[Q] So you think you're so "special"?!?!? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a question for all those guys that make a big deal about having their phone upgraded to ICS or JB. I would like to know what is the big difference or a feature that would make my phone Atrix that's stuck on GB so special? I mean, I can run any browser I want except maybe chrome, I can run any email app and watch and listen to music just like on upgraded phone... oh and lets not forget I can still make phone calls. Have I been living under a rock or do you know something I don't? Please let me know
Thanks for your time.

Well firstly, ICS/JB is soo much smoother and much more asthetically pleasing. Many more people prefer ICS/JB and they are entitled to their own opinions.
Also, many people are angry at MotoFail because they promised us ICS and did not deliver. This is what has caused most of the outrage.

Well, yes I'm mad myself that they did not upgrade my $600 phone. BTW I'm using GO Launcher so my phone still looks pretty good and I can't complain about not being smooth. If this is it, it ain't that bad.

Yes, for now most applications support GB, but as percentage of ICS/JB will grow, more and more application developers will dump GB support. There are some bugs in GB that are not fixed and probably won't be ever fixed, so some developers make workaround for them, some don't, so you can stumble upon one of those if you are 'lucky'. Most of new applications are primarily targeting new ICS interface with Action Bar, so they support GB with third party Action Bar library which also has a lot of bugs, some application features could be disabled because it is hard or impossible to implement them in GB. And things will get worse...

I agree, these two things may seem small, but going back from CM10.1 to CM7 makes it feel like my phone is very slow (although I'm sure this is more of a perception than a real difference).

ICS and JB bring UI enhancements. More importantly, there are apps that only work on ICS and above and will never be backported, Which apps are important to users, depends on the user. For instance, Brighthouse and TWC have cable apps that only work on ICS and above. And as time goes by, you'll find more and more newer apps will require ICS and later, especially since ICS itself was released 16 months ago.
But you're right, you can still make phone calls and you can still use 2 year old apps. But if all you care about is using just a phone, you can get one without paying for a smartphone plan for a hell of a lot less money. And while it's unrealistic to have the latest greatest software at all times for the term of the contract, the device at least should not be obsolete before the ink dries on that contract. While the device still mostly works as it did when it was new, the actual resale value has plummeted since the ICS update cancellation announcement, so much so that a decent protective case costs more than what the device is currently worth.
So when it comes to why people make such a fuss about ICS, aside from the cancelled update, and aside from all the marketing hype that went into the device that got people to buy it in the first place, and aside from the fact that ICS and JB are that much better or they wouldn't be considered updates/upgrades, some people like to at least be a little current. After all, why go buy a new computer when people will give you an old one running windows 3.11 for free? Who knows, maybe you can find an old Univac somewhere. While we're at it, why use anything new at all when we can go back to wearing animal hides and banging rocks together to make tools.
I should tell you about the security vulnerabilities as well, but I'm not going to. Sometimes the lesson becomes more valuable when the person learns on their own, even if it's with some rogue dialer hooking you up with one of those $100/minute pay per call lines like back in the days of dialup.

Go Launcher is smooth only after first one or two clicks. It has many advantages like foldering but for the smoothness, i dont think so.
What pisses me off about GB is notification bar pull-down. Sometimes it gets damn so laggy and slow.

Google Now, Multiple GTalk logins, stable push connection, data counter/limiter, better app support, interface that's easier to use and navigate, faster, and many other improvements.
Stable push connection is the one that really made me not want to go back. When I'm on mobile data on GB it would disconnect every 4-5 minutes, and then wait for a few minutes before reconnecting, and then disconnect again after another 4-5 minutes, ad infinitum. I can't tell you how many times I've been frustrated seeing gray status bar icons instead of green ones. And the fact that GB's push mail & market is dependent on the gtalk service doesn't help.
Gray icons? No gtalk messages, no mail, no downloading from the market.
Signed out of gtalk? No mail, no downloading from the market.
It was frustrating...

I don't care about staying in gb, imo the problem is that there are apps made only for 4.x+ and in a close future gb will be definitely dead.

I bought this phone 9 months ago for 300€, even a Lapdock (120€), and I hear that ICS won't be delivered by Moto and my digitizer starts glitching (A full zone of the screen). Now my phone is unlocked the warrantly is void. This is what makes me angry.

I'm surprised that Motorola hasn't recognized the digitizer problem. Too many people are affected by it.

The digitizer doesn't mean much to them. The device is 2 years old and they stopped caring long ago.

