Hey all, curious about ROM/Stock battery life. - HTC Droid DNA

Hey all!
So I just picked up my Droid DNA a few days ago after trading up via manager approval from a Droid Razr M. Loved the Razr M but the screen was literally killing my eyes; couldn't read it from a rule length away... Anyway, I just wanted to get some input on peoples experiences battery life wise between stock sense 4+ and a stock ROM. I've always been a stock kind of person, but I've noticed with all the great upgrades that came along with my upgrade from the Razr M to the DNA that I've lost quite a bit of on screen time. Any input would be awesome. Thanks!!!

Just slap a kernel with wakelock fixes on this bad boy and you'll get great bettery life. And maybe viperDNA(its an amazing Rom)
With light usage you can get 2 days on the battery, and with heavy usage you can get this.

Consider a kernel...it'll fix some really serious problems...there are also roms that look like stock... battery life on stock isn't as good right now cause of wakelock. you can look up reviews and they'll tell you you will get through a day on light usage on stock. If you plan on using it more then you should consider flashing.

Wow, 6 hrs on-screen time simply amazing. I'm a heavy user and generally get about 4 hrs. What magic kernel are you using?

Viper rom, lk. Mostly wifi.

I bounce between lk and cubed. Depending if I need my phone not to crash or not.

Stock batt
This is on LTE the whole time.

When I was on stock ROM and kernel I easily got a whole day with light to medium usage.

I'm definitely able to get through the day with light use, that's not a problem. I'm more so interested in fixing the stock kernel wakelock problem that is depleting my battery when the phone is just chilling with the screen off. Out of curiosity when installing a kernel, do you have to manually set anything (I ask since the newest version of the LK kernel has the ability to over/under clock the phone, stuff I'm not really interested in messing with), or do you just have to flash and forget about it, so to speak? Thanks!

As most everyone here has already said, but I'll throw in my own experience...
Stock ROM and Stock KERNEL both have pretty good battery life. In my personal situation, I was getting from 7am to about 6pm every weekday before battery dead. My usage is heavy email, txt and voice. Moderate internet browsing. Very little music or video streaming.
With a simple flash of LK's Kernel, I'm now getting through an entire 24hr cycle on a single charge.
Thats a pretty significant improvement in battery life

Alright, I'm hooked. Going to go through the process and flash later on tonight or perhaps tomorrow when I have more time. Any suggestions on which version of LK kernel I should flash if I'm mostly interested in just stability and battery life, 0.9.3 or 0.9.4? Thanks!
-Matt

.9.4, which is the most current version.

Well it took awhile to figure it all out, but I finally got my phone unlocked/rooted and updated to 0.9.4 LK kernel. Looking forward to seeing how the battery life changes . Thanks for the input everyone ^_^!

Hatka Dna, Elkays Kernel (As per rom description), Medium Usage. Ignore the 3G icon, phone was rebooting. I use wifi at home, Lte everywhere else.

Nova prime is a stupid fast launcher. Though you dont need the LK kernal to use it, at least that is what I gathered from your post. I literally have no lag because i made the animations very light.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app

Pardon my terrible grammar. I meant I'm trying out the LK kernel. Nova looks really nice but I have an OCD like problem knowing I have 2 launchers installed haha.

Something is up with the latest LK. I am along with a few others are having issues with wakelock. Idk if its an issue with the kernel itself or what but its causing terrible battery life.

[Q] Battery Life This Bad?

I know the Thunderbolt's battery is known for being very short, but I charged it to 100% right before I went to bed, and when I woke up the next morning it was down to 63%. WiFi and 4G/3G was not on, only the cell radio. This doesn't seem normal at all, but is it?
I get atleast 12 hours with my set up. For you to get an honest reply, you need to tell us what rom, kernel, are you overclocked and such. Hard to comment without those dude.

I'm running Redemption ROM. I have no idea what kernel. I'm guessing the stock one since I never changed it. I'm not overclocked.
Maybe I could change to a ROM and kernel that gets better battery life?
The best ROM/Kernel combo I've found so far is the BAMF Cubed 1.10 with imoseyon lean kernel....After installing try doing a battery calibration...very detailed procedure with no app download at teambamf.net. But anyway, still using the stock battery from when I bought my Tbolt in March 2011....getting 26-30 hours of battery life.

Best ROM for battery life?

Well Ive been running CleanROM DE for a while now and I like it. Problem is the battery life is terrible for me. I've tried everything and I just cant improve it. I get about a 10 percent drop in an hour with light to medium usage. If the screen is on I can literally watch he bar drop.

I get fairly good life on newts one xxx rls. I got about 10 hrs today while streaming over 4g, texting, 2 calls and some Facebook. I'm sure I can get better battery life after I get over the excitement of sense 4
I have CleanROM DE 1.4 and it's the best battery life I've had, which leads me to believe you should be looking more for a different kernel. I've tried upwards to 10 different ROMs. I'm using the 3.13xx kernel he posted in Post #2 of that ROM thread.
Also, just a note, upgrading the firmware helped tremendously. Not just using the patch, but taking the dive and flashing the RUU. My phone got better with both battery life and heat.

Battery Monitor Pro is great. Even logs all that data and has nice graph. It also allows you to swap batteries and also the battery data with it so each spare battery you have is correctly calibrated.

