I am wondering whether the charging methods make a difference to battery life?
How do you charge your battery, and also your initial charge from new?
This is the first phone I've had that I didn't leave the initial charge on all night 16 hours initial as recommended by most phone manufacturers, and I just took it off after a few hours when it was charged up. Do you think that affects the performance of the battery? I've never charged it for more than a few hours. The main reason I don't leave it on all night is because it gets really hot, so when it goes green light, it's done for me
Do any of you let it run out past the amber warning colour as a completely flat battery is probably better to charge?
All my other phones were left on charge all night, every night, but they weren't this type of phone.... and in truth, it makes no difference whatsoever to the battery. The Motos also needed charging every day
Stunning work guys, 56 views by people I can only assume own the Hero, and nobody wants to divulge their dirty secrets about battery charging... Thanks anyway
Just look around google for Li-ion recharging, there is plenty of resources to read up on when trying to keep battery life at a maximum.

probably because the hero is so new that nobody can tell anything about the battery life? and i don't suppose any of the 56 people has two heros and did the experiment of charging one full and the other for 16 hours, only to use them in the same manner afterwards and count battery life... ?

Yeh, that wasn't actually my point, but thanks anyway!
112 now...
I was wondering how many people just got the phone, and charged it 16 hours initially or couple of hours and go, and do they leave on all night despite it getting hot.
Not hard...
You should charge it until it is fully charged but not leave it on charge extensively - excess heat may cause the battery life to reduce (although I wouldn't know how much degradation this would cause). It is probably ok every once in a while to leave it on charge overnight, in theory the phone should have circuits to protect against overcharging it anyway. 2 hours is about right for a charge cycle. You should charge it when the phone advises to do so - 15% or less charge. The Lithium Ion battery will only recharge cycle effectively a minimum of 300 times but I would estimate conservatively that is the number of times you can recharge. 2 days between recharges would give you about 2 years life out of a battery. I recharge it every two days, and charge time is about 2 hours.
Yeh, I have to charge it every day though......... Never lasts longer. I just wondered if you were supposed to do the initial first charge overnight and whether it sets the standard for the length of time you get each day after that?
i guess every hero is different. longest i used my phone without charging is 2 days with moderate use.
before i charge my phone i kill all tasks in the background and clear my browser history. might not make a difference but to me it feels better to have a fresh phone after charge.
Is that with the task killer app, or is there another way?
I can't imagine mine ever lasting 2 days.....

I'm using TaskPanel as a taskiller...
when i got the hero the battery was ~half full. i charged it for about half an hour, but had to stop the charging before it was full.
the battery doesn't last longer than one day, although i play a lot with it (obviously). when i put it to the charger i try to let it charge fully up, and i noticed that the charging is stopped when the battery is full (you see the icon in the not.bar go back to normal green battery, and the phone cools down noticably after charging is completed). concerning this i have no problem to leave it plugged in overnight. checked last night, when NOT plugged in it takes 4% of battery for ~7 hours in airplane mode.
Hi everyone!
I'm getting my prime and dock delivered today, and I can't wait!
(32gb gray, tiger direct, pre-ordered 11/25)
I have a question on the charging it 8 hours rule before using it for the first time.
I'm okay doing it, if that's what manufacturers say will prolong battery life.
(Anyone didnt do this?)
So I've read the only way to charge the dock is to attach the two together and charge it as one unit.
If that's the case, do I charge both for 8 hours, or does it have to be longer because its combined?
Thanks in advanced!

