[Q] UnRoot + Remove Triangle Issues! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I'm new to XDA,
I bought a SGS2 yesterday second hand and it was already rooted. The problem was that I don't know what the guy rooted it with to un-root it (if that makes sense or if I'm just talking rubbish who knows!!!). Also I have the yellow triangle but can't get rid of it, I can't download the TriangleAway app as it says my phone is not compatible or is the wrong version (I have the GT-i9100). I would prefer not to buy a usb jig.
So my question is how can I un-root with these circumstances and how can I get the triangle away?
Any help is appreciated!:good:
Thanks,

easies way to unroot is to flash a stock rom, it will remove the root.
triangle away will work on rooted roms only. I suspect the phone was not properly rooted.
What rom is installed on the phone.

If you have SuperSU in the phone (whoch you probably have) you can unroot it.
There is an option there that could make the device fully unroted. But i haven't tried the method so it's up to you, but seeing that Chainfire has made it, i would trust it.
Do at your own risk.
Cheers.

Flash a stock ROM is the best solution... With no risks...

[Q] been looking, where are answers?

I hope no one gets too upset but the only way i think i will find an answer is to ask..... here goes:
I have a vodafone australia i9100t:
kernel 2.6.35.7-i9100tdukf4-cl331615
[email protected]#2
gingerbread.dukf
i flashed a rooted kernel, supercurio_3 so i had root access. now i have the following:
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100xwkdd-cl161513
[email protected] #voodoo
So what i am wanting to know is...... If i want to put a rom on, or have keis update {very slow in aussie} or even a newer version of factory via odin - what is the latest.... how do i easily get cwm and why does there appear to be so many versions of how too's on the sgs2 section? theres really nothing wrong with my phone but i would like it to be up to date but mine is clearly not. and if i want to use a rom then i would like to know how to do that easier. using odin isnt the problem dont get me wrong, thats the easy part.... the confusing part is re-flashing factory kernels after rooting? whats that about, and where did the guide go... i was sure there used to be one. if im asking in the wrong place have a mod take it down but thats the state of the forum..... where do you ask?
Oh last of all from what i find the I9100t can be flashed no dramas with a rom... is that correct?
Thanks for all help
Normally rooted moded kernels come with CWM recovery , i don't know if supercurio_3 comes with , you can try power off phne, then Hold Volume up + Power + home, if you boot into CWM recovery you are done , you can flash any rom. If no CWM just flash CF root kernel .
Rooting and flashing mods on SGS2 is super easy.
My first day i got SGS2
1. flashed CF root kernel with odin.
2. Got into CWM recovery flashed ROM. Done.
Use kies only if you want to stay on pure stock, pointless in my opinion.
Supercutio does not come with cwm. What firmware should i use? Mine is old.... Very old for this phone

[Q] UltraToxic Rom v8.0.2 startup yellow triangle removal?

Hi, I have just flashed UltraToxic Rom v8.0.2 on my device as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334124&page=69 I can't get rid of my yellow triangle with my mini USB jig. Can anyone direct me to a tutorial to do this? I have rooted a stock ROM before & the jig worked then. No idea why now. I think it might have to do with a kernel but I don't want to lose access to CWM / Titanium Backup Pro.
TIA
You need to flash the old bootloader in Odin then use the jig. Just Google it.
Edit: http://www.multiupload.com/LQQBRQVJUD
Just flash in the bootloader section of Odin.

Thanks sxi200! Got it all done now. Didn't load back on the new bootloader. I don't think it will make much difference if I have the old one. I know where to get it if i need to. Thanks again!
No probs! Glad you got it sorted.

use old bootloader is ok in 2.3

I tried most ics versions (stock, bezke, wanam, cm9) and always reflashed the old bootloader. Didn't notice any difference except that the jig worked.

CF Root or No CF Root?

Hi Guys,
This maybe a noob question but I want to understand something. What is the difference between CF root and the other root method (i.e. flashing an insecure kernel and then using Superoneclick and then flashing back a secure kernel). I have never rooted my phone before. I read that CF root is not compatible with ROM manager. Is it bad?
Can someone please explain the difference to a learner

CF root is easy, you just flash the kernel and you are done.
The advantage over the other root methods is that you get CWM recovery as well.
The disadvantage is that its harder to get rid of the yellow triangle (if you care about that sort of thing), easiest method is a USB jib.
CF root comes with its own app that does most of the things rom manager does, so thats not here nor there, just dont use rom manager with it.
I would just go with cf-root, its quick and its easy.
CF-root => KI9 kernel version
Hello everybody,
I updated my firmware version trough Kies today, from KF3 to KI9.
As I wanted to root my S2 in order to install MIUI, i searched for the KI9 kernel at Chainfire's thread, but didn't find the corresponding file.
I searched the forum and came up with this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278&page=708
Unfortunately I can not reply on an developers section of the forum, so i thought this was the best place to ask it:
Which kernel should I use in order to correctly root my phone ?
Many thanks
EDIT: Question already answered is other thread. Thx anyway

triangle disappears after you flash stock kernel, or you can use USB Jig (very cheap on ebay)

Thanks a lot . And if i wanted to install CM after rooting CF is still good? And does CWM have as many custom ROMs as the ROM manager?

I did read it. I understand CF is more noob friendly. But I don't wanna be a noob forever . So considering later on when I wanna change ROMs would the CWM be as good as ROM manager? I know maybe I am thinking ahead without even rooting once. But nothing wrong in knowing stuff, right?