I think you guys are exaggerating a little bit. I mean I went to the store and played with phones that run JB and my old Atrix is pretty much just as smooth. I can play Youtube videos in 1080p no problem. And Google Now... do I really need it? I mean I don't live in my phone or on facebook like some of you hard core cell phone users. Balintmaci what did you notice that was so special when browsing on JB OS? Im using Opera browser and it runs pretty fast.
balintmaci said:
smoothness, many apps, YouTube in 720p for instance. hardware acceleration makes it WAY faster. you can not compare the browsing experience... Google now. that's just what I can think of in a few seconds... i believe that's more than enough.

Less reboots/stability
My stock FY/GB Atrix rebooted randomly a lot. It's the whole reason I looked into roots and ROMs in the first place.

I rooted...unlocked...and put epinters CM10 on my Atrix cuz Motorola said I couldn't!

Haha... good for you mister. Now I'm a total newbe so pardon the stupid question. When you guys flash roms to CMx... ie ICS or JB does this allow you to download and install apps that require that OS from play store?

Same. Got the device in September of 2011 from local AT&T store, in October it started randomly rebooting, even after several factory resets. Between that and the unified messenger spam, I was not impressed.

Yes...and I can flash back to a GB rom anytime I want. I prefer the JB rom without all the bloatware and epinters rom is very good.

Thinking about selling my iPhone and getting the Atrix. Is the Atrix rock solid??

I have been kicking around getting the Atrix as my first Android cause I love my friends HTC Incredible so much but I am on AT&T so the Atrix looks like a good one to me, but I am just wondering if this phone has any bugs that need to be worked out as far as software or hardware goes? Thanks
The bugs on the ATRIX is due to MOTOBLUR. You can set the ATRIX free if you root and unlock it

My experience with the Atrix.
I've had the phone for 3 days. Overall it's an amazing device. However, since I've had it the main issue has been reboots&crashes(my phone is not rooted). The funny thing is when I'm using it, it has never rebooted or crashed, but when it's idle it tends to crash frequently(about 10 times per day). As of now, I'm still trying to figure out what's causing this. So far from what I've found on a few android forums suggests that the problem only exists on some devices. There are some Atrix phones that don't have the rebooting problem at all.

Oh, okay so it's kind of like a Volkswagen where one is great and the other is junk? Ha ha just playin. But I take it that this is not really a common problem with this phone but you just got unlucky, and maybe another handful of people?
Or maybe like Mr flo said up above that it's all because of Motoblur?
Imo wait till October or November. There will be a whole new line up of phones coming out. The Atrix is epic but there will be better in the new future.

forget trying to figure out whats wrong and exchange it for another if you can, thats something in the hardware most likely
Overall it's a solid phone, and almost every iPhone user that made the changeover usually posts that they are happy they left the iPhone for the Atrix.
In the end you are getting a dual-core phone with a 1GB of RAM and a large battery.
Plus this phone just got the BL unlocked, so that means you will have CM7 and Ice Cream Sandwich in some form (possibly even official)...

The ATRIX is future proof....these current and upcoming dual-core phones have only matched the ATRIX. I have a custom rom and kernel....and my ATRIX flies

"future proof" makes me happy I just realized that I just made 10 posts! Ha ha!! I'm FREE!! Now it's time for me to go into the DEVELOPMENT THREAD and cause some real trouble, ha ha.
i have had mine for about 3 days, no reboots and whatnot. I am liking the way the phone feels and works. calls are clear via bluetooth speakerphone and the regular earpiece.
ive ditched the default messaging app for chomp sms(its basically bitesms but better and smoother in alot of ways, same dev team if im not mistaken). and im not using the default launcher anymore, launcher pro seems smoother.
anyway hardwarewise the phone is awesome, even with the motoblur on it in a nonrooted oem rom. with that said i plan to root and try out some different roms in the near future

