Duct tape it to your bike and use it as a headlamp
lol pretty much the only idea i've got right now
i use it daily as an ereader and a media device...but for the times when i do use it for anything else (newsreader, email, calendar) i couldn't live without it...i had a wifi-only tablet first and it was useless to me as wifi tether used too much battery on my phone
as with any device, we don't neeeeeed them, but once we get used to having them we can't live without them
yeah i think i wanna start reading more books.. been outta grad school for a year now, and honestly haven't read anything since lol

I use mine for browsing internet, and for sketching at home... when I don't want to power up the stationary computer.
I charge it in the kitchen where I have connected it to an amplifier, streaming music from my home network. Makes kitchen must-dos more fun.
yeah, I'm just still trying to justify it for myself when I've got a phone that's more powerful, better screen, etc etc (rezound) haha but i still like it, and the nifty red portfolio case I got for it. honeycomb is a nice change of pace

I can barely begin to enumerate the ways I use my Flyer. Let's begin with what I'm doing right now: surfing the web and commenting in internet forums. Thanks to by portable Bluetooth keyboard, this is as effortless as it was on a larger notebook.
Reading books: I use the Barnes & Noble app, which means I can highlight important passages, too.
Watching movies: especially when I'm on a long flight, the ability to whip out the flyer and watch on of the 10 or so movies I've loaded onto an SD card is great.
Playing games: I've gotten hooked on the whole tower defense genre, but there are plenty of other fun game types also.
Watching TV: I'm a Hulu+ subscriber, and the Hulu+ app works great for me.
Skype: I enjoy it, but so do my kids who get to see Grandma and Grandpa on a regular basis that way.
Taking notes: don't use this feature as much as I though I would, but I do still jot down notes on occasion.
Calendar: keep all my appointments on my Google calendar. It's nice that my phone and my tablet are in synch without my having to do anything.
Work stuff: OK, this is crazy, but true: with the Citrix receiver app I am able to RDP into my workplace virtual machine and do suff. I'm a system adminsitrator and I can and have performed emergency managment tasks remotely when I did not have access to a full sized computer. With a portable Bluetooth keyboard and the Scribe pen, I can do anything. The other day I was called, on an emergency basis to disable some thousand user accounts that had been compromised. I it all on my Flyer. And while I had access to WiFi where I was at the time, I could just as easily tethered to my 4G phone to accomplish the same thing in the absense of an open network.
awesome in thinking of getting a Motorola keyboard actually.. it's thirty bucks. hm.

Much more enjoyable reading on a tablet than 4" phone. I study on it a lot (PDF, presentations) and also the pen is really nifty for drawing some ideas up on the go. I like browsing from my bed too
I just got a view recently and debating between the kindle fire. I mainly wanted to read books and light Internet browsing. Now that I have it I'm kind of in the same situation as you looking for more ways to use it.
I'm actually getting entertained playing games but running into the issue of some games not playing well on honeycomb.

I am not rooted.
Are you running a Flyer or a View? My understanding is tha for some braindead reason Hulu+ doesn't support the View.
Also, I had the Hulu+ app installed since I was on Gingerbread. So I never had to look for it on the market while I was on Honeycomb.
I'm stock HC in the View.... Doesn't make sense at all.
you can find HULU+ in this thread...

Things I do with my EVO VIEW:
1. Read a lot of PDF Medical Ebooks.
2. Store records of patients.
2. Watch movies, TV series and listen to my favorite music on my way to work. (I love no bootups)
3. Read rss feeds.
4. Games.
5. Google Body is helping me a lot explaining diseases to my patients.

I use a Dell branded version of the iGo Stowaway keyboard. It is by far the best (and most compact) bluetooth keyboard I've used. Fits in a jacket pocket with tons of room to spare, and folds out to nearly full size. Keys have beautiful tactile feedback and nice travel. Only compromise is that the number keys are placed on the same physical key as the QWERTYUIOP keys, and you use a Fn key to produce them. You get used to it quickly.
Only problem is that the keyboard is no longer manufactured, and iGo Stowaways go for upwards of $200.00 on eBay. However, the Dell branded model (which is physically identical) are much cheaper. Got mine for $70.00
As for my workstation at work: the Android Citrix app connects you to a virtualized environment, so my "workstation" is really jut a virtual machine, so it's on all the time. What's cool is that I also have access to virtualized instanced of Word and Excel etc. Basically, your workplace must be using Citrix to host their VMs for this to work.
1.i already have an xperia play and we have 2 laptops at home as well as a desktop pc so would any of you think that it would be suitable for me to buy this eeepad?
2. should i rather wait for the eepad transformer prime infinity 4g/3g? is it significantly better?
3. Similar to other android devices, does this require unlocking/rooting to enhance the experience or is it sufficient enough out of the box?
4. can this replace a laptop? As in, work in the same way, allow me to use msn and access websites with ease (and speed)?
5.would it be possible to use my xperia play's gamepad whilst playing the game on the transformer prime?
6. would i be better off waiting for a windows tablet? they look gooood.
Thanks

