What is the best nightly to use for CM 7? There are 9 now and I am running 4...
Any thoughts?
7 was best in my experience.
Well, it seems 8 and maybe 7 have wifi connectivity issues, and nightly 9 has calling issues (both directions are messed up, outgoing and incoming).
If you find a nightly that works, stick with it until there is a new version that fixes something you desperately need, otherwise you might end up worse on a new nightly than you were before on an old nightly.

looks like I will be sticking with #4 then! thanks for your input. on #4 everything seems to be working fine... As far as I know...
idk i ran wifi all night last night last night on 7 partly to kill my batt for a recondition and partly to test the wifi issues i saw reported in the thread. i never had a disconnect once and had no issues letting the phone sleep for over an hour and picked right back up surfing as soon as i unlocked the screen. i couldn't seem to reproduce the wifi issues people were experiencing. also i've updated consecutive with every nightly until 9. once i realized calls were f'd up i went back to 7. 8 seemed to be worse on battery however i'm not comfortable blaming the nightly as i never conditioned and let it settle.
For me the only one that had issues was 9, I'm on 8 now and don't have any issues. There seem to be some people that have Wi-Fi issues on 7 and 8 but I have not. If 4 is working stay there and just read when the next one comes and see I'd there are major issues.

Hmmm...
It looks like I will give 8 a try! lets see what happens! BTW Wicked good article on helping us noobs out! I liked it. lol
8 is great, especially battery wise. Though the call issue is still there (the mute/unmute one). Some running the same nightly don't have it though...
Be sure to flash gapps after 8.. Mine didn't stick around after updating to it.
Also, rom manager (premium maybe) has the option to send notification when there is a new nightly.
Running 8 and NO issues. Best nightly IMHO

On #8 and no issues at the moment! Runs great!
Currently running 8...tried 7, 8 and 9.
Both 7 and 8 seemed to work ok wifi and all just shows roaming all the time, international roam and have to use wifi for data. Also get the bug of incoming callers not hearing me well...outgoing seem fine though.
9 actually connected to Edge and could use data, but no calling in or out.
I'm sticking with 8 right now. I haven't had any issues with it so far and I flashed it when it was released.
#8 didn't run any videos for me which I found annoying as hell! Also it seemed to break down over time for me. It started out fine and over time things stopped working and it became glitchy I didn't have that problem to I moved up to 8 though. I actually ended up leaving CM7 all together. I found it not stable enough to do normal everyday stuff on.

anyone tried nightly 10 or 11? i want to know if i should update or stick with 8 for now
Stick with 8 for now. The rest still suffer from the same call issue.

Be weary of new nightlies--the vibrant is still pretty experimental with CM7. It is not nearly as stable as the N1 nightlies tend to be.
Hi all,
Has anyone found any GB ROMs with working GPS? I was contemplating doing the hardware GPS fix for the vibrant, but I've been wondering if that would be enough to get the GPS working on GB ROMs. I sound like a total noob, I know, but any help here would be greatly appreciated. Froyo ROMs are great on the Vibrant but I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I think most of them are nearing the end of their development. Thanks everyone.

Well the hardware doesn't seem to be the problem. It is the lack of GPS files from a leak. With froyo we had a leak very early on so this was never a problem.
Yesterday devs found a leak (on samfirmware) for the galaxy s 4g (GPS chip identical to vibrant) that helped them to create a functioning GPS on gingerbread oon our phone.
You can switch to any JVB rom and flash the GPS fix and follow instructions from there to have a a functional gingerbread rom. There are a few problems, like that you can't turn the GPS off and on and it still work. You have to reboot to get it to lock on again. Also some people were reporting that their compass was switched around. But you and I can probably assume that that will be fixed in the near future. Hope I could help

Theres a fix in the works from birgertime on the development board. Only for JVP roms though it looks like.

I believe it's still in the work. Hopefully soon.
If you can't live without GPS, then don't switch over to a 2.3 base yet.

Hi,
the ROM indeed great, but I have a problem with the GPS.
it works for me only the first time after a reboot.
the 2nd, 3rd attempt etc. dont lock.
I do not know if I have to change anything in the LBS conf, and I cannot reply in the development forum cause I am new.
anyone had a similar problem?

You don't need to change anything. Most of these gingerbread ROMs that have GPS working mention the fact there is a bug. The GPS works, but you can't get it to work again without rebooting if you turn it off.

Hi,
I understand I have the keep the GPS always turned (at least the option marked as on)
my problem is with my Sat Nav app.
it locks fast for the first time, but doesn't anymore after I close the app and start it again (even after a few minutes).
On the revolution rom which I like I can't get a gps lock at all no matter reboots or anything

Hi everyone I have been using a handful of different roms and I can't find a single one that has GPS working.
Am I doing something wrong?
I tried AOKP glitched milestone 6 w/devil and GPS does not work, tried THS build 15, and a couple JB roms.
I must be doing something wrong here since I cant get GPS working perfectly on any of them.
Sometimes it will kick in after ive been driving for like 10 minutes and then go away when I really need it. WTF is going on here?
I'll go back to GB if I have to. Anyone have any tips or advice on what I can do to get some solid GPS performance here?
Thank you so much!
Lastly, I've been trying to find a mirror for AOKP Milestone 6 Standard (without devil) but the links on the AOKP site are all dead. Anyone? ty!
Try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5lY2xpcHNpbS5ncHNzdGF0dXMyIl0. and see if it helps. When I was having GPS issues (on 2.2 stock) this helped me to get a lock. However, I will say since I went to 2.3 and then AOKP M6 I've had no trouble with GPS, so your mileage may vary. Have you always had problems with GPS, or only since you've been trying custom roms?

