Rezound not talking to/recognized by any PC? - HTC Rezound

I purchased a Rezound for my son off of ebay with no SIM. He just needs it for wi-fi usage, playing games and Mp3s. I wanted to start messing with it and downloaded the Rezound toolkit 3.1. I used it to install the HTC drivers.
When I plug the phone into the PC the phone recognizes that it is plugged in because the LED turns on and it starts charging. Sometimes it even asks me what type of connection I want to use.
However, and I've tried this on both my PC's, the PC just sits there like nothing was ever plugged in.
Could this be because it has no SIM? Could this be because I have installed drivers for other android devices on my PC's (I have two different tablets and 4 different kinds of phones)
Could this be a setting on the phone?
I have tried two different cables, the funky looking cable that came with the phone and my regular miniusb that goes in all my other devices (except for the transformer prime).
Its never picked up by the PC that anything was ever plugged in. My other devices come right up.

Make sure you select disk drive when it comes up and asks what kind of connection you want. if you are on charge only, it wont do anything on the pc.

Let me guess, ur running Windows 8? If you completely uninstall the drivers and HTC Sync stuff then you *SHOULD* be able to reinstall in compatibility mode (choose Win7). People say this works...never worked for me.
My fix was to use my old laptop which runs Win XP.

I'm sorry I should have said one computer is vista and the other is 7.
I have an old XP box I could set up again and try.I'll do that tonight but I'm not hopeful.

Worth a shot but it should work on either Vista or Win7 though.

HTC Sync's driver for ADB worked for Win 8.1 but not fastboot?
I can get adb recognized in normal and recovery --
adb.exe responds with the serial.
fastboot.exe doesn't see the phone?
Windows has an exclamation mark,
it seems to know something is there
just not sure what it is ?
,
Windows 8.1 says the driver is the most current.
Anyone have a win 8 compatible driver?

I setup a virtualbox win7 under win8
I tried installing the htc sync installer for its drivers, but win7 under win8
fails to recognize the device. Win7 reports a composite device driver
did not install correctly with ! over the device.
Where can I get a full set of win7 drivers for Rezound to support
normal, recovery and fastboot modes (in the VM)?

Had to really install Win7 to get fastboot recognised
I installed Win7Pro on my laptop's second hdd and ran the HTC Sync
installer to get the drivers installed then canceled out of the actual install.
After that adb saw both the OS boot and the recovery boot
(got the serial numbers back from devices) and after
adb reboot bootloader, fastboot found the device.
it looks like win8 just doesn't have a drivers for the
rezound. I do have to bit fiddle with secure boot
and UEFI vs CSM modes between windows versions
but both work.

I'm a non-expert, who's fought with Windows computers tooth and nail as they relate to device drivers for HTC phones. God I hate Windows!
My current Windows version is 8.1, and, after a mind-numbing search for relief on this drivers thing, I found this link, which suggests that there is now a "signature verification" thing you have to turn off to install custom drivers. I think the HTC drivers fall into that category.
What I did was first to execute the command line described in the link above, and then install HTC Sync. Next, I looked in my Uninstall Applications list for HTC-related stuff and saw HTC Sync along with some sort of automagical HTC driver install program. So I uninstalled HTC Sync, plugged in my Rezound, and, et voila, an HTC driver was installed! I am now able to see my phone's disks on my Win8.1 computer.
I was able to do an "adb devices" command and get a good response, but I confess that I DID NOT try "fastboot devices" in the appropriate bootloader mode.
tl;dr Windows combined with HTC devices sucks. There *might* be a way forward, but unless you desperately need Windows, use some form of Linux.
Good luck,
john

all drivers for the rezound were made for windows 7 only....windows 8 is still very buggy and has quite a few incompatibilities with alot of things...not just mobile device drivers either...linux already has all drivers needed built right in to its OS so thats always a failsafe and free option...or just downgrade to windows 7 by disk install and bios setting change (which is required for linux as no OS but windows 8 really is the only os to use UEFI mode)

Rev, you are the pro, so of course I'll take your word for that.
My experience is that I've had problems with the HTC drivers on Win 7 as well!
As for the installing Win 7, well, the disk part is the key; you'd have to own it or buy it to acquire the disk. I fail on both counts. I need a Windows computer for one several apps that simply aren't available on other OSes. One of those, Winamp, is what I use as an iTunes substitute; that app is why I need to mount my phone on a Windows system.

