[Q] Stock Rom wont stick. Why? - Motorola Photon 4G

Just a simple question reallly but the answer may not be because it really dont make sense to me.
Why wont the stock rom for electrify boot up on my phone? it just sits there on the red moto logo and kills the battery.
I have 4 of these devices. 2 unlocked and 2 locked. I have flashed many roms. Like many! I have not had problem flashing these custom roms
but i have tried to flash on an unlocked bootloader a couple of the diferent deodexed versions via both recovery and fastboot and they dont boot.
I have redownloaded all of the files several times. Wiped this phone with every option i can find so far. Tried different recoveries on the phone. I feel like i have tried all i have in my knockledge base but this seems just odd to me. Could be im trying to hard and need to just walk away but i really wont to get this to take. I DONT want to sbf back and lock the bootloader. I can flash th3bills cm10 and it works great. Wipe the phone and flash either of these 1FF-sunfire-user-2%2e3%2e5-4%2e5%2e1A_SUN_USC_19%2e0-19-release-keys-signed-USC-US.zip
1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.5-4.5.1A_SUN_USC_19.0-19-release-keys-signed-USC-US.zip
and it just hangs.
So heres another question....can i not go back to stock gingerbread after going to jellybean?
Just kinda baffled right now and would like a second opinion here about what i must be missing or am doing wrong.
thanks in advanced for any help

After you flash did you do a factory reset in recovery before rebooting? Only thing I can think of.
Sent from my Photon 4G using Tapatalk 2

I have several times. Seriously dont think that these files can be corrupt after ruling that out by downloading them 3 times. I wait for the transfer to complete in ever way i transfer the files. Im seriously stumped.
New question.....in there a certain way to format for stock gingerbread or does it matter....re ext3 ext4 or whatever is out there.

When flashing back to stock, it's system data and cache. If after that it's not working, it's probably a bad download. The kernel would be the culprit if your flashing between android versions if I'm not mistaken. Also which stock ROM did you download? Some have had problems

A good full wipe would rule out the formatting I think

[Solved] CM9 Bootloop (Android Apps Update then back to logo)

Okay I have been trying to get a CM9 rom to boot on my Atrix for about a week now. I am coming from Nottachtrix 1.3.1 on radio 37p with faux GB24 kernel. My bootloader is unlocked and I perform all necessary wipes before install. The furthest I have gotten any of the CM9 roms to boot is the screen that states Android Apps(or something) updateing. It then states starting system and boots back to the booting logo. I have tried fastboot -w. Formating data, cache, system, osh, pre install in mounts storage menu, and clearing both caches before and after install and I get the same results. This only happens with CM9 roms. I cannot get the CNA, Jokers, Turls, or Atrix tablet past the screen stated. I have tried with the latest rom racer from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500 and both recovery and touch recovery from rom manager and I get the same results. I have posted my issue in the dev section, but decided this was better as I did not want to clutter up the dev forum with my problems. Could it just be my Atrix or would the 37p radio have something to do with the bootlooping issue. Any help would be very much appreciated.
For some odd reason I decided to pull my external SD card before boot, and freaking BOOM BANG POW NO BOOTLOOP!

Did you flash twice ?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
I believe the problem is with the radio, I had this issue (on stock radio), then I upgraded to the newest CM9 Kang (0.4.4) and it went away. I then flashed the 37p radio in an attempt to fix a problem I've been having with my WiFi and bluetooth (they both don't work and cause reboots, I assume now it's a hardware problem) and the boot loop came back. I'm gonna try flashing some other radios to see if that works.
Yes flashed twice to no avail. Gonna try the 36p radio and stock to see if that fixes my issue.

No need to flash any ROM twice. Not going to discuss other than to say its not require
OP......Not your phone or radio. There is something you are doing incorrectly. Quite possibly wipe procedure. If I remember when I am at my PC in the morning I will PM you exact instructions, start to finish, for flashing one of the CM9 builds.

Trust me, the CM9 kang (not turl's version, haven't tried that) didn't work unless you flashed it twice up to version 0.4.2 (I skipped 0.4.3 and installed 0.4.4 straight without wiping and only flashed once and it worked, so it's possible they fixed the bug). I don't think anyone knows why, but it's been confirmed many times.

That is what I am hoping, but I have tried every procedure I could find within the forums. Your start to finish is gonna be my last hope.
So I followed the same steps I use for other roms and managed to get this one working http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580449
Hey CaelanT any luck on getting me a step by step.

<edit> Check your messages!
Gonna give it a shot soon as I get off work.
EDIT:
Unfortunately that was a no go as well. Followed everything to a tee and tried different kernels. I can only get the AOKP rom to boot, but its is currently without USB storage. Does anyone know a difference in the roms that would cause my Atrix to boot on one and not the other. I can also manage to get the MIUI to boot.

I think something is going on with the kernel. You may have a bad processor. That's where my train of thought is right now. Sorry I couldn't get you up and running!

Thanks for all you help. Finally got it to boot by removing external sd card.
[EDIT] Not sure but I believe the problem I had with m external sd is I still had an ext4 primary partition on it from when I was using Webtop2SD. Copying everything over to pc now and reformating external to see if my assumption is correct.
Looks like the ext4 partition on as was the culprit.