There is a lot of opinion being asked here. But here is my opinion.
1) I have a beast of a laptop that acts mostly as a desktop. I have a desktop at work. I have a Droid Bionic. I have a Vita and 3DS. But I still find the Transformer Prime has it's specific uses. This will vary wildly from person to person. I don't think I would be any worse off for not having the Prime, but I do like having it.
2) I don't want to pay for another data plan, so I wouldn't wait for a 3g/4g one. Now the 1080p one, maybe I would wait for that. You know, if you're into waiting.
3) I have mine rooted, but other than that it's stock. There is a bootloader unlock too, although it still leaves a tiny but locked. I find the speed is fine, but unlocking/rooting can give features, not just speed.
4) Yes you can do most web browsing, including web-mail and even some flash sites. But to be honest, the experience is still just not up to par with a laptop. The browser is pretty good, but not quite chrome. The office apps are usable, but nowhere near as nice as MS Office. Video/music apps, ok those are mostly better than desktop ones. But really, it's not a laptop. Now, if you don't need a laptop, then great. I mean, I use my prime at school instead of a laptop and I'm a computer science master's student.
5) Probably not. At least not easily. You can however plug in an xbox 360 or ps3 controller if you have the keyboard dock or the special usb adapter.
6) Windows 8 on ARM is looking pretty promising, but once again, do you like waiting?
All in all, if you really feel you need a tablet right now and you have disposable income, then just buy one. Pick a tegra 3 you like and go with it. I like my prime despite some of the problems. But if you are iffy, then it's probably not a good time to buy one. Wait until you absolutely feel have to have one. Wait until you find something that excites you. Don't just buy one because everyone else is.

Thanks a lot, I'm not too picky but just wanted one as a laptop substitute kind of thing which would replace the need for a laptop. I don't use a laptop for much with the exception of the occasional word document, going on to MSN and some casual browsing (albeit with many tabs). Is it suitable in this case?

Yessir. It's great for casual browsing, emailing, etc. The dock is phenomenal. Lasts longer than my laptop too, unless I use super super power saving mode.
Just an FYI, this should have been posted in the Q/A section of the prime forum.

Honestly, it works fine. And yes, like any tablet, it really only runs one application at a time but you can have many more open in the background and switch back and forth. That's really easy.
As for making it better than a laptop, there's no answer to this question. Pick one up, try it out, and see if it works for you.

I know I'm bringing back a dead thread but I have some more questions.
1. Do you think tegra 3 will become dated quite soon ( due to the new chip in iPad3)
2. Whicy type of websites cant I go on?
3. Do you think it's copable and sufficient to be using it as a laptop but only being able to do one thing at a time?
4. When does the infinity release? Will the prime receive a price drop after this?
Thanks

1. no, the tegra 3 > a5x. the a5x is an enhanced dual core. teh ipad's strength is in the quad core GPU. Tegra 3 is solid and is only in one tablet so far that has been released. It's got a solid future!
2. Ummmm, java or flash heavy sites would be tough ,but dif browsers have dif strengths and weaknesses. I can't really say which sites don't work, try it out!
3. Yes, it's cut down on my procrastination and distractions 10-fold. Really this is person specific and depends on waht you need it for. some things are easier on the laptop but this is truly specific to the tasks you do on it.
4. Probably sometime in the late spring early summer. Maybe in June? As for hte price drop, ask Asus...no one knows for sure.