ROM manager is not compatible with SGS2, because the recovery and kernel partitions are the same. Do not use it, else you will have problems.
As suggested, flash a CWM root kernel such as Chainfire CF-root or siyahkernel. This will give root and custom CWM recovery to flash.zip custom ROMs, kernels, themes, mods, modems etc, and ROM (nandroid) backup and restore.
Edit: as previously posted, CF-root will also instal CWM Manager app.

Ok. Then I'll go with CF Root itself. Thanks a lot to all you guys.
Don't muck around just by a jig off eBay for about 3 bucks.
Triangle and flash counter can be reset and any kernel or Rom can be flashed and then concealed.
For warranty it's not just then triangle the look for its also the flash counter. Jig is the go.

[Q] Can I unroot back my phone after I installed Cyannogen?

Let say I root my SGA, then installed CWM recovery, and then I installed Cyannogen.
Is it I can unroot back in order to remove superuser?
Will my Cyannogen had problem because of this unrooting process???
Without root youre Ace will be like a rock )
Why u wanna do that ?
For what ?
you can unroot by flashing any stock rom you want with odin.
Hmm. Superoneclick has a unroot function, but custom ROM will not function well if you are doing it for warranty you gotta reflash stock ROM

While someone learning the rooting process just to flash cwm n custom rom...this guy want to use unrooted custom rom
What are you trying to achieve?
Sent From ACE BeATs
This file will UNROOT it .. But I don't know what will happen to your ACE with that Custom ROM .. I don't take any responsibilities ..
just out of curiosity, why would you want to unroot if you are on a custom rom? I can understand when its for warranty but there's no reason on cyanogenmod.
guess some people had weird way of thinking :/
why would you? just dont use root features and dont risk the things that could happen when unroot on a custom rom
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
you wanna keep cyanogenmod just without root? 3 ways. 1) go into the flashable .zip file for the rom.and delete superuser.apk . 2) get supersu from the market then open it. go into settings then unroot (deletes binary files and superuser so this makes more space for whatever you want.) 3) theres a few apps on the market that "hide" root but dosnt get rid of it. type root hide (or something like that) into google play then find a app. note that you can get root back anytime.
note: if you use supersu then you can just delete binary files if you may want root in the future (deletes superuser.apk and binary but keeps its own binary hidden if you just delete binary. then in the future download supersu (not superuser because the binarys gone) and your rooted again. sometimes root apps work without supersu / superuser if the binarys still there. you just dont get the notification)

I think I know why ! He wants the speed of custom ROMs without rooting !
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace. Problem?
Maybe we could take this opportunity to shout out to samsung about official ICS...just install CM9..unroot..send it to the service center..when they switch it on they get surprised seeing ICS on the ace without the device being rooted...they then inform the powers-that-be at samsung and then we get an official update..
P.S. : you know what i meant ryt? coz i dont..

[Q] Triangle away or jig do not work ATT SGH i777

Newbie here please be patient. Looked high and low in XDA did not find my answer.
Triangle away or jig does not work to reset custom ROM counter. Triangle away error message “Missing magic header”.
Would I be able to repeatedly reset custom ROM counter with jig or Triangle Away after new new custom ROM install if I do the following?
1. Flash back to stockroot UCKH7. I have stockroot.tar
2. Install AoCP 5.9.5 directly? I want JB 4.2.2 and update to newer versions in future
3. Flash only the UCMD8 modem.
Current state and history -
SGH i77 – Unlocked, Rooted, Base band curent UCMD8 from official att update but via odin, previous UCLE5, UCKH7 (factory)
Kernel – Jeboo, previous Siyah which went away after AoCP ROM install
ROM – Current AoCP 5.9.5. Previous AoCP 5.9, 5.7; AOKP all installed with UCLE5 present
Thanks
Just out of curiosity, why does it matter to you if the triangle is there? You still have a warranty? I just traded mine in for my s4 at att and they didn't care about the triangle... just in case that's your reason.

It depends on the kernel. I got it to work with STi or AJK (I can't remember which). It's annoying, isn't it?! That's the only reason I wanted it removed!
Whizzpopper - Did either of the kernels you named work after the official ATT JB updat? Or did you have to roll back to UCKH7 first?
By the way, I rooted after official update using Jeboo, But when I installed AoCP ROM it got replaced with CWM. Similarly when I tried Siyah it got replaced with CWM. So do not know if AJK or STi will stick.
Toakster - Just because I am square? Seriously, why put up with the triangle when it means nothing?
same here does not work on my sgh-s2-i777 even tho even tho im rooted on stock at 4.1.2
is there another way or am i missing something?

Developer's thread does not currently list this phone as supported. If I remember correctly, it used to be supported, and I know for sure that it worked on Ice Cream Sandwich, but it may not work on Jelly Bean. Or, it may be necessary to use an older version in combination with ICS. I don't really know as I have not tested it in a long time.
CONFIRMED

Yeah I seccond that, I'm also running 4.1.2 STOCK JB on i777 and it don't even run, all it say it can do is dump a file to help find the problem or smth.
if you look at the app's official website, it does not support i777 anymore, so maybe you could try reverting back to ICS use an older version of the app and then use MobileOdin to flash the new custom ROM without tipping the wire.