Mean Rom ICS vs. Viper Redline ICS

I'm trying to figure it out which ICS rom to flash based on battery life and I've narrowed it down to Mean Rom ICS and Viper Redline ICS, and I was wondering if anyone would mind posting pics of the battery times.
MEAN ICS v2.0
I'm currently running MR ICS 2.0 and I'm getting pretty decent batter life. I'll have a screen shot in the morning as I haven't actually measured so I'll do an overnight test and have the screenshot up in the AM. I haven't tried the ViperROm though.
I use MR also. Pretty decient useage and i get a solid 15 hours out of it. I tried Vipers ICS in the beginning and was getting about the same. Im not sure what he has changed since the first release. I would post a pic but i just switched back to a gingerbread Rom. ICS to me has some bugs and GB i was getting better battery life and faster performance.
Hope this helps

Not to mention Mikey is focused on one sole device and Viperboy's attention is divided by at least two (3D and 4GLTE) maybe more I don't go to all the forums. Also, I use gps a lot my phone (Hardware Ver 2) runs a lot cooler with Mean then Viper when using the gps for hours upon hours. I've even used it for a 14 hour singe day drive once the screen was never off (I did use a car charger of course lol)

Or it could be what he has on his Screen. For Example he could have an alternative Launcher with one homescreen and a clock widget. And also i heard that if you use a regular black wallpaper it could save you quite amount of power. So maybe could throw in a Black Wallpaper in there.

[Q] Help - poor battery

Hi, I need some battery help, this is my first android phone after running with ios for the last 4 years, I'm using th S3 and loving it however I'm having to charge the phone twice a day. Like I say this is my first android so rooting is new and I unsure what I'm doing here. I've followed plenty tips to save battery life but it's still running down too quick.
After 3 1/2 hours of very little use my battery is at 70%
Standby has zapped 24% of that
Screen another 24%
Internet 21%
System 12%
OS 8%
These safe the main culprits for the battery use, I understand you can do something when you root the devise, any help would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks
This should be in the Q&A section, but please be specific as to what exactly you were doing? (Gaming, browsing in 3g or wifi, etc.) If you just got the phone however, just wait for about three and four days and the real battery life would start to emerge. This is the time when most phones can actually last for almost a day or two. Another thing is that you should download Better BatteryStats and find apps that give the most wakelocks. Just take a screenshot and upload it here if you need help. And live wallpapers and widgets do cause some unnecessary battery drain.

maybe something stopping your device from going into deepsleep.

Yeah. I sometimes do that when im not near a charger and my battery is dwindeling. Anything less than 800mhz is pretty bad though when your used to the rapidness.
Looks like im selling this badboy anyway. Hopefully get a lg nexus next week. It seems to me that to acheive proper butteryness you have to use toichwiz ui. None of the cm10 or even when i use nova or any other launcher. None of are as smooth as tkuchwiz.Im mad for mods and flashing so think its time for a switch.

Thinking of the same too actually. But based on the rumors, I hear more nexuses coming from other OEMs are to be actually revealed rather than just from lg. Although if the nexus 4 really does come with just 8gb of internal storage without a microsd slot then I'm sticking with my S3. Although I hear that new parts of code are already starting to show up in the Origen-board-something for exynos processors, this might turn out to be a gamechanger for our problems with cm10 or other pure android goodies.

Best rom you've ever flashed

In your opinion , which rom is the best you've ever experienced on the HTC amaze ?
By best I mean; smoothness, battery life, less amount of problems , looks
so basically I'm asking which your favorite rom is
Fourth Bar Infusion was to me the best rom i've seen for the Amaze so far.. the only issue i had with it was that the signal bars were broken
CM10, followed closely by SpeedRom 7.8 and Fourth Bar Infusion.

Honestly, even if he did, i'd be a little against using it. Nothing against NRG, or course, but last time I checked no Sense 4.X Roms or Phones have WiFi calling. I love my WiFi calling, and after Hurricane Sandy came barreling over head taking my closest tower down for days... I don't wanna give up that option.
Best 3.6 based Rom was speed Rom. Cm10 is good on battery life for me but I didn't find it as smooth as sense 4. Teamvipers sense 4.1 Rom (one posted by Leo and later thread was closed for whatever reason) has been the best Rom for me thus far. Only downside is no working Bluetooth but it's a fair trade off for 4 hours+ screen on time I will post a couple screen shots of my current run and it's buttery smooth just posted screen shots of today's usage with 44% left to go and I play a lot of temple run (hence the screen on time is high and browse via wifi all the time so it's constantly on)

I agree if people want everything working with decent battery life (not necessarily the best but to gain something you must lose something and if it's worth the sacrifice go for it) the amaze on the Htc stock Rom was a beast on it's own what always irked me about this device was it's crappy battery life compared to my Nexus one. Hence I have decided to sacrifice Bluetooth capability for basically never ending battery life on the team vipers Rom I have settled down on. However I do flash anything new to keep my device funky and fresh I still have yet to try your bulletproof reloaded sense 4.1 Rom eclipse, maybe I will flash it tonight and see if I can get even better battery life

The best Rom is the most stable Rom I've used, it's also one that's not being developed anymore "RMS Quicksense v7.0". It's clean and I've never had a freeze or error with it.
fourth bar infusion is pretty awsome and is my favorite by far

That's me second favorite , the only thing that is keeping it from first is how you have to unlock to see the person who's calling you
How are you guys getting good battery life on Energy Stock? With 23B6 Kernel...I could LOOK at the phone and the battery would drain.
My battery life with Nightmare Sense 4, i never had good battery with ASOP, AOKP, and CM10.

I see but the weird thing was that when I flashed team nightmare sense 4.1 I got horrendous battery life so I ended up going back to speed rom (at that time cm10 wasn't fully functional) do you guys plan on continuing work on that rom? Because Leo version seemed to to have everything buttery with tremendous battery life. Is kanging (sorry don't know proper term) not allowed? Aren't there a lot of roms that are kanged? Guess I am confused...
