8GB Nook bricked? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

So here is the thing... I have tried most of the SD cards options (including ubuntu one) and I can't seem to get it to do other than this loop style error, which ends with an exclamation mark and contact support.
Any ideas?

Quick update.
So after fiddling around with it, I found out that it will boot to sd card if hooked up to the pc. It will load CWM buy I don't know what else I can do from there. And it will also boot the repart.img.
The problem is that with the img one, it will get to the green check mark point, and when I remove the card to reboot the nook, it will go back to the exclamation card and please contact support.
Might as well give up?

[Q] Please Help! Stock ROM boot loop

I searched the forums, and didn't see an easy to follow answer to my question.
I just got one of the woot tablets, so I've only had it a few days. It is stock, but I did temp root it so I could apply the market fix. Everything was working fine for a couple of days, but this morning when I turned it on, it seemed to be in a boot loop (the Tap N Tap screen kept cycling until it shut itself off).
Will I need a micro sd card to recover? I saw some threads that talked about connecting to a computer and transferring a file to the internal drive, but my computer isn't recognizing the internal drive on my g-tab. I can only see it when the G-tab is booted up, and I turn on the USB transfer from the G-tab.
If there is already a thread with easy to follow instructions could someone point me in the right direction?
BTW, I have already tried the vol+ and power button, I get the message that says recovery key detected, and then the box in the center of the screen. but then it continues into a boot loop.
Thanks for your help.

You probably need to do the NVFlash to stock ROM.
Well.. I'll throw my idea out there.
I think you may need to re-partition the SD card.
Apparently this happens to all of them at some point, and in fact it did happen to mine.
The device comes rooted, so you aren't rooting or unrooting in any of this. Its already rooted.
Go here: (the clockwork guide)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
You'll want to download the cwmod_microsd from the first post, then extract the zip to the root of a micro sd card. Put the microSD card into the tab, then boot using the Vol+ and power. You will get the message that a recovery key was pressed then its going to automatically install clockworkmod recovery.
I dont recall if it finished booting at that point or shuts itself down. Regardless you'll still be in your bootloop so start it back up again using the vol+ and power key again.
This time you'll be greeted with clockwork recovery.
Once in the menu, you can go to Advanced and mount the sd card. Copy any files off of it that you may need to your computer, the next step will erase the internal SD card.
If nothing is needed, ignore this step.
**I repeat, the internal SD card will be wiped here.
From within clockwork mod recovery go to Advanced->Partition SD card. Choose 2048 for the first option and 0 for the swap.
Go back to the main clockwork screen and choose to restart device.
Cross your fingers that you boot up without a loop.
I'm doing this from memory, so if my verbage is a little off my bad. But you should see what I'm talking about.
Thank you... So I guess I need to go out and buy a micro sd card. Any size/class recomendations?
Depends.. Do you want it to get it back up and running.. 1gb or less.
Or do you want to also increase the storage of the device.. 4-32gb recommended.
If you just wanna get rolling again then get whatever the cheapest one available is.
If you're going to continue to use it, try and get a class 4 card or better, it will help with bigger file transfers.
LisaBham,
Yes, you probably will need a microSD card and it's good to get one that comes with an adapter so it fits in a SD slot to read/write. Also, if your computer does not have
a built-in reader that reads micro- or SD cards, you might need an adapter to USB.
Main thing is that you have two options, it looks like to me:
1. If you have a microSD card, you can make a CWM Recovery card out of it. Then
you can possible load CWM and get it to work even though you at looping (and BTW,
that's not your fault -- G-Tabs just do that one in a while.):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020747
If you can get CWM loaded and up, go to Advanced and run the Partition (2048 and 0)
option and the Fix Permissions Option and the Wipe Dalvik Cache option. Then go back to the Main Menu and run the Wipe Cache and Wipe/Reset Factory Data.
The shut down, boot and see if the G-Tablet will come up and work.
2. If one doesn't fix the looping problem, then you will need to continue and nvflash
back to a fresh, stock copy of the os.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
If you follow this thread all the way through, it installs a copy of bekit 1105 which is stock version 2638. Assuming that boots and runs, the when you hook up the wifi
connection it shortly will offer you an OTA (over the air) upgrade to 3588. Then
you are back to where you can do what you want to.
Hope this helps.

In recovery, advanced, you can try between mount or unmount the sdcard, and select the usb storage.
Then your pc should recognize the sdcard.
If not, try to change your sdcard.