[Q] help! cant get back to stock telus.

major problem.
i flashed team perfection objection ics rom. felt that i wanted to go back to stock and thats when the problem showed up.
i havent flashed any other custom rom before the objection ics. i came from stock rooted telus.
tried flashing the tar file from this thread
[STOCK][ODIN][GB][Telus] For those who wish to revert to stock Telus
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27508953#post27508953
- sometimes odin freezes but when it doesnt and actually finishes flashing, phone wouldnt start up after the automatic reboot. (how long should i wait for the initial boot to start? i wait for about 2-3 minutes of nothing but black screen before resetting)
i tried flashing the backup files from this thread
[ROOT]For TELUS Note (i717D) - No Flash Counter
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585440&highlight=telus+rooted+system
- after flashing, boots but gets stuck at the "touch the android screen to begin"
anybody have an idea whats going on?
tried 2 different stock tar files through odin and i cant get any of them to work.
i flashed back to the objection rom through cwm to make sure that my phone isnt bricked or anything. seems to be working fine. havent tried any other custom roms though.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Hi you may have a partition that is corrapted or there may be something wrong with that telus Odin flash. Go to dev section. There is another Odin flash for telus. It is a stock telus rom rooted that is flashed through Odin. It does work, I hav e used: t before. I will send you a link when I get home from work.

I may have found your problem. When using Odin, and flashing a backup file, it does not format your phone partitions. So you first have to go into cwm and do a factory wipe, wipe dalvik and go into advance and wipe the other dalvik . Do a battery pull, and now put your phone into download for Odin. I have telus kernel, telus modem and telus stock recovery that can be flashed in cwm. Just not sure if I have the stock from still. Pm me if you have any questions
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Just a update wipe data, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache before you use Odin to flash a rom. I told you partly wrong in precise post

thanks for the help guys
thanks for the help guys.
i dont know if its a partition problem though but it really got me worried.
for some reason i got it to flash properly and it booted up with no problems.
now im thinking thats its the odin software that was causing the problems. the first one that i used to root my phone a couple of weeks back had an "evo 4g" title at the top. it didnt gave me any problems back then so i ignored it. and thats the same one ive been busting to use last night to flash back to stock. anyhow, i tried using a different odin3 that has "android+slp" label on it and i noticed that it was freezing less and actually finishes the flashing but the bootup still has some problems. i get stuck at the bootup logo for a couple of tries. after sometime i just flashed it over and over again until i hit the jackpot.
is there anyway that i can check if my partitions are still broken? im thinking that i wont be doing any flashing until the update comes in july. the ics roms arent stable enough for me anyway.
oh what do i do if wanna get the official ics update? i have stock system, i think, but its rooted. do i just flash stock kernel and unroot it?
i found an article in lockermikedotcom that allows you to unroot using a batchfile. i was wondering if you guys can point me in the right direction. thanks
If you have a stock rom but it is rooted, flashing a stock kernel usually does not remove root. You would have to install stock recovery first and then you adb to remove the superuser and busbox files from your phone to get it totally stock like it was before you rooted it. This batch file DooMLord_v1_unrooting_zip will unroot your phone .It work on the Rogers Note anyways. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?7ysrb3v7tfu9t1a

Restore Note to Stock without USB connection?

I went to plug in my phone to my USB cable connected to my desktop, and and I noticed that my Note wasn't being recognized by my desktop, and but was still charging. Long story short, I deducted that it was an issue with the phone's hardware (tried different computers, cables, and ROMs). I have the $10/month warrantee from ATT, but just assumed that I could trust take it in because it was rooted and on a custom ROM. Is there a way for me to flash back to stock and unroot the phone without Odin or any other desktop utility, so that I can take it in?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I ran through the forums and didn't see a cwm flashable stock rom. So you may be out of luck on that one.
If you do find a stock rom you can flash though, you could potentially use this over wifi adb.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23499670&postcount=133
That'll remove CWM. Best bet might be to say you lost it and pay the $199 deductible. I had to do that once - I'm using the old phone as my mp3 player.
Are we sure this isn't a driver issue? I know its supposed to auto detect but it might he worth trying to install the drivers yourself manually and try again.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
I tired reinstalling the drivers and Kies on two different computers. I read somewhere just now that the issue was most like an issue with one of the wire strip on the USB dock part being messed up.

What about copying the original files onto a microsd from your computer and flashing from that?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Well that leaves me in a pretty bad spot I guess. I suppose my only options are to take it in to the ATT store and hope the guy can exchange it right then and not notice or care, and try to find someone who will sell me a single USB replacement part (looked everywhere though and only saw bulk dealers), and or just continue using it and never switch ROMs I guess

I didn't see a stock rom for him to do that with.
You can use the mobile Odin when you find a stock rom.
You can get a stock backup from someone who has stock rom and CWM and will reset to factory and make a backup and send it to you.
The at&t person won't check to see if you have CWM.

