Latest SiyahKernel with stock rooted ICS 4.0.3.
Now, this has happened twice in the last week. I unplug the phone from my charger and place it under my pillow for the alarm to wake me up, and go to sleep. I disable both data and wifi so that twitter won't update and wake me up prematurely. Then, I oversleep about two hours, and what wakes me up is the phone that's EXTREMELY hot. The alarm doesn't go off and the battery is completely drained.
I have no idea what drained the battery and why the phone was that hot (I couldn't hold the phone for more than two seconds before I started experiencing pain). I've tried searching, but there were no topics like this one. So does anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks for the answer, but even after doing everything there I have the same problem.
A few days ago, I was able to "intercept" the process.
I had just used the phone, and put it away. Then after no more than ten minutes, I noticed it getting extremely hot. When I tried unlocking the screen, the phone had frozen, so I had to pull out the battery to turn it off. When I put the battery back in again and turned it on, the battery level was down from around 80% to around 60%. The battery graph showed like vertical drop, so it was clear that it had happened within those 10 minutes.
Is there really noone who has had this problem before?

Try N.E.A.K ICS kernel. I had some really good results with aokp rom. It's compatible with Samsung rom as well I think. Check it out
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
I'd be more worried about it setting my pillow alight
Steps.you could try:
- Wipe all data (Optional maybe an app conflicting with something)
- Update kernel or change rom to CM9 or any other stock
- If none of those work try an different battery
*I believe its an well wakelock had this when i was using siyah 3.1 Rc 1-5*
~Blizz™;
I had roughly the same problem. I did a full wipe and installed a custom from and changed the kernel... everything works perfect then. One of my friends finds taking his battery out every few days works best. Try both and see what results you get.

I would have to guess that it's either the kernel or the battery calibration. Are you using a third party battery? I think with the original samsung batteries, this must not be as much of a problem (I have never owned an original samsung battery for my S2, sadly). I know that with my fake Chinese super-cheap "2150mah" battery, which somehow is small enough to fit in the original cover which makes me think it's more like 1350mah, I have gotten horrible battery drain problems for basically no reason. But, after following the thread where it was explained to charge to 100% and then take the battery out, wait three minutes, and put it back in, I've had the phone stay at 100% for over four hours, with wifi, syncing, and all that turned on.
I should mention that I sometimes also have had this problem where it seems to be charged, then for some reason it drops to 20%.
If your battery is third party, make sure you calibrate it. I've also noticed that the more roms I flash, the worse my battery life is, so I'm trying to resist the temptation of flashing something new every twenty minutes.
Good luck.
/proc/last_kmsg
Use it.
You could try downloading Better Battery Stats and hope to identify the wakelock or app that's draining the battery. If it's not either of those and you haven't always had an issue with it under your pillow, I'd say it's time to try a wipe and new rom and if the problem persists even after that...hardware problem.
Have you been able to leave it under the pillow previously? Part of me is wondering if the overheating itself is affecting the battery and causing it to degrade though I doubt it should happen so quickly and in such an odd fashion as you're experiencing.
After a bit more tinkering and testing, I'm almost 100% certain that it's the kernel, as it was the only thing "constant" in my testing. I reflashed over and over. I also think it has something to do with the wifi, since when wifi's off, my phone is fine and doesn't get touched by the described bug. So right now, I'm waiting for SiyahKernel 3.1 to be released while keeping wifi off.
On the changelog for RC6, it says that the "battery drain issue" is fixed, and on the changelog for 3.1, it says "new wifi drivers", so I'm assuming it'll be ok once the 3.1 is released. Thanks for all your replies and help.

