Hey everyone,
Just to let you all know, I've searched the forums and didn't find anyone with the same problem as mine. When I try to install CM10 Nightly (the most recent version) on my HTC Amaze 4G, I get an Installation Aborted error. It looks like this:
-- Installing: /sdcard/cm-10-20130128-NIGHTLY-ruby.zip
Finding update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.
Most people seem to have some Status 7 error, but I don't get that. Any ideas?
More information that might be useful to know:
Currently running ICS
Bootloader is unlocked
My phone is rooted
I have wiped all data before trying to install CM10, using CWM Recovery
Thanks,
Jason.
1. Always check the MD5Sum and compare file sizes. You might have gotten a bad download.
2. If you're not S-Off then the recommended recovery to use is 4EXT recovery WITH Smart Flash ON. Why? Because you'll also need your recovery to flash the boot.IMG aka kernel.

Thanks for the reply! I'll try it again as soon as I can
Try update recovery. I use 4ext and it is good.

Hmmm, it's still not working, and I've tried just about everything.. Oh well, I'll eventually figure it out.. I don't want to bother everyone on here for a question that keeps coming up.
Thanks though!

What ROM are you trying to flash? Are any of the options under the flash menu checked or have an"X" beside them?
Have you tried reflashing the recovery? Are you using TWRP 1.01 or 1.0?
I am using twrp 1.0.1 and have been trying to flash gbsense-e3d-deck [0.2] and Chogardjr3D v0.9 - Re-Engineered Sense 3.0, I have tried redownloading, reflashing the recovery, I am doing full wipes before flash attempts. I am really at a loss as to what the issue is.
Did you check reboot after successful flash? I don't know if that's what fixed it for me but I had that problem the first time.

I know I had it checked when trying to flash Chogardjr3D v0.9 but not the other because I wanted to flash the netarchy kernel

Hmmm..I know others have had this problem. It seems perseverance is key. Keep wiping, factory reset, etc. It seems once it works once, your good.

I can't flash any roms. I am using twrp 1.0.1 downloaded early this am.
Also, I redownloaded twrp, and redid that so recovery is new.........
Just tried the mik rom, I got the same errors.
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
and with sig verification on I get
E:signature verification failed
mik's rom is signed as well as synergy............
There have been a few others with this problem, but they seem to get past it. I wipe everything but still get these errors. And when I tried to restore with my nandroid, I get stuck on the htc screen, then I pull the battery, wipe, and restore the nandroid again, and it works, but it always takes me two times. Any one have an idea, never ran into this before............
I have no options checked, still get this error.......

This is exactly what is happening to me as well.
Do a reboot. Your system wont be there so reboot into bootloader and go back into recovery.
I had the restore problem too..had to double up.

tehbeetus, and I both got it, I rebooted and selected factory reset, and it worked, tehbeetus just rebooted and got it to go. Not sure why some of use have to do it twice though. Mine is that way everytime I flash a rom, or nandroid.
I'm trying to flash to stock 2.3.4 from Cyanogen 7 and so far I've had no luck. I've tried flashing from both internal and external memory and this is what I get:
Installing: /emmc/234-sb-release.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /emmc/234-sb-release.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I'm opening to flashing to stock by some other method, but I have no idea why this won't work for me. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
Try to download the ROM, although it seems you've tried that. If that doesn't work, maybe you are using the wrong recovery? Try romracers recovery, it's the best right now for the Atrix.

what about loading a rom like alien? where as its like stock, based off stock but has some tweaks and upgrades?

Yeah. Alien didn't work either. I'll probably try a different recovery if I have to. It sucks that I'm going to have to put a lot of work into this seeing as I'm not even keeping the phone (passing it along to my dad).
Are u using an old recovery? Use rom managers recovery. (Cwm) if that doesn't work its possible there was data corruption with the rom downloads.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
It's really not a lot of work at all, just a few fastboot commands. Probably an issue with the dl though but try romracers in conjunction with a fresh download, most people only recommend the CWM recovery if you're flashing CM7.

