I have been watching and looking for a fix to the problem seening and joining an Ad-Hoc WiFi network using the Galaxy S3. Does anyone have any news about this. I do not see any new information?
I know there are some tethering work arounds but so far I have not found a fix.
The use case I am looking for will allow me to connect to the Brookstone Rover. This can be readily done with an iPhone as the rover sets up an Ad-Hoc WiFi network. This is totally invisible to the S3.
Thanks in advance for any leads

So far nothing on the Play Store works on my S3. One notably required me to reflash to recover.

Hi,
Just a question that I can't find an answer to anywhere, does anyone else experience the following.
When I enable tethering or wireless hotspot the other device/s that connect get internet access, but my phone has no internet access itself, so I don't get email and can't use internet reliant apps at the same time. As soon as I enable tethering/wireless hotspot the phone has no internet access.
The main reason I ask this and don't think it is meant to happen is because a friend of mine has a Galaxy SII and he can use the internet on his device whilst other devices are tethered.
Does anyone else experience this, does anyone know of a solution if it is not support to do this.
Cheers
Jon
It works on my device. What rom are you using?
If you're using CM10 or a kang of CM10 tethering doesn't work buddy....

Imho
I have heard of T-mobile charging extras for thetering but your situation seems different. Hopefully someone will help you otherwise try searching "T-mobile thetering" or such on your device's forum and try to make an idea of what's going on. good luck.
edited...i didn't read "UK" and directed you to the US T-mobile forum....

maybe its android has some bugs for that... in my device here , if i turnon the hotspot / tether it does perfectly,
I’m trying to find the best app to tether my tablet. I’ve got an ASUS Transformer Prime and it’s WiFi only, no 3G/4G so I’m trying to find the best way to share my internets from my Samsung Galaxy SII. I found this great app called FoxFi but for some reason I can’t just turn my phone into a hotspot and use my Transformer to connect via WiFi. I have to use a companion app on my tablet called PdaNet Tablet and it connect via Bluetooth! I don’t understand how it works, but it is very cool. The only downside is I can only seem to browse the web with connection. If I try to use the mail app or even access the Google Play store, it won’t connect. The only thing it will let me do is surf the net. Long story short, there’s a ton of apps out there, and without wasting my money trying them all I was hoping I could get some feedback here from people who’ve used apps with better success. Any input is welcome, thanks!

Hi.
Searched everywhere, couldn't find anything.
Maybe you Gurus here could help out.
How could I use the wi-fi direct functions on an aokp milestone1 rom?
Neither stream music, and movies to my TV, nor sending files via wi-fi direct. doesn't work for me.
...There's an wi-fi direct option in WLAN Settings. But doesn't show anything.
Thx for your help.

Too bad.
If someone tell's us 'it's not working' would be good, so we can stop searching.