Hi All!
First I want to thank you guys here, I've learned everything about Android through this forum and others.
But I am facing a weird issue here.
I am running LiquidSmooth 2.5 Official Used to be on CM 10.1's Nightlies
and on The Siyah 1.9.1
I have tried everything to keep my battery fine, but its not working.
Here Are the issues:
1- When doing a HR, if battery level is 100%, it goes down to 3 or 4% and phone reboots multiple times atleast 5-7 until it works fine again, and i have to recharge the battery again. DRIVES ME NUTS
2- The charging is pretty slow now, 5 6 hours would get me to a 70% and not a 100, Tried all ways to charge, and charger and battery are working fine on other phones. though the iPhone Power Brick charged it a bit faster it took about 2 hours to a 100.
3- Discharging is pretty DAMN Fast. it would take the phone 3-4 hours of use MAX and I am out of battery on the 3G and 5-6 on WiFi, I lose about 2 percent every 2-3 Minutes. and when Idle or in DeepSleep which I am sure the phone goes to according to ''BetterBatteryStats'' it would last 7 Hours at best.
4- If Charging the Phone and using, the Battery level still goes down, until it reaches 1% then screen flickers and goes Off and i have to wait for the battery to regain charge on the boot screen with the Battery icon and the Yellow Exclamation Mark, and then After 4% I can reboot the phone, and that cycle would go on and on.
here are the Solutions I Tried:
Flashed CM 10.1 with stock Kernel and with Siyah (Updated Software Everynight)
Flashed LiquidSmooth 2.5 with stock Kernel and with Siyah.
Tried Different CPU Governors (Pegasuq, and Hotplug)
Turned off Unneeded process like (GPS and so on)
Used Different Chargers, Batteries and charging ways that work fine with any other S3 that is running on TouchWiz.
Calibrated Battery by letting it Discharge to 0% then charging to 100% uninterrupted.
I Ran out of solutions, so If someone could please HELP!! :")
Hi there Omar,
1, what exactly do you mean by hard reset ?
2. have you tried a different charger ? or a different charging port ?
3. that is indeed not the best battery life, could you tell us what app's use your battery?
It can be viewed in settings>battery
4. same as 3..
Hard Reset as in Remove the battery while phone is on, or Pressing Volume+ and Power Button.
I Tried 3 Different chargers, Sony Xperia Z, iPhone 5 (Charged it a Bit Faster) and Google Nexus 4 Besides Mine.
I dont have too many apps, actually I Uninstalled most of my apps that wake up the phone from deep sleep like Kik but What mostly uses my battery is Maps While i Dont Use it, 14% and Shazam while not in use also 12%, and the screen ofcourse 24% those are the three top consumers.
Iphone 5 ?? how did you connected it to you s3 ?
ok HR is usually referred when you factory reset your phone, that's just rebooting
But I agree it's not a normal behaviour to fall by 95% each time you pull the battery. What rom are you currently running? are you rooted ?
By the way there aren't really advantages in this kind of reboot FYI.
If you don't use the google maps i suggest disabling it via settings>apps>maps - disable.
Same about shazam try maybe another app like "soundhound" or sony "trackid"
iPhone 5 Power brick and My S3 USB Cable.
I Did disable them.
But still after working on everything I've tried most solutions and nothing is working with it!
Oh ok it's clear now
What about your phone state ? are you running stock/custom rom ?
I am running Liquidsmooth 2.5 Official and Siyah 1.9 Kernel
I Used the Liquidsmooth without the Custom kernel, only its stock one.
and Before I Had CM 10.1 Nightly with the stock Kernel and also with Siyah
Same problem with all combinations, and I Switched to Liquidsmooth because I thought the issue was from the Instability of CM 10.1 due to that its experimental, but seems not.
Well from my experience there are few cm10.1 builds that are working very good, so i guess it's not the problem.
Why not backup your rom and reinstall it(or another one from the development section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1566)
Don't forget when backing up do not backup any system app only user app.
Hey all, I'm a frequent noob to this site always asking for help because I always seem to mess up my phone in some way... So my phone was fine, then I started to notice the battery was always displaying the wrong charge. I would put the phone to charge and it would charge too 100% and when I disconnect it then it would display 60% or 90% that was just the beginning of my troubles. Now the phone sometimes has 30%+ more or less and the screen starts to flicker and lose lighting, then the phone gets really slow and ends up freezing. I go to turn my phone on and it doesn't even turn on... I leave it charging about an hour to see if that helps and when I turn it back on it says it is at 10% or so and then the same thing happens minuets later. Also at times it wouldn't even let me charge the phone it would say battery disconnected, this is the main reason why I did a fresh and clean install of a new ROM. I know it isn't my cable because I tried 4 different cables I have a few of my friends. I am running 4.1.2 with Siyah 6.0 I recent did a clean wipe of the phone to try to fix the issue and I had some issues with the new ROM. It kept saying com.android.phone has stopped blah blah blah so I downloaded a new ROM and it went fine I guess, then I uses Titanium Backup to restore all my apps and system data, then the com.android.phone message started popping up again... So I do a fresh clean install ONCE AGAIN and it works fine, I install just the apps+data no system data this time and it is still working fine. Also I moved all my apps to my SD card, when I reboot my phone it starts really slow and says loading instead of the name of the apps, also it takes about 5 minuets for the phone to work normally, at the start it is really slow and barely does anything, is that normal? I am using Lookout Security as my anti-virus. Also I use GO Launcher, is that fine or could that be an issue? ALSO I use ZDbox for an applock a cache cleaner and to kill tasks when I want to save battery life. I'm a real idiot when it comes to these things any help at all would be great, thanks.
P.S. As I am typing this my phone froze at 30% and when I reset it the number showed 14% and it has been charging ever since and is at 17% so the charging seems to be working fine for now, but not always and it loses battery life FAST, thanks for anyone who can help and give tips / answers.

