[QUESTION]What kernel is better actually? - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Rafael baugis or hells fusion actually?

Also can anyone explain what a kernel actually is???????????
And what are custom kernel features over stock kernel????????
Sent from my GT-S5830i using xda premium

Rafael.Baugis is better than Hell_Lock for now. Hell_Lock is still improving his kernel.
For Stock Kernel:
1. You can not set governors for cpu control.
2. I/O schedulers are less.
3. Cpuspy will not able to work on your rom.
4. init.d will not be supported.
For Custom Kernel:
1. You can set governors for cpu control.
2. I/O schedulers are more.
3. Cpuspy will able to work on your rom. (You can see the current clock speed)
4. init.d will be supported. (You can add some tweaks with init.d)

But custom kernel has SIM contact problem.
And actually hell_locks kernel has better features like dual boot or cm7 support

Error DF XX
Hello.
I have Simplicity v4 on my Ace, and everytime i turn it on it shows this error: Error DF XX. It was doing that before Simplicity, when i had my stock rom with Rafael Baugis kernel (I got the kernel with the installation of another rom, and i restored it back to my stock rom). Can someone please tell me what this error is about?
Thanks, Mokustus

Dude..use Odin and flash stock rom with stock kernel.later install the simplicity v4 this would help much better...this worked for me..

[KERNEL][XXKI8][AOS_FIX] SuperPower BACK TO UPDATE2 SRCS

Hey flashers
Netchip´s kernel was terribly, there where thousand and one bugs.
Such max overclock to 1400 MHz, no GPU overclocking, bad scripts.
Scripts who works not, it was one big drama.
But it was also great, light, quick, not one fancy kernel.
TEST version dont have all features!
Netchip is not responsible for damage caused by the kernel and / or device.
If you encounter problems using this kernel, in what a way, I am not responsible.
You flashed the kernel, it is your responsibility.
This kernel is very very unstable, and not tested
Click to collapse
And here I come to introduce my new kernel .
It is not a big drama, it is super, fixed some bugs by Samsung, CPU overclocking to 1.6 GHz, GPU overclocking, BFQ v2-r1, BLN, bootlogo, bootanimation and much more in the future .
I am inspired by Hacre, Chainfire and HellcatDroid.
Hellcat is very kind, and helps me with ex. the compile issue.
Also Hacre was nice together me, ex. the CPU overclocking code.
But now further on the kernel, the features
-ATT sources with 2.6.37.14 kernel
-Bootanimation support, place it in /system/media/bootanimation.zip
-Bootlogo, place it in /sdcard/getin, and give it the name, logo.png
-CPU overclocking till 1.6GHz
-GPU overclocking
-BFQ v2-r1
-Removed other schedulers
-Instant root
-Busybox
-Clockworkmod 5
-KI3 initramfs
-I use the "hidden" p12 partition as tmp, so if bootlogo dont work, lemme fix it
-Compiled with AOSP 4.4.0 toolchain
-BLN
-Init.d support - /system/etc/init.d/
-EFS backup script
-Touchscreenfix set to 5 - thanks to vitalij
It is newb friendly, you can flash it via Odin, and all is installed
Thus flash it via Odin!
Flash the BETA version only if you know what you do.
Bootlogo
I have made this bootlogo for you:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
You can install it by making a file: "/hidden/bootlogo_netchip"
Reboot the system, and let it booting further.
If you want to go back to stock, flash stock firmware or take standard bootlogo and copy it in "/sdcard/getin/logo.png"
Future idea´s:
-Version with CFQ
-Fix bugs
Sources
Here you go
Changelog
Update7: Tuned a lot of I/O settings, CPU settings, GPU settings
Update8: CPU tuned
Update9: KI8, rebased on ATT sources with 2.6.35.14

Always nice to see new stuff surfacing in our forums.I'm gonna be trying this one soon.
One thing though.Have you also included any GPU voltage controlling scripts or something?Because having the ability to "overclock" the GPU is utterly useless unless we can up the volatges a little.Next available frequency is 400MHz(make no mistake, nothing else between stock 267MHz and 400MHz works.Clock values must be 800 divided by an integer),and that needs some more juice than the stock 1050mV.With Tegrak's app I used to use 1100mV just fine.
Apart from that, all seems good.Good work man.
Hi netchip and thanks for your work.
Is BLN support inserted?
You haven't written it in your kernel's features

You can only overclock the frequency not voltage, hence Hacre's script for GPU is useless. The only real viable solution for GPU OC is in combination with TegraK's module.
Maybe i´ll try later, reflashing orig ki3-kernel now.

