accidentaly upgrade to a leaked 2.1

hi i accidentaly upgrade to a liked 2.1 because i taught these guy http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=646595&page=3 #23
had the correct PB00IMG on he's blog
what does that even mean?
It means the emperor is wearing No Pants.
I could understand mistakenly updated but accidentally? How does one accidentally update their phone?
Is it like, "I was placing a phone call but instead of hitting the '8' I instead hit 'update'"?
I think he means updated accidently because according to Zifna's post, he thought he could roll back. He was wrong though, I guess Zifna jumped the gun on that one, but what can you do? you can't go back to 1.5 now, sorry, I think next time you should read as much as you can before updating and not just trusting one guys word
It looks like he misread the post, so I claim "User Error"
Not development related. Moved.
which one do i have
Perhaps he means he downloaded the wrong PB00IMG? I downloaded the PB00IMG and thought it was the rooted one but I think it is the leaked now??? I installed it as per ivanmmjs walkthrough but it booted up with 2.1 and I dont know how to tell if i am rooted or leaked????? Any help

You have to download the one in my link. PB00IMG.zip is not the name of the ROM, it's the required name for the flash to work.

Yes, but the post/thread/instructions leading to the link would tell you whether you downloaded the leaked version or the rooted version.
If you do not know at this point then it is probably too late since they all have the same file name :\
This is why researching things like flashing a custom ROM to your phone to the fullest extent possible before doing it is always recommended by anyone that frequently posts here.
goodluck

That's what I mean. The file name will ALWAYS be the same since the name tells the hboot that the file is a ROM. What's inside of the PB00IMG.zip is what actually changes. You can't go by filename, unfortunately.

[Q] I cant update with Kies : What file to use with ODIN ?

I have been using all day to try to update my sgs2.
I unrooted the device and uploaded a stock firmware to the phone, and thought kies would help me now..
but kies says that this device does not support updating with kies ???
I am currently running :
PDA:I9100XWKF3
PHONE:I9100XXKE7
CSC:I9100XEUKD1
2.3.3 android.
I would like to go for 2.3.5 or newer .. but i dont know what file to use... as im not sure what is right for me.
Im located in denmark/Europe..
Dont mean to be rude, but Come on man... go to development thread and read a bit first. This way you would know how to update/fix ur device if sth goes wrong and not wait for help from anyone
It took me 15 min to read then flash new room, root it and feel great that i have learned something

I couldnt agree more...
But i have been reading all day long, and im not sure if its ok to flash the I9100XXKI3 file into the phone ....
i dont see anywhere it says how to determine what file is safe for the ohone going from one firmware to a newer version..
i KNOW that my firmware is XWKF3 ... but the new... must it just be named something hihger like KI3 ? (i is higher than f) ..
Im so tired of spending all day with this ... i have earlier made LOTS of Wii softmods, xbox mods, etz, so thats why its so confusing spending all this time on this..
please just help me get the newest dk / european file for my phone, mr teacher
Once again all is safe if you read and follow the deatails.
firmware look for firmware for i9100 android 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 is the current android.
Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 or here http://www.sammobile.com/ now read its that easy.
If you cant find what you need from these 2 links flashing is not for you.
Posted in wrong subforum and all info is in the threads mentioned.
Not so hard

[Q] rooting the note

Planning on picking up a note next week, I've looked at the dev page for root instructions but I can't really make heads or tails of them and all of the videos I view seems to be the international version. Can anyone confirm of root or is is a work in progress and I should just wait.
It works via odin and is really easy

Just rooted mine using the steps from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504218
Coming from a Dell Streak this was a whole different process but it was really easy.
Now, seems the rooting/unrooting of the European version does not makes your rom count go up (please excuse my lack of proper terminology) therefore you can return your phone to stock (ex. for a warranty claim) without Samsung knowing you have mess with the rom. Is that the same for this version and if not is that in the works? How about unrooting the phone?
Thanks.
I have yet to hear one single actual case where Samsung denied a hardware claim because of the counter. People are going root counter crazy around here. C'MON ITS XDA! This is why we are all here, right??

You have to download the file. There are links to everything you need in Da_G's root threads in the dev section. Download, extract, then browse to the file via Odin, just like you tried above.
Edit: Actually with this one you don't even need to extract it. Its already a .tar file.

I didn't say anything about asking questions where you downloaded the kernels.
I said to read the directions provided in the thread where you got the kernels from.
Don't mean to offend, but If you can't follow the threads, then your not ready to root your phone yet,"you will more likely brick it". READ and then READ again..
Dont run before you can walk.
Also, MAKE SURE you are trying to use kernels (and/or firmwares when you move onto firmwares) meant for your phone. If you got these kernels from a thread in the I9100 forums, make SURE you have an I9100 by looking on the label under your device's battery.
I have seen a ton of people flash kernels and firmwares/ROMs intended for a different device, and the results have varied from the device not functioning quite right, to an outright brick that had to get sent back to Samsung.
The easiest way to root your s2 is zegrush exploit, works for me no problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
and you dont have to use odin so flash counter doesnt increase
threads
Im not an expert on phones but i know quite a bit about computers ,ive looked at the threads and followed the instructions and even whatched a video.ive un ziped many a file but when i un zip the kernel i get a zimage file. where i got the kernels from no body has this problem thanks am i doing somthing wrong with this zip file because i cant use it as a zip thank
I was confused too before rooting but you learn quick and understand after you do it. I dont know much myself but I dont think you need to download any kernels to root, at least I didnt. just use the link in my post above and it will be easy, yes it is scary the first time!!!

Pretty much every kernels here dont require you to unzip them, you flash them as they are. As everyone above says, read the instructions. I also know a lot of computers, but sadly pretty much no knowledge of that is useful for phones, unless you know programming.

What thread are you getting the file from, and reading? Cause it REALLY seems you are not following the instructions correctly. The zImage file IS the kernel, but it has to be in a .tar file to flash in Odin. So it sounds as if you've unzipped it twice instead of just once, maybe.
kernels
I was sent to this site from android pit,to get my kernels to root my samsung galaxy s2. i have followed android pit rooting video exactly its not hard but the kernels you get from this site are not the same as on the android pit video. And they tell you to get them from here. why
dont these kernels work thanks

I just TOLD you what you were doing wrong. I'm starting to think you really have no business doing this yourself.
If you end up with a zImage file, you unzipped it one too many times. Put the file that CONTAINS the zImage file into Odin.
root access thanks
thank mate i was zipping it twice ive just got root access the last message i wrote was before you told me what i was doing wrong thanks
thanks again ive just unlock my phone to any network

Well, I don't think I can help you in fixing this one out though ! I would say wait a bit more while and see if mods have something to say about !
