I highly suggest you to contact a kernel developer of our section so that he/she helps you to integrate cwm into the kernel ramdisk ( this will be permanent and not on the system partition ). Also, in default.prop of the ramdisk, make ro.secure=0 for adb root. Once you have CWM, get the latest Superuser binaries from here - http://androidsu.com/superuser/
By this way, any firmware version should become easy to root. I would love to help you, but I don't know how to integrate CWM into ramdisk.
Also, try extracting the zImage and ramdisk from your stock rom using this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659584
I will also try to root your latest firmware. Don't worry, there will be many devs soon. Good luck.
Note : - The above mentioned steps are only for unlocked bootloader, as it is not possible to flash custom kernels with locked bootloader.

Hi , I want to ask some question about flashing custom roms like cyanogen mod on xperia phones
Currently i have Xperia ray with unrooted gingerbread 2.3.4 , 4.0.A.2.0.42 firmware
I want to flash cyanogenmod 7 and my questions are --->
[1.] How can i unlock boot loaders without messing up DRM ? bcoz i heard after unlocking boo loaders update service and some apps wont work.
[2.] How to re lock boot loader in order to get warranty back ?
[3.] Will i need to root my phone in order to install CM7 because , in cyanogenmod wiki they not mentioned root, but i think i need to root my phone
If yes then can i use "Xperia 2011 Easy Rooting Toolkit" to root my phone running on gingerbread 2.3.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320350
[4.] how to install full functional clockworkmod recovery on xperia ray ?
[5.] While installing cyanogen mod after flashing boot.img , will i able to make backup of my stock rom ?
and how to restore it even i bricked my phone ?
or is it possible to flash ftf firmwares anytime using flashtools, or wotan . is there any official firmware tool for sony phones ?
and how to get official firmware in FTF file format
[6.] When i successfully installed cyanogenmod , will i get all option to install another custom ROM over cyanogenmod (i.e. CWM recovery and rom manager)
No developer replied my questions , after hours of research i found answers
[1]. http://androidflip.com/unlock-xperia-phones-bootloader-without-losing-drm-data-track-id-working/
[2]. re-locking bootloader is not possible this time for xperia ray , sony will solve bootloaders issue very soon , then we will not need to worry about this, although we will lose warranty
[3].no need to root your phone , it is like installing ubuntu on windows without knowing passwords
[4]. fxp made CWM for ray but this time it only works with cm7 and MIUI, there are some experimental kernels with cwm are available but i dont recommend them
[5]. of course you can make complete backup of stock rom
to restore follow this = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382088
you can also revert to stock using flashtool , follow this = http://androidflip.com/how-to-install-android-2-3-4-gingerbread-update-on-xperia-ray-st18i/
[6]. definitely you can flash any custom / stock rom over cyanogenmod
maybe u can try my tutorial, but that's language indonesian, u use google translate dude, hehehehehe....
Hello,
I've recently got a new Xperia Ray with FW 4.0.2.A.0.62 (Gingerbread). I haven't flashed anything yet and would like to do so with one of the ICS roms. But I couldn't figure out (out of the many threads around) the steps to do so on this particular FW.
I have CM9 on my Nook tablet and am very pleased with it. I would be happy to have anything that works this well (and better) on my Ray.
Can someone please point me to the steps required (rooting, bootloader ,flashing, kernel etc), and also recommend a good ICS rom (speedy, light, kind on the battery) for the .62 FW?
Appreciate any info and apologies for the sense of newbiness.
thanks.
Check this Q&A Thread for your phone.
For ROMs, look in the Ray Development section, read the topics and compare yourself.
To install one, you have to do the following:
Download the ROM you want.
If it doesn't include kernel itself, download a kernel that is compatible with this ROM.
Place downloaded .zip file on your SDcard.
Unlock bootloader.
Install custom kernel via fastboot.
Install custom ROM via Recovery.
Unlocking bootloader and kernel installation is included in my tutorial, check my signature.
Is there a tutorial for it? What you neet to do step by step. And can you use this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1682966 for the x10 mini to?
read several tutorials – if you’ve never done it before don’t rush into it
Misreading one line of instructions can mess the whole process up and leave you with a dysfunctional phone. Its not as daunting as it seems.. but you do need to know exactly what to do before you do it.... and while your doing it. Also check compatability with model numbers and software versions
for example my phone is an x10 mini pro but if I take the battery out its actually a u20i
Super one click rooted my phone without problems but i found i had to disable usb debugging and re enable it while it was doing its thing
youtube is also a good source for tutorials
I recommend this kernel and rom from NaA
if you have baseband update, the rest y very easy
the requirements are
bootloader unlocking
updated baseband
1.-search the web, update baseband to the exact model, e10i does not equal the E10A
if you install a firmware for another device, you may lose the 3G signal
2.- this post for unlocking Bootloader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481630
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17384177&postcount=3
3.-install the kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256739
4.-install the rom

I used these ones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254225 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779745

HI,
I rooted my sony experia mini e10i successfully using z4root app. now i have to unlock bootloader. what tool should be downloaded , i searched in google., many tools and many views for doing this. i am really confused. Please suggest any good and reliable tool to unlock the bootloader and please also suggest the steps for doing so. should i flash kernel and then rom or both at same time? in some tutorials they said,
1.use CWM ROM manager and flash recovery
2. poweroff and then power on , press back key
3. in recovery mode, wipe all cache,
4. install rom from sd card
Are these steps work fine for me? This is the first time i am trying these flashing custom rom. so am little bit nervous.
Please help....
Hello there.
As many of us, it's also my very first time that i'm attempting to upgrade my x10 mini's android version from 2.1 to 2.3.7 and i'm pretty worry of making it useless (bricking it? )
After spending hours and hours of reading several guides.. i was able to root my xperia, installed and log into CWM (v3.2.0.0-3) successfully. But now i have 15 different guides with 50 different steps to follow.. And now i am pretty stuck upon few basic (yes noobish) questions:
"Unlocking bootloader" means that, after installing CWM or xRecovery, we have to use the flashtool method or are we done with the unlocking part?
After getting done with unlocking bootloader, do we firstly install the new kernel and secondly the new Rom or the opposite?
Is there a way to recognize which Rom requires xRecovery or CWM before its installation?
Thank you in advance!