This is my first android phone and I love it! I've already rooted and unlocked it. I've flashed several ROM's already and have had excellent results. There have been a few reboots and connection issues but nothing to seriously complain about. My current ROM has taken care of all that and I'm getting over 30 hours of battery life without changing anything. I don't know about "future proof" with LTE coming but it will be tough to find a better phone
I have 2 in my household.
The wife's is as stock as stock can be and it is rock solid. Never had an issue with the phone. No force closes, no issues, just a solid work beast. Nearly, only nearly mind, rivals a Berry for battery life.
Mine on the other hand has gone through the wars a bit as regards reliability BUT all of those issues were my fault not the phone.
I am like most of those posting here in that I do like to play and tinker with ROMs, apps and anything else we can think of playing with. The upside is that after that learning curve I have a phone that is fantastically quick, great battery life and not really going to be left wanting for much over the next year or two as regards hardware.
Same as most android's really it is what you make of it. If you want a solid work beast, it can do that. If you want to play, you can do that.
Importantly though is that the initial learning curve has been gone through, mostly on this great forum, so if you want to root, mod, unlock the bootloader and whatever else may come make sure you research it.
There is only one rule really. If you unlock the bootloader and use the official AT&T Gingerbread update NEVER go back to Froyo. Remember that and now it is quite hard to mess up.
I know I have tried !
Wow, thanks a lot guys... I think this will be my first Android after reading what you all have said about this phone. Thanks for taking the time to give me your opinions, and to the guy that hates the phone... Dude I'm really sorry you got a dud.

Alright, so this phone needs some serious consideration. Of Course, this phone probably didn't fly as much as it was promoted, I still guess its promotion was a little weaker than I expected.
I have been using Atrix since its launch. About 8 months and never had any issues with my phone.
Phone durability - Rock Solid, even though you can feel the plastic all around, but the phone is light in weight, and it still is very sturdy. Have dropped it a few times(Of course with a cover on top - so no scratches) but even after those many drops, phone is absolutely fine.
Screen - First qHD display. Truly amazing. I feel it better than iPhone's retina display, trust me when I say it, have used iphone 4 and exchanged it with Atrix.
Call Quality - SubPar. No noise issues. Whenever I receive a call, the person on the other end never complained.
Speakers - Loud and clear enough. Even when I put phone on speaker while driving, it is just clear. Loud enough to fill my car with voice easily.
Biggest Bonus - Unlocked Bootloader. Means, this phone is now free. With lots of Devs now coming up with new ROM's, and CM7 on its way, I have heard that MiUI is also coming to Atrix in near future, it is just an amazing feeling that how much customization is available for the phone, with Devs spending days and hours, it is just truly phenomenal.
Processor - with Dual Core 1GHz processor, this phone has got the raw power to beat up the competition. I feel, phone is fast enough to give solid competition to the upcoming new android variations, upcoming iphone and so on. As someone earlier said, it is a future proof phone, not only because it has got the Dual Core processor, but because it has got Dual Core processor, even today, there are many phones which still get released with 1GHz Single Core, I think for next couple of years 1GHz Dual Core processing speed is safe from getting extinct. Also, the fact that Atrix can now be OverClocked to 1.3GHz, man you should see this phone, just totally flying with that much power.
Camera - As promised by Motorola earlier at the time of launch, with GingerBread, phone will be able to do 1080p, and yes it does it. What else would we need?
Another Bonus - Finger Print Scanner. Just unique by itself. No more words needed to explain what it is.
Last but not Least, Battery - Solid. Usually, I have always seen people be able to get around atleast a day out of the Atrix battery easily. Now with different applications available to help us save the battery, it is even easier to get more out of it.
Webtop Dock etc... - Personally I don't use any other accessories for Atrix, so no idea, but have heard they all are also similarly amazing.
If I missed out on anything, I am pretty sure, I have got something good to say about it, as long as it is related to (M)Atrix.
If you got the phone, you should be happy. If you are thinking of getting one, go for it. If you dislike it, it is your personal choice and I am sure people will respect it.
Cheers!!!
Well Guy's!! I took your suggestion (besides that one guy) and I got the Atrix! Thank you thank you!!! I love this phone already. I have the bootloader unlocked, rooted, clockwork recovery, and the Alien ROM installed. Awesome phone, thanks so much for you help. After having the iPhone and then switching to this phone, there are so many things and so many ways to customize this phone it's insane. I almost don't know where to begin. See ya out on the forums!
I wouldn't have gone with the atrix personally. I had one. Froze a lot, soft rebooted A LOT, screen was not accurate to touch and would become unresponsive at times, not to mention it was SLOW(for being a dual core tegra phone). Like others say though, its mostly personal preference. I may have also had a bad one. I've owned many androids and I personally rate the atrix worse than a poopy aria.... its on the bottom of my list. I got my nexus s now and have never been more pleased.

