I need to download GoogleServicesFramework.apk - in an attempt to load GooglePlayStore on my unrooted phone.
I realize that I must search before asking a question, but it is the searching that has caused me to ask this question.
Are there different version of this for each version of Android? I have found literally hundreds of versions of this file, all with different file sizes, which causes me some concern when it comes to downloading and installing.
Where might I go to find a safe, secure version of this for my phone?
Galaxy S3 GTI9300
Andriod 4.11
Kernel 3.0.31-457037
Hmm unrooted galaxy s3 should have it preloaded. I think you'd want it installed as a system app as well.
I suggest flashing a rom from sammobile which will all have the apk in question
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
It's not preloaded in every nation.
I don't want to have to flash my ROM just to get this to work. Right now I just want to know where a safe version of this file exists, and if they are different for each version of Android. If I went the way of flashing my ROM, not only would I be in the same situation trying to find the right ROM, but I would have the added paranoia of screwing up the phone for good.
Hmm.. no google play on an android phone? Is that possible?
Anyhow I can copy you mine if you want but mines 4.1.2.. as for flashing a rom, flashing a i9300 firmware won't screw your phone.

Again, it does not come preloaded in every country. Here in China, it is not preloaded. I have a genuine Samsung Galaxy S3, but because of the tift that has been going on between the Chinese government and Google, it is not preloaded. It is irritating as heck to be forwarded to GooglePlayStore for every app I wish to download, only to have to sit here in Chinese sites downloading questionable secondhand apps off of their bogus app markets. You would think that Google would enjoy having 1.3 billion customers. Maybe they can't preload it, but they should at least make it an option to download. (Yes, I realize that the PlayStore app is downloadable, but it will not run on the phone unless it is either rooted, and or the right apk files are loaded.
So... I need to get the files so that I can load it on this phone.
Flashing is something I am not really about to do, considering that I would have difficulty in finding a GENUINE one that has both Chinese IME AND Google, since it isn't preloaded to begin with. (Which is another reason I have not rooted the phone - I'm terrified of ending up with a mismash of European/American and lose the Chinese that I need.
I'm simply looking for the apk file, and an answer to the question of: are their different ones for different version of Android.
If it doesn't come preloaded, there won't be a "correct" version for your phone.
I'm attaching the link for mine. You'll most likely have to root your phone so you can move the apk to your system/app. But I'll leave that up to you.

AFAIK, you'll need to wait for one specific to our device. Otherwise you'll lose functionality of some of your buttons.

T-Mobile version is completely different hardware - OMAP4!
In a week or two you should start seeing ROM ports from the GT-I9100 - the differences aren't significant and in fact userland might be 100% compatible (except for the NFC stuff, which is probably only in our ROM.)
Seriously - we just got our first good stock kernel dump 2 hours ago. Expecting OS upgrades already is a LITTLE bit impatient...

+1. This is just the beginning of something great. Good solid stock kernel dump, and things can go from there. Like Entropy said, give it a week or two and we'll start seeing some Rom ports

How To Update Samsung Galaxy S2 i777 with Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware
Yeah, I'm a noob. I just received the SGS2 via AT&T web store. I'll be happy to thank anyone that can help (see I watched your video).
Has anyone done this? I've looked on this site and can't find any info for this technique. I don't want to root the phone at this time. I'd just like to get into the Amazon AppStore which is suppose to be possible with Android 2.3.5

You can download and install the amazon app store just fine on the stock att device. Go to settings, applications, and check Unknown Sources. If you go to Amazon's site they will text you a link to download the app.

I've checked unknown sources and tried getting Amazon to send me email and I haven't received anything yet.
Thanks for the reply.

once you have unknown sources checked, point your phone's browser to www.amazon.com/amazonappstoreapp and it should start the download
or you could flash Perception...It is a port of KI3 from the i9100 forum.
tchan012, you're a genius! At the minimum a heck 'o lot smarter than I. Thanks, that did the trick. I was able to D/L the Amazon Appstore app. And then the app.
Mucho thanks.
Another query. Is the only way to see where files are stored on the phone via usb cable to a computer, would be to root the phone? I found a few apps I'd like to drop into the phone via usb cable/computer but can't find the apps already on the phone.
Being a noob is frustrating.
Accidentally quoted myself instead of editing, see below. vvvv
Whoops tried to edit not quote.

You cannot see certain parts of the internal memory through the USB cable (even with root). But, you can copy over the apk files and install them on the phone. Then you can delete the apks.
You may be able to see where the apps are without root access, but you will only have read access to that folder unless you root. That's fine though, you don't want to touch those files unless you know what you are doing, deleting the wrong files will really mess up your phone.
Best way to install apps is to download the apk directly on the phone, then open it. It will install for you. Or, download on your computer and copy to your phone over USB, then open the file on your phone. I use astro as a file manager to locate and open the files, its free on the market and has lots of great features.
Hope this helps. You won't be a n00b for long, you'll pick it up quick.