Drivers and windows 7

What's up guys. I have been a flash junkie for the past several weeks.. Flashing Axura, Team Whiskey's roms and everybody else's in between. I bricked my vibrant this past Sunday and needed to Odin back to stock because I could not get into recovery. So I proceeded to open Odin and hook up my phone when I get a message on my PC that my device wasn't recognized. So I went through the process of uninstalling and reinstalling drivers... I had no luck. So I got frustrated and went to a friends house and tried it. WTF? IT WORKS. He also has win7. So after a fresh Odin and back to an unrooted 2.2 I figured I could connect to my computer.... ( ha)... no luck again. So I backed up everything and installed win7 again. Tried it after that and still saying that the device is unrecognized. I know its probably something simple I'm overlooking but if anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated...

I have no problem with W7. It's possible your USB port is taking a dump. Do other USB devices work? Did you try another USB port?
Yep..... the only thing I have hooked up is a printer.... also I have tried all the ports. They all start to download the driver then it stops and the little notification bubble pops up and tells me that my device has stop working.

Try uninstalling the drivers you've at the moment, plug your vibrant and wait for the W7 drivers to install. Windows may have downloaded the drivers from the internet when you first plugged in your vibrant then you installed the drivers on here and **** got confused so if the w7 drivers work and your vibrant is recognized then all's good. Elsewhere, uninstall the drivers and install the xda ones but his time make sure you assign them manually too. (update driver>don't search for driver>let me assign the driver)

This is good start, Also try disabling your virus protection, sometimes it goes wonky and decides to block some of the usb hook up like a camera or phone, this has happened to me in the past.
Win 7 is very stable but on thing as a recommendation if you do not have you might think about getting win pro 64bit, is the most stable I have found...... just an after thought......... hope you get this resolved.
Thanks..... Will definitely try that when I make it home.

HTC SYNC messes with my internet

So my computers internet is not working at all. This occurred after I added the HTC sync software. I'm running Windows XP and i thought at first something was wrong with my internet. After a while I did a system restore and everything was back to normal. I installed the software again and it did the same thing. What's going on and how can i fix this?
Root your phone. Then you won't need HTC Sync to connect you Thunderbolt to your PC.
Are you using a firewall? Maybe it thinks HTC Sync is malware & is blocking your connection. As mentioned above, the best thing to do is ditch HTC Sync altogether, it's pretty useless.

Ok....so how do i go about rooting my phone? I need the usb drivers for my thunderbolt to get the adb to recognize it. I really need the drivers...is there a better way???
Nope. Consider it the price of admission. Read jcase's howto in the dev section. Rooting your phone is not difficult. If you can copy/paste, you can do it.

The rooting part isn't the hard part for me. It's this damn adb. I can't get it to work since i don't have the usb drivers for it. Do i need the usb drivers for the adb to actually root my thunderbolt?

When you installed HTC Sync you should've had the option to install the drivers too. If you don't have the drivers, re-download HTC Sync. The drivers will be included. Once the drivers and Sync are installed, you can uninstall HTC Sync. Its useless anyway.
I found that when rooting my Thunderbolt, that I had to have the phone in Sync mode. Otherwise adb showed it offline.

[Q] SGT 10.1 Usable with Win XPSP3 and supplied cable, or not? [SOLVED!!!]