Just tried flashing with fastboot also. This is what I get:
EOCD not found, not Zip
error: failed to access zipdata in (then it's just a huge list of random characters that I'd rather not type out).
I've tried this with 3 different roms: 234-w-release.zip, 234-sb-release.zip, and Alien-4.zip. They all had the same result of not working.
But that's not all. I also flashed Rom Racer's recovering (successfully) and tried to flash the same files that way. Still nothing worked.
I find it extremely unlikely that 3 ROMs that were all downloaded on different days will not work at all.
If anyone has anymore ideas, I'll be up for a while.
Also, is it possible for me to flash 2.3.4 using RSD? If so, I can just do that. I want to make sure because I know flashing back prior to 2.3.4 can cause a hard brick.
Are you using the Rom Manager recovery or the custom recovery?
For Fruitcake roms (Stock based roms) needs the custom cwm recovery. Thats here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
edit: do not SBF!! that results in a hard brick
also, download the files with the built in browser's downloader, dont use a download manager, sometimes they can corrupt the zip
I think I've got it to work! I reflashed the recovery you directed me to, download a new file, and it actually flashed this time. I should be good to pass this phone along now.
Thanks to everyone who helped me out with this one! I really do appreciate it!
While I can agree that flashing an sbf through rsd poses a risk of hard bricking your device, I do have to add that it is not definitive. I have sbf'ed twice now, once from pi-crust and once from cm7, so it can be done, but I would also suggest just using fruit cakes.

That's weird because the link he gave you was the romracer recovery. What were you using before that you thought was romracer?

That's true. I hate when people spread misinformation. 2.3.4 stock .sbf will not cause a brick. Only earlier .sbfs will.

Good morning everyone
Just yesterday, I chose to update my tablet to one of the xda posted JB roms. I'm coming from an ics build 38 AOKP that I've been on for several months.
After I'd confirmed a successful download, I performed all the necessary cleaning procedures pre-flash, flashed the rom, and was stuck at the splash screen.
So I went back to the ics build and attempted the same with a cm-10.1 build with the same effect. Upon asking the first developer for advice flashing his rom, I was advised to update my recovery which was an older 5.x version of CWM to which another member directed me to the latest version.
Prior to this, I had attempted to use rommanager to update the recovery. During that process something happened in which the device rebooted and froze at the splash screen. I attempted a reboot into recovery via power+volume down and when selecting recovery, I only got a black screen.
So I took the Odin route and dropped the latest cwm tar.md5 through pda in download mode which allowed me to freely re-enter the rom and reboot without issues. However I still only have a black screen when attempting to get into recovery.
Any advice on how I would be able to restore my custom recovery without returning everything to factory images and starting over?
Thank you to those willing to spend the time and effort to help me solve this problem.

You need to flash a new recovery. Grab a copy and install it using ODIN and you should be all set.

Thanks for your response. Are you suggesting that I flash an older version of ClockworkMod recovery? I already flashed the latest version through Odin which gives me the same black screen.

I misread what you said. Apparently you've got your rom installed but recovery isn't working, correct?
I had no problems on my 7510 using CWM v5.5.0.4 and with CWM Touch 5.8.3.1 - either of those should work if you flash them with ODIN or Mobile ODIN.

Ok cool I'll give 5.8.3.1 a try if I can find it. So, in my reading I was under the assumption that cwm recovery needed to be above 6.x.x for use with 4.2.2 jb roms. Are you currently or have been on a 4.2.2 rom with your tablet using the recoveries that work for you?

No, I've never tried any JB roms, so I didn't need the latest CWM. If nothing else, trying a different known-working CWM will at least prove that you're able to flash recovery and have it working.. then you can go find a 6.x recovery for the Tab 10.1.
Progress Report
So I managed to shell instal a version of TWRP and the recovery works perfectly! However, I am unable to use any roms except aokp ics (milestone6) lol
Could this be a recovery issue? Still somewhat unfamiliar with the Tab 10.1, I assumed there was an hboot that I could access to flash a recovery image but all reboot attempts into hboot (4.0.4) ended in a simple reboot.
Back to recoveries however, I attempted to flash different versions of CWM tars through Odin3 v1.85 and they all ended in solid black screens. Somewhat at a loss as only the Milestone 6 aokp build is accepted to my tablet and no other ics or jb builds. Somewhat off topic, is there no requirement to RUU upgrade the firmware to something later in order for the table to accept newer recoveries and hboots?

