I really don't recall dropping my evo 3d, maybe ive done it once or twice. But I am on Dirt Jelly Bean V 3.5.2 Rom and I have an extended battery (3500MHZ) Well occasionally , the touch screen can be un-responsive to icons / apps/ or settings that are more in the middle of the phone. Like if i go to settings and go something in the middle, it will highlight the above or below setting which is not what i wanted to chose. in order to select that setting, i have to rotate my phone to landscape and it will be clickable. Also occasionally i will get the possessed evo, where if you turn it on it will random click apps and on home screen randomly move left to right to left to right. i have to turn screen off and literally hit the phone to get it back to normal. Part of me says get a new phone but i am holding out til my upgrade in april
I had that happen quite recently (last week). It started off randomly doing something similar every now and then. Finally one day I had to keep turning off and on my phone just to be able to use the screen for about 5 seconds.
Conclusion: Bad screen.
I took mine into the Sprint store (i have the insurance). They took it right away and replaced the screen within 30 minutes. No charge to me, and it has been working like new since.
I would suggest backing up your rom and flashing to another to see if that helps (mine would press things while in touch recoveries, so i knew it was fubar). Try putting in the original battery because i have heard batteries can do weird things. But most likely you have a bad screen. There are videos on how to replace and i'm sure eBay has some for cheap.
Good luck

^^^ This is probably the case. It's a well documented problem with these phones, and one that I experience myself to a lesser degree. One thing NinjaPenguin didn't mention and is often overlooked is; make sure your screen is clean. I know it sounds silly, maybe even obvious, but a dirty screen can also cause phantom and misaligned button presses.

Sorry to sound a bit down. It's just that after 6 weeks of increasing hell with my Hero, sorry, Halfwit, I'm really, really missing my Touch Pro2.
1. Phantom Screen Flipping: No one knows the solution to this problem. My home screen now constantly flips to the right. In fact, any screen with an option causes erratic flipping (contact screen, email screen, menu screen etc). It's worse than a landed fish.
2. Random Battery Draining: Usually my Halfwit lasts a full day. Sometimes, though it drains within an hour, for no apparent reason.
3. Ringtone Madness: A couple of days ago I took a call. The call was instantly dropped. But the ringtone kept going. And going. And going.
4. Dropped Calls: probably 3 in 10 calls are dropped, either coming in and going out.
And just to be a little unfair, (but I feel justified): Sense. I've given up switching between "Home", "Office", "Travel", and so on. I could make breakfast in the time it takes to change.
Like I say, I know the entire Universe has had an excellent experience with the Halfwit, so before I return it, can anyone suggest a reasonably polite solution?
You could try flashing the new rom (again) to make sure that process went well.
If the problems consist send it back to htc cos it's not normal to have all these problems.
Yes, to have some many of these non standard issues at the same time, you must have a faulty unit.
I have never heard of a Hero behaving like that. Send it back and get a new one!

Take that thing back and get one that works! That stinks you've had so many problems, definitely not normal or acceptable. It's a great phone, sounds like you got a lemon.
Sounds like a software malfunction or maybe your device could have liquid damage in it.. Not sure though, you should take it back to the store!
This seems to be more of a software issue than a hardware issue. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the kernel as well but I'm not sure...
Anyway the touchscreen on my rooted Evo 3D with hboot 1.50 is acting up. Sometimes it completely freezes up, and other times when I try and press different parts of the screen, like the the app drawer it just doesn't register. When it freezes up it also affects the soft buttons at the bottom of the phone.
I've tried wiping it several times, and I've also tried this across several different roms, even nandroids, and it is still causing problems.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Try calibrating your screen threw settings to see if that helps.

I had that thought too but it still didn't work. I should also mention that the only way to "fix" the screen temporarily is to hit the power button and then hit it again to wake it back up. It usually does the trick... for a little bit. Also sometimes it just goes berserk and start pressing things without me even touching the screen
Are you running any kind of lockscreen program such as widgetlocker? I had similar problems when doing so, all issues stopped when I uninstalled.

I wish I was so I could fix it but I'm not.
Sorry man, was stabbin in the dark. good luck.
Think it's the Digitizer...
I have the same problem with an Evo3D hboot 1.5 also. It is rooted (ship s-on) I've had the phone for about 4 months, taken good care of it, and thus thought this bug was a software issue as well...
This is what I've tried:
-Factory Data Reset
-Restore Backup partition to original ROM
-Tried different ROMs (sense3.0, olympian xe, sicksense vX)
-Deleted and reformatted SD card
-Leaving SD card unmounted
It seems to be a popular issue, and after searching the CDMA Development forums I have found at least two other threads on the same topic here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398048
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383707
I don't have insurance, and rooting hboot1.5 is not reversible, for it is permanently recorded on the bootloader, so I'm assuming that my local Sprint representative will be of little help in the matter. From what I can find it would seem that our options are limited to:
A.) Replacing the Digitizer/LCD assembly. Looks like this runs between $70-$120. Here is a solid video on YouTube demonstrating how to remove and replace the Digitizer/LCD:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suS34kNNuLo
B.) Replace the Digitizer only. From what I've gathered this is a risky maneuver which is best left to professionals with the *right* equipment, however is a much cheaper option, Digitizers are around $20.
I left a message with a local cell repair shop asking if they could replace the digitizer without a new LCD, and expect a response tomorrow probably.
Unless anybody has found an alternate cause/solution to this problem, which I would be eternally grateful for, looks like hardware replacement is the only solution.
2 questions one are you guys using screen protectors some of them will cause issues crazy ones from random clicking to unresponsive screen . Also are you using your phone out in the cold weather or really humid out ? A cold screen and hot hands will also wig it out.
I have a Zagg screen protector, which Radioshack carries for numerous phones; however it was installed when I bought the phone, four months ago, therefore I cannot imagine it would suddenly be the problem.
Also, the screen glitches at room temperature, at the most unfortunate times.
I just flashed Timat Kernels, with no results....

I have a zagg on mine I put on no issues for me. How do you carry your phone ? Do you tote it around in your back pocket? Just curious. Some folks have squished there phone sitting on them and messed up the screens. Not sayin you did that . Also folks carry in pocket on hot summer days and sweat gets inside the unit and messes with it.
Also is your phone brand new or a refurbished unit?
The phone is a new unit and I try to be conscious of high-moisture situations, so hopefully that is not to blame. If anything, excessive pressure may have been the cause, from a vacuum-sealed Drycase; but I'm hoping HTC's build quality would withstand such force, which should be minimal compared to being sat on.
Others are experiencing issues with the E3D digitizer, and I'm 90% sure my phone is not misbehaving from physical/moisture damage.
Is there a moisture damage indicator that can confirm/dismiss that theory?
Thanks for the suggestions

Check the battery it has a sticker that will turn a solid color if it seen some water or high humidity. Also I think there is one inside the phone.
I have in the pass seen evo's that were refurbs or new units that were sat on the refurbs glass wasn't glued well and moisture got under the glass and screwed the screen up with random issues. New phones can have the same issues I guess if you really put pressure to it tho there sealed pretty well.
If the Digitizer was going bad from pressure your screen would have faint black lines going down it kinda like graph paper.
I have my phone in a trident kraken case it's been doing good so far.
After hours of research, countless nandroid wipes, and even a few ROMs, I have determined this to be a hardware issue! (at least in my case)
Much thanks to Landon4444 for providing a way to test for a lame digitizer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20791773&postcount=40Here's how to check if this issue is result of a faulty/worn digitizer:
In the phone dial exactly *#*#3424#*#* to access the HTC diagnostic menu.
Choose line test from available options, screen will turn black.
Draw small test squiggle.
Hold phone by corners with fingers/thumbs (landscape).
Gently, twist phone torsional-ly. *GENTLY!*
In my case, certain slight torque creates a false contact in the upper-middle of my screen. Fortunately twisting slightly in the opposite direction HAS RESOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR NOW. (that was easy) However, I would not expect this tactic to work for long, and am looking into getting the digitizer replaced at the cell shop.
Evo 3d help guys!!
Okay so I just got a raise and an Evo 3D part of my boss's incentive package. (I know I have a great boss!!) but anyway its been less than a month and I haven't purchased any of the screen protector stuff or case. It is now 17 degrees in New York and I'll just drop the phone in my pocket while walking but yesterday at the beginning of a date the parking meter wouldn't take my money and upon trying to use my phone it started dialing it's own numbers and wouldn't let me enter any of the numbers for my code (to unlock). *Mind you my date kept telling me all night "Its a sign that you need the iphone" and I totally like the HTC 3D.I tried calibrating **BY THE WAY IT'S NOT ROOTED YETTT* but the only options your given is the GSensor Calibration. I've noticed that after I enter a warm area the phone starts working fine again. I've never had a smartphone and I think, upon finally getting one, that's it's totally ridiculous that the phone stops working because of the weather. At this point I think I have a faulty phone and am gonna return it to only get another 3D,but has anyone heard of this issue and if so how can I fix it. I mean like what if I had a car accident or an emergency and my "smartphone" starts acting up because of the weather???
Hey guys...I put this post up a few days ago and still haven't received a response. my timing to retunr the phone is running short so I NEED SOMEONE TO HELP PLEASE!!...Is this a normal circumstance that my phone is going through? if not I'll return it and get another one.
Its some grounding issue occuring due to maybe screen touching the main board. Its occurs on my phone very frequently and when normal occurs only if i press hard on screen
my phone also freezes up sometimes and goes crazy and it takes it some time for it to start working....
I ended up replacing the unit.it was faulty. Funny thing is I was trying to tell the guy the problem and when he grabbed it he saw it was broken.the problem worsened to the point the the phone was dialing on its own and going haywire.