Hey guys I found this link and thought it may at least give you some closure(or hope) on the wifi direct issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889145 (scroll down to Idan73's post)
I've been searching for a couple days myself but I guess it's just disabled currently in CM10 and AOKP roms. Wifi direct is an overlooked feature but I find it to be very useful; much better than bluetooth(like 1000x better). Hopefully it should be implemented soon after devs figure out how, though I won't hold my breath. I'm using JellyBam rom atm and it's the only thing missing in my opinion
Edit:
If you want a similar functioning app that is just as good as wifi direct(acts almost the exact same way), you could try this :https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floriandraschbacher.fastfiletransfer&hl=en
The app uses WiFi Tethering to establish a connection between two devices without internet, so effectively it acts just like WiFi direct and is probably the best alternative we'll get. Works on older phones too such as the galaxy S and the receiving phone doesn't need the app installed to receive the file, which is a plus and makes it better than wifi direct in that regard. Gave it a 5 star rating on the play store in the hopes that app development is continued and the app is not abandoned. Just found out about it otherwise I would have linked it earlier (google searches save lives lol). Hope it's helpful to you guys.
Thanks for your words.
Tried out a lot of things.
But now I'm back on my own cooked deodexed stock rom
Wifi direct work fine on AOKP, but only with this app here. For me, work fine on Galaxy s1 + Galaxy s2, both running Rom ICS AOKP M6.
Or, you can use this excellent app here, which is as wifi direct but without wifi direct.
If i helped, please press my thanks button.
Hi there!
I pump an ad-hoc WiFi signal from my office PC's network adapter, which works fine with my other devices. I would like to connect my Verizon Galaxy Note 2 to this hotspot but as we all know there is no native ad-hoc support.
What would be the easiest way to accomplish this? An app similar to the WiFi manager on the Archos 101?
My phone is rooted, rom Beans 4.1.2, unlocked bootloader, w/ Perseus kernel
And I realize this question has been asked before but so far I have not searched up the right answer, plus I can't freakin' post anywhere before I get to 10 posts lol. Long time visitor but now that I actually own my own Android device rather than just working on others, I figured I'd finally make an account.
Thanks in advance for the help
3rd Party Temp Workaround
Hey Guys,
So no responses eh? Anyway obviously I wasn't about to give up on my searching, but so far I have only had success with Connectify.
Its a third party application that shares your wired internet connection with your wifi adapter and pumps the signal. Basically it does exactly what ad-hoc is for but it can be seen by Android devices.
I am using the Lite version not the Pro and it has been working fine. But don't get me wrong I STILL WANT TO ENABLE AD-HOC. I am still searching for a way to do this but in the meantime I figured I'd post this info in case anybody else is still trying to do this as I am. I Googled earlier and the second listing that came up was this Q&A thread I posted, so I figured if somebody else Googled the same thing and came to this thread I didn't want them to leave empty-handed.
So if anybody has any info on how to make ad-hoc networks visible on the Note 2 please let me know, but until then using Connectify can have you set up and saving 4G data in a few minutes.
I can't speak to using this on the note, but I used adhoc switcher from the play store on an early lenovo tablet that for some reason could only tether to a phone as adhoc. The app had a ton of settings so I am betting you could make it work in this situation.

I don't know about this feature of turning our android device into Wi-Fi repeater until I come across this app Fqrouter2 and the sad part is, it's not working currently I don't know the reason, it's even pulled down from the Play Store. Is there anyone in development interested in making such app or already trying? I searched the internet and couldn't find a similar app like this, it has other features as well but Wi-Fi repeater/extender caught my eye. If anyone can come up with only Wi-Fi repeater/extender feature app, that would be great. Thanks.

AFAIK most devices/wifi chips can use either AP mode (WiFi Hotspot) or connect to an existing WiFi. I guess it just works with some devices/WiFi chipsets.

Even I was under this impression for long time. I got to know with this App you can use Wi-Fi and Extender(Hotspot) simultaneously.
Edit: It works only on rooted devices, I can install the app but unable to execute it on both Marshmallow and Kitkat.
I wish there is one. Wifi extender/repeater is a catching feature

Try netshare-no-root-tethering on Google Play, tested and works on my Marshmallow device. You connect to a wi-fi, turn on the netshare app, and it creates another wifi network like mobile hotspot that other devices can connect to.
So does FQrouter2 still work on Android 4.2.2? Or did it require ancient versions of Android to work?

As far as I can tell, this is the only working app. Tested on AOSP Marshmallow Galaxy S4 - I took my sim card out to make sure it wasn't using mobile data, and it works! Shares your WiFi as another network. Unfortunately the app is ugly as all hell and doesn't let you change the name or password of the hotspot. Plus it requires you to use some dodgy proxy thing so it's not quite as good as fqrouter used to be. Anyone know of any other apps?
EDIT: also doesn't seem to play well with HTTPS

Hey mate! Do you have apk of the pro version of this app? Thanks.
Alternative
By the way, i found this similar app in Playstore which is completely free. ) See attached.
It still requires a proxy to be able to connect the devices.
Unfortunately, I need an app that will repeat wifi without the need for a proxy, as the device I want to use it on has no options to enter proxy.
