Is there an apps that can control and turn off moble network when the usage hit the thredhold? (IE: at 95%)
Currently I have a 2GB data plan, when I use 90% of my 2GB, ATT would notify me that I am close to my limit. I want to be able to turn off my mobile network automatically once I get to that point. Then strickly use Wifi (if available) until the end ofbilling cycle, so I do not get charge with overage fee.
Thanks in advance for all the responses.
You can definitely do this with Tasker. Just have it shut off data when you receive the text from AT&T. Or you can use ICS/JB's built in data counter. Or you can use a 3rd party one such as Ovano.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't know if I want to do that with Tasker, ATT do occationally send out text for other things.
I am unable to find the build in data counter. I will look into Ovano.
The built in one should be in Settings-> Wireless and network -> Data usage.

I think you missed my point. I know about the Data Usage. But it does not control and turn off the data network (to my knowledge), not unless I am missing something.
I need something that will and can locked down and turn off my Mobile Network setting until the next cycle.
Thank you for your help though, greatly appriciated.
Hmm... I thought that the "Set mobile data limit" option did just that. But I've never actually used it myself.

When monthly cycles are configured correctly, it does turn off data when you hit the preset limit till the next cycle.

I didn't see that option in my setting. But a friend of mine has that on his. Weird, maybe mine might be a modified version for the ROM I use.

I'm currently using a local sim card from Thailand in my Vibrant, but I still need to enable roaming to get data connected. One would think the phone should recognize the SIM and enable data without roaming on.
Is this perhaps hard coded in these phones, and is there a possible fix?

Strange, I had set them up manually before, but installed a new rom. Now for some reason it automatically setup the correct settings for data as well as MMS.
It's not giving me that warning anymore, but I wonder where it got those settings from...

Well I was too early, still get notifications to enable roaming.

Anyone else an idea? I hate to keep roaming on, one day that's gonna cost me big time.

my photon only downloads apps when on wifi not 3g. how do i fix it so it works on 3g???????
3G Data is too slow to use to download applications, it can take about 15 minutes to even begin to download an application. Sprint 3G is about 10kbps, if that, and that is not fast enough to download an application.

Umm no thats 1x, I average 600-2800 kbs. You Sir may not have 3g in your area.
To answer the orginal question, really big apps require because not everyone has unlimited data.

My mistake, I was wrong, my data speeds are 630kbps+, and Sprint is planning to do 3G/4G data speed, and voice upgrades within the next 6 months.

go to market and hit menu and it should have the settings on how to change it
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
I think there is something else going on. Mine works as expected, but my buddies photon will only download over wifi too. I made sure that all the settings are the same and even uninstalled the market updates, cleared the data, and let it reinstall. Its pretty weird. The only thing that I have not looked at is the build.prop. He is on the latest stock ROM and is not rooted. We are in a 3g area for what it is worth.
Any other ideas?
Go to settings, Battery and data manager, Data saver. if that is enabled it will not download apps or app updates unless you are on wifi.

Nailed it. I didn't even think to check that. Thanks.
Hi,
Does anyone knows an app able to keep a log with date and time, for each app (system or not) that is using internet connection (both 3g and wifi)? Usually, all the monitoring apps I've found, keep track of the amount of traffic, and a per day total, but I need a more detailed monitor, something like "who is using my connection now" and "who was using my connection in the last 30 minutes".
In other words, does anyone have an idea about that app for monitoring and logging internet connections, in such a way to be able to know who was using data connection at every moment of time ?
Thank you,
3g watchdog is pretty decent I believe

Thank you, but 3g watchdog does not show the log in a timely manner, it does show only the amount of traffic for each app, not when (hourly or even better, hour and minutes).
Anybody notice the data usage resets every time you flash a new rom? I checked on my att, by text and by 611, data resets every time. I dont have a clue though how it will affect the billing.
ATT doesn't calculate data based on your phone in any way. They calculate it based on packets sent to the phone (from their side).
The device usage statistics will reset on the other hand, but if you figured out a way to erase ATTs usage stats id love to know

If you don't want this to be reset, then back that information up with titanium and restore it. You'll get back your data usage statistics.
This thread is now useless. End Thread.

I didnt say that i want this to be reset. Iam just asking why is the usage check not consistent using *3282# or calling 611. I understand the usage stat on the rom resets everytime u swap roms but atts way of checking data usage should be consistent untill your bill closes

My billing information is consistent. I don't know why yours isn't. You should talk with them.

re: Constant data usage.. on wifi and mobile
I was using app after app to figure out why my data connection on wifi and mobile was always working..
I kept shutting down app after app too to find the offending one.
2 days later.. its the FUDGING GPS
and more specifically the check box was checked next to the "Wifi and mobile network location"..
Unchecked it and the data stopped..
Uncheck the box... and you will find better battery life... better yet.. turn off gps when not in use..
was wondering why my phone was losing soooo much battery when i was not using it.
Yes, allowing location to be determined using WiFi and network will eat up battery. Turning off gps when not in use really doesn't save any battery unless you have some rogue app that incessantly polls GPS.

E911 which all cellphones use now are easily traceable to within 100 feet. Even deactivated cell phones have 911 service. Every now and then the police knock on my door because the idiot boys next door fight with each other and use deactivated cell phones and call 911. I just point to their door.
