Wait for Gingerbread or Root?

I'm going to buy my first android phone quite soon(this week if I'm lucky), the O1 P500. Heard about the touch screen lag bug and I'm quite worried.
Anyhow, I need to know:
1)If Android 2.3(Gingerbread) is going to fix this problem.
2)What is the best android version to run (heard about shorter battery life in the 2.2.2 version or something like that)
3)Should I root now, add a custom rom then the kernel fix or should I wait for 2.3? If it's the first, what's the best rom to use?(heard that CM7 needn't the kernel fix but not sure)
I'm not quite attracted of messing with my phone right after I put my hands on it... I gotta get used to it, personalize it and install all those stylish app.
Thanks in advance!
Hello, congratulations on buying the P500.
1) Wether the touchscreen will be fix or not, we will know when Gingerbread is released.
2)The best would be 2.2(froyo) stock rom.
3) Use devoid franciscofranco's devoid rom. It has Good tweaks in it without the hassle of flashing extra files.
Don't worry after you root your phone, you will learn how to unroot it.
Latest Froyo-update (2.2.2) solved it partionally.
Rooting and flashing one of the latest kernels found in some threads sometimes give better results (for example the one from franciscofranco .
Can you explain "partionally"?
Also, is the fast battery drain gone in the latest update?
Thanks.
Honestly, it's really not that hard to root and flash a ROM.
The stock CM7 mod is fine. I'm using mik's build (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354) and I highly recommend it.
Does beta6.3 have the touchscreen bug fixed?
Root men... ROOT!!!!
Well, I guess root it is.
Up until a few minutes ago I though I'd have to flash a custom ROM to install the touchscreen fix kernel ) Then something in my head went "click" and I realized I can just flash it to the stock rom with CR and also use SetCPU and what not.
Thanks for the answers/votes.

Official 2.3 Gingerbread, rooted w/crapware removed for Clockworkmod?

Hi, does that exist? Can it be possible?
I think user cyber_avijit's GB rom is what you are looking for.

My issue with these custom roms
Before ranting about my relatively bad experiences with custom roms, I'd like to thank the community for its hard work to make our experience a little more enjoyable.
So I bought the Optimus One and messed with it until I recently discovered custom roms for it. I payed $150 for the smartphone so I decided to get a little more out of it thinking that I got a great deal.
I've tried several custom roms but they're either extremely buggy, drain the battery too quickly or are just not stable enough to use at times you need it the most. Now who am I to say this? Just a user. I should stay out of this and stick with stock roms if I'm not happy. Right. But I'd like to know why so many people trip over these incomplete custom roms when they take the good thing of what a smart phone should be... A smart phone! I get almost no battery life with ciaox's rom, he brags about having the most "performant" rom out there and insults people who try to create something more stable. Who cares about overclocking your P500 when you can't leave the house without charging it? I know that there are several tweaks that can be added to the P500 without even needing to overclock, which makes a noticeable difference in the UI but I can still say that battery life sucks and/or the OS is unstable.
Is there a STABLE rom that takes MINIMAL energy with more PERFORMANCE than stock? I do not care about 3d games because this phone is not made for that, no matter how much you try to convince yourself that it can be.
Thanks
Have you tried Mik_os CM7, I get good results with it, Ive never used anything by Ciaox

Hmmm.... Use the v20c from my signature? If you want to remove crapware, flash signed_decrapify_v20c.zip (attached), run
Code:
$ su
# appinst
from terminal emulator and uninstall whatever you want.
Result? Stock rooted 2.3.3, stock kernel, crapware removed.

Ofcourse thats possible! i hav the exact same thing in fact.
Official GB 2.3.3 V20C, rooted with super one click, flashed cwm recovery, threw out all the crapware (if u r referin to useless apps)! ---> is this is what u meant!
Added the script above. Only for stock v20c ROM. If something breaks, your own fault.
great, is it possible to have stock kernel with just oc enabled?

Change of rom

Hey ppl,
i want to change the rom... but before im doing it i want to ask a few questions:
1: i can flash any rom i want on my device? (any rom for i9100)
2: do i need to know anything before doing that? ( for instance not to flash some rom before fully wipe or somthing)
3: how do i know what karnel is fitted with the rom? and which is not...
4: when i change the root the modem version changes as well?
i know that probably people already asked all this question andthere are answers somewhere on the forum but after an hour of search i didnt find those
thanks!!!
1. Yes, only i9100 roms (not i9100G)
2. Usually its better to do a full wipe before flashing, but some roms do not require a wipe. Just backup everything before you wipe. (nandroid, titanium backup or mybackup, etc)
3. If you download an ICS rom, use ICS kernels, no GB kernsl. Same for the opposite. Also depending on the rom you download, make sure its compatible with the kernel.
If you download CM9 for example, make sure the kernel you download is compatible with AOSP, there are some kernels made only for samsung roms.
4. If your data connection isnt good, just change to another modem and see how it goes. You can change to any modem.

1.as long as it's for gt-i9100, yep you can
2.there is a lot to know in this regard.but it depends on the ROM, so you need to read the ROM thread and FAQ in the thread carefully.
3.you need to refer to the kernel thread in order to find out if it supports Sammy, AOSP/AOKP or both of them.
4.you don't change root! You gain root access.
And rooting has nothing to do with modem.but have in mind that most of the ROMs will flash your modem. So it's the ROM not root access.
in the end, yes all of your question has been answered before.so increase your searching ability and use search button more.

It's only question of taste.but if you want TV out you should go with custom Sammy Roms like foxhound, omega or wanamlite.
There is thread in original development section where you can find collection of modems. Download and flash via CWM

No idea. may be there is no problem. But why you want to flash kernel first. Actually everyone first flash rom and then most compatible/recommended kernel.
Thanks alot. I will try that and hope its work.

Z2 d6502 limitations on custom roms

Hi everybody
Ive had my Z2 for like 5 months now im on loli5.1.1 stock unrooted (.1.232 firmware)
I have loads of apps i guess alot of em running in the back by themselves and im always on STAMINA but i get like 1 day and a half with 100% charge with medium usage (no HD gaming 2hr 3g data and like 3hr wifi and 2~3 hrs watching non-hd movies and 2hrs of music on 2days usage) and i would have to charge like everyday and my brightness is most of the time at the lowest possible
so as you can see im not getting as good battery as i expect of 3200mAh
i decided to try some custom android and see if i get better results
i saw alot of roms but alot of them are [D6503] and there are no notes for d6502 users , WHAT IS THE DEAL HERE ? the only difference is LTE
is there like a general zip file or baseband that you can flash for all [D6503] roms or they just dont support ?
and please tell me that my battery situation is normal if not what is wrong with it ?

how about non-cm based roms ?
the difference is just LTE isnt it possible to just remove it from that rom or replace it with another configuration from stock rom ?
Using the minimal information you have provided 2 hours of 3g and 3 hours of WiFi and 2 hours of Movies = 7 hours of screen on time. That's pretty good.
How about you provide some battery stat information so people aren't guessing?

Baseband of D6502 and D6503 are different. There are no other differences. So, if you flash any rom, you have to flash D6502 patch (baseband). It will replace D6503 baseband from ur phone and set D6502 baseband. All rom makers provide it with their rom. It's not even a problem. Just flash it after installing rom.

Download this patch and flash it. It will work for latest 5.1.1 fw (both 232 and 264 build) and you can use it with any stock based rom.