Hi,
Apologies if this question appears elsewhere in Q&A but couldn't find it by searching.
The Question is
"Does the SGT 10.1 work with XP, as the literature implies, or not?"
And the follow-up
"If so, how?"
I don't need much, just a drive letter I can drag and drop to. Would've thought that fairly simple, a $4 PIC can do it these days.
My two other Samsung devices, Galaxy S, and Nexus S, work just fine with XP.
However, my GT 10.1, when plugged-in starts auto-installing with "Found new device...SAMSUNG_Android"
Then goes through a few further layers including "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device"
then "MTP"
Then "MTP Device"
Then "CDC Abstract Control Model (ACM)
Then "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem"
Then "MTP Device"
And there it stays, periodically playing the "fop" sound effect in windows. The hard drive keeps running and running. If you dismiss the status bar message, it comes right back. The "Fop" sound continues like a water torture forever. If you unplug the cable it says something to the effect that your device didn't install and may not work correctly.
I've tried with similar results both with the drivers included with the latest Kies (1.4.2.2) and other USB drivers mentioned in these forums (1.3.2360.0) which might be the Google I/O drivers.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer.
I really like the GT10.1 but maybe not quite enough to lose my entire XP configuration to a 7 install. My friend's A500 works perfectly with the same computer.
**************************************************
SUCCESS!!!
**************************************************
Stumbled onto the solution for this, there were several issues:
1. MTP protocol needs windows media player 10 or higher to work. Thanks to tommydorsey for that one!
2. Certain permissions are not appropriately set for MTP to work on a few machines, not sure why! Quite subtle. The command to set the correct permissions (run as an administrator) : Net localgroup Administrators local service /add
In conclusion, there are no good error messages for the endless USB JIT installation loop that ensues in both XP and Win 7 if this is not correctly configured, nor does the event log show anything useful. Thanks Microsoft!
Of course, you need the correct drivers. Either set I was using seems fine.
For some reason it needs Windows Media Player 11. Have no idea why, but I was having problems, found that when searching the forum, and it cleared things up for me. Good luck.
If you have the proper drivers, the tab will shown under devices in 'my computer'. It won't have a drive letter though. And drag and drop will work fine.
Also MTP only supports one operation at a time.

Thanks! What are the proper drivers? I've tried versions 1.4.2.2 (Latest Kies Drivers) and 1.3.2360.0 (Google I/O)
A device shows up under the device manager, but the 'fop' noise continues and the little "found new hardware" speak-balloon saying "MTP Device" with the upper-right close-box keeps appearing in the status bar at the lower right of the desktop. From observing the activity in Device Manager, it appears to be stuck in some sort of loop, Found New Hardware box pops up, "fop" noise, Hard drive diddles away, HW Manager refreshes, lather, rinse, and repeat.
Nothing shows up under "my computer" that wasn't there before.

Yes, Media Player 11 is happily running, I plug in the Tab, and get exactly the same results. Sticks at install displaying "MTP Device" and keeps going fop, fop, fop.
What driver version are you on?
I suspect maybe something is "stuck" in my machine, and I need to clear whatever other Samsung driver is there out better before it tries to load the new one. How to thoroughly remove the old Samsung drivers tho? It's just an installable program in Control Panel. "Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones". Best I can manage is to click "remove". Is there a better way?

Thanks! Looks like the reason is that Windows Media Player 10 or above is what makes MTP work on XP.

I'm on honeycomb(3.2)
I'm assuming the version of the prime: us_epad-8.8.3.27-20111122
So i went to the development section downloaded the primetime4.1 file.
I ran the ADB.exe file it installed... Then I went to tablet, click the install unknown sources and usb dugging. Then plug up the long USB Cord it came with. Clicked the primetime.4.1.exe file and the black/red screen comes up...... I choose 3 since I don't have the ICS update. so after that this message comes up:
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started succesfully *
it's stuck on this screen.
Made sure to install the included drivers for the Prime? And to cut ASUS Sync off?
Pretty sure you don't get adb with default drivers, which is of course what we're reliant on.

It's under accounts and sync in the tablet. And no, adb.exe is just how we communicate with the Prime with full control from the pc, it's the "android developer bridge" or whatever.
Go to Start menu, right click computer, click manage devices or whatever, and find your transformer under mobile or however it's listed. Once you've found it, right click, update driver, and select the driver folder included with viper's download.