[Q] My Choppy/Laggy/Buggy Note issues

Ok I got my Gnote yesterday at BestBuy(upgraded from my skyrocket). When I got home to play with it it seemed to drag a$$ and was pretty choppy, almost like it was pushing it limits on memory or something. I restarted the phone but no help. Next I downloaded golauncher thinking it would help but no luck.
I’ve also noticed that whenever I select wallpaper it zooms all the way in on the pic (which looks like crap) and it doesn’t scroll. I’ve tried everything. Help me XDA
I hope there’s a simple fix for all these issues my phone is having. My skyrocket was flawless. Hell my infuse don’t seem too bad now.
Video quality isn’t that great either. What gives Samsung?????
I was able to get better wallpaper using zedge on the market. It doesnt zoom in like selecting from folder.

Actually read other reviews before inferring that all notes have performance comparable to yours - mine is hardcore fast. No lag, no stutters, no nothing but performance. Download some appstore apps to monitor background processes and see if there is a rogue something running. That, or you may have a faulty device.
Coming from an Atrix, SGS2, Skyrocket, Droid Razr, and International Galaxy Note this is the smoothest phone I've ever owned. Only issue I have is getting calendar to sync with Google calendars.

Actually my note is kinda "laggy, sluggish, choppy" as well. I'm kind of a sad man right now, I still LOVE this thing but it's performance is not all that great at the moment for me.
Not entirely sure why either...I tried a few launcher none make it better and some make it worse.

Same here. very dissapointed. Its slower than my infuse, but then my infuse is running a custom rom.
Worst example by far is the market. load it up and scroll up and down, soooo choppy and laggy. starting to think I might have made a mistake not getting the international. I'm really surprized.
I'm sure once I overclock it and toss launcher pro on it I will be happier, I'm just really surprized that I have to do that.

Really strange. I am completely stock right now with all the bloat still installed, microbes live wallpaper, and I just tried this in the market and get no lag whatsoever.
I went to the AT&T store and the Note was laggy. I killed background tasks, eliminated widgets, removed bloatware... nothing
I really like the screen size + google maps navigation but I'm not good at rooting so I've gotta see if this lag stuff continues on stock before taking the plunge.
Hmm :/ I'll take a video of it tomorrow. All power saving options are off, nothing much running in the background. Maybe I should take it into an ATT store and compare it side by side to the ones on display.
I'm glad most others aren't having this problem, that means its something that can get fixed or replaced rather than just being an underpowered processor for the resolution of the screen.
Its a new device with a new processor... Its funny to me how much people are seriously complaining and stressing about "lag". You guys do know the international one had a bunch of "lag" when it came out right? Its a new device that will see updates to its system that help improve UI. **** if you arent willing to get your hands dirty and root/freeze apps/rom the thing, what are you doing on a developers site?? ^Somebody needs to get laid STAT!
I'm absolutely willing to do all of that, and I will, but going from a captivate, to an infuse, to this, and having it be the slowest out of the box when the other two were single core just strikes me as not right. And with others stating that they don't have this issue, makes me think there must be something going on here. Before I mask the problem with the OC kernel and a new launcher I'd rather know that there isn't something wrong with my specific note.
Glad the lag doesn't bother you

Its a new device with a new processor... Its funny to me how much people are seriously complaining and stressing about "lag". You guys do know the international one had a bunch of "lag" when it came out right? Its a new device that will see updates to its system that help improve UI. **** if you arent willing to get your hands dirty and root/freeze apps/rom the thing, what are you doing on a developers site?? Its not the phones problem, its your unreasonable expectations. Ask international note owners from day 1 if they had "lag". How many *****y My PHONE IS LAGGING threads do we need? If you hate it and arent willing to go through the process of improving it yourself, return it and wait a few months.

[Q] LOW performance on Galaxy S3!

Hi,
Is anyone else experiencing this, or does anyone have a solution?
For some reason i'm not expereincing the full thrust of performance the Galaxy S3 has to offer.
The home screens 'jolt' when moving left to right, but the more annoying thing is that widgets (like the weather etc) KEEP disappearing and reloading (doesnt take long to reload, fine, but still! Galaxy S2 didnt do this!)
This was all noticiable in the 'TouchWiz' Launcher, so i thought i would try another launcher... Nope, same thing!! Apex, Launcher Pro, GO Launcher etc..
Also, some apps crash, more than the occasional crash you would experience on the S2.
It also freezes up on my for about 10 seconds before reloading the widgets/icons...
I've gone down SO many routes. Its definetly not that theres too much running, because i find myself closing apps through task manager ALL the time, more than i should need to ...But even with NO apps running, same thing
I just dont get, does anyone have a solution or could shed some light on WHY this is happening? I've hit a brick wall for trying to stop this and am hoping that its not just a 'dodgy device'!
Thank you to whoever responds...
Def sounds like a dud there. Try going into Apex launcher and tick the setting to keep the launcher in ram. Ive heard loads of problems about TW reloading itself after running things like the web browser and gaming :/
Dude just flash custom rom....or latest stock rom.