It seems that every fassy has its own little quirks with each custom rom
I've used a few Jelly Bean ROMs since switching to Straight Talk last night on my unlocked Note. Everything works fine on Straight Talk except GPS. Just can't seem to get a signal no matter what I do.
Are there any non-stock ROM's (preferably JB) that GPS works 100%?
Thanks!
I have tried almost all the roms...And use gps daily...The worst I seen is its lock time connecting...but it eventually works..also a gps fix I seen somewhere.Plus a Gps app that helps fix connection gime to satellites
But the best fix is to change out you cong files to a better region...
And you can also save google maps for OFFLINE so you can use it????
Just save the files..and open it up when needed!
CM10 nightlies lock on pretty quickly and repeatedly. May want to give them a try.

The above app has a feature that will reset the aGPS data and download new data as well. Works extremely well when traveling overseas or in a new area.
Trying CM10 now (latest build)...gotta get this GPS working...other than this the Note and Straight Talk has been awesome!

I have no problems with GPS, been using Dagr8's ROMs for a while, King Kang, currently using the AOKP JB B5.
I found this for saving offline maps..hope this helps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412755
Well I installed Cryagen Nightly CM10 (version released today) and still no GPS...tried King Kang and AOKP with the same results...even been outside fir a while with still nothing.
Download the app for the play store in my first post. It will give you an option to download a-GPS data. Once the note has that lock on is about 5 seconds.
Tried this and still doesn't work. I'll be calling Straight Talk tomorrow if no one has any more suggestions!
Thanks!

why not connect to wifi so its faster at home or what not..Then just save the maps for offline use? ..for now anyways till you find a more stable connection..least it will help if you need to get somewhere..the maps you can save are huge...

TO Kinz1980:
Have you actually tried to go out and about with the GPS or are you just sitting inside trying to get it to work? Also, have you tried different ROM's and what not? Read below to see my (possible) fix and current experiences.
Well, while on the phone with Straight Talk to see what the issue COULD be I was standing outside with them on the phone and all of a sudden my GPS started working. Maybe I wasn't thorough enough in my own testing (actually walked out to the street today...previously I was just on my porch)?
I tested it a few times with closing the app, restarting it...locks on to my position damn quick and is very accurate...to a degree (see below). Also my phone died this morning so maybe the battery hitting 0 then recharging or something did it, I don't know for sure.
All I know is that its working (using CM10 nightly build) with Google Navigator for the most part. I will use it later today IRL when I've got to go to a friends house then update once I know its actually WORKING turn-by-turn.
I know when I was outside today it was a tad slow in updating my position (walked about 100ft up the street a few times and it was very slow to notice the change in location/direction or didn't change at all on some occasions) and a couple times the GPS signal would drop for a few seconds, etc. So like I said, I'm going to do more thorough testing here in a bit and update with my final results.
All I do know is that it is at least WORKING...may not be super good at this point, but I am getting a lock. Its a start!
I was driving when it was not working. When i am at home it uses wifi. i am using the blackstar Rom right now. I like cm roms but i like yo use the s-pen. I guess i could flash a different Rom and see if this makes a difference. I don't use gps on a daily basis but when i use it i need it to work. I will be watching this thread closely.

I was having the same issue, and slowly realized that the jb gapps was the issue for me. If I used the July gapps for JB it would get a signal and work, but if I used an updated version of gapps, it would not work. Might try installing the July JB gapps and see what happens. It only took me four days to finally figure out what was wrong, becuase it was working before the update to a newer gapps.

So do you just have to NOT update them gapps then? I understand what you are saying...but Google Maps isn't even part of the gapps package. So what is updating in the gapps that breaks functionality?

I'm still using Slim ICS with 4.0.4. The GPS is ok, it works but still not great. I don't think my phone will ever be great though. I want to try out SlimBean but it seems they are having GPS issues among other things.
Honestly, I've found that GPS can be a real hit or miss depending on your specific phone.
All hardware is not created equally, unfortunately. I'd suggest testing a few different roms and find which works best
for you specifically...because I've had luck with GPS on roms where users have reported bad GPS, and no GPS on roms where
awesome GPS was reported.
Good luck!

I would use either PA or CM10, but you need to flash the 3 gps fix files located somewhere in the PA thread. I would not use Slimbean 3.0 if you really need GPS since even if you do flash the files, no satellites come in view at all. I got a lock below 10 sec outside driving on monday at 7:30 pm. Accuracy was about ~25 feet, so it was really good. I was on CM10. Anyway, both have really good GPS as long as you have the 3 GPS files. They are called: GPS - Experia Files, YAGF2, and cwm-cm9-gps-wrap. Flash it in the order I wrote it in. They arent hard to find. Just type the names into Google. Or look in the PA thread. Good luck bro, and as Xenoism said, it also varies with device. If your device was made before Nov 2010, you probably wont get a lock no matter what unless you did the hardware fix. Even with the hardware fix, you'll still need these 3 files.
EDIT: Because I'm nice, I found the post where Jrafael posted the GPS files. It is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33575684&postcount=504
I have great gps with SlimBean and the 3gps fixes, its even better than my Galaxy Nexus. However, I owned a couple Vibrant and they all seem to have difference performance. Try the hardware gps fix if you're brave.
Note that for SlimBean if you patch mismatched patches it can make GPS stop working completely, only patch gapps from their own site.

Which version of Slimbean are you on? 2.9 works fine, but 3.0 is stone dead. (From my experience and a bunch of other members) I flashed the files and rebooted, tried getting a lock and not even one satellite appeared. Usually on other roms i get locks in less than 10 secs and after deep sleep, less than 20. I dont think he'll need the hardware fix if his phone is built after Nov 2010. But if its built before, then he'll definitely need it if he needs GPS that bad. That or get a new phone with GPS or buy a GPS :good:
