lumia 920 portico drops signal - Nokia Lumia 920

Hi Just wondering if anyone else has been having this issue.
Phone was working absolutly fine untill the portico update popped up (uk ee). update completed fine and phone restarted.
But since then i have been losing my signal totally, mostly when the phone goes into standby.
The only way to get it back was to restart the phone. I then phoned nokia support who asked me to do a hard reset. My phone then got stuck on the spinning cogs. after a few attempts of trying to soft reset i managed to get the phone to work but still same issue.
so then i phoned ee shop who said they would try flashing latest firmware and if that fails then they will send it away to service centre or replace.
so i decided i'd try flash it myself first using navifirm. Which i did using latest firmware. but still no luck.
so then finally before i take it to store i thought i'd try downgrade firmware and guess what...so far (fingers crossed) still got signal.
dont know if its just my phone but its ceratinly not happy with either the portico update or one of the other updates nokia bundled with it.
just thought i'd share my findings incase anyone else was having this issue.
edit: have just tried flashing a cv gb 1004 portico firmware as i didnt want to miss out on the new features and touchwood all seems to be well so far and no signal drops.

Hey
Yeah same here, upgraded last night all went fine, but today the signal has been up and down like a yoyo, also the battery is almost out !!! normally I would still have 50% left at this time of day, I just checked and I have 22% not great at all.
maybe the upgrade altered some settings ?
I will keep an eye on this for a day or so I think......

Having the exact same problems updated last night. How do I go about flashing back

Same here with my unlocked 920 since the Portico update, so it's not just the EE network. Mind you being as I always get a choppy signal at points maybe I shouldn't be so quick to judge.

FIX
Hi guys I have a fix for this issue, drop the highest connection speed down in your settings from 4G to 3G
Problem solved

im using the gb.cv.1004 rom now and i believe though this has the portico update it does not have the same issues. i can not see an option for 4g in the network settings so this maybe why.
though ill wait untill others confirm this fix before i flash back to ee.1017 rom.

richard i used this guide:

Signal issues (ee) since portico update Lumia 920
Thanks to Maggot82. Received portico update, signal then dropping in and out all over the place. Went into settings/network, changed the defaulted option from 4G as the highest connection speed to 3G and now 5 bars of signal and constant.
Worked for me and certainly a less hassle route to try first before thinking to flash different updates to your phone.
Good job, ta.

I had already done this but this issue seems to have resolved itself anyway.

no trouble guys, your welcome.

My 920 came preinstalled with Portico and I had no problems the first week or so. Since last week I have had two occasions where the phone has either restarted or just reinitialized the radio because it asked for the SIM-pin when I took it out of my pocket. And the days after that I noticed a few occasions where the signal was lost altogether for a minute or so.
My phone was set to 3G max speed from the start.
So, are there some radio-related issues with the Portico ROM? And is it Nokia's firmware or Microsoft's WP8 code?

i think there are some issues with the certain portico firmware. i have reflashed to ee uk 1017 and changed the setting from max 4g to max 3g and that resolved the signal dropping issue (thanks maggot).
however i have noticed that the signal is not as good as the gb.cv.1004 rom. so i dont think its a portico issue, more so that it may be the carrier related firmware updates that are causing issues.

not sure if the update was a full update
My OS version number and Firmware number has not changed since portico! the OS version number that I have is 8.0.9903.10 and the Firmware Revision # is 1232.2110.1244.3011. I know for fact that the Portico's FW version is meant to be 1232.5951.1249.0001 or higher, depending on region/network etc.
My phone has your symptoms, i.e calls drop out and very poor reception at times, plus, heating up massively and subsequently maximum 5-6 hours of battery life!
I have given numerious feedbacks to Nokia, but I guess I have to just go down the route of taking it to them to fix/change! mine was originally from Phones4U in UK (Sim free, which I found out that was locked to EE!), £35 to unlock and now on TescoMobile.
Could you please state your OS and Firmware versions, so we know that we are talking about the same release?

Hi, did you solve this matter? I just installed Portico and the same problem, only 2G is working...
Thanks,

And this friends is what happens when you can't leave well enough alone and have to go to something other than stock. If it is not broken the why fix it?