Shouldn't NEED to be flashing anything, mine was sheer awesome out of the box.
All I've done was flash the insecure kernel... which is the same just adb etc. enabled, and rooted.

Networks do not matter with custom ROMs, as long as you are flashing a ROM for the right phone i.e. the international version, and not the north american version. (which you don't need to worry about yet because it's not out yet)
Check if you have Power Saving turned off. It throttles the CPU making scrolling etc noticeably slower.
Mine loads the weather widget coming out of S-Voice. But other than that never misses a beat. Smooth even when using 90% of its ram.
Did a test of its speed and its above the Asus prime easy, so sounds like you have an issue.

Similar issue with my phone... through I have not yet copied my songs and data... but exactly the similar problem...
same here
Man same thing here - only been 4 days since i bought my gs3 and i'm having issues.. i was running a benchmark when i saw cpu it said 1000MHz and max cycles 1400MHz i think we got a gs3 without exynos system - like they did with galaxy s2 had the i9100G model. Of tjis is the case and i find out i'm gonna spend any ounce of energy i have getting it replaced. The worst thibg is the browser cant handle videos on youtube. Performance is pathetic and weirdest tthibg i didnt have flipboard pre loaded on my gs3. Even now im on my gs3 and the browser wont let me fix "thing" that i wrote in the previous sentence. Totally shud have gotten htc one x
you all can flash latest version which should help with launcher redraw ... and after that do a full hard reset: *2767*3855#

Not having any issues. Suggest you uninstall apps and track down what's causing you pain or take it back. There is nothing wrong with this phone. If you are having slow performance obviously a quad core phone may I suggest an iphone.
Yeah I'm being a prick but common sense and a bit of troubleshooting will teach you a life skill.

This did the trick for me. Also upgrading your firmware would also help.

Same for me
The thing is that a big company that is trying to resemble other competitors cant release a product that will act that way and call it their flag ship.... Most of the owners wont twik it. the phone its a big draw back for me and disappointment... Really miss my s2 some times. Its one thing to pile new features wether they work or not and make the product worse than its predecessor. Big big disappointment. Happy with the screen, battery and looks though will wait for a proper Rom or Google clean products that are to come.

Your S2 has had a years worth of development and optimization. I bet you'll say the same about your S3 when we're all using the S4.
I completely agree with the guy. My most common activity on my phone is browsing whilst listening to music, and this phone just can't hack it. Waaaay too regular cut outs, I'm pissed off.
Remove all bloatware and corresponding background services, get a good kernel (Franco r5 is great), you'll find phone is much better, in a few months, it will have moved on loads and will be so much better
Sent via TCP/IP
Yall are the odd ones out then. my phone was actually VERY VERY good at multi tasking out of the box. i could surf the web, play my music, and watch a movie with super video....and never get redraws, or hickups, leave apps open and keep going......i could not get it to do any lagging unless you speaking of the micro stutter in home screens. which is gone now with a custom rom and a few misc things here and there.
yall seem to keep wanting to blame it on the phone.....i dont quite understand this.

Coming Soon - Jelly Bean! I hope...

Just chatted with AT&T. It's been delayed once already that I know of. How many more times will it get delayed, you think?

O-o Rich Hubbard will be on fire now )
Not surprised at all, they will continue to have excuses and when it does come out it will be the only update we shall see. Glad I like the phone for what it is and am not too worried on the jelly bean switchover...I just want a smooth "bugless" phone which for the most part it is.

Come on Rich Hubbard! Give us more details!
this is why I sent it back even though I loved the phone. there was no reason why the phone should have been released with ICS in the first place. its a beautiful phone but battery was a no no. plus jelly bean should come. by that time key lime pie will be the new kid on the block in the months to come. and I highly doubt LGOG would ever get that. I was completely spoiled with battery from the note 2

Your loss. Considering how well it runs ICS and how little you actually gain with Jellybean, it's not like the phone is somehow inferior without the update. Let's look at what you get:
1) Project Butter - which will make almost no noticeable difference in the way the phone runs
2) Improved notifications - Good
3) Google Now - excellent
That's it, really. Of those, Google Now is the only "must have" for me and I can wait a few months. The phone runs great as is and has lots of excellent customizations by LG that actually make it a better phone than it would be stock. I'm more concerned that they will introduce bugs or remove features with the JB update than anything.
I'm not sure what your issue was with battery, either. Mine has been great.