So my phone has been working fine for a week and I've never had issues like this before on any android phone. I got the Trident Aegis case for my Evo 3D today and I gotta say it's awesome. However, it came with a screen protector. I applied it and decided I didn't want to keep it on there so I took it off. Ever since then my phone has randomly been acting up.
When I click the power button, the clock in the middle rotates back and forth as if I were clicking the screen, and proceeds to tell me to Pull the ring to unlock. Sometimes it'll just keep doing this even though my fingers are no where near the screen. I was going into texts and sending a message to my girlfriend and the typing worked fine, but I started to delete a word I mistyped and it acted as if I was holding down the delete button and deleted my entire message. I later tried to click send and it kept clicking on attachments.
When I was in the messages menu it was acting as if I was instantly holding down a contact and deleting threads. I'm so confused as to whats going on. I will not that this isn't consistent and for now it has calmed down. (scratch that the send thing is still happening. I can type the entire message perfectly and anywhere I click responds, but not send.) I suspect it has to have something to do with the screen protector I removed (just a static one) or the case itself, even though that doesn't make very much sense. Should I take it into Sprint if it starts happening again? Maybe just do factory reset?
UPDATE: They replaced my hboot 1.5 phone and for the hell of it I decided to check HBOOT version. The one I got came with HBOOT 1.40.0000, Jun 8, 2011.
I am ecstatic!
All I know is HBOOT 1.5 stuff though, so WAT DO.
Your digitizer is going out. A lot of people had that issue or are having it. That's how mine was and it just gradually got to a point where I couldn't use the phone. RIP.

Yup, this seems the case. Luckily I decided not to root my device just before this happened. I'm really not sure what caused it, but it's definitely not the case. After playing around in a painting program i found there's just a half-inch line that cannot be touched horizontally across the screen.
With insurance and the fact I bought it a week ago, they have to replace it.
SO
They replaced my phone after trying to tell me it was gonna be fixed and I said NO, I bought this 9 days ago give me a brand new one. So they did and it came with HBOOT 1.4 SUP
At least they replaced yours. I took mine in but of course when I take it in the screen works fine. When I leave it starts to act up...

Try to determine the exact problem of it. Use a paint app and just tap dots across the entire screen, not lines.
Well I'm on my second EVO. My first one the screen seemed very vibrant, this one, not so much. I don't know if it's just me. My current one also has the light leak from the home button which bothers me when I see it but don't notice it otherwise. The last issue is rebooting or shutting off. I go commando with my evo (no case) as you know it's a slippery phone. My first evo fell a couple of times form about 3-4 feet, no biggie. I notice with this phone that everytime it gets hit a bit hard it turns off and you have to reboot it to start up again (power + volume down). Yesterday it slipped out of my hand while I was sitting at my desk and it must of fallen about 10-12 inches. Of course this is a refurbished phone.

Great insight, tell me more. Why even waste the time to post this?
you are right, ill tell you what you want to know.
" the phone probably has a loose cable inside of it, and should be replaced. you can either show a sprint rep in store by banging it hard on your hand or calling the insurance and telling them its a faulty replacement, i had a similar issue with a display that would flicker in and out at times as if it was off. "
Thank you for your reply. Maybe I worded my question weirdly. I was just asking if the issues that I stated would be enough for you to go exchange the phone. I know I can get a new one, no big deal. Everyone is a bit different on their tolerance of issues.
When you go in pick the weakest or dumbest looking rep and be forceful about what you want. tell them you KNOW the problem and it shouldnt be happening. i got my phone replaced recently due to a graphic flicker when playing games. they didnt want to exchange it at first but i won in the end. because i KNOW cellphones and how they should work
Did you get a new phone or a refurbished phone? I know the reps at the Sprint store by my house, they'll give me a new (to me, but still refurbished) phone. Just wondering if it's even worth it since my issues are minimal.
I was so happy with my first Sony Z2, I decided I wanted a second one and bought me the 32GB version a few weeks back and gave my old 16GB one to my wife. I have been using my new tablet abit lately, but I get periodic issues with the touchscreen. Most of the time everything working fine, but then suddenly the screen will only respond to very hard touches, and something like picking up a icon and moving it on the screen is impossible. If I try to press and move it, sometimes it will open the program, and sometimes you can see I'm picking up the icon but it looks like im dropping the second I pick it up. Then 5 minutes later I can pick up the icon and move it around on the screen no problem.
I'm not sure what to do since it's very random. I'm not sure if I should bring it back to the shop, or do a factory reset first. It's very random, and often only last a few minutes before the effect is gone, but when it's bad it's almost impossible to do something like typing. Anyone else with issues?
I think there was a screen diagnostic menu somewhere, anyone recall where this was?

I made a short video showing the issues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgi75O2mqak&feature=youtu.be

If It's possible for you get a refund and buy another tablet.
I have it since may and it's definitely my last Sony product.
Indeed I should, noticed after reading this that my tablet is indeed bent as well... So back it goes then!
I also have a 16GB version, and I have zero issues with that, been a very good tablet for me but the 16GB size is very limiting.