Signal Loss

I've been having this problem for some time but wasn't entirely sure whether it was my network (O2-UK) or the phone. Basically at random intervals my phone will lose signal, I didn't realise quite how often until I installed No Signal Alert and today for example I've lost signal 5 times, not for any more than 30 seconds each time.
The reason that I think this is a problem with the phone is because I've noticed that if I'm connected to wi-fi that also cuts out at the same time.
Is this something anybody else has come across? It's a non-rooted X10 on R2BA026.
Have been having exactly the same problem for the last few weeks. o2 have had the phone back for repair twice, the 2nd time it was exchanged for a new handset but still seems to be occurring. My brother also has the same phone, network and problem.
Strange that all the problems are occuring on the same network. I originally rooted my phone and upgraded to the newer build, don't know if you're on the normal O2 software?
Would be interesting to know if anybody has had the same problem on a different network.
Same Problem
Hey,
im in Australia, with Optus On SE X10i
and ive had the same issue whether rooted or not, but only since upgrading to 26 software, didnt have this issue on 16, also when i sued to use Advance Task Killer, if i opened the program and killed all apps, then 2of 3 times my signal would go down to NO SERVICE for about 30 seconds and then come back full force.
To me it seems like a potentual software issue that specific to 26 software
I've noticed that when I use a task killer to close the sony ericsson backup app that causes me to lose all signal (network and wi-fi) straight away, but I still lose signal randomly even with that closed. I never noticed it happen before I upgraded to this software either, so you could be onto something there.
How do we go back to previous versions?

getting handset swapped for something different, hopefully that will sort it!

Using omnius, luckily just before it turned to pay to flash licensing.

Well I've just flashed it using the X10 flash/unbrick tool and went incredibly smoothly, now back running 016 and reinstalling all my apps using trusty astro. I'll make sure I keep the no-signal app running and let you know whether this has fixed the problem.

2.1 update in Australia, signal problems?

I updated my Vodafone X10 to 2.1 (2.1 has not been released for my product code yet) and I used global generic.
I noticed that after that I started having problems with signal drops, So I reflashed a few times but still the same.
I'm not saying it's the update for sure, since it could be a problem with my phone, but has anyone experienced this?
PS: I also replaced my sim card, and still have the same problems.

I'm with Optus and not Vodafone but I'm not experiencing anything like this.
im on Optus in Newcastle NSW and signal is good. never drops out but i get the occasional issue sending txt msgs. im on nordic 2.1 still.
Hmmm.
I think it might be my phone.
I downgraded back to 1.6, and although i havent had a any dropout yet, while comparing another nokia phone I have, i seem to get lower signal.
That's only in the hours or so since i downgraded.
I'll keep an eye on it, and report, but probably my phone being dead, and nothing related to 2.1
I have the same problems as well, i live in China.
I have singapore verision updated to 2.1, and then i always lose signal, i cannot make any phone call or people are quite difficult to call me.. this happen randomly
I flashed to global 2.1 when it 1st came out and experienced the same signal dropout that your talking about. My data signal kept dropping out and coming back. Got annoying. Eventually flashed to Optus 2.1 and everything is perfect. It's the global firmware, not your phone.
Try change your build.prop codes to the Optus au codes and see if you can use that firmware for Vodafone. Just root and delete all things Optus zoo

I have this problem in Newcastle, too. I've found 'reregistering' my phone on the network fixes it.

I too have just upgraded my X10 to 2.1 Generic. Im with 3 and have had poor signal for about 18 months (since Vodafone bought into 3). Since doing the upgrade, I now have HSDPA connections and the signal strength and quality of calls has greatly improved.
I am a optus user. After i upgraded the firmware to 2.1, my wifi just stops working. When i turn wifi function on, there is wifi logo appearing on the top of the screen and never detects any wifi access point. Anyone knows what is going on? Is that a bug of 2.1? as wifi was working fine with 1.6
IM from south Africa,on Vodacom/vodaphone and have the same issue with connection dropping on data, but found that it seems to be a tower problem or network problem rather than a phone problem,at home i have no issues like this but in far out towns with graham bell old technology in the towers the issue happens alot.

Keep losing data connection.

I have an unlocked unrooted S3 on Vodafone UK. This issue has been happening for the last few days whereby i have full 3G/H+ connection, but absolutely no data is working. No email, no websites loading, no whatsapp, nothing. The issue goes away as soon as I restart my phone, but then it comes back after a few hours.
Has anyone experienced this, and if so, how have you fixed it?
Go back to your network/phone provider .
Or flash different modem .
jje
I am having this issue too. I may be wrong, but i realise this happens if i turn off my Wifi, the 3G will not want to connect to the 3G network.. Anyone else having such problem?
By the way mine is International version (Location: Singapore)
I'm having a similar problem where I have a good 3G/H/H+ connection but data seems to drop intermittently across all applications - I get the same sort of error message in browsers/facebook/twitter that you receive when you have no signal.
Anyone have anything similar and know of any fix?
I am not having such issue so far. I been updating my SGS3 using over-the-air update. I guess the MODEM has been updated as well.
Go to market and download "fast dormancy"(by gorkhanmoral) then disable it and reboot.
Check if your speed has improved,if it got worse then enable it again.
U need ROOT to use this tool.
I it didn't help, then flash a different modem
This is good modem
Cwm flashable

have you got any battery saving app like juice defender installed in your phone?
Is mobile data working at all? or is it constantly "uploading" but never "downloading" (up arrow lights but not down).
If what I just described is your issue then this is a network issue relating to android in general.
Basically your phone will be connected to two radio towers and gets confused as to which one it should use, rebooting or flight mode may help force it onto one tower or you may have to speak to your carriers "high network technical team" or whatever they are called for you to get them to force it onto one tower.
I had this issue on the HTC hero (a long time ago now) and it took 9 months for Orange UK to work out what was going on.

Congrats. Orange Luxembourg (my gf's network provider) still hasn't got a clue.. But they seem rather clueless about everything except writing invoices.
Flashing an Asian modem on her S2 made the issue far less prominent since they seem not to get confused by antenna ping-pong. (Tango Luxembourg, my carrier, has this issue too in the main city)

To all who experience(d) satbility issues after flashing their RM-821 to Portico

Since I read that a lot of you guys have or had major stability and battery usage issues after flashing your international version (RM-821) Lumia 920 to one of the Portico ROMs I was wondering what might be causing those issues.
First I thought this might just be a few ppl with "bad luck" who had those Portico problems but then when I read more and more ppl posting about it and some even saying that they had so much issues with Portico that they flashed their phones back to a non-Portico ROM that made me really curious.
I was probably one of the first who flashed a Portico ROM to my RM-821 a few weeks ago. The reason I did it was because with the old ROM I had the issue that I couldn't access any files on my phone from my computer when it was connected via USB plus I read that Portico significantly improves the camera and I was about to spend a few days in London where I was planning to take lots of pics that was a reason too.
Since when I flashed my phone on December 21th there were not many different Portico ROM around to choose from and since I didn't want an EU one because of the volume capping I picked the one for Entel Chile:
White Entel PCS (059R6J2) 1232.5951.1249.1001
I'm using my Lumia with that ROM since then and I'm pretty happy with it so far.
I had not a single reboot/crash/hang, I took tons of pretty good pictures in London, 3G & HSDPA data is working perfectly on Vodafone Germany as well as on Vodafone UK (using a local PayG SIM card) and pretty much everything else is working fine too.
The only issue I have is that sometimes Nokia Drive and Nokia Maps seem to be unable to acquire a GPS signal but so far shutting down the phone and switching it on again always did the trick. I never had this issue with the non-Portico ROM but as I said other than that Portico is working perfectly for me and I take that tiny GPS problem over that super annoying unable to access any files via USB problem I had with the old ROM anytime.
So I was wondering what might be the reason that my phone is working so good with Portico while so many of you guys have so many issues with it. And so I came up with the following:
After flashing my Lumia with the Portico ROM I was originally planning to restore the "app list + setting" from the cloud but I didn't sign in to my Microsoft account during that "Welcome To Windows Phone Wizard" that comes up right when the phone starts for the first time after flashing it to a new ROM and when I tried to restore those setting using the "back, app list + settings" from the settings menu later it didn't show any backup that could be restored.
So I had to set up all my apps and setting manually again - I was quite unhappy about this back then because it took me almost two days to get everything back to how it was before flashing to Portico but now I think that this might actually be what saved me from all the issues so many of you guys have with Portico.
I think that when a phone is updated to Portico using OTA like it's supposed to be done this might also includes migrating any settings backed up on the cloud to Portico before then importing those migrated settings.
However when we flash a phone to a Portico ROM manually the step of migrating settings backups on the cloud to Portico is probably skipped.
And I assume that importing those unmigrated pre-Portico settings to a Portico ROM might cause lots of the issues that many of you guys experience.
So I'm wondering has anybody else flashed their RM-821 to Portico without restoring any setting backups from the cloud and if so do you have any issues with Portico so far?
p.s. please note that this theory is just something I came up with while wondering what might be the difference between my phone and the ones of all of you guys who reported all those issues - I have NO proof, facts or anything like that to back up this theory so please don't rip me into peaces if this turns out to be total BS
Interesting.
I flashed Portico without using any backup services and I haven't had a single issue with the device (RM-821).
I back uped my phone before flashing my phone using the settings menu on the phone, then flashed EE portico, not had one crash since.
Interesting would be if anyone having issues with portico factory reset their phone and start it without choosing the option to restore the backup, and then just install everything manually.
anyone with issues may try this and report back??
Hi
My only issue so far with portico is that when I connect Bt with the car I get sometimes lockups so I have to softreset.
I didn't have this issue before portico.
I did flash with Nokia care, my phone is a unlocked cv-Fr. I restore from the cloud. So I will try a hard reset and install all apps without using the cloud restore.