Seriously, man. You're asking so many questions that are specific to you and your wants. Android has limitations. Flash games are nearly impossible to play on any tablet.
As for the second questions, you really just need to try it out for yourself. Ie I can't do professional video editing on here. I can't use a USB TV tuner to watch TV on here. These limitations are specific to me.
I don't mind helping you and answering your questions, but your questions can best be answered by buying the prime from somewhere that has a good (ie 30 day) return policy. Keep the receipt and return it if it doesn't work for you.
I'm sorry I can't help more, but you should really just go for it. I'm in love with my prime as are most of the people here. Give it a go!
Good luck

I am debating on purchasing a tablet with a keyboard for school. Solely to use in class. I could use my smartphone while on the go, and my laptop for when I am in a dedicated studying area.
Does anyone else own all three devices? I was hoping someone could enlighten me about how using all three could be beneficial, or if a laptop would suffice?
Thanks.
Tablets are great to have on the family room table to browse while you watch TV but pretty useless when it comes to getting real school work done. Take the laptop to class. The phone is just that, a phone. Occasionally it comes in handy as USB mass storage if you are short a thumb drive or to give your laptop a good internet connection if the schools wifi signal is weak.

Get the note 10.1 as your tablet. I experimented this last semester with using just my note for taking notes in class using smemo, and while the functionality was awesome being able to use Swype for text entry and the pen for equations and diagrams/sketches all in one document, the larger screen of the note 10.1 would be a great tool and make note taking flawless.

Honestly...phablet (phone+tablet) and a laptop will be great for school. So go with a Galaxy Note or Note 2 and a laptop if you can afford it.

If you can only get one, get a laptop. No exceptions. A tablet is primarily a consumption device, a laptop lets you a lot more. Any school-specific software (office, photoshop, design apps, programming apps, compilers, web development, 3d modelling, etc...) is likely Windows (or Win/Mac/Linux) only. A tablet alone won't cut it.
Made my way through college (computer engineering) without a smartphone as well, had a laptop, desktop, tablet, and a mini-tablet (Android mp3 player) but just a basic prepaid phone. There's wireless everywhere on most college campuses, so you won't need a smartphone. Only bought my Note in May after graduation.
If you need high performance for school or gaming, I'd even recommend a nice custom desktop and a cheap netbook, you can always remote in to the desktop from the laptop.

I guess it really depends on what you want to do. My first 2 degrees are in computer science. I have a friend who did computer engineering but we have totally different jobs. I run a training datacenter and he designs chips for Intel. I like my job better and he likes his better.
Anyway to the OP, here's something that might get you thinking. http://clamcase.com/clambook-android-and-iphone-laptop-dock.html
I was going to buy another tablet, like a prime with the keyboard dock, but when I saw that, I decided to wait. Our phones are powerhouses and that would be just freaking cool to have.
a lot of people here mentioned they don't use their tablets anymore and I'm one of them which is another reason why I haven't pulled the trigger on a prime. My Note covers almost everything I want to do on it. when at home I run my media center, RDP into my server for upgrades, drive my boxee box. Heck if I could find a universal IR controller that allowed me to do so via wifi I'd get rid of my universal remote. This phone is just sweet, it's big enough to play games on and small enough not to feel like a burden.
I own all three. Skip the tablet. Get a laptop and phablet.
You can choose according to your budget and needs.
1. Galaxy note 10.1 + desktop.
2. Note 2 + Surface pro.
3. Laptop + S3.
4. Note + (high end) desktop.

Computer engineering? I loved it! I love low-level software as well as digital electronics hardware, and CompE is basically a low-level CS and digital systems EE combination. Great for people like me who prefer discrete/binary math to complex, real-valued math that you face in upper-level CS.

I bought the Nexus 10 32GB out of curiosity last week, unlocked it and installed AOKP And all the goodies, but now I ended up not even thinking about using it for anything.
I have been using the HTC DNA since it was released, so I wasn't impressed by the N10's screen quality but not disappointed either. For the first few hours, I thought it would replace my laptop but I found myself using my ASUS Zenbook more so than N10 or the DNA. It's not because the N10 Doesn't have any practical utilities, but rather because my laptop do things far more better. Also, I just can't figure out how to comfortably hold the tablet. I thought of buying a case with a built-in stand, but I figured that it would be more convenient to just carry my laptop around instead.
So I'm about to sell my N10 but I just wanted to know how you guys utilize it before I do.