I think you should fully charge your battery.
When I got mine I didnt charge it fully and had terrible battery life, after maybe 10 charge-discharge cycles I'm having much better battery life.
Concerning the 8 hour initial charge: I didn't do it. I charged it until it was at 100%, applied the updates and after they were successful i unplugged my prime. If it says its full it is full. Thats how i see it. I'm not a battery tech or anything but to me it seems strange that it would make the battery way worse if i didn't charge it for 8 hours. As far as i can tell right now (had my third charge last night) the battery is fine and i get the expected runtime. Mine made it two days without recharging (with about 3-4 hours of hd video playback each day).
Btw: In my (german) manual it says that i should always charge the prime 8 hours or more but why should i if it is full after 3-4 hours? If this makes my battery die in 3 instead of 3.5 years screw it.
I always, always break in my batteries for any devices and I've always done it the same way. I have never ever had a single bad experience with shortened battery life span or the battery not being able to hold it's max capacity charge.
Here's what I do:
1) Upon unboxing, I completely drain the battery by using the tablet. This is the best time for you to set it up, re-download the apps (restore from Titanium Backup if you've got root), play with it a little bit, etc.
2) Charge it overnight or around 8-10 hours. Even if it says full, leave it plugged.
3) Completely drain the battery again just like in step 1.
4) Repeat steps 2 and 3 again (2nd cycle).
5) Repeat steps 2 and 3 once more (3rd cycle --the last one).
You're done! Now you can charge your Prime whether it's still 90% or 5%. At this point, try not to forget your Prime plugged in after it says full. Once it says full, unplug it. You can always clear battery stats using recovery (once/if you've rooted) or use those battery apps that can calibrate your battery. Also a note to those who will use custom roms and/or kernels, you might have to do 2 cycles of full charge-discharge, preferably after wiping battery stats, so that your battery can readjust to your new rom/kernel combination.

Your battery can only reach it's full capacity (read: x hours of use for y number of years) if you break it in properly and treat it right. It's not true for all types of batteries but I think it applies to Lithium Ions (Li-Ions), Lithium Polymers (Li-Po) as well as NiCads(?) and maybe other older batteries. You can read about it everywhere if you Google.

My English manual only says to do the 8 hour charge when new and any time after the battery has been fully discharged... which isn't the same as always.

That's interesting. Mine just says when the battery is "leer" (empty) it has to be recharged 8 hours. Looks like the true meaning has been lost in translation.
I'm wondering If someone knows about batteries for our Folio 100? maybe any with more mAh than the original?

I'd like to know that too!
I found some baterys on ebay...... they looked kind of "strange" so I decided to keep searching.... nothing so far
Where
Where I can buy a battery for my Folio?
I found some batteries on ebay at http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Ori...8-battery-PA3836U-1BRS-PABAS238-/270859820087 . On contacting the seller he said that the batteries were original Toshiba manufactured (or made by their OEM for batteries), and thus had original Toshiba labeling. However, the battery was identical to the existing one, not a larger capacity battery. Any found larger capacity batteries?
Battery life fix from 2,5 hours to 5,5 hours!
I bought a used folio and in the original OS it had battery life of 2,5 hours after couple of complete charges. I then installed ICS CM9 and no change in battery life, the device shut itself off after 2,5 hrs.
Well after Googling I decided to try the battery stats reset in CWM. After 100% charge I did the battery stats reset in CWM and went to ICS to test the battery. After about 2,5 hours battery meter was showing 6%. 3hrs still 6%. 4hrs still 6%. 5hrs still 6%. Only after about 5,5hrs it dropped to 5% and about 15mins after that it was 1% and my device shut itself off. What an improvement! And I was using wlan and watching videos etc practically the whole time!
To fix the battery meter showing 6% for several hours I have used the device many times from 100% to lower than 6% and then charging the folio with power on. Now it shows 6% only for 45mins or so and I bet after couple more cycles it will be perfect! Then ill run it to 0% once more to be sure to make use of the whole battery.
So before you buy a new battery this is definately worth a try.
PS. You don't want to drain the battery to 0 % very often because this too will have a negative effect on battery life. Maybe once every 20 cycles is ok.
Wow, I'll try to reset it on CWM and see what happens. With a normal use is lasting about 3 hours before shutting down.
Do you have news for battery?
Thank you in advance.
My old phone's (Xperia S) battery drains very fast (can't last for a day) after 2 years of use. When it was new it lasted about one and a half day. I charged it every day for 2 years and the battery became weaker. I don't want this to happen with my Z2. I use dock for charging my Z2. USB cable or dock is better for the battery? And when should I charge it? wait while the battery drains full or charge it every day and don't let it drain, just about half, or don't charge it full and get it drained every day. And how long should I charge it? just that time while it charge full or leave it charging for longer (a whole night, about 10h)
someone please
I dont think it has anything to do with the way you are using to charge your phone... It's just natural for the battery to need to be replaced after a couple of years as far as i know
As far as I'm aware, after about 500 charge cycles the battery stops charging to full capacity (although it says it is). So the battery quality degrades over time regardless.
the battery of the Z2 is hardly affected by how you charge or how many times its charged
itll start degrading over time
it should be a Li-ion battery (referencing the packaging instructions for Z2)

