is 4.1.2 better than 4.2.1? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

im in 4.2.1 at the moment and I notice that this firmware is not getting much ROM and kernel support as compared to 4.1.2...
like Inked screen, multiwindow, Gallery and Task Manager mods..
dont forget Paranoid Android...
so what exactly is the future? (or upper hand) 4.2.1 or 4.1.2

4.2 is custom like supernexus, no 4.2 stock version for our device yet.

4.2 is custom at the moment where as 4.1.2 was just released officially.
You will find much more support for 4.1.2 for that reason alone, being that there is a higher chance people will be on this firmware.
You can run modded deviations, run stock 4.1.2 or stock based firmwares as well..
If you want those features you are better off going to 4.1.2, i tried 4.2.1 but ended up going back to 4.1.2 because i wanted those features

Huh... you want a rom built by samsung but that has absolutly nothing samsung made in it? Not sure how's that even possible
There's only 2 ways to go, from what i understand:
- for absolutly nothing related with samsung your best bet is any rom compiled (and modded) from google sources like CM10, aokp, slimbean, etc
or
- any samsung based rom with those aroma setups that allow for the removal of just about anything before installing. In this sense you'll be good with just about any rom you pick since all seem to have it But you'll still have samsung stuff in it since they built it, not sure if there's how to go round that

[Q] Replace samsung stock browser with AOSP browser??

Hi guys... I wondered if there is a way to replace the samsung stock browser apk with the aosp stock browser (typical of the nexus devices) and if so, is there any guide that can explain how? I recently flashed the ufficial fw 4.1.2 jb (exactly the XWLSD Stock JellyBean 4.1.2 Italia No Brand) and I would like to use the aosp browser ! Is there anyone that can help me ??
ps. I've just seen that there's a way to do this change, but the guide refers to galax s3 and I don't know if it's ok also for gs2 !

Doubt it. You're running stock which is Samsung base, AOSP use Google base so the APK's are not compatible with each other. If the AOSP browser is that important to you, run an AOSP rom.
Edit - Or....Dual boot maybe ? (Do your research).

I'm agree with you when you say that the stock is samsung base and so it can be incompatible with it, but if you take a look at the thread that I've posted (that one reffered to galaxy s3) it's seems to be possibile with a a stock jelly bean ! what do you think??

[Q] Best SIII 4.4 ROM or BTU?

Hi All
Long story short, my phone broke and samsung fixed it under warrantee. They returned it with the vodaphone 4.3 flavor OS which was bloated to bursting point with all the crap-ware they add. So naturally the phone was dead slow, which prompted me to flash it to the 4.3 BTU. The phone is quite fast now, but the updates don't work so I'm stuck with those dreaded initial 4.3 software bugs, wifi connectivity & battery drain to name just 2.
I'd like to know if there are any decent & stable 4.4 ROMs available? I have tried CM11 earlier this year, but that didn't work to well, it was quite buggy.
I'd love to be able to install the 4.4.x BTU, but as far as I can tell, it hasn't been released (yet?).
Advice would be great.
Thanks!

I never expirienced any strange bugs like eith new 4.3 uodates, try using some great custom 4.3 roms out here, like archidroid, neatrom, arhd etc. Just search and try, combine it with a custom kernel and your phone will be reborned.
4.4.x ism't and won't be released for s3, because, well, samsung is $#&*, but you have note2 4.4 ports, like QS kitkat Archiport, and s5 themed like Blekota etc. But these 4.4 ports are having graphical glitches which occur for some, for some not, but as I see, Lord Boeffla updated his Boeffla kernel and in new updates graphical glitches are gone, battery life is much better and wifi direct and screen mirroring are working.
So if you want best stability go with custom 4.3, if you want to test out the kitkat experience which should be good now if combined with Boeffla kernel then go with some 4.4 port.
And don't forget, best rom threads are not allowed and will be closed by moderator, you should try what xda world has to offer and then decide.

How do I load a custom kernel? I've only ever flashed with Odin and then that was just the ROM.
Just as a matter of interest, 4.4 has been released for the S3 on certain carriers.
Flash the kernel through your custom recovery.
Only the versions of the s3 which have 2gb of ram have kitkat..other versions do not including the international version
Sent from a "Galaxy" far, far away with my Ultra Ray Gun

Just as Pulseuser mentioned, 4.4 is released only for i9305 LTE variant of s3.
About custom kernel, the easiest method is to root your phone using cf-autoroot, just google cf auto root and download the .tar.md5 for Odin for i9300 S3. Then when your phone is rooted download ROM Manager from playstore and install Clockwork Mod recovery, then reboot to the recovery via rom manager app and choose install zip from sdcard, fin your custom kernel/rom or whatever you want to flash and then tap yes and reboot, but first copy your custom kernel/rom on sdcard.
It is very easy, you even have tutorials on youtube on how to flash something via CWM recovery.

Best ROM based on stock for P710?

Hi, I have a LG L7 II P710. My ROM is the V10H of the company Orange, Spain (Jelly Bean). I want a ROM based on Stock, KK, root, etc...
Here there are many, but I don't know what to choose. Which should you choose?
Sorry for my bad english
Amiga500 latest kitkat rom
If you don't insist on KK (which is very problematic in this device in terms of performance and stability), then I would say that Purified Stock 1.0 (JB based) is the ROM for you.

JB of LG don't like me. So, this ROM, Purified Stock, is in version KK? If in that version, do you recommend me?

Purified stock 1.0 is JB based, and Purified 2.0 is KK based. I haven't tried the 2.0 version, so I can't tell you anything about it. I have tried Amiga KitKat ROM versions 1 & 2, and they were OK for KK ROMs (didn't try the more advanced versions), but I reverted to JB ROMs after it turned out that all KK ROMs I was using (stock, Amiga and CM11) were inferior to the JB ROMs in terms of performance and stability.

I tried the last version of Amiga KitKat and this have many bugs... Is smother and the look is almost identical to the LG G3.
I'll try Purified Stock 2.0 and i will tell my opinions.

You can't do nothing, try another rom, neutronrom (kk 4.4.2), purified stock v1 (jb 4.1.2)
As you can see, nowadays there are some great roms for our LG L7II. But also notice that some of them were created/ported and launched for download but, after that, their respective developers have turned into other projects so, you might want to test the roms that still have people working on it so you can solve the problems you can have while testing the rom.
I've tested many of the roms but in general the KitKat based roms (call it Stock rom, Stock debloated, or fully modded like CM) are always buggy, unstable, slow, etc. Of course they have great improvements in security, UI, etc but what I'm trying to say it's that it is not worth. Or at least you should be giving it a try to JellyBean based roms like the one neutrondev is making.
Of course the best thing about Android (Linux) is that you can always have a little bit of a taste of everything. Everything is possible. :good:
