[GENERAL] CyanogenMod 10.1 [NIGHTLY] by OldDroid General Disscussion - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Well I saw a lot of posts, queries & questions in the Dev Thread (I often have many ).. which were simply SPAM and were deleted..
But these are real problems with probably simple solutions...
So felt like creating a general discussion thread for this Awesome ROM by OldDroid...
Hope this would help solving our minor non-dev issues...
The Dev Thread here
N ya..If I have helped you anyway, Thanking me wouldn't cost you anything....

Installed it last night, so far everything works, just battery worries me a bit, not sure if it hold a whole day...
Usage since this morning
https://www.dropbox.com/s/8z0x35a5720zva1/2013-01-28 14.21.46.png
I only listened to music, no wifi, no 3g, auto brightness

It will last long. Try to set up the lowest brightness level. Im using almost the same like you. about 1 h of music a day, sometimes when needed 2G/3G for a bit. It drains fast from 100% to 60-50% and than it last normally long. I charge my battery for 1-1,5 day. Is all right.

hey, thanks for starting the tread, I couldn't post in the dev theme, since I'm a new member.
Installed it last week and it's far from dissapointing, but obviously not flawless...but what OS is?
So far:
- battery drains faster than usual, but you're right, falls down fast, but doesn't drain completelly for a while, just like the level in my car
- a minor bug regarding the audio jack: of you're already playing music when plugging the headphones it goes on OK, if you pull it out it will pause, which is also OK, but if you start the music again it won't play on the rear speaker, but on the front (telephone) speaker...
How did you guys pimp it up to make the battery last longer and the UI smoother?

In RC0 release, there's no lockscreen, my home button can't be used.
Now i'm back to previous release...
I really love this rom but the latest release dissappoint me...

SMSC Issue
Hi! I've installed this ROM like 3 or 4 times last week, but yesterday's install went a little wrong: I have the SMSC Issue, so can't send SMS.
Alredy tried the solutions all around the web that I found, like restarting in a lot of situations, modificiation or addition of numbers or hexadecimal codes from the "hidden" menu (dialing *#*#4636#*#*, etc.), taking my sim into another android phone or any non-android phone to restore the setting, again restarting a lot, reinstalling this ROM (both nightly and RC0). Still can't send SMS.
So, after a lot of research and experiences, I found out that the issue is not related to my SIM Card (because the numbers are OK and they don't show errors, but the correct info .Quadruple checked). It is (I believe) related with this ROM in both releases. I know that because I installed Lewa OS and everything works fine. I didn´t have to check nothing because It just worked fine. I can send SMS in other ROMS but not in this one anymore.
Maybe It's something in the system files, something in RILs that doesn't read the info (the info It's there, not erased), any corrupted APK, maaaaybe a file (or files) in the SD card that was written and since I didn't deleted anything, It's corrupting.
At the moment of writing this post, I installed Wayland_Ace's ROM, and I still can´t send SMS. Then installed LewaOS again and I CAN send SMS again.
What could this problem be?

To install Gapps:
Put Gapps on thee root of your SD (ie not in a folder)
Boot into CWM
Check to make sure that /system, /data, / sdcard are mounted (if not, mount them)
Choose zip from sd
Select the gapps package
Flash it
Check to make sure that /system, /data, /sdcard are mounted (if not, mount them)
Reboot
Note, Google Maps, Gmail, etc. are not included in the slim Gapps built for the Ace, you have to manually install it from the Play Store (and push it to /system/app if you want)

If you already have the basic gapps package installed in your ROM, then installing Google Maps is not a big deal. Just download it from the Play Store!

Great ROM, poor performance
I've installed this ROM and it's great to see that our old ACE can stay updated with the most recent Android version. Therefore, a big thanks to developer effort.
However, I'm facing several performance problems on the phone. Almost any action on it takes up to 3 seconds to complete and typing is absolutely painful, with a lot of lags. Also, FC and reboots are constant. Do you have any tips to improve performance? I've also installed Link2SD to get more space using an ext2 partition, I'm not sure whether this relates with any performance issues.
Thanks!

Hi everyone, I just want to ask if is there any way to turn the volume warning off? When I want to listen to music it's kind of annoying.