STeVEs Custom Kernel and ROM for YP-G1 (Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 EU + USA version)

Hi all,
I'm glad to announce the first custom kernel and rom for YP-G1 - Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 EU and USA version
IMPORTANT NOTICE: DON'T TRY TO INSTALL ON A galaxy S wifi 5.0 player or a Korean Galaxy S wifi 4.0 => It will brick your device
IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you have a USA Galaxy player 4.0 install only the usa kernel. If you have an international Galaxy Player 4.0 you can install only the EU kernel or first the ROM and then the latest kernel.
Kernel changelog:
[CURRENT KERNELS]
STeVE's Kernel 3.0
-Based on STeVE's kernel 2.1
-Added all major cpu governors (interactive, interactivex, smartassv2, lazy). Interactive is now the default one for good responsivity
-Added all major I/O schedulers (sio,v(r),bfq,...). SIO is the default one
-Maximized SD card read speed with read ahead
-Init.d script support (Klin's patch)
-Overclock and undervoltage support
At default, no overclock is applied. Kernel is tweaked for good battery/performance ratio. If you want you can tune your parameters using SetCPU (available on market) or similar programs.
USA Download: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/59125319/STeVEs-3.0-USA.tar
EU Download: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/59125319/STeVEs-3.0-EU.tar
[OLD KERNELS]
STeVE's Kernel 2.1 for YP-G1 USA only (thanks -sandro- for testing)
-Based on STeVE's 1.0 Kernel
-Added ClockWorkMod Recovery: you can flash zip updates, backup/restore the whole rom, mount storage on recovery and more
-Works with stock samsung gingerbread rom.
-To use voodoo sound you need, after kernel flashing with odin, to install Voodoo control or Voodoo Control Plus
NOTE: Don't use ROM Manager: it's a modified version of CWM so it won't work correctly
Download link to the kernel flashable tar with Odin:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/59125319/STeVEs-2.1-USA.tar
STeVE's Kernel 2.1 for YP-G1 EU only
-Based on STeVE's 1.0 Kernel
-Added ClockWorkMod Recovery: you can flash zip updates, backup/restore the whole rom, mount storage on recovery and more
-Can work with XXKPN and XXKPQ stock samsung rom.
-To use voodoo sound you need, after kernel flashing with odin, to install Voodoo control or Voodoo Control Plus
NOTE: Don't use ROM Manager: it's a modified version of CWM so it won't work correctly
Download link to the kernel flashable tar with Odin: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/59125319/STeVEs-2.1-EU.tar
STeVE's Kernel 1.0 for YP-G1 EU only
-Based on Original XXKPQ Kernel
-Added Voodoo sound patches
-Can work with XXKPN and XXKPQ stock samsung rom.
-To use voodoo sound you need, after kernel flashing with odin, to install Voodoo control or Voodoo Control Plus
ROM Changelog - only for YP-G1 EU:
-Contains the STeVE's Kernel 1.0. If you want to update to kernel 2.1, flash it after flashing the rom
-Based on original XXKPQ samsung stock rom
-Contains root and superuser permissions
-Tweaked theme: honeycomb statusbar icons, transparent notification pane, ICS windows effects
-CRT screen off animation
-If you start from a XXKPN or XXKPQ you can skip wipe to keep your existing applications and settings
Here's the link to the rom flashable TAR with ODIN: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/59125319/steves-10.tar
ODIN flash instructions:
1) Put your player in DOWNLOAD MODE (With the device powered off press simultaneously Power button, menu button and volume down button until a green android symbol appears)
2) open ODIN and connect your player via usb
3) in ODIN window select PDA and choose the packet tar you want to flash
4) Keep sure Re-Partition in unselected (OR YOU WILL BRICK THE DEVICE)
5) Press start and Wait the end of the procedure (don't disconnect the device until flashing is complete or you will brick the device)
Note: Please try this at your own risk. I will not be responsible for bricked devices

I don't know if it helps but maybe it don't work because it is not like the normal android devices because samsung devices use initramfs.

I mean what changes? The source where to start from?
Hey folks
Should the room work with TAIWAN/HONGKONG version?
Anyone here has tried with it???
I have mine that was bought in Taiwan. Still in the Stock Rom now
Added USA version in first post. Also 2.1 changed to stable.

Yes - consider this a request for source code in accordance with section 3 of the GNU General Public License version 2 under which the Linux kernel is licensed.
Happy voodoo sound to all
Has anyone tested and confirmed working on the 4.0 U.S model?

