabemobile.com/2012/07/11/how-to-fix-samsung-galaxy-siii-wi-fi-connection-problems/. Further more I have flashed different modem firmwares. Still the same problem.
Is this a hardware failure and should I try to exchange my S3 LTE?
I had the same problem after doing a Nandroid restore on a replaced i9300. The range went very short and couldn't connect most of the time. I eventually found it was a file called .cid.info in /data that was causing the problem. Try renaming or deleting that file and then turn your WiFi off and back on. Otherwise it's probably a hardware failure.

Hi all.
A per my post in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117077
Code:
Hi all. I also have weak signal problem as well as fon router issue. The signal strength isn't as bad as being mentioned above, but still could be better.
But with my fon I can connect and connection is as showing connected, but I can't browse or have any connection to Internet whatsoever. When connecting to fon both lights on the router start flickering like normal and once connected when browsing or going to market for apps just one light blinks, when both should under normal activity.
Also I get this error message " a network error has occurred. retry or cancel and return to previous screen." when I try going to market.
I've tried setting security to none and wpa and still same no net.
Now some personal thoughts with experience with Linux and wifi. I think the problem is with driver or the firmware of wifi card on GS2. I had netgear card even thought it was claimed to work with Linux it kept on overheating and dropping connections with weak signal and every time I had to patch it to make it work properly, Many have reported same issues with other devices with Linux when it was claimed that devices should be working but were not.
My question is there anything I can do other than I haven't so far to check the problem why am not getting Internet through my fon router? Or any other checks I can do other than wifi tools I downloaded?
Thanks

Thats the router not the phone .
Set router to no security or passwords .
DELETE ROUTER WIFI FROM PHONE REBOOT AND RESET UP WIFI .

Hi, I've tried that still the same problem.
And it's not the router since every other device connects to it and many laptops and computers, without any problem.
Like I said I've tried it with wpa wep and no security just open, and still no Internet, even though it's showing as connected with signal bars at the top of the phone.
I've tried the phone with friends routers and it works on those. But not with mine which is Fonera.
Does anyone know what chip is used for wifi in these phones?
In case anyone else is wondering it's Samsung's own brand.
manufacturer=Samsung Electronics

Dear All ,
I have been suddenly encountering wifi connection issues with my S3.
It refuses to connect to any router unless i am very near to it.
There is no problem with reception as the phone can detect the wifi and has 3-4 bars
If i try connecting while far away from the router to a detected network, it just gets stuck on "connecting.."
If i connect while near the router and then walk away, remains connected but I have no internet access..
Things I have tried:
1-cycling wifi on/off , reboot phone, reboot gateway
2-turning off wifi power saver from service mode *#0011#
3-flashing a different non stock rom after doing a wipe/factory reset.
4-searched extensively for three days with no avail
If any encountered such a problem before and was able to solve it, your help is highly appreciated.

I haven't encountered this specific problem before, but I have had other problems with my S3 and WiFi. It turned out the problem was my router, which was in 5ghz mode. If you have a 5ghz router, try to switch it to 2.4ghz.
Something else you can try is to change your modem and/or kernel. Those 2 both have something to do with WiFi, so maybe it'll work.
Again, I haven't encountered your specific problem myself, these are just some suggestions.