Thanks, but it happens every time i restart the phone. I think I have to get used to it.
BTW: I downloaded the latest nightly build. The only changes I've seen so far are opening the quick settings using 2 fingers, and transparent notification panel. (and some Play Store issues) Have you guys notice any other changes so far?

about crt-animation
someones could make a patch for enable crt-animation in last relese 05-02-2013 please?
send from my ace

Other change I noticed is the Trebuchet settings are not in settings but on homescreen after pressing menu button and other ringtones for alarm and such. Google play woirks flawlessly for me btw and everything else pretty much too. Never had any fc's or audio problems as well. Battery is not bad. It can last a day without problems. No tweaks or scripts. I only use the TW5 launcher (personal prefference) and the s2e flashable zip for cm10.1. Everything works like a charm. Thanks olddroid

Thank you for this post.
I will profit it to put a problem that I've since Honeycomb and continuous with ICS.
I've created a script to have the music in media library from sdcard2, that script was in init.d folder.
Since then I' m getting the error message:
"android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. please try again."
Even after deleting the script I get this error every time that tablet starts.
I thought that with ICS upgrade this get fixed, but no, I still have the problem.
I'm sorry in advance if this is wrong topic to post this, it's just that I need 10 posts to create threads and post replys in other topics and I don't wanna just bluntly spam in order to ask one questions.
I have a problem rooting my tablet :
Model number : Sony Tablet S
Android version : 4.0.3
Kernel version : 2.6.39.4 [email protected] #1
Build number : TISU0017700
I've followed this rooting guide and also used Automated ADB Driver Installer for Sony Tablet S and P.
Seems like everythings working :

But I'm getting this problem at the very start of rooting with permissions, I tried old and updated rooting tools several times, but I constantly get this one error.
In any case, I hope this problem can be solved and I have everything right. ( Was trying to root a device first time ) x_x

"Android version: 4.0.3" is the problem. To the best of my knowledge, at this time, a tablet that has already been updated to Android 4.0.3 cannot be rooted, nor can it be downgraded to a version of Android that can be rooted. You will need to wait until an exploit is discovered/created.

Try this,
Reboot into recovery goto Advanced then select Clear Dalvik Cache
If that still didn't do it, then you must reflash you Prerooted ICS,
Edit:
Do you still have some sort of file changed?,
if thats the case then i want to know which app contains the error you could try to reinstall the system app by changing its permissions etc,
with Romtoolbox for example. i will make backup try to upload the file you replace it wil the old one reinstall and then there should be a problem no more,
Also make shure you don't have any files left on you tablet wich contains changes,

In recovery mode I don't have "advanced" option.
Only 1. reboot, 2. update from zip and 3. factory reset.
edit: SOLVED
In Setting / applications / All
I clear data for program "Media Storage" and the error message stopped!

Doesn't come out of sleep
Several times a week, the tablet won't come out of sleep. Pressing the power button does nothing and I have to resort to using the reset button on the right side of the tablet. This started happening after ICS update.
Anybody else have this problem? Solutions?
yea i had that problem with HC, but maybe like 3 times since ive bought device. All i did was plug into pc and it turned on....has not happened in ics update, but it probably will.
Hey,
Just one question
Can we flash ICS by placing the zip in pendrive and connecting it to our Tablet?
Will the AIO tool find the zip?
Thanks
Nope, maby it can be possible but the recovery is not made to search in
external devices, only External SDCard inserted in the normal way,
Because if so you could simply search your PC within recovery
I know it can be used for a bootable image for PC but this won't work on Android (For now)
Who knows if some dev will change Recovery, and make it so, that he can find other devices as well.
I am new to all this. I successfully rooted the tablet without using AiO tool. But i have no idea where to proceed next. Can you dirext me to the appropriate forum/topic/post that can help me move forward.

Hello all,
Since ICS update, battery behaviour is very weird, it is dischargind very quickly, also when standby. It last one day and a hal whereas before it lasted at least 4 or 5 days... Am I the only one concerned by that problem ? Do you think it could be caused by something else than ICS update ?
Thank you all in advance...