Please report if there is some issues with these kernel, I'm not a real kernel developers (just applying patches i think it doesn't count), I don't understand any C language, but I'll try to do my best to fixed it.
However I am NOT responsible if you damage your phone! please use it at your own risk!
How to Use it:
make backup of your original wlan modules
Put the downloaded wlan module (xxxxx_wlan_v3.zip) in your sdcard
Power off the phone
Connect the phone to the PC while pressing up volume to enter fastboot mode (the led is turning blue)
Use Flashtool to flash the boot.img or using fastboot --> fastboot flash boot boot.img or if it doesn't do anything fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
Reboot the device
Press continuously the volume down button to get in the recovery
Choose install zip from sdcard; install xxxxx_wlan_v3.zip
In CWM go to advance menu and do a dalvik cache wipe... (fist boot will take a minutes to 3 minutes longer because it will create a new dalvik cache)
Reboot the phone
Zram is enabled in default setting., to disable it delete this file --> /system/etc/init.d/00zraminstall
to enable it again delete this file --> /system/zraminstall (v3) or /system/zraminstall2 (v4)

I don't see files /system/etc/zram.sh and /system/etc/init.d/00zram, no zram device. I guess you push it in autoroot script in ramdisk and if device already rooted...
---------- Post added at 09:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:16 PM ----------
I've deleted /system/autorooted file and rebooted phone but no changes...
---------- Post added at 09:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:19 PM ----------
Could you upload that scripts?
Works great on my Xperia Mini!
As the above post, do not locate the files zram.
One thing I noticed is that using the kernel KRsH Rage or I get the warning for the latest update FW62 (I am in FW62), and using your do not have this problem, for this would be the last version?
Thank you!
Thanks will flash it and response

Creates RAM based block devices: /dev/zramX (X = 0, 1, ...). Pages written to these disks are compressed and stored in memory itself. These disks allow very fast I/O and compression provides good amounts of memory savings.

This kernel definitely looks promising.
Just flashed it and it is working good so far without any glitches.
Will give a feedback after I see how the battery life is doing.
Thanks for your contribution in the Xperia Lineup.
Best regards
Btw I am using a Xperia Mini Pro
Flashed my mini this moment,
no problems so far
keep up the good work
Flashed it and works great!
battery life is good i think. 2 hours in stand by and 1% drop.
5 hours display and wifi on and 30% yet remaining
but i have some problem with VPN which every time i try to connect via L2TP if display goes off, the phone will reset. but if i force screen been on (toching) it won't and connects successfully. don't know it's Kernel problem or not. but last kernel i used (KRsH) didn't have this problem.
Thanks in advance
I downloaded your kernel sources, /sbin/installzram.sh script just doesn't exist in ramdisk.

It could be a kernel problem, there is a some compiling warning using gcc 4.6.3 one of them is a tunneling protocol, I've patched it so it doesn't gives warning (not as much as before) I'll going to take another look than at the script

yeah, but i don't mean it.
when wifi signal is weak and i want to connect VPN using L2TP phone resets. without VPN in any signal strenght it's really good though.
I check it on Xperia Active - works faster than stock kernel.
But hangs from time to time when booting (50%/50%) on "SONY ERICSSON" appears.
May be it is because of new CPU frequency driver.
UPD: After few minutes of hour (don't know) the magnetic and orientation sensors are goes off until next reboot. It happend twice today.

Dual-Boot instructions and Notes
If you want to have another ROM as secondary ROM, follow these steps:
1.Make a nandroid backup of your existing ROM
2.wipe everything and install the other ROM
3.Boot the ROM and make customizations. Don’t forget to reflash SiyahKernel if the ROM flashes another kernel.
4.Use CWM Touch Recovery to clone your rom as secondary rom.
5.Restore nandroid backup
6.To boot from the secondary ROM, either press the HOME key or the VOLUME DOWN key when prompted.
Some notes about dualbooting:
■If you do not make any cloning you won’t be prompted to boot the second ROM.
■you may need to reflash this kernel after a nandroid restore if your nandroid backup is created with another kernel.
■you won’t be able to use mass storage mode for /sdcard in second rom because we have our data and cache partitions on /sdcard. only external sdcard will be mounted if you are using mass_storage mode. mtp should work fine for sdcard.
■once again, you won’t be able to flash any CWM flashable zip to second ROM.

Running really nicely so far, and it's actually greatly improved my scrolling, which was kind of so-so before.

My sound enhancement working perfectly. I am on Optomax rom. I know what your problem is. You might be on those rom which walkman with advanced sound mod. I tested both suave kernel and sardulseth kernel. Both cause sound enhancement force close. So with this kernel also doing the same. Only alliance kernel work with those walkman.

Just 1 small problem in the method. You are supposed to extract the audio.conf in system/vendor/etc of the sound mod zip. Not the audio.conf in the etc folder. Hope this makes it clear:laugh:
It would be great if ths is in OP.

Normally, yes it worked.
I am researching this problem and find it http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/37951
Maybe hardware , maybe kernel.
Firstly, i flashed kernel and sound is gone. I think kernel but researching maybe it's hardware.
I'll go service this Monday.