No need for your life story. Might be a battery issue, might be the USB port/board. Try one, then t'other.
I had exactly the same problem. Literally, exactly the same.
I bought a new battery. Problem solved.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
For the battery issue, you can try to charge your phone completely when it reaches 15-20% (just think to shut it down before) to 100% (and let it charge 1 or 2 hours after 100%). Try this several times to recalibrate your battery. If it doesn't work I think you could buy a new battery.
How long have you got this battery? Just to let you know, a battery can be "dying" after roughly 500 charging.

I'm pretty sure it is the battery then because it is 2 years old LOL I have the same battery from when I bought it back in 2011, also I have 2 anker batteries which are a little over a year old so I'll buy a new one when I get a chance, probably a huge extended battery, I've always wanted one of those that last 3 days LOL thanks for the help guys.
Hi!
Over a month ago, I installed Cyanogenmod 11 on my Samsung Galaxy S III because I did not like Samsung's OS. I thought everything would be the same, however, I noticed that my battery now has a few problems.
1. My battery won't charge to 100%.
Sometimes it gets stuck at 83%, sometimes at 96%, but it won't charge fully. Worst, sometimes it will say my phone is charged completely, but when I shut down my phone, it says it is only charged at about 40%.
2. My battery has a huge drain.
I have a 4300mAh Extended Battery in my phone, but it will only last 8-9 hours max.
I looked at a bunch of forums to find a solution. I did a lot of battery calibrations, I wiped Dalvik cache, reboot my phone, etc.
Nothing seems to work.
Can someone help me?

Try buying a new cable. Worked for me since I used to have the same problem as you did, even if I was just on stock.
You can try to Replacement a plug.I don't know whether or not it work for you,but it useful for me.

Well, a couple of things could be up, probably rooted in the fact that you have an after-market, non-standard battery, and CM might not be fully equipped to deal with that somehow. Just a theory though.
Also, you can try and get some more info on the problem by installing Boeffla kernel (instead of CM default one). The Boeffla-Config app will give you info on charge-rate, for example. There's probably some apps out there that will offer this and more info on the battery.
Device: Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) T-mobile carrier- unlocked, Rooted ,Running stock rom with a Philz touch recovery
Problem occurred after about a week of purchasing a new battery since the old one got swelled... but i have two brand new batteries now both are not original but good quality (1 Year Warranty) With both batteries I had the Problem
Let me explain the problem :
______________________
Device would go off in at a certain battery level from 30%-50% (as for my experience):fingers-crossed:
To turn the device ON plugging in is compulsory... but then the battery would be Completely drained..
Also if you try to do a restart at a battery level which is closer to the sudden death the after re boot the battery will be at a extremely low level and wont rise...
I searched all of i can to find a cure to this because the last thing u expect in a situation is your phone dying?
Apparently the problem seems to be that the phone is reading the battery wrong? about a 40% so simple do a calibration Nope Nothing not even a change...
Here is what I tried