I'm having the same problem for about 2 months now, it's driving me crazy, if anyone knows how to fix this please let us know! Thank you in advance.
AS the guy above you suggested try changing your modem and if that fails try a new kernel which should sort out the problems you are having. Or as he also suggested try your router and make sure it isnt in 5ghz mode only.
Try logging into your router's configuration and changing the wireless network channel from auto to a manual setting (e.g. 9 or 3). The only wifi problems I ever had with my S3 were (misconfigured) access points and routers.
Hello team,
My Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 (international version) started to have wifi problems after stock update to 4.1.2. After that, I´ve tried many software and hardware fixes, including changing the wifi antenna cable. The result was the same, so I decided to try custom ROMs and came straight to CM11.
The wifi signal is very weak, and I can only connect from a few meters from the router
Installed CM11, full wipe cache/data/dalvik and still the same problem, weak wifi, connection only from if close to the wireless router.
Reading all the forums on XDA and CyanogenMod, I found the wifi-fix patch, which writes "murata" on the /data/.cid.info. This fix brought me powerful wireless signal, and now I get full signal bar to my router and even see many neighbor APs... but I am not able to connect. When I try to connect, type de password and than it just goes back to "Saved, protected by WPA/WPA2". I´ve also disabled authentication on the wireless router, and the result is the same. It won't connect not even to open networks, although I see strong signal.
Deleted the wifi_fix patch (delete ¨91fixwifi¨ on init.d, delete ¨.cid.info¨ under /data and rebooting), and went back to old status: very weak wifi signal, but able to connect (associate) if I´m very close to the router.
Turned wifi on and off, airplane on and off, captured log on "Murata" and "Samsung" modes...
Strange is that my wlan mac address is 88:32:9b:xx:xx:xx, which seems to be Samsung, but the Murata brings me powerful signal (although I cannot connect).
Well, I´ve tried many solutions so far, but that´s how far I could go...
Can anyone provide me some clue to solve it? I would be very thankful to have wifi back to my phone.
Log files are in attachment
Murata log (strong wifi, not able to connect)
Samsung log (weak wifi, able to connect when very close to wireless router)
Thank you all!
I too have only a range of 3 metres, I have 7 routers in the house because of this, yet I have less than 15% coverage of the house with this device. To put that in perspective, an HTC One X and Atrix 2 has 90% coverage with 2 routers. I'm 1 metre from the router in my room and I've got 1 bar, sometimes 2 briefly.
[Edit]
Woah, I tried the fix from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/cm9-i9300-advice-t1898004/post41394293
Seeing as it can easily be reverted, it displays very high signal. What I'd expect. But it doesn't let me connect either. I also tried CM10.1 like the people who it worked for, it didn't work.
Hi All,
I just received a replacement for my V10 that suddenly died and I'm now having Wi-Fi connection issues.
When I brought it home yesterday the phone was still on 5.1.1 but updated overnight to 6.0 both experienced the same issue.
I have not rooted my device yet but will in the near future.
I have 3 different access points in my home with different id for each.
I can connect to one of them but not the other two.
When I try to connect it I eventually get a WI-FI connection error, or the connection is labeled disabled, or the connection doesn't connect and just shows saved.
I have tried:
1) reset the router
2) changed the password
3) changed to an open connection e.g. no password
4) forgotten then connection on the phone
5) restarted phone
none of these have fixed my issue.
Anyone have similar issues?
Anyone have any ideas for a fix?
Thanks you all for reading my problem.
steve
Just started having a similar issue yesterday. Stock MM, no root. Factory reset had no effect.
Maybe you can join my thread, I have problem with wifi also. You can check if we have same issue and may try my workaround http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-v10/help/wifi-mac-address-changes-reboot-h90120j-t3470140
I actually just noticed this on my phone yesterday. It seems to happen to me when the wifi signal is a bit weaker (but should still be able to connect). My wife's V10 didn't have an issue though. Haven't find a solution yet, but my wifi would also not find any connections after it would disconnect and have to rescan to locate any networks.

Have you tried to do factory reset?
The wifi randomly disconnects and with the error: Authentication Problem. The phone wont reconnect to another wifi hotspot until I manually make it do it. This happenns on the 5GHz band (I haven't tested it on 2.4). This problem doesn't happen with any other device connected to the same wifi router. Does anyone know what could cause this problem?
I had a similar problem where my G5 took ages to connect to WiFi and then it would randomly disconnect.
Try deleting every saved WiFi network you have, except for the ones you use. Just long press each one and hit "forget".
See if that fixes your problem.
I have only 2 saved networks (the 2 bands: 2.4 and 5). The wifi worked without any issue for the last two weeks until yesterday when the phone disconnected with the Authentication Problem error. I have to mention that the phone connects immediately to the wifi if I manually select the network and when I turn on the wifi.
I would then suggest the problem is with the network.
Either reset your network (unplug router, wait, replug) or try with a different WiFi.
I had an outage a week ago and that problem persisted until my provider fixed their problem. These "authentication" issues can be from anything network related.
I will try with another router. The annoying part is that I cannot reproduce the error manually, it's way too random.