Hey Guys,
First, thanks in advance for any assistance!
I unlocked the bootloader no problem. Installed TWRP 2.5.0.0 no problem.
After downloading the unofficial slimrom for the htc jewel from these forums, I dide a wipe, installed the zip and the slimgapps and then rebooted.... Black screen. Nothing. For a long time. Holding down the power button yields flashing soft keys.... looks bad. Anyhow, yes I'm an idiot, don't have a nandroid, or any other ROMs on the phone to install, but I can still get to the bootloader and to TWRP. Is there a way to push another ROM to the phone and then install it using TWRP? Can't seem to figure this bit out. Also there is some weirdness in the filesystem with with "sdcard" and "sdcard2", the Slimbean zip is in the /sdcard2/download folder and that's where I installed it from if that makes a difference. Anyhow, at this point I just need to get this thing booted again! Any help is greatly appreciated.
EDIT: I have made multiple attempts to wipe the phone in TWRP and reinstall the slimrom zip to no avail... please help! Also, /sdcard2/ is still populated with a lot of stuff, including the download folder with all of the zips in it.
Well, thanks to some help from IRC I was able to use USB OTG to push the CM10.1 M2 and installed that and the latest gapps and yet after reboot it still just goes to a black screen. not sure whats going on here!
Is your phone s-off or s-on?

If you are S-on you will need to install the kernel separately, otherwise the ROM won't boot.

You can look here on XDA for a custom kernel or just pull the boot.img from the ROM itself. You can then use ADB to install the kernel prior to flashing the ROM.

So I was pretty determined to get Cm 10.1 running on my Galaxy Note 2 for Verizon. Before hand, I was using TWRP to do all my ROM flashings but when I tried to use CM 10.1, I was told I must use CWM for it to work properly.
Here's my issue, I tried using CWM but it kept on giving me an error and after searching for awhile, it said its because I'm trying to use TWRP instead of CWM. So I flashed CWM and it gave me the same error. Tried both Touch and regular, downgraded and upgraded to the latest CWM but still same error. So I said **** it and installed the lastest TWRP. Then all the ROMs that were giving me issues started to install flawlessly. Then I went to CWM and it gave me the same error.
Am I doing something wrong when I flash CWM? I tried both Odin and APP Update way and both with same results. After using TWRP for awhile, I actually am starting to like the CWM Touch a lot better and I want to switch but not if its going to be giving me problems every flash.
Any insight would be helpful,
and as always to everyone on this forum, thanks
Just make sure you are using the latest version of TWRP 2.5 and you will be fine. You also may need to re-download your ROM file.
Well I am, in a way, stuck using the TWRP right now but I would like to know if I can actually change it to CWM. And if so, how would I go about doing that? because flashing the CWM alone isn't doing anything for me.

That is the way I have always gone about getting CWM on my phone back when I wanted it. I would just flash over TWRP in TWRP and then reboot system and then reboot back into recovery and it would always be CWM. If it doesnt work for you that way then see if they have a Odin tar and if so follow the instructions to flash it in Odin. They may not have an Odin flashable though, its been a long time since I have used it and on a different phone so....

Let me actually rephrase this. (My bad for any confusion)
So if I try to flash a rom using TWRP, it goes through without any issues, even the CM rom. But when I flash CWM and try flashing, it gives me the getdevice-"(t0vzwte)"-not exact".. When researching, I was kept on told its because it is running TWRP. I tell them its CWM and they told me to update my CWM. I actually like CWM a bit better, idk why. but I was just trying to get my phone 100% the way I want it.