I used it, but I don't remember which phone.
So you will have a nandroid stock backup file soon. To flash that, you need CWM recovery. Do you have that?
I'm creating the backup right now..
I might find a server that can be used for downloading.. that way we at least have a completely stock cwm backup.
Good idea. Maybe Electron or another developer could host it for everyone's availability.

ROMs that support 4g on the Photon 4g?

So far, I have not taken the plunge and upgraded my ROM, because it seems that none of the custom ROMs support 4g data on the Photon 4g. While losing 4g is a worthwhile tradeoff for many, especially in areas where 4g is limited, I live in an area where 4g is plentiful, and 3g is actually rather scarce due to all the Sprint iPhone users. Without 4g, I would have to mostly rely on WiFi for data.
Does the new CM10 Jelly Bean ROM allow 4g to remain intact on the Photon 4g? Do any?
Thanks!
To retain 4g service you may only use a rom that is labeled as locked. To flash unlocked roms you have to unlock your bootloader which breaks 4g. Unlocked roms use custom kernels. To retain 4g your bootloader must stay locked therefore using the stock kernel. If your phone has the 2.3.4. System you can use my rom, rocko locked, joker skinney and maybe imperium. Although im not positive on imperium.

Also if your gonna stay with locked bootloader then look into locked roms, like Rocko or something.
I must be very clear at this point do not flash any rom if you took the 2.3.5. Only flash roms if your system is android 2.3.4. You can find that in about phone in your settings.
Roms are in the development section.

Thanks! I'm still running 2.3.4.
So, I downloaded Rocko, the version for Sprint, from the "no longer supported" thread, because the supported thread is for unlocked devices only. I put it in the root directory of my SD card, booted into Android Recovery Mode, and followed the bouncing ball to install the new Rocko ROM from my SD card. But, the install failed. I did NOT pre-wipe my device or clear cash. I assumed this would all happen as part of the process.
Any suggestions?

If you want 4g service your need to locked. Once you bootloader is unlocked it will break your 4g. Locked users have to use bootstrap recovery to flash roms. Make sure your rom says its locked.

So, I loaded bootstrap loader and installed Rocko's 3.0 ROM . This is the one, if you search Rocko in the development threads, that says "No Longer Supported". I assume this is because attention is now being paid only to the unlocked option, but I am not interested in that because of 4g.
Here is what I have noticed so far...
1) When I boot the phone, I get the message "sorry, the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Any know why this is? I hit force close and it doesn't seem to have any affect on the device function, but it would be nice if it wasn't there.
2) It comes with stock launcher and Launcher Pro options built in. I chose Launcher Pro, which honestly takes a little getting used to for setting up hot keys. Not sure if Go Launcher EX would work well. Once it's done, it's pretty maneuverable.
3) I thought it was going to delete all my apps and data when I installed. This did NOT happen, but does not seem to have done any harm.
4) Seems to be a little faster transitioning than the stock Motorola interface OR stock with Go Launcher EX
5) Not sure if I am getting 1080 video. How do I tell?
6) Not sure if there has been any battery life improvement either. I guess time will tell.
7) The camera crapped out during use but came right back up when I called on it. This has happened on stock too, so not sure if it's an issue.
8) Finally, really not sure all the benefits of Rocko. If anyone can share the highlights, that would be helpful.
So, the big thing for me right now, is that I have flashed my first Android ROM and I did it pretty successfully the first time with minimal performance issues. I realize I have chosen a no longer supported version (would be nice if Rocko would re-engage support for those who wish to keep 4g), but, if there is a way to fix the com.android.phone issue, that would be helpful.
Thanks!

I thought it had corrected itself, but seems to have started up again. Cleared cache and Dalvik cache. No luck. Anyone know how to get rid of the com.android.phone process error without doing a fully factory reset or a reinstall of Rocko 3.0? I really don't want to start over and reload everything. If there is a way to block the error since the phone is fine, that would be helpful.

[Q] Can't restore backups and other issues

What's up guys, I'm running into an unusual issue here and could really use some guidance. I tried searching around, and the only solution I KNOW will work is to start from scratch, using odin to go back to stock, re-rooting, and then slowly trying to work my way back to where I was before the FUBAR.
So, I was recently using LiquidSmooth 2.9 and went to make the leap to 3.0. Flashed everything, got confirmation that it went through ok, and then I just got stuck at the Samsung Galaxy s4 screen, nothing happens after that. So, I went to restore from the backup that I took earlier and I got a failure to restore.
Not to worry, I figured, I'll just reinstall from the zips for 2.9 that I still had on my SD card. Well, I do that and everything seems to work fine with the flash, but now I'm STILL stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S4 boot screen and STILL, nothing happens after that.
Any suggestions on what to do here? Flash a new kernel? Am I stuck going the long route and having to Odin everything back to stock and then re-root, etc?.

Id download the latest liquid file again just in case that file was corrupt somehow.
That's usually been the problem lately from what I've been seeing. You really shouldn't have to Odin.
Also the kernel shouldn't matter but I always flash kts latest kernel with liquid but others don't and have no issues.
Grab that file again
Do a couple wipes in recovery
Flash away

Well I've seen others either upgrading their twrp or going with some version of CWM but that's obviously up to you. I'd try to download the latest liquid, which is a unified build, and try it again first..