Its most likely that you have some sort of app installed that drains your battery,
Do you use a Task killer?, that kills automatic?
Because this can cause battery drain aswell, since android has his own way of killing his apps there is no need to kill apps by an 3th-party appkiller.
You can check in your app settings, within running apps, which apps currently are
running, like a music player of movie player.
Also Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Auto Sync and GPS can use allot of energie.
i'm not shure how long my tablet runs if its in standby, but it is longer then yours.
No task killer running, I do that manually...
But I've uninstalled chrome beta and since last charge, 14 hours ago, tablet has lost 11%...
Kind of bizarre...

[SOLVED] SGS2 Multiple Issues [CM9.0.0]

What I did:
1. Formatted (Wiped) the entire phone, Internal SD card included. (Just take a backup of your files on your pc, you can use an app, I chose to copy-paste everything on to my laptop.)
2. Downloaded and flashed the stock Samsung ICS rom from here using Odin. Just follow the instructions, it's pretty simple.
3. Rooted my phone using the instructions here.
4. Downloaded CM9 from get.cm and flashed that and a signed copy of GApps I had using CWM.
NOTE: You will lose all the data you haven't backed up, yes including photos, videos and everything else that's stored on your internal SD card.
1. SMS Messages & Call Logs: In my case I'd synced my contacts with gmail so they got re-downloaded. I chose not to backup anything else so everything's gone. You can use these apps to backup your sms messages and call logs.
2. Preferences / Settings: You'll have to re-do it all.
3. Apps: Even though the convenience of the 'App+Data Restore' is very tempting, don't. Just don't restore your apps using Titanium Backup. Re-install all of them from the market. Yes, it takes a while but it's worth the trouble.
Essentially what I got after my experiment was a brand new - old phone. I re-installed only what I needed and restored only those files which I wanted on my phone. Everything else is on my laptop. It took around half a day to download, flash and install everything but like I said it worked like a charm.
I'm updating my old post here in case someone is facing similar problems. Hope it helps!
ORIGINAL POST BELOW
Problem: Push Delay
Mostly it's my Whatsapp messages which are delayed. A 15-20min delay I'm fine with but here they're getting delayed by hours, sometimes as much as 6 hours. It also happens with Instagram notifications, which sometimes just don't appear.
Solution: Ended up being a network issue. In case of Vodafone India, get in touch with them on twitter [@VodafoneIN], it's the best way to get a quick response. They sent some executives to my house and got the signal strength tested, not sure what they did after but now there's a significant difference in my network.
Problem: No Twitter Notifications
Whatever client I use for twitter, I just don't get any notifications. I've currently switched to the official app and selected the needed options in both Accounts & Sync and the twitter app. Still no notifications - when I open the app it shows that I have new mentions but it doesn't push them to the notification bar.
Solution: Again, not sure why but whenever I have Show Notification Count checked the twitter notifications don't show up. Unchecked it and it's working fine. (Settings > System > Status Bar > Show Notification Count)
Problem: Freezing & Battery
This happens randomly, mostly when I click on an option in an app (Eg: click on the camera in instagram.) The phone freezes for a few seconds and shuts down. All this happens within 1 minute and the phone instantly heats up, not the normal heating but a lot more. When I restart the phone, no matter how much battery there was earlier, it shows less than 5% and the phone shuts off again. Sometimes I wait for around 10 minutes and restart it again and the battery level is back up (around 10% less than before) and the Battery Usage in Settings shows a gap.
Solution: Got a new battery. Every battery related issue is now solved.
Problem: Data Services Hang
If I wake the phone after a few hours on standby, the data service hangs up. It shows the 'H' or '3G' in the notification bar but it's not active. I have to go to settings and disable / enable for it to start working.
Solution: Flashed a new modem, tried a couple till the problem stopped. Thanks a lot for the screenshot, theunderling.
Problem: Battery Drains
The battery level is inconsistent. When the phone is in standby for a few hours, the battery drains more than it shows. Sometimes it shows as 20% - 30% but drains within half an hour.
Solution: Again, the new battery.
Problem: Network Drop
Since updating to 9.0.0 this happens rarely but the network drops completely for a minute and then comes back on. It started with RC2 and happend every time I tried to place a call but now it happens randomly, usually a little before the phone freezes.
Solution: Get a new modem. Look up the screenshot in theunderling's post below, that's where you want to start.
I used CWM to flash the ROM and before I did, I formatted the system, data & cache and wiped the Dalvik Cache & battery stats. I was told earlier that the problem was with my Kernel and I downloaded and flashed another one from here but that didn't make any difference. Please help me out! My phone is becoming impossible to use now!