Calibration Methods - Apps and manualy
Reset the device
Let the battery chip reset
and all other methods
but finally i decided to reflash another stock rom :silly:
and I Downloaded This file I9100XWLSD_I9100XENLS1_XEN Since it was a Genuine Netherlands version but i decided not to go with T mobile this time:fingers-crossed:
I Wiped all the phone in Recovery then went to download mode and using Odin V1.85 I flashed the stock rom:fingers-crossed:
Turned it on using a Fully charged battery that i charged separately and i used it for some time max brightness max vol radio and gps wifi bluetooth etc. to drain the battery and at 38% phone started to flicker and turned off again:crying: (no Sim or Memory inserted no apps downloaded)
But i decided to go again i plugged it in ( never changed the batt) and let it charge for about 95% and turned all on again and this time i put on my simcard and memory and did all what i did except that i downloaded whats app and instagram. and also when it reached below 55% i Played some music and locked the phone (NO SCREEN LOCK USED) and after some time i checked batt was at 38% :fingers-crossed: immediately i locked it back and left it again....
Viola !!!!!!! last time i checked it was 15% low batt warning came ( haven't seen it in weeks) and then the battery drop was a bit fast and at 12% the screen got a little flicker so i plugged it in.. I think the problem is halfway solved, ill let the battery go some cycles and update soon.. also i will attach some screen shots off the battery level too and take a close look at the time and battery level after 15% on the pics
:victory:

So yesterday I plugged the device until it reached about 85% and unplugged it when I was going to sleep, and at about 8 o'clock this morning i noticed that the battery level has risen to 96% , I think that is because the phone slowly gets to know the battery level correctly.. and right now it 11.08 am and I had turned on Mobile Hotspot and Data from 8 am , battery level is 82%.
I'll update again tonight when the battery drains completely

Can you also share the SoT ? I know it depends on how a person uses the phone but still I want to have an idea. I might also try this to have a better battery life. I also once tried that exact stock rom but without even charging completely, I went on to another ROM. So I am gonna give it another try today . :good:

I have the same problem. when I reboot my device in most of cases the battry level showed is a 10/30% lower than before and also my phone shuts off showing 10% percent or less and the sreen brightness goes a bit crazy for 2 secs before it shuts off. I have the original Samsung battery but I also bought the 2000mAh extended kit but now this issue happens in both of them I've read that I have to callibrate battery so I will try this and post results
1. Turn off your phone.
2. Fully Charge.
3. When getting 100% signal, unplug quickly.
4. Pull off the battery and put it anywhere.
5. Wait for 180 seconds exactly (be careful )
6. Meanwhile, take this opportunity to dust off the internal compartment.
7. Put back the battery on the right side.
8. Turn on the phone.
9. Pray the Battery god

I did it and my results were this. My phone shuts off at 5%, slightly less than other times. I rebooted it once while 80% percent and remained the same. Battery lasted 2h and 40 mins with medium/high usage
I would say it fixed something for me but not a lot. Now im going to try it with the 2000mAh samsung battery
Edit1: now after another full cycle the battery lasted for more or less 3 hours with medium usage and shutted off at 8% now im going to try on my 2000mAh battery that had an 8% and it shutted of normally with the shutting off screen and without weird screen brightness tweaks

Well I think it worked for you because you had a Original Samsung Battery Right?
In SL a Original batt would only come with the phone :crying: Fakes have invaded,,
So i read some where that fakes dont have the original capacity? so if it is then it would match perfectly !
so now im in hunt of a original hopefully this is not a phone problem
No its not definetly a phone problem and it isn't a big deal to find an original samsung battery for sgs2 however the Samsung 2000 mAh battery kit its waay harder to find and the ones that I found are more expensive than when it came out
Yeah, I definitely think the problem is with your battery, so you just need to replace it.
Btw guys, what is your general Screen on Time with your standard 1650mah battery (not extended)? I'm running CM13 and I barely get 2h on a single charge, but then I read reviews from the early days of S2 and for instance here they have 4h24 browsing time (with screen at 50% brightness) or 8h video playback.
Is it all related to being a different ROM, or my battery just needs a retirement? Being a different ROM would impact so much on the Screen on Time? Also, I have auto-brightness always enabled, would that have such a significant impact?
Greetings
EDIT: Since I generally use the phone indoors I don't think that would be the difference in such a different Screen on Time

With 1650 mAh and on CM13 nightlies, my best so far is 2h and 28 mins with brightness at between %0 and %25 and only wifi is on.
That 4 hour SoT is probably on gingerbread though.

Thanks anyways

Never used SGS2 on gingerbread but it is possible I think. I remember reading on forums that people started to get worse battery life with ICS and with JB it got even worse. So yeah probably possible.

Hi Bolshoi! I will definetly update the SOT on the stock rom after the new battery arrives! I asked one of my friends who is in Netherlands to buy and send me a batt. Regards!

No its not definetly a phone problem and it isn't a big deal to find an original samsung battery for sgs2 however the Samsung 2000 mAh battery kit its waay harder to find and the ones that I found are more expensive than when it came out