Thanks quarlow, I'll hunt down Astro and give it a whirl. I can see very few files via the usb cable. I haven't tried renaming or moving anything as you say, it could be like running through the registry of windows and deleting various files and watching windows freeze forever.
Here's hoping my noobiness wears off soon.
In a couple of months I'll feel comfy 'nough to root the sucker.
It certainly is a cool phone.
If you want to make apps a part of the ROM itself (be VERY careful with this), you need root.
If you just want to "sideload" apps - root is not needed, just enabling Unknown Sources. Once you do that, you can install apps from file managers, the browser, or using ADB. (USB Debugging)
For more on ADB, if you're a Windows user you may want to check out Droid Explorer.
Thanks for the info. Are we there yet? <oops sorry, talking to the wife, she's driving...>
Okay, I've had past experience with rooting. I've owned a HTC desire which i have done all sorts with it(Flashed radios, kernels, roms, recoveries), however I know that every phone is different which is why I see myself as a noob once again.
I'm from the UK and own a unlocked GT-I9300 which is updated to jellybean. I've been searching around and got myself a bit confused. I'm looking for a way to root the device in the most easiest way. My searches kept bringing me to carrier versions :/ Just a few questions.
Does the software version(jellybean) effect the method I should use?
Does the fact that the phone is unlocked effect the method i should use?
Will i be able to flash different ROM's through a recovery? (I did with the desire)
Will i be able to sneak google wallet onto the device and use nfc to pay for stuff in the uk?
Some extra questions may be added later on.
Any help would be nice.
The reason i am rooting is because i hate limitations like wallpaper scrolling and not being able to download extra game data to the sdcard, i also think touchwiz is ugly, am i the only one?
No. Use cf-root to root your phone.
It works on all versions.
Carrier doesn't matter.
Unlocked doesn't matter.
Don't know about Google wallet but this is xda so I would say yes, it works. (Someone somewhere surely made it work)
Yes you can flash stuff through recovery.
Mobile Odin is just as easy.

I rooted mine a couple of days ago using Samsung Galaxy S3 Toolkit v6.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488
It's a great tool, and pretty easy to use and you have everything there, so you can also do a full backup after the root.
Im also kinda new to this whole Android rooting stuff, after being for 4 years an iPhone user and i managed to root it and install a custom ROM without having any issues.
Hey..
I have just rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 to update to JellyBean 4.1.2. But apart from liberty i m very much depressed that i am not been able to play games on rooted phone. i want to ask that if i unroot my phone through Superuser app would it also wash my jellybean. or if there is some way that i could play HD games on the same phone without even thinking of unrooting?
Rooting doesn't affect anything. It could be a problem with phone or with the WAY you rooted.
What root method did you use?
Also i don't think you fully understand the meaning of rooting. Or maybe i didn't understand the statement "I have just rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 to update to JellyBean 4.1.2" What do you mean, and how did you update to Jelly Bean?
I used odin for this Purpose and rooted using jellybean 4.1.2 official ROM available on internet..
That's what i meant. i hope you understand..
So u are proposing that i can use the *Unroot* option in superuser app and it wouldn't affect JB..??

Hmm, I think you are mixing the words flashing and rooting in a really confusing way, or are you saying that you flashed jb 4.1.2 with a custom kernel and then rooted? Whatever the case rooting doesn't effect games, I only know one game which does a root check (I forgot the name of the game but it was made by square enix) and that was later removed by the developer's themselves, just tell us what your actual problem is and what games are causing what kind of problems?
Sent from my GT-P6200 using xda app-developers app
Yeah. i did flashed my phone when it was gingerbread 2.3.3. then i just used odin, followed the instructions to have JB version.
Specifically In case of NFS Most wanted, First logo screen(EA GAMES) appears. and with in 5 secs it just closes down and says "Unfortunately, NFS Most wanted has Stopped* i have also tried modern combat 4. but No Luck
OK...so...
1) you're not rooted
2) even if you were....rooting will not cause problems like this, nor will upgrading Android.
3) all you have done, is update Android to the latest version.
I've a feeling that there's more you haven't mentioned......
What have you done/installed/tweaked/modded since you upgraded? The smallest thing may be important.
Also....after the upgrade, but before installing anything, did you wipe cache/data reset? Not doing so *can* cause all sorts of issues....even if it didn't result in a boot loop (which is the usual symptom).....

No Sir. i think i didn't wiped cache aur data rest.. From where do i suppose to do that cause i am certainly new to this rooting sort of things. i dont know much. infact, i have just got help from my friend to do JB on my phone.
With respect...you say you are new to all of this....
I *could* give you a step by step guide to tell you how to do it....but in all honesty, it's better for you that you search, read and learn.....
XDA has a very useful search function.....
Use it to search for 'entering recovery' and 'wiping in recovery'.....
You need to learn and understand the steps instead of just doing them. That way you're less likely to bork your phone........