What kernel are you using?
Meanwhile, you can follow the following instructions before answering my question:
- wipe cache partition
- wipe dalvik cache
- fix permissions.
- reboot your device.
- update your apps in Google playstore
If freezing is still persistent, you may have another kernel (please only do this after answering my first question and you get a response regarding that.

Rooted: Yes
ROM: CM9.0.0
Baseband Version: XXLPQ
Kernel Version: 3.0.32 (Stock CM9.0.0)
Mods, Scripts, Themes: None
Changed DPI: No
GApps: gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
When I first flashed CM9 RC2, I had flashed an insecure XXLPQ kernel from here. When I updated to CM9.0.0, I used Chainfire's Triangle Away but my phone still had issues, so I re-flashed the ROM after formatting the system, data & cache and wiping the Dalvik Cache & battery stats.
I went a step further and even formatted my internal SDCard in case that helped. Also, this time I didn't restore my apps from Titanium, I re-installed all of them from the market.
Since then the random rebooting has happened only once (it's been 36 hours) but the other problems are still present. Hope I've covered everything...

I installed the AOKP exactly as per instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1874920
No gapps are seen as they are not packed with the ROM. The OP suggested installing gapps from http://www.modaco.com/topic/355903-devrom2810-cyanogenmod-10-android-412/ for fixing Network Location
Network Location: For working network location you have to flash latest gapps provided by KonstaT from here http://www.modaco.com/topic/355903-d...0-android-412/ If it does not work first, than reboot and/or reconfigure weather settings in 'ROM Control' settings. You should be able to have weather on your lockscreen based on your actual position.

Flashing the above gapps did not work for me. I have never (or may be 1-2 times, that I don't recollect of) flashed gapps separately. Can someone guide me to doing this. JFYI, I have an ext partition too, I have tried flashing gapps without flashing any a2sd too.

No gapps are seen as they are not packed with the ROM. The OP suggested installing gapps from http://www.modaco.com/topic/355903-devrom2810-cyanogenmod-10-android-412/ for fixing Network Location

Turns out it may be the CWM6 that is buggy or the isn't compatible. Dowgraded back to the good old CWM5 and gapps flash great so do the scripts :good: :victory:
Anyone having mediascan issue? I have been having this with all the jellaxy builds (CM10 and AOKP). No matter what I do most of my pictures never show up in the gallery. Apollo won't detect my music. I have tried media scan, rescan and several other apps, but no use. Pics I take from camera or screenshots I take do show up though in the gallery. But generally they too disappear on reboot.

No problems like that here. All pics showing up (using QuickPic). Apollo is also working fine for me.
I'm running the latest version of the rom (Build 5). The only issue I've found so far is battery life that isn't so good no matter what scripts or tweaks I use :/
I had Jellaxy CM10 before this one and did't have media scan issues either.
Try re-flashing the rom following instructions properly and you could also try using a different sd card.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes it seems to be working for almost all the people here, though google reveals many similar cases on ICS and JB. I have reflashed the ROM multiple times. Also faced this issue in almost all the Jellaxy CM10 builds (I have tried them all ) too. Chaging the SD card? You think that will help? Anyway everything else that I could think of I have tired, will give it a shot as soon as I get my hands on some SD card.

I see. Well, I'm not sure changing the SD card is the answer, but if I were facing this issue as well, I'd certain try it.

I faced the same problem a lot of times, and still havent found a good fix for it. the scan usually works fine on a fresh install. I do have a workaround though. For pics use quickpic. For music, you can use poweramp, andless or another player with its own scanner.
However, if you have the patience, install mixzing player. reboot your phone. then open mixzing first. go into folders, then the folder where you store your music, then wait. The names of the songs should change from filenames to the id3 information. Repeat for each folder, scrolling so that the info appears for each track; all while not actually playing anything. Now open your stock player, the tracks should have appeared. If they haven't, force stop the media scanner and try again.
I want to install this on my Ace...but i must do the wipe data??
I hope you plan on keeping this alive as I prefer it over other cm10s. Better ram management and just plain fast.