ehhh that's based on your usage really I like to go out and travel a lot, I'm an amateur photographer and i also do vfx stuffs so my laptop is pretty bulky. I only use it when I have to. Other than that when I go out for coffee or photo day I usually carry my nexus 10 and otg usb so I could view them in a bigger screen and sort out what I don't need or need. I also use my nex during relax for youtube, web surfing...etc, I also found myself using it for a recipe in cooking lol :silly: and yes it is not as practical as a laptop but I use it because of portability. But maybe it's not for you since you have the Zenbook :silly:
In addition to checking bookmarked news sites and social networks, I use the kindle and comixology apps (the latter mainly for marvel comics). For reading, I find the N10 superior to a laptop, and for web it's most of the time only slightly inferior (except when you're thrown into an ugly mobile site designed for 3" screens).
As for holding it, I slouch with my feet on the table and find I can keep the N10 at a usable angle and distance by dropping it in my lap. You may want to experiment with various couches/tables to find your ideal position
I'm a unix system administrator by profession, and I wouldn't ever consider using the N10 for work. I still have my cheapo laptop with linux for when I need to work from home.
I use my Nexus 10 for a variety of things, but mainly for reading, gaming, communication through apps like Hangouts, Voxer, and others, and study. I use EZPDF for annotation, best annotator out there. I also use it for music, since the speakers are quite loud. I also use it to time my efforts in volunteer work and record any necessary information (Ministry Assistant), and more. I've been trying to find more uses for it myself, I've only owned it for a week now. Best Android tablet I've used, for sure!

I use it with my hands and fingers.
I found that whenever I owned a laptop it would always sit in one place plugged in constantly. I now stick with a more powerful and more reliable desktop and have a Nexus for when I go out and about since they're much more portable.
I'm at university studying computer science. I use it all the time to type notes and read pdf versions of the numerous textbooks I need, so saves a huge amount of space and weight in my bag. I also use it a lot for the web, like if I'm on a site that requires a lot of reading, I'll often load it up on my tablet even if I'm on it on my laptop just to read it, just because the screen is so much easier to read off for me than my laptops. I use my n10 a lot and it's possibly the best thing I have bought in years, the 10 inch tab fits in my life perfectly. Although I am used to the 10 inch form factor as I had the galaxy tab 10.1 for a year before I got the nexus 10 and 7.
I also have the nexus 4 and the nexus 7. The nexus 7 I mainly use as a ebook reader, to play some games that are awkward on a 4.7 and 10.05 inch screen. Also use it a lot between the large amount of time it takes to charge my n10 up
I do the same as the person above. Also use it for reading books in general, my friends steal it to play games, and it's useful for long car rides even without internet.
Only problem is, is that I am too lazy to figure out how to compile my programming assignments on my Nexus 10 :/

Is there a way to connect my phone with my Nexus 10 besides Bluetooth? Like, if I get a text message or a whats app message on my phone, I could see it on my N10?

Mighty Text. Its even notify you when someone is calling.
I generally don't really use mine at home unless my Desktop is in some kind of inoperable state (I used my N10 earlier to look up some info on a few BIOS settings for my Desktop). If I hear a notification go off, I usually go to my N4, or just minimize the game I'm playing on my Desktop and check Gmail.
I'd love to get some more use out of my N10, just need to figure out how... lol
I use it to play games. test out different ROMs. for skype/chatting when I am playing a game on my desktop. browsing the web. Sometimes watch youtube videos when I am away from desktop. listen to music.
Thanks for Mighty Text. Also what's the best combo to use it as a streaming player of my files on my computer? I wanna use it as a player and make my computer the "server".

I gave up my PC when I bought my nexus 10 so I use it for everything. Most days I just use it for the basic email, news (while on the toilet ), calendar, phone. I have a galaxy nexus but when I'm home I usually just use hangouts,Facebook, or Skype for calls off my tablet.
Its also my Netflix, hooked up to a TV. I went through 3 HDMI cables before I found one that worked on the nexus 10. For some reason it's picky.
Torrents, I have a wifi external HD I use to back things up.
I really want to add a Bluetooth speaker but I spent too much money on my Bose back when I had iPhone 3gs. Now I have to suffer with it.
GPS in the car, tethered to my phone (NFC tag). Gaming, though obviously its far from what my PC was.

Everything! Watching movies, reading emails, social media sites. For editing and sharing pictures and videos. It pretty much replaced a laptop and a desktop.
Web browsing when I'm outside in the backyard smoking or grilling, occasional games, netflix in bed, etc. I should probably use it more for how much I paid for it, but I love it as a tablet. After having a HORRIBLE experience with a TF300t it's perfect for me. No lags unless the app I'm using is laggy on all devices.
Mostly reading (news, books, comics, pocket) I also have a Zenbook but for reading the N10 is far better.