I'm looking for a clean android multilanguage system without china applications and letters for lenovo a760. Have anyone tested customs ROMs for this phone? Android system which is installed on the phone is not userfriendly and I have a problem with many applications and Aero.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2434453 Try to root with this method. Remove ONLY HAVIEST CHINESE SYSTEM APPS, we still don't have a rom to flash if we delete important stuff by accident. . Use more locale 2 until maybe a ROM is developped. As an alternative market use www.1mobile.com
When I get my phone I will try to build a rom for it. I kind of know how to do it...never built one before though Any help would be appreciated
Any update on this? I've been searching for days to find any sort of modification for the a760 but to no avail.
I like the current stock rom, however some apps are in Chinese and i would like for these to be translated so i can use them.
I'd also like the latest firmware, i downloaded it several times via the OTA updater but it just sticks on 100% and if I try to access the file through the file explorer it says it's corrupt.
Thanks.
Sent from my Lenovo A760 using xda app-developers app
Once I receive it i'll start experimenting I should get it in about 1 week I guess...
I've managed to download the latest firmware for my a760 I downloaded it from my pc as when I did it on my phone it hung at 100 %
However I don't know how to install it. It's currently in the googleota folder (where the phones OTA updater downloads it too) but nothing happens in system update menu in settings.
I've tried to flash from stock recovery using sdupdate but it says no file found.
Do I need to rename the zip? Or move it elsewhere? I've had it on the root of the sd too.
I'll be more than happy to share the file with you so you can tinker with it, just let me know if you want it. However I'm guessing the majority of it will be Chinese like our current rom.
Thanks

Right considering this is the only thread on xda in regards to the a760 I will list my problem here.
I download the ota update, I couldn't install it via the phone so I flashed it through Cwm recovery, it worked and put me on the latest version, however I think I may have pressed a few wrong buttons in Cwm as it was in Chinese and i installed it blind using previous knowledge of Cwm from other devices,
Anyway the phone is operational but the new version won't allow me to use anything Google, not sure if this is fault of my own or the Chinese rom makers want us to only use their app stores.
Each time I open play store it just closes instantly, not FC it just won't load. Also when I open some apps they do FC, such as titanium backup, play services, superuser (English one) ect.
My final issue is that I cannot mount system as RW, i am rooted but still can't mount RW.
I don't know if my problem lies with the recovery image, the one i flashed before all this was a Chinese Cwm image for A706 (many reports of it working for the 706 and it did for me)
My logic is that if I can flash the stock recovery image all will be back to normal.... After the update Cwm has gone, I have android stock recovery 3e now. Any opinions on this?
Also if anyone has or knows where to get the older firmware that'd be great as I preferred it over this new one. I have asked the seller to source it for me but no reply as yet.
Thanks, and sorry for the massively long post!

This is wthat am trying to do..Flash the recovery in order to flash the gapps
I flashed the recovery using an automated bat file, I think basically it was just fastboot flash recovery recovery.img or adb flash recovery
I do not have Cwm any more, since I updated I lost it and ended up with stock android recovery.
I've had a 15 hour shift at work and have only just got home so haven't been able to get on the PC and try n fix it. But I will have a quick go now before I go to bed.
Can you link me to or upload the gapps? Are they the correct ones for a760? This may fix my Google issues

I also installed it and it gave me too many problems. It's more Chinese than the current rom and would not support anything Google. Gmail / play store / play services all blocked.

I need a stock recovery for Metro PCS Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-T999N)
Please I installed clockworkmod recovery onto my phone and didn't realize It wasn't going to be easy to remove it im trying to revert back so I can receive ota updates on my phone. Next month I heard talk about samsung releasing the kit kat update 4.4 to this phone correct me if im wrong. But if that's the case I would love to revert back so I can receive it inless you know of other ways of getting it other than installing custom roms....witch im not comfortable doing....I already messed up my phone in the process of rooting doing the ad block app....which then when I uninstalled it. I couldn't connect to the google servers.....so I had to go back and edit the host file and got it working finally but now I just want to remove this recovery I mean it seemed like a good idea at the start and I know a lot of people say it's amazing which indeed it is but I want to update my rom I know people say do complete wipe and install the stock rom and that should remove it but I'm iffy on the subject because I don't want to brick my device if it doesn't agree with something. I'm not all that new to rooting I had a coolpad quattro which I rooted in the past **** phone btw don't ever buy it. As well as my first galaxy 1 from verizon and a galaxy aspire. but im having problems trying to understand and avoid bricking my device because I haven't even finished paying it off and it's 400 dollar device plus interest.....:crying::crying:

EDIT: Here is the link to just the stock recovery image itself... http://d-h.st/XDe
Just delete the .MD5 extension to unzip the tar file. Not sure why that is
there.
The above firmware would have been about a 1gig download... doh!
So this should work? How much of a guarantee that this will? I don't wanna mess up do any professional help would be awesome.