just charge normaly,
somehow i get the best life out of charging randomly, e.g. never 0>100% or simular but instead 20 to 60% increments gives me the best total life
in terms of wear, cant do anything with a Li-ion battery as far as i know
ok, better charge it when it gets as low as 30% and better not fully charge it, but 85-90% will be great for long term life. and never let it connected if it happened to reach 100%, also better keep it somewhere cold and definitely not under sunlight
It is said to live longer if you charge it from 50 to 90%.
That said, if you charge it from 0 to 100% every 2 days, or charge it from 50 to 90% ever day.... well... the end result is the same... it doesn't matter at all.
The battery already has safety over/undervoltage protection, therfore charching it as you like doesn't change much at all. You will see that a phone left at 100% in the charger will drop to 97-95% before it starts charging again.
i think the battery in the Z2 was said to handle about 600 cycles with less than 10% Battery degration.
if you charge it every 2 days thats about 3.5 years.
There is a lot of false information floating in this thread.(and lol Z2 deals with all, 10/10 loyalty) I was actually replying to this but I wanted a bigger audience to take better care of their battery, so check my thread out : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60299964&postcount=1
Last night the phone had 20 something, usually uses 4% per night, this morning 0, no battery OFF
I have been using MPJ battery without problems so far, it takes more charge than the original and lasts longer
2 hours charging, only 28%, something is wrong, I will take a spare battery when I go out, later will try with original to see if the problem is the battery or the phone...

The cable was not connected during the night, when it discharged, any way now it seems ok, only lost 2% in about 5 hours, no use ither than checking the time and battery load
But there is a bad contact on the USB plug, sometimes I have to fiddle with it to get contact...
HELP
Again, this time stranger, no apps on battery usage, but battery was discharging faster than usual and died at 7 am with a beep that awakened me, with still over 20% charge
-First screenshot, it died sometime the previous night, so I charged to 30%, then nothing showing, but kept the 30% charge until I charge it again around 16:00.
-Second screenshot, it has "blanks" on the chart, never noticed that before.
-Third screenshot, using more than usual during the night, it uses between 3% and 5%, and at 20% it just dies, now I put back the original battery to test, but it seems to be using more than usual
people should know MPJ battery's is trash, isnt worth the money because some weeks after they will be worst and worst!! i personnaly prefer to buy a original battery as a spare one, they are cheap now, with 19€ in LG spares site you can buy one or two and swap them, is easy, and buy a external charger from ebay or something (because LG spares site dont have that on sale i dont know why).
i will buy the external charger and one or two spare battery's soon because my battery is discharging too fast, now with 2h of videocall in skype my phone goes from 100 to 46 quickly. in the first two months i have almost 6h SoT and now i cant go longer than 4h.

The MPJ was offered to me for free to do a test, it was fine until now, I am not yet sure if it is the battery, will let you know when I am sure
By the way Android OS battery use is way down with the original battery

the MPJ battery's degradate with time, the real mah's decrease every charge. - i know what i say because i use one with my G3 almost 1 year ago and the battery is really worst than the original one!
one usefull app to have to know when your phone is 100% charge with the real mah's count is AccuBattery from playstore, there you find the real capacity of battery as welll their health...
you never should unplug the phone when the 100% pop-up shows full charged, you need to keep it from more one hour to get the full mah's and a good charge, i do this all the time and get some good battery with the original.
LG's battery isnt the best in the world but is better than MPJ for sure, i dont want a brick but if i need a excelent battery ZeroLemon 9000mah is a excelent battery, unfortunnaly they dont do the standard capacity 3000 mah for V10 only the 9000 mah...but this turn the phone is a heavy weight brick.
- see my yesterday - today full charge screens, for me is good enough!!!
P.S: The skype time is all in videocall. idk why details show only 47 minutes of camera usage!!!
In the garbage
Everything seems to be working fine with the original battery, MPJ in the garbage where it belongs, wont risk testing again
Even the "bad contact on the USB plug" was the battery failing
