hsd-pilot, i uninstalled the updates. Went to sys/apps but it will not delete because it says file is read only.
If your using Root Explorer there should be a button top right where you can change the permissions for that folder unsetting the read only

Hi guys, i am wondering if anyone have been successful updating their superuser binary files?
My NT is rooted, and i have installed busybox through the android market busybox installer. However I keep getting a message on my NT's notification bar that my SU binary is out of date, but when i go into SU to do a binary update, it show failure to update. So far this has not cause me any issues, but it is annoying that the message keep showing up after every once a while.
Has anyone been successful running the SU binary update on their NT? if so can you share your experience on how you done it?
Thank you.
Uninstall superuser, install it back from market immediately and you should be good to go. At least this worked for me.
That doesn't sound safe to do. Doesn't android need SU permission to install the SU app. That is why most none rooted device cannot simply install SU from the market to get root...
Please correct my understanding of how root works if i am incorrect.
sideload an updated .apk of SU. It will tell you it's replacing an existing file.
I had this problem and just cleared superuser data to fix it.

How is that done?
Go to the "manage applications" menu, find superuser, and click on clear data. You'll need need something like AppMenu to get to the applications menu.

Hello. I have rooted my Galaxy SII v 2.3.6 on Gingerbread build EL29 from sprint using the SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED_NODATA-OneClick method from odin found in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1433101 . My super user app was working fine until I accidentally moved it using a file explorer. The super user apk is in my systems/app folder but I can no longer access the program and none of my super user apps work. When I have tried to reroot the phone the oneclick method completes and says things went as planned, but no apk and no root access is available. Can someone please help me restore my root access. Thanks in advance, and apologies if I am in the wrong forum.
Try downloading superuser from the Play Store. Delete the superuser you already have beforehand though.

install from play store did not work
Thank you for the suggestion. Two issues, when I go to the store it says the app is already installed. Also when I try to delete the existing version, I get a permissions denied message. I am still stuck here.

Try to reroot by flashing a rooted kernel, rather than SOC.

Make sure when trying to delete, mount on root explorer should be r/w not r/o
Fixed it
Thanks very much. I used the [e4gtauto-sfx.exe] from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728 to unroot and clean up any unneeded files from the phone then I went back to the odin root and now I have restored root access. Thanks again.
i want to switch from super user to super su. Just because i think it looks better with ics. So what i did was download super user from play store, and open it. I granted it access and let it update its binary. Now super su grants all my apps access. So the next logical step i thought would be to uninstall the regular super user. but i cant find it in titanium backup? (i search for superuser, super, user and neither super su nor superuser come up)
Also once i manage to get the regular superuser removed i would have to move the super su to system apps via titanium right?
You ever come right with this bud? Also can't remove superuser app from foxhound Rom. Deleted it from system/app using root explorer but it comes back after reboot.

1. Install SuperSu from Play and update binaries. Make sure it achieves root.
2. Delete Superuser.apk from system/app using a root file manager.
3. Install Superuser from Play.
4. Uninstall Superuser thru Play.
5. Reboot phone.
No more Superuser and SuperSU should retain root functionality.
cheers mate. Updated to the latest foxhound and superuser went away. Having this issue on a buddies phone so will try your method this weekend and give feedback.
Appreciate the response.

I rooted my P500 (2.3.3) moths agoo and installed Superuser, it worked correct with Titanium Backup, ES File Explorer etc.
Now Superuser does not work correct anymore. Everything seems normal, apps do ask for rootrights and when Superuser prompt with the question for rootrights it looks normal (even in the Superuser logfile) BUT all applications wich asked for root don't work anymore.
I tried to remove Superuser but it is a "system app", for that I need rootrights ..... so I even cannot browse to the /system/app folder.
Is there a way to uninstall Superuser without totally wipe my phone?
Thanx for thinking with me.

try this and hope it works
After a complex process to repair my bricked S3 (4.4.2), I rooted the phone with Towelroot (confirmed its rooted) and installed Superuser from the Play store.
I was of the understanding that when Superuser is installed from the Play Store that the binary upgrade is not necessary. However, I have seen no indication that Superuser is working. I explored the system/bin and system/app files with ESExplorer and I got no request from Superuser to allow root access. (there are not Superuser files either location)
I also explored the files with TitaniumBackup Pro and again not peep out of Superuser.
I went ahead and tried the binary update and it fails.
I thought I'd ask for help here before I uninstall Superuser and install SuperSU (I noticed Superuser has been updated since July 2012). At this point I believe uninstalling Superuser would be successful because it is a Play Store install.
Any help/recommendations would be appreciated. As you can tell I'm a novice at this.
NOTE: Just noticed that there are not entries in the Superuser log.
Try rooting with cf-root

Thank you for the recommendation, however, I just went ahead and uninstalled Superuser and installed SuperSU. SuperSU appears to work and is managing root access as it should.
I probably would not have gone the uninstall method with Superuser, however, I installed it from the Play Store and the Play Store installation is reportedly easy to uninstall because it does not put files in system/app or system/bin......at least I read that somewhere and I checked these locations and there were no Superuser files there.
Thanks again.
Superuser is located on /system/app
su is on /system/xbin