I'm using mine more than my new laptop for news, reading, games, finances, video chat and some phone calls. I only use my laptop for work, excel and Photoshop.

I use mine because it's so versatile, portable, and I'm still learning what I can use it for!! I just don't want to brick the thing!!!
I love mine!!
Greetings everyone,
The first two weeks with my Nexus 9, I used to play with it every now and then. Mostly watching videos and taking few notes. The only big thing I can think of doing on my tablet is reading ebooks.
For the past month or more, I have barely used it. Reason being that pretty much everything the tablet can do, our smartphones can do.
Maybe I am wrong to think that a Windows tablet would have been a better choice - so, I would like to hear what you guys use your Nexus 9 to if you already have a decent smartphone?
Looking forward to a good discussion

I use mine as a replacement for my 7 year old desktop. I put the desktop in storage in the basement. The only time I use the desktop is to use fastboot. I also have the Microsoft apps on the n9. I use it in meetings, for spreadsheets and PowerPoints. At home I use mostly for cruising the web. If I didnt need fasrboot for the n9 and my n5 Id ditch all other computers for good, as I no longer play pc games.
book reading, comic reading, music playing, work out tracker... occasionally use it for videos as i have other tablets and laptops that have bigger screens. i got it as a replacement for my galaxy note 8 - which is a damn good device, i just had an upgrade itch going on that wouldn't go away
i've had 3 wintabs, samsung 500t and 700t and currently still have my transformer t100. the battery life is freaking awesome on the t100 - about 11hrs of actual screen on use. only drawback is that no decent browser is very suitable for touch. chrome was the closest, but when they removed stackable tabs it worsened the experience. ie is great for touch... but it's still ie, lol.
Mainly i use it for Clash of Clans and other games, but also for web browsing, YouTube and Streaming (no local media as the 11GB free storage is ridicolous) and thats about it. I sometimes use my laptop (13") to watch movies and TV-shows but in bed i find the tablet more enjoyable for that)
For things that a phone and a laptop can't do

Hmm, when I have both my tablet and phone beside me, I will never pick up my phone. I mean, why would you prefer to read anything on your phone rather than your tablet?
i sold my chromebook and nexus 4. bought a nokia 515 (feature phone) and the nexus 9.
mostly leave the tablet at the house.
i use it for:
comic books (device is perfect for this!)
games (boombeach, madden, etc)
nba league pass
carbon poker
I use it to do my internet surfing at home. Its much more convienient than messing with my laptop just to quickly check something out. Right now I'm at work using my nexus 5 as a hotspot to surf the net on my nexus 9 (don't tell the boss ). I can't stand a lot of the mobile-optimized sites, so unless I am only with my phone, I use the tablet to view the desktop versions. I also play games and keep notes. I also use it for my music playing needs a lot of the time. I use Chordbot Pro to write music on it. That would be difficult on a phone screen.
I use mine to move questions to the Q&A section all day. ?
Just razing you..... But I will move it. ?
BTW.... My N7 is getting rusty. I think I'll be getting an N9. Not impressed with Samsung. My daughters Tab 3 is terrible. ?

It's a good device Darth. I'm a little disappointed with its lack of popularity and support. But I enjoy the device a lot. I use mine mostly for browsing, xda mostly, and use it for work where I use it while traveling so I don't have to lug a laptop around.

Thanks jd! ?
Your endorsement is enough for me!
Just gotta talk the wife into it. ?
So I actually use my for working out when I am following a program. I am currently doing Body Beast (no laughing) and ripped the videos onto my Nexus 9. That and my Jaybird Blue Budz and I have my own little private training session .

Lol, yeah, just what you need, another device to keep you busy on xda My wife is still trying to come to terms with my hobby here. I'm tech savvy and she's not. It's an alien world to most "normal" people. But I love it! Love learning new things and helping others.

Is it good for gaming like modern combat and streaming movies? Or does it get sluggish

I'd love to see a distribution of the ages of posters, in general, but particularly on this thread!! Just a quartile say, by 10 year segments. I'm in the >70; my use is primarily listening to the radio at night (poor sleeper) and mail. I find it handy for checking facts while listening/watching/reading.

this is a great device.
other great tablets are the galaxy tab s 10.5 or the z3 tab compact
they are just a bit pricier however