[Q] fastboot stuck on waiting for device

Alright guys/gals, I'm sorry to make this thread, but I've been messing with this for days and just can't get it. I'm hoping someone with XP 32bit may know the answer. Or maybe someones google-fu is better than mine.
So, here it is:
I FINALLY installed the sdk a few weeks ago.
When I plug my Evo LTE in, and type adb devices, the window shows my device. I can adb reboot bootloader and that works. Then switch device to fastboot via bootloader. But when I try to do a fastboot command (fastboot reboot) it hangs on 'waiting for device'.
Apparently it's a driver issue, I assume. But I just can't figure out what exactly I need. Or maybe a different fastboot.exe in my sdk?
Using win XP sp3 32 bit. Anyone else?
Also, I can't get my PC to see my evos internal storage. I've tried uninstalling HTC sync (but actually it still shows in manage programs) I've tried installing the 32bit drivers in the zedomax root thread. Numerous reboots. I've installed easytether from market and used it (I've seen some say the drivers from that help with various android driver issues). Nothing will get my (crappy, low rent, PC) to see my new Evo. Sees my old Evo just fine, always has. But I know USB/MS is different from MTP.
I'm not a total noob. I rooted my Evo on launch day 2010 and have flashed and modded ever since. But when it comes to PCs and drivers etc, I really am a total noob.
So, if ANYBODY has any advice or links to what I need, I'd be forever indebted.
Much thanks to any response (except lmgtfy lol).
Edit:
My PC doesn't have web connection (I really just use it for storage and android stuff. Also, when I check in device manager, it doesn't show Android 1.0, as some tuts suggest, it shows my HTC.
Also, when i plug into a win7 PC with a web connection, it grabs drivers and recognizes my storage with no problem (if that helps). Thanks

From what I've seen, most times when drivers are issue, device manager shows android 1.0. Mine doesn't say that. Mine shows MyHtc, and says all drivers are good.

Well try uninstalling all phone drivers. Reboot and just hook the phone up and see what happens. Also could be the fault of the of the cable or you need to try a different USB port. And man WinXP 32? Somebody needs to update/ get a new PC . I'm kidding, I was stuck with two of em on XP, just recently got a new laptop with W7. If that doesn't work you could try setting up a Linux VM and see if fasfboot will work through there... but that a like last resort and only if you know what your doing on Linux or can google-fu quite well.

Here is the fix. The problem is the android 1.0 drivers. To fix install the PDA net desktop client. When you run it it will ask if you want to replace the drivers. Do this. Go to device manager and look for android 1.0 with the yellow exclamation point. Hit update drivers and browse to (x86/PdaNet for Android/usbwin (windows 7 the location will be different depending on your machine) you will see a security warning install anyway.Complete the installation and this should solve the issue.
Also as a note you may have to toggle signed drivers especially on Windows 8.

Perhaps your issue is different it may work for some in the thread it certainly worked for me.

Thanks. But I dont show the Android 1.0 drivers with exclamation mark as other have. My drivers just show My HTC ≥my HTC and say they're working properly.
I did install easytether and had read installing it and it's drivers help. But not so far. Haven't tried PDAnet. Will try. Maybe it uses different drivers than easytether?

Finally. I got fastboot working. But just through dumb luck. I uninstalled everything HTC I could find and then tried 12billion different ways to update the 2 drivers I'd downloaded. I finally got the android 1.0 in device manager then tried every driver I could find.
Fastboot works now. But NOTHING I did got XP to see my device as a storage MTP :banghead: dammit, I NEED to be able to get to my sh1t.

Same, same, did you already unlock the bootloader?

Nope. Haven't unlocked bootloader yet. It's gonna be tricky, too, I think. As you need a web connection. My XP with SDK and adb/fastboot doesn't have web.
But the PC i have access to with web DOESNT have the sdk set up (which it sounds like you need to accomplish the htcdev unlock).
I wish I could help and tell people how I finally got fastboot to work, but it was countless driver uninstalls and reinstalls and reboots (phone and PC), trips to bootloader. (While in bootloader, I saw different drivers in device manager than I saw while booted,...and I think this was a key clue for me. This is where I finally saw the Android 1.0 driver to update. Updated manually thru browsing files, and used the drivers from the root thread.
Also the usb-windows drivers from qbking77. Still not getting any USB storage action gggrrrrrrrr :banghead:

Since uninstalling HTC stuff fixed it, I wonder if disabling HTC Sync would have done it as well. I know it messes with ADB, so I'm wondering if it messes with Fastboot as well. Just a thought. Good job working through it though.
Yeah, I believe so. Also, I just remembered, when I was doing a driver update (turns out there's multiple ways to update drivers with the same result) in a little window before browsing for the driver, it showed my HTC 1.0.XX and my HTC 2.0.1XX and I believe I highlighted the my HTC 2.0.1XX then clucked "have disk".
I'll try to get a screenshot in a minute, if I can.
In the meantime, this weird headset looking icon (or hearing aid) showed up in my notification bar yesterday and I CANNOT figure out what the hell it is. I've been all through settings and just am stumped and feeling really stupid. Anyone know what this is?