Another one, just in case
What are the chances of making this available for the i9305? I know the partition and radio are different. However, if the partition part was adapted and the radio was removed from ultima rom (i.e. old radio remains on device), would this be doable?
I hate how my i9300 constantly is at almost full ram, wanna get the 2GB version. But the Dev support is minimal (at best)
If someone bought me one I'd do one for sure, but I can't afford one.
And unused RAM is wasted. Android uses as much RAM as possible on purpose. If you had enough apps on the LTE phone it would also try to run as much RAM as possible.

now 6.0 updat is coming ,can i change it by using 4.2 camera & gallery APP + AOSP lockscreen?
Many thanks!
Unfortunately not it's a common problem with the 4.2 galley at the moment. You should install the stock camera or Note II to change it

AROMA crashes
I haven't been able to get through the installer without my phone crashing.
First time coming from another rom, I tried to install UltimaROM 5.1. I performed a wipe data/factory reset and install zip from internal sd. Pick ultra wipe, siyah kernel etc and on the last step I press "Next>" and the phone crashes. I pull out the battery and reboot system, and voila UltimaROM is installed.
Second time I want to install UltimaROM 6.0. Perform wipe data/factory reset, and at the bloatware removal screen I scroll down only to cause a crash once again. I repeat the battery removal process go into the installer again, and it crashes again when I untick the Samsung Apps option. Third time it gets stuck at the last step again, and after I unplug the battery for the last time I have v6 installed.
Why did I have to go through all this trouble. Was I doing something wrong?
Try this!

With my experience, DO NOT WIPE ANYTHING in Ultima Aroma installer.
So how can i install ULTIMA if i came frome another rom? It's simple, just wipe data / cache / dalvic in Recovery, otherwise use a wipe script such as "Revolution rom super wipe script" in Recovery.
Hope that can help. :fingers-crossed:

And i aldo stucked during the istallation, or stucked when i chose the app / mod / theme in aroma(quit often in V5),so be paitient, finally it will work.
(how to prevent that happen efficiently? i always make my self tick the checkboxes only once druing the installation )
Well I've updated to the latest AROMA installer version and I wipe all the time using the installer. I even have an AROMA installer just for wiping.
What version of CWM are you using?
A bit of help with the AOSP messaging again. I love the way it looks and don't really like Samsungs messaging app because the text is rather large and not as smooth looking.
I have went into Google contacts on the website and changed the number of a friend of mine it looks similar to this +14045555555 is this the correct formatting? I did it that way because one of my contacts was set up that way and her messages would go into a thread, but others that I changed would still just pop up as new threads. Is there anything else that is required of me after I change the numbers?

Ok for me it's like this:
+447123456789
+44 = country code
07123456789 = phone number
Just strip out the leading 0 and put it on the country code
I want to test both the S3 and Note2 cameras side by side but I don't like to try to decompile, change package name and then recompile the app. So is there another way to do it (since I assume that they have same package name)? Or can someone tell me which they prefer from their own experience.

Messages are now threading!!!! I had set my contacts up the way of the working one while I awaited your response and went ahead and reflashed and my messages are threading. Thank you!!!!!
Also, is there anyway to make the icons smaller? I guess change the resolution is what i'm asking.
EDIT: I figured it out, I figured that post in the other thread about DPI must have been something about that. So I googled and came up with how to change the DPI and changed it to 240 and it's perfect. I will definitely tell about your rom.
THANKS!
I have been using ur rom for ages now never changed, your rom is awesome man. However, I flashed the latest version (v6.0) and for some reason it does not allow me to view the caller id even though I have them in my contacts which is a big problem for me. Did i do something wrong or is this a known issue.

Hi!
First of all I gotta say thank you for an amazing rom. I've been using 5.1 for about a week and have'nt encounterd any bugs at all. However today I downloaded the 6.0 and experienced a few problems. While I was flashing 6.0 aroma launcher freezed at about 95% so I had to pull the battery and redo it again. 2nd time it worked. Everything in the rom seems to work just as weel as in 5.1 accept for the video player that FC everytime I try to watch a video clip. Tried rebooting etc. Does'nt help.
Anyways great job with the rom!

