Hi XDA-friends,
I have the ICS 4.0.3 and will update on stock 4.0.4 XWLPX.
Should I root my phone with Siyah kernel v4.1.4 or with CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_LPX-v5.6-CWM5 ??
Also I would like to know can I use with S2 the new Odin 3.07 or just Odin 1.85 ?
Thanks in advice
Siyah, because you will have more features.
And it doesn't matter which version of Odin will you use. Only important thing is that Odin should be for SII.
I personally use Siyah, mainly for the dual boot facility. However, as compared to other kernels like CF,dorimanx etc it is a little more power hungry. So if battery life is important to you, you might want to choose another kernel. Like the xda mantra goes, theres no best ROM/Kernel etc. try it out and see whats best for you based on what you want from it.
I would say Siyah which has more features .. And Siyah never disappointed nobody ! it's very easy to tweaks, and it run smooth !
Siyah is lot of feature...and you can dual boot jelly bean and ics..

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I will try then with siyah kernel.
But which Odin version should I use, the new Odin 3.07 or old Odin 1.85 ?
Thanks
I use the new odin for all my flash, all works without any problem !
Use odin3 1.85
Or Google
Which Odin is Compatible with SGS II
Please Hit Thanks || It won't Cost You

Do not root with cf-root! All 4.0.4 kernels have the mmc-superbrick-bug, and if you wipe from the recovery which comes with cf-root, you will get a hardbrick. Siyah is safe.

I would recommend you Siyah kernel. It is very customizable and very easy to set up with extweaks app :good:

Hey Spiralzz, you are very right! I have read about this bug too. Listen my phone details are as follows:
GT-I9100
Andriod version 4.0.4
Baseband version I9100XXLQ6
Kernel version I9100XWLPT
And I haven't done the rooting as yet. Now should I directly flash Siyah Kernel using ODIN or flash CWM recovery and then install from zip? Also which custom recovery and Siyah kernel version should I use for my phone? The Siyah kernel comes with a root right?
Thanks in advance!

You mean I should flash Siyah 4.1.5 and that will install the recovery along as well then I should flash a new kernel(Siyah v5.0.1) that supports latest roms right?

Just flash this

Download ODIN version and flash it .. ENJOY
Why would you wanna update to 4.0.4? stay in 4.0.3 and wait for the jelly bean update.
Or else flash jb leak.

No issues. I am not affected by the known issues such as tv-out, FM radio, etc. It's perfect for me.

So can I directly install it over Siyah kernel v5.0.1? I donot need to root it via CF root right?

Hello
I'm running cyanogenmod 9.0.0 and I want to dual boot with another from using siyah kernel but whenever I flah it it boots up shows the kernel logo and just stays black!

Well if you read and searched properly you'd know that dual booting doesn't work on ICS...
...and also, no ICS ROM or Kernel can be considered safe from Sudden Death Syndrome...

when you start flashing roms on your phone, you should be aware of what you are doing. how could you be so silly? under siyah kernel it is already said that dual boot is only for sammy JB 4.1.2 and CM10 and above.
note:the thanks i clicked for you was accidental!
Hello everyone one yes your right stupid of me!

So does it mean siyah still does not have support for any ROM above 4.2?
I'm currently using 4.2.2 NeatROM and I've just tried Siyah 1.8.6 - 1.9.1 and none of them works

I'm with stock rom 4.3 (GNA8) and Boeffla Kernel 5.3 beta5
I want to test UltimaROM v17.0 Diablos BETA. The Boeffla Kernel for this rom is "Samsung JB 4.4.x kernel" version right?
Yes, use this one

Thank you.
Should I first install the kernel or the rom? Because I have a kernel for 4.3 and will install a rom 4.4.
You need V6 of Andi's kernel. First install the ROM and let it boot. There were issues with the cam when using a custom kernel without opening the cam with stock kernel one time after boot >> open cam one time, see if it works and then reboot to recovery and flash boeffla kernel. Then you are done.

Do you mean install a stock kernel, install ultimarom and then install the boeffla kernel v6? If so, what stock kernel do you suggest?
http://boeffla.df-kunde.de/sgs3/boeffla-kernel/Series 6.x (JB 4.4.x)/6.0/
or beta
http://boeffla.df-kunde.de/sgs3/boeffla-kernel/Test_jb44/
Andi is Lord Boeffla's real first Name
Stock kernel is the standard kernel which is included in UltimaRom and will be installed when you flash the ROM . Just install the ROM and let it boot after finishing.

Right
Wasn't a good combination for now. Crashes and excessive heat