If you want a ROM that runs on a custom kernel you do need to unlock the bootloader, that's the only tricky part about the whole process
Which order you install kernel and rom doesn't make a difference, as long as the two are meant for each other. That said, it is common practice to install the kernel first and then the ROM.
xRecovery is (usually) only used in old ROMS that run on stock kernel, the 2.3.7 ROM you're aiming for will probably use CWM (Which is included in all custom kernels anyway). Which of the two is required is stated in the opening post of the ROM you choose.
Good luck
SmG67 you're a life saver! God bless you mate. Thank you so much for your fast, clear and accurate reply. The things i was worrying about make sense now. :good:
thnx

hi there,
thnx for your reply. but I know nobody would teach better than self-learning..... but anyway, nice and quick reply.
Hey Folks,
I Googled, I really did, so don't get angry at me...
As many others, I updated my phone to ICS, and found it really disappointing. Laggy, choppy, and the UI was messed up in few places(like getting to favorites in phonebook). Not to mention the annoying notification LED issue.
So, I went and installed CM 9.1 and tried also the CM 7.2.
Didn't like it, decided to go back to latest stock Gingerbread.
What is the latest OFFICIAL GB?
I've seen a thead about 4.0.2.a.62 on XDA forums, but the link to rapidshare wasn't working. I tired one I found on shady site(yeah, I know, stupid), but it had issues with physical qwerty, and I just didn't trust the software of a random site.
Currently, I'm running 4.0.2.a.58, but I'm receiving notification about an update to .62 via the update center in the phone, but it fails to install. (probably cause I put in a boot.img from CM 9.1 package) Also, the notification is annoying as hell. Any way to remove it?
Can someone please point me to the latest, RELIABLE GB rom? Also, is there a way to put back the original recovery image? (working download links and step by step instructions for a noob would be very appreciated)
To sum it up, how do I get my phone to be like a regular, stock phone from SE with the latest 2.3.4 android?
And no, there is no Sony service point in my country, and the vendor previously refused to honor the warranty and roll back official ICS to GB.
Welcome to the forum. Thread moved, please post all your question threads here in Q&A in future.
Also normally common questions can be answered by reading the sticky threads at the top of General like this one as they normally cover all the basics.
Thanks
AvRS
Of course you can't do an over the air update on unlocked boot loader, this can brick your phone!
The latest official firmware is 4.0.2.A.0.62 and for Germany (only?) .69 that you can download as a flashable zip
There is no recovery image, xperia devices don't have a stock recovery
You could flash a prerooted kernel for gingerbread (e.g. rage kernel), boot in cwm and flash .69 :good:
Sent from my Nexus 7 running Android 4.2.1

Thank you for the information
Now, is there a tested and working .62 image laying around? I've found one, but it messes with my qwerty, and I don't know where it came from and if someone put in bits that shouldn't be there....
The ones shown here in the forums is 4.0.2.A.0.42... (I have the sk17i model)
Hello , I am a Noob ,
I have a few questions ,
My Device
Xperia Neo V
MT11i
Android Version:
2.3.4
Build:
4.0.2.A.0.62
Kernel:
2.6.32.9.-perf ....... [did not write the entire thing]
I never updated it ,
Now , I want
1.Make a Complete Recoverable Backup of my Current OS (2.3.4)
backup my original firmware , and stock OS . So that if in future i want to go back to it , i can just use that to go back . (i hope i am able to make you guys understand)
As far as my knowledge goes , i should need TWRP Recovery , or CWM Recovery or something similar . Correct me if i am wrong .
2.Unlock the Boot-loader and Root it.
3.Install Last Officially available update , Manually and Try it out
Which is the last officially updated version available ?
4.If i Like it then OK , if not then
i will Install other Custom ROMs or CM13
Q1. i heard that Many Custom ROMs dont have FM and Camera Functions ?
Which Custom ROM has all the functionality as the Stock One ?
and is based on most updated version of android ?
5.KERNEL.
I just CANT understand this one , please help me understand it
Does any of the above need the kernel to be replaced ? by some other kernel ?
I dont have much knowledge of kernel
...................................
Other Questions:
1.Why we are Flashing both .562 kernel .587 kernel one by one ?
Shouldn't we need only one ?
2. Can i update to Latest ICS via PC Companion and then root it ?
Will it affect anything ?
3.
Quote:
Disadvantages
1. Warranty is void..gone.. ---------- No Problem
2. You cannot update using PCC or SUES( if you try them..then u'll get a message saying that the software is modified and it wont proceed) ---------- No Problem since no update will come in future
3. No more DRM(Digital Rights Management)..things like Trackid, music like..etc - I like TrackID , but TrackID works with any mobile isnt it ? so what will change ? in Track ID ?
And which Custom ROMs require Unlocked Bootloader ?
Does CM Require it ?
Please help how can i do these and please educate me about kernel too .
P.S.
I tried posting this before in the [NEO/V/L Q and A THREAD]HELP THREAD (N00B friendly) Thread but No One Replied