I am using HomICS 2.0 and my Legend boots fine without an SD card. I am missing several apps because I use Link2SD. Maybe your phone is using ext3 during startup? But what would be the use of booting without a card?
Regarding the USB brick, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691187. Maybe this will help. There are several posts about the USB brick on XDA, as well as the SD card fault. I had that as well, until I formatted the SD card in Recovery and created a ext3 partition there.
Hmm on one ocassion my PC wasn't able to detect my legend but later on I found out that it was a problem with my datacable. I hope it might help you.

SOLVED [Q] How to Boot from an SD card without changing stock OS

It's been awhile since I've done anything root/rom related, so I am just a bit rusty. (And I apologized for the long post).
I have no problems following directions, just need to find them. I have searched, but I have been on so many posts/pages, my head is spinning at this point.
Background:
Back in 2012 I rooted and installed everything internally on EMMC. (CWM, etc...)
I decided I wanted to go back to stock OS and run alt OS system from SD Card. I decided on this: CM10.2 Jellybean (Android 4.3) for Nook Tablet (IMG/SDC Boot) (22AUG2013) for an SD card.
(On that post, he has a boot zip and an image file for the 10.2.0-RC0_09AUG2013_HD_SDC_IMG. version. No image for the (22AUG2013) version.)
So, I used the file from this post: [Stock Firmware]Restore Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet 16G 1.4.0 from SDCard and was able to get back to stock, no problem. Currently running Nook OS version 1.4.2
I formatted a SD Card using SDFormatter, and burned the above mentioned image (10.2.0-RC0_09AUG2013_HD_SDC_IMG) using win32diskimager-v0.9-binary.
My dilemma:
The Nook will not boot from the SD Card. I put the SD Card in the Nook. I tried starting it normal, (power button only), and it booted to stock.
I tried the power & n (home) key, release power while holding n key, still boots to stock.
So, I added the boot file to the SD Card, first just the unzipped boot file, then I copied all the files in the boot folder straight to the card.
Same result, boots to stock. Tried booting with USB plugged into computer. Still boots to stock.
So, I read a little more, and flashed the repart.img, thinking maybe some of my previous root files were hanging around somewhere inside.
Did the same sequence burning the files on the SD Card as before. Same results. Nook always boots stock.
Can someone direct me to a post, or a solution, that I may have missed in my endless search on here?
I don't want to root if I don't have to. Everything I'm reading seems to indicate that I should be able to boot from an SD Card.
Am I missing a step? Do I have to run the Block OTA's first? At this point I am so confused.
Currently running Nook OS version 1.4.2
(Thanks to anyone who reads this whole thing. I just wanted to list everything I did.)
I can't see any mention of the standard boot from sd for troublesome Tablets: Turn off device, insert card, then insert USB cable connected to wall adapter.

+1.
The power source doesn't have to be an wall adapter, PC or a connected USB hub would work just as well.

So, I tried the wall socket method, and same non-results.
I am going to partition the SDcard and build it with the cm_acclaim_10.2.0-RC0_22AUG2013_HD_SDC files and see if that works.
We'll see how that goes
Thanks for the replies from both of you. Glad to know someone is willing to help with my quandry

Well, it worked using the partitioned card! Maybe I just got a bad download of the rom image file.
Thank you guys again for the replies. Greatly appreciated !

[Q] My tablet is down, stuck in one spot

HI
I have a nook tablet. I had an android card in it also. Last week on a trip I had used it fine and one day I turned it on and now it is stuck in the window Barnes and Nobles nook. I took android card out and tried factory reset, took it to the store and also called in about it and nothing makes it want to get past that window. I also checked my android card and that got deleted somehow. How do I get this back running to the nook mode or even and android mode so I can run both nook and kindle books on it. I am pretty good and doing computer things but don't make it to complicated. I am 68. Thanks for any help because I like using this thing even though I have a 10 inch tablet
Bill
I'd suggest you burn a pre-made CM10.2 SDcard image from http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2013...id-4-3-for-nook-tablet-imgsdc-boot-09aug2013/ (see section under heading "sdcard images") -- it's basically a superb yet free version of the android card you had bought.
Boot this SD image from power-off state and by inserting a powered USB cable; if you succeed in booting and running this image off SDcard then your hardware is still functional and you can proceed to restoring your internal ROM (see last section of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48612997&postcount=1).