You don't even have to wait for Google Now if you're willing to flash a ROM that has it. Sure, it's not the latest and greatest version of it, but it works perfectly well

His loss indeed. The way this phone runs out of the box beats any other devices stock to stock. Rooted and debloated it's even better. JB isn't the giant leap that some people are making it out to be imo. I have no problem waiting myself. If I wanted it now I'd flash the Korean port.

Exactly! My worry also - that it will mess something up with a JB update. The phone (for me) is perfect as is & I love it & don't want anything to mess it up. I am getting excellent battery life & for me that can't be improved because the battery life is phenominal for me. In short, the LGOG E970 AT&T version is THE phone for me & I love it & don't want anything to change. If JB comes, I will wait anyway before updating just to make sure that there weren't any problems caused by the update.
why does everyone get so touchy when someone says they returned the LGOG. I was just stating my opinion that's all. I don't know what my deal with battery was either. I could actually sit there while using it and watch it drain. even after conditioning. this was with a complete restore as well. sometimes dropping almost 10% in an hour with hardly doing anything with it. amazon didn't have any left in stock at the time of the return so I opted for a refund. not saying not having jelly bean is the reason for returning it. all I am saying is this phone should have shipped with it. there was no reason not too period. it will prob get it. but I wouldn't hold my breath after that. especially after the pro is released. just my 2 cents

Agree 100%.
Sadly, a lot of everyday users probably have no idea Google maps has navigation, and since I don't think it is stock installed on at&t devices, they never see it.
I had to tell my techchallenged aunt not to use any at&t crap on her phone.
6 months later she got an iPhone and a hotspot plan so she could wirelessly teather after her router acted up.
I had to facepalm because I could have gotten her free teathering on her Android phone.
Slightly related, does anybody know if there is an unlimited dataplan with the hotspot plan? She was adamant she had unlimited even though my understanding is 5 gigs is as high as you can go on a single plan.

Why I actually like the US carriers slow updates

Nobody likes to wait. For anything, really. But especially us phone geeks when it comes to the newest software. It's like pure torture, and it leads to crack flashing and endless tweaking of our devices. Oh the hours lost trying to find the perfect combination of the latest cutting edge Android version and the function we want. There's always an annoying bug like severe battery drain, GPS failure, or poorly calibrated colors & audio. And while we again WAIT for another update to fix it, we flash away. Complaining the entire time about how we have to wait for another update.
But I've come to realize something. I already love my phone. Stock, right out of the box. It works perfectly. Everything I need, with no time wasted on trying to make it "better". Why should I care what number is after the decimal in my Android version? I don't. Because I'd rather wait until they make sure my phone experience won't diminish, that it will only improve when I update it. Maybe it's HTC that made me feel like this with the One. Maybe all the top tier phones are so good now, it doesn't matter if it's a Nexus. Or vanilla Android at all for that matter.
All I know is right now, my phone is perfect. And I'd hate to ruin that just because of a little decimal change in my software bragging rights. I'll wait. Take your time HTC, take your time T-Mobile.
Not to troll here or flame.... But really?

See I just want my sense to have my nice 2 finger pull-down menu from 4.2.2 and WiFi calling. Be nice if they would just add in a bigger app drawer and home screen.
I don't know why you wouldn't like the new updates/ including improved battery life and usability... Also, Wifi calling is only one that I miss the most... other than that, everything else is far superior in terms of speed, battery, and well... everything else.
I agree with what your saying in regards to Roms. I quit using them a while ago and have had a much better and more consistent experience with my stock phone.
As far as the carriers go.....that's all fine and good except that Google releases updates that work immediately so it's clear that you can get updates to work from day 1. That makes me questions the motives behind carriers's relentless "testing" which, as we all know, is their way of getting people to buy new phones.

I returned to stock myself but I wouldn't say I actually enjoy the slow updates. I just don't enjoy custom ROM's as much as I used to. I prefer the genuine stability of what comes from the factory. Although, there are some features (a few actually) that I can't wait to receive with the 4.2 update.