Yes, I've got a fix for that already. I'm just holding out to see if this contacts problem is a ROM issue or not. I'm thinking it isn't and must be something else but I want to make sure so I can fix all three in one patch. But there is a solution for it, don't worry

[Q] Cyanogen sync with gmail address book, and Swype

Hello all,
I didn't find a Cyanogen specific forum so I'm posting here.
The last stock update to my Galaxy SII somewhat messed it up, it started running boiling hot, drining the battery without showing any CPU or anything. So today I installed the stable CyanogenMod (10.1.3) and so far it doesn't have this problem.
Two important questions:
- how do I get my gmail address book inside the phone ? Under Settings/Accounts I only see CyanogenMod, and trying to add one gives me Corporate (Exchange), CyanogenMod (again) and Email.
- how do I get Swype ? It's not available from the Language&Input settings.
- how do I view the external SD card from the file manager ? It only shows the internal storage.
OK, that was 3. Thanks

Did you also install the gapps package when installing CyanogenMod? The Google Account is only available when you install gapps.
CyanogenMod doesn't come with Google Apps and accound and other Googly stuff preinstalled, due to licencing issues. You have to flash gapps separately in recovery, after installing CyanogenMod. You can read more about gapps and download them here.

Swype is available here on Play Store. There is also a free version, you can find it on Play Store as well.
Note that to be able to install apps from Play Store, you have to install the gapps package first.

Go to File manager - Settings - General Settings, and under Access Mode select Root Access Mode. Press allow on the dialog that pops up, and then go back to the directory listing in File Manager. On the top of the app you will see the path which you are currently viewing. Click on the / and you will get to the root directory of your phone, where you can find a folder called externalSD or something similar. That is your external SD card.
Hope this helps.

That solves it, but requiring root just to access sdcard files is a bit dangerous if it can access any system files as well...

Well, root access is not required to access the external storage card, but you have to enable root access to be able to go to other directories than internal SD card in the CyanogenMod File Manager. It is a bad design decision, though.
You may install other file manager apps from the Play Store, lots of them have the option to access external SD card without root. I don't have a phone with internal AND an external storage, so I can't test it, but I believe Clean File Manager will do the job fine, at least based on its Play Store description. You could also try Astro File Manager or ES File Explorer, these are one of the most popular file managers on Android.
Thank you. I used "OI file manager" and it worked fine.
I have a few other questions as I discover Cyanogen if you don't mind:
- it took me a while to get the FM radio working again, thanks to Spirit UL
- using the default Apollo music player, I don't see how I can 'Play all'. I can queue a song, an album or an artist. But I don't see how I can randomly play everything. The menu button hardly ever seems to do anything.

This may be because you are using CyanogenMod 10.1. Apollo was just beginning when CM 10.1 was released, so the option to Shuffle All may not be there. I've got CyanogenMod 10.2 on my phone and CyanogenMod 11 on my tablet and I've got the option to Shuffle All present when I press the overflow menu button on the starting screen of Apollo. See the picture:

If you really don't have the option there, you have a few options:
Install a newer version of Apollo from this thread.
Install a newer version of CyanogenMod, which will include the newer Apollo. CM 11 is the latest and greatest, and a lot has improved from CM 10.1. Here is the official thread for your device. Really, you should try it.
Install another music player. I'm using NexMusic and I'm very happy.
By the way, when you reply to someone, then if you quote his post, he can get a notification that you quoted the post and find out about your new reply. Otherwise it's a small probability that he'll notice there is a new post in the thread. I saw your reply by chance, when I was searching for another thread I posted in. You have the Samsung Galaxy S II GT-i9100, right? I sent you the link for CM 11 for that device in the previous post. 10.1.3 was the last release marked as stable, but don't let that fool you. I'm using nightlies on my tablet and they are running without a problem. On an popular older device, like the S II, the stability bugs have been fixed during the long development period, and now it is running nearly without problems. Yesterday they even released a M3 Snapshot build, so there should really be no major problems and almost no minor problems, for sure stable enough for daily usage. Still, I'd recommend you to look at your device's thread and see if someone reported some major problem or not.

That's good to know. I'll try nightly then.
I tried NexMusic and it's nice. A related question is that I have headphones with a 'play/pause' button and when I hold the button it brings up Google voice input. I'd rather have a 'skip to next song' function. Looked at some hardware button threads but did not see a direct solution in the settings. I installed ButtonRemapper but I also don't see distinctions for long presses there.