EE Portico and Bluetooth
Hi all
Flashed my EE UK Lumia 920 to Portico via Nokia Care Suite. I did a manual restore (except for text messages) and have not had any problems since.
For those having Bluetooth lock-ups, just turn off the other Bluetooth device and the phone should become responsive again.
God bless

i too flashed my phone to Portico a few weeks back. Much like your situation, I too could not find the official Portico for my country (Thailand), so I flashed a Hong Kong ROM. after flashing, i chose to automatically restore all the previous installed apps (about 150 apps in total). Its been three weeks and i've not had any problems with the phone yet. It did however restart once on its own while i was trying to attach a pic on whatsapp. But it never happened again since then. And whatsapp works fine too. So I dont think its some settings carried forth from backup/restore thats causing the issue. I have had this live id forever and i've used three windows phones with many custom roms and such with the same ID - HTC HD7, Nokia Lumia 900 and then Nokia Lumia 920. The restore function after flashing portico even restored some apps i had used on my HD7 and had not used since i switched to Nokia. Inspite of old apps and settings being restored, i hardly faced any problems with Portico. The root cause of issues faced by people who flash Portico ROMs could be a combination of settings/apps being restored and something else, but not the restore function alone. - atleast thats what i think.
I have flash my Lumia 920 to Portico (1232.5951.1249.1001) four days ago and I have problems yet :
- black screen (hardreset needed)
- reboot
Good work microsoft
I flashed over a week ago with my operators portico ROM (Telenor NO(rway)) (The ones that are now pulled).
Just started it and added all the accounts (no restore from backup) and the phone is unstable as ****. Reboots at least twice a day.
Pros however is that the camera takes nice pictures in daylight and the bluetooth connection to my Volvo works now. :good:

I've flashed mine to the EE 1232.5951.1249.1017
Personally for me so far the phone hasn't crashed once (a huge improvement from crashing almost daily!) can't comment on picture or bluetooth as haven't used it much (and never used bluetooth).
One thing I have noticed that may be relivant to you tho, if the battery dies, it turns itself off, it doesn't turn back on until phone reaches 20% charge, at first I thought it crashed when the battery went low as turning it on just shows the charging screen then it goes back off with the screen staying powered but black.
takes around half hour to come back on using the charger that came with the phone, takes well over an hour using a cheap unbranded one i have laying around.
Before the update once you plugged it in the charger when the battery was low it would turn on after around a minute
Also I used the backup and txt messages, not all txt messages seem to of been restored, but seems solid for me, done a friends 920 as well, same experiance as me. He mentioned photos and videos are better now, but hasn't said anything about the low battery thing
I flashed my phone manually via ncs, without downloading the firmware with navifirm. Ncs automatically searched the firmware for my phone (yellow german one) and flashed it. I`ve got no issues with this Portico update, everything is working fine, no reboots er something else, good batterylife.

[Q] 3G not working

Hi there.
I have Lumia 920 Black on EE in UK.
Last month when Amber (french one) got leaked, I installed it and tried straight away.
It wasn't big difference to me in fact it had a bug where if I create an all day calendar entry using google account (not tried with Live account),
it will save the even entry as day before?
It bugged me so much so I decided I will install EURO Dev version.
So I did and everything seem to work fine untill I go outside my house.
I kept on getting no signals. And when I had signal it was constantly on EDGE. Never on 3G.
I did reflash and restart and all it doesn't seem to help. When I restart the phone I get 3G briefly for seconds until it loses service totally then come back with full EDGE signal.
I have found a old firmware RM821_1232.2109.1242.1010_RETAIL_eu_euro1_342_10_97021 and flashed it. And did update through OTA.
Still no 3G. I called EE today for help. They told me it could be the sim.
So I tried on my old iPhone 4 and its all good. I get full 3G.
Anyone know what may be the problem? And if EE offers a repair, will they found out that I've playing with flashing the device and tell me its not covered by the warranty?
Thanks you all!

I know the issue exist on the ATT Dev Rom, you just have to go into the Access Point app in the settings and pick the correct APN, (the flash defaults it to the wrong one. ) but I don't know if that's the case for the EE version. I suppose is possible, it can, and is suppose to load, the APN from the Sim, so if it worked with the iphone sim then check those settings.
Thanks for you reply. Did what you said but it did not help at all. It's not like my data isn't working. It's just on EDGE all the time. Sometimes I don't even get calls through and later get message from EE saying I had a miss call. Called Orange (runs on EE) about it and they said maybe its my sim. So tried it on my iPhone and I get 3G straight away. Need to ring them again. But their call waiting time is ridiculous. Called them yesterday and call queue was 2 hours!!
