Good morning to everybody.
I'm writing directly from Italy, so excuse me in advice for my bad English.
I installed Android-x86-4.2-devel (guess it's the last) on my Acer Aspire 5551G and "everything" works fine, exept the internet connection: it does not recognize wi-fi card and ethernet too. I just tried also some 4.0 rc2 versions, but i'm still getting in trouble. Just the one for ASUS Eee pc allow me to enable wi-fi, but it looks like there are no available connections. Is there a way to solve this problem?
Thank you
Dario

For now, no. Unless Huawei or 3rd party develop driver for it.
My E1550 now also collecting dust coz i'm using 101 most of the time rather than laptop.
If i understand, we need root access to add 3rd party driver? Or there uis no way to compile driver?
This would be quite interesting if it would work.
Would this also enable call/sms functionalities?
I have an AT&T Laptop Connect Dongle which does not work. I have been able to bluetooth tether using PAN. I would rather use adhoc, i haven't found a way yet.
I prefer Archos to improve the stabilities of his 2.2 firmware first before adding more "new" features.
3G dongles
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I was able to digg around, it seems that USB host mode (wich is already in Archos), __usbserial.ko__, and adeqaute parts of devfs rules, are only three really necessary things that are needed on any linux, for USB 3G dongles to get properly recognized (at least Huawei ones).
rest of the things regarding "dial-up" a 3G connection, are done with commands from ppp package (should be in froyo), can be done from shell (busysbox __should__ be sufficient) for a start.
usb_modeswitch package is needed also, but only for the modems that are USB composites with virtual CD-ROM and/or MMC card reader (like mine E1552) in order to switch them to a serial mode (because their are detected as mass-storage initialy). For a start, this can be overcomed by sending adequate AT command's to dongle, that disable dongle's virtual CD-ROM and/or MMC card reader, from some windows machine prior to experimenting with dongle on linux/archos (setting is saved on dongle - you only need to do it once).
Since I still don't have my A101 (should receive it beggining of 2011), can someone tell me from kernel .config file is USB serial support compiled in archos kernel, and if not can we compile it as a additional module (like archos unionfs/ntfs modules is see in other thread) ?
Hi all,
i've yesterday rooted my Archos 10.1 with the howto from here and all works fine.
Today i have tested a connection with Droidexplorer, but DE can't find my device.
USB debugging is enabled and USB drivers from archos website are installed.
Can anybody access his device with droid explorer? If yes, can you share your settings with us?
Thanks in advance
trilu
Hi,
I tried it with my Archos 32 and the same happens to me. Installed the usb drivers supplied by Archos.
I looked a bit and this will get you going: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7672554&postcount=23
The app adbWireless will help you, too!
Does anyone knows how to tell to the honeycomb to see also the adhoc wifi on the network instead of filtering them out ?
I'd like to share my wired adhoc connection of my notebook with my Archos and surfing in "stereo" mode
Thank you in advance.

update
I've found a file twlan.ini and I've changed the WiFiAdhoc = 0 to WiFiAdhoc = 1.
But still the same problem. Archos did not connect to adhoc wlan.
I've tried to googling this but without success.
Do sameone has successfully connected with a "adhoc" network with Archos 101 g9 ? I mean, Archos is the client to connect to a pc in thether mode.
bye
Not currently possible to tether HC or ICS G9 to adhoc wifi ap.
After many days of researching there is no current solution to tethering a G9 to a adhoc wifi connection be it HC or ICS. My quest has failed.
The only hope seems to be if someone can modify the archos g9 ICS version of /system/bin/wpa_supplicant (seems to be hardware dependent) file similar to what other developers have done for other devices such as the Xoom, Adam and Prime (I've already tried the wpa_supplicant files that are used with these devices, no joy). I don't think that's going to be likely due to the relatively small takeup of the G9. I've also tried solutions based on minipulating the \data\misc\wifi\wpa_supplicant.conf file as well. I'm giving up finding a solution on the G9 side of the equation and will probably un-root it back to factory default. I'm also thinking of selling off my archos g9 101 hdd turbo and buying a windows 7/8 tablet but thats another story.
I've been trying to tether my G9 to my Windows Mobile 6.5 smart phone via HTC Wifi Router. I've scoured the web, read numerous articles, tried all sorts of procedures to no avail. Its time to upgrade the phone OS with something that will operate in Infrastructure wifi AP mode. I'm going to try out the WinMo android dual boot solution posted at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=938669. I'll report back my findings if anyone is interested.
I've attached the wpa_supplicant file thats in my ICS G9. Its a version 0.8 apparently.
Good luck if you are still searching.

I've your firmware 4.0.4 rooted, no support for ad-hoc in the wpa_supplicant
and the old 3.2.80 didn't had too
there is no way to have ad-hoc support for archos until now
AdHoc doesn't work for me on my phone either but with the CyanogenMod7 ROM I use on my phone, tethering works wirelessely!
It just works! I don't need any apps I just toto
Settings, Wireless and Ntwks, WiFi Tethering.
It works.
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
I confirm that AdHoc does not work on the tablet (like connectify or through ubuntu). I have a lg optimus one with cyanogen and AdHoc works perfectly. with this tablet I have tried tons of market applications to run AdHoc's wifi, but at best, they will break down the wifi... ciao
Finally got it tethered to my HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium) !

After almost giving up trying to find a solution to tethering my G9 101 HDD ICS to my WinMo 6.5 phone (only supports Adhoc mode) I decided to try out running Android on my HTC Rhodium (Touch Pro 2) using the XDAndroid (many thanks for your efforts, some beer money coming your way ) stuff over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1. Its a dual boot solution allowing me to switch back to my trusty faithful WinMo 6.5 EnergyROM. Its a doddle to setup.
I'm now able to tether my G9 to the Android version running on my phone using the built in WiFi Hot Spot function (Infrastructure Access Point in Open Mode) in Froyo. Happy happy days.
Hello everyone. My name is Levi. I have an LG Connect 4G through MetroPCS. I am running a less well known operating system of SolusOS 1.2 Stable. I cannot seem to connect my phone. My OS doesn't even see it. It will see it if I choose USB tether for internet connection, but doesn't show for files or as a drive. Any help please would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
