[Q] Having some troubles to build kernel from Github Repository - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm having some issues to build the kernel for my tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab p5110 from this github repo:
https://github.com/C...sung_espresso10
I'm getting the following error:
CC arch/arm/mach-omap2/common-board-devices.o
arch/arm/mach-omap2/common-board-devices.c:28: fatal error: linux/spi/ads7846.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.
make[1]: *** [arch/arm/mach-omap2/common-board-devices.o] Error 1
make: *** [arch/arm/mach-omap2] Error 2
I also had to edit arch/arm/mach-omap2/Makefile.sec because it was taking the BUILD_SOURCE as "".
I'm the doing the following steps:
make mrproper
make ARCH=arm cyanogenmod_p5110_defconfig
make -j4 ARCH=arm
make clean
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Matias Kreder

Your in the wrong section, this is for the first gen Galaxy Tab P75xx. Someone might be able to chime in and help but you have better luck in the appropriate section.

Would you please give me a link to the right section? I'm not able to find any other specific forum for "Galaxy Tab P75xx."

Help with Compiling error please.

I am compiling a custom kernel for CM using cm source and a few other minor tweaks from others, and myself, and I am getting an error having to do with the bcm4329 while compiling.
I am pretty new to c programing and compiling and am not sure how to fix this error any help is greatly appreciated.

have you modified the wlan source at all?
if not, repull down the source fresh, and then re-merge your changes in.
havn't modified the wlan source at all, so I will repull and try again, will report back. Thanks.
Ok i got the kernel compiled and now I I want to compile the .ko for the wireless, can I get a little help with that?

If u ran a make, it was compiled.
Pick it up in drivers/net/wireless/bcm4329
I ran the make command from the cyanogen wiki, and used make ARCH=arm command and the wireless driver is not in the file it is supposed to be in.

Pass this to make:
Foldertoputmodulesin/ modules_install
Then you'll see your modules in there.
Gr8gorilla,
What did you do to get the kernel to compile? I'm getting the same error with a fresh pull.
If you check out my overclock how to, I take you step by step through making a kernel.

I still get the compile error after I followed the guide except I didn't use your modified files; I'm not overvolting or overclocking.
For what its worth, if I remove the bcm4329 kernel module from the config then it builds fine and is running stable on my Nexus One, albeit, without wifi.
Nevermind, apparently there was something wrong with my kernel config.
how long ago did you resync your repo? I had a compile error today that is involving some of the new changes there was a new option when doing old config, I hit yes the first time and had an error, no wifi driver, but a boot image. Second time I hit enter and it compiled fine.

You shouldn't have to edit the Makefile. Are you using the tool chain recommended by Sony? Make sure your path selects them before anything else. Also I would reset locale to C before compiling ("Erreur"?!), it may play some tricks.

You find the specific instructions for the Xperia S at http://developer.sonymobile.com/wp/...-archive-released-with-building-instructions/ referring to the kernel building howto at http://developer.sonymobile.com/wp/2011/05/06/how-to-build-a-linux-kernel/ recommending you to use the tool chain at https://sourcery.mentor.com/sgpp/lite/arm/portal/[email protected]=lite
Follow those instructions before start tinkering with Makefiles, tools, build environment etc and I'm sure you'll succeed.
And reset locale to C! I.e. unset the LANG and LC_* environment variables in your shell before running the build scripts.

Sorry, but I'm no mind reader. "does not work" is not sufficient information for me to reply anything helpful to.
The basic is, if you don't know what you are doing, do it by the book. Still not working? Ask for help. Sony Xperia has presented quite a verbose instruction about how to compile their kernels. Try following this before choosing your own tool chain, edit Makefiles and so. When you get problems, read the instructions more carefully and/or ask the community (hi!) for help, with somewhat more detailed information about what you did and how it failed. The more verbose information you present, the more likely you are to get a useful reply.
Best of luck.
------------------
(edit)
A curious question, why do you want to compile a new kernel? I get the impression this is not your field of expertise, and maybe you are trying to achieve something somewhat more complicated than needed.
Hello,
I encounter the same kind of issue. Does anyone could help me ?
I work in an Ubuntu PC (10.04).
I have downloaded the toolchain for Linux from sourcery.mentor.com (arm-2012.03-57-arm-none-linux-gnueabi.bin)
Then the kernel source code 6.1.A.0.452 from developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/xperia-open-source-archives/open-source-archive-for-build-6-1-a-0-452-6-1-a-0-453-and-6-1-a-0-454

ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=~/Toolchain/ARM_GNU_Linux/bin/arm-none-linux-gnueabi- make
Then I have the following error:

You need android-ndk-r5b to compile the Xperia kernel source. I.e. you can not use the latest NDK.
Thanks a lot for your answer
Unfortunately, I didn't find android-ndk-r5b for Linux.
Could you kindly indicate me where I can get it ?
thanks !

Thanks again, I really apreciate your support !
I have downladed and extracted android-ndk-r5b to my Ubuntu station.
it seems that is is not a built version, right ?
I have tried to navigate in the documentation, but it does not look so trivial...
Would you know how to simply compile it ?

It's compiled ready to use.

Also, I'm note quite sure if I used 4.4.0 or 4.4.3, since both are included in the same r5b distribution. You can also try;

Not sure it is still in the scope of this topic, but continuing to execute the instructions found in developer.sonymobile.com/2011/05/06/how-to-build-a-linux-kernel/, I have some questions regarding Step C, absolutly not clear for me
What should I do exactly to prepare my boot.img ? What have I to do to create a ramdisk.img file, or where can I find it ? (in fact I do not know what it the ramdisk in the picture...is it required ?)

Start with the original root filesystem from the standard boot.img you are already running.
You'll find my tool working with boot.img here: http://whiteboard.ping.se/Android/Unmkbootimg
Also, read the links on the page my signature links to, to get more information about how to build boot images, root file systems etc.
The ramdisk contains the root filesystem, and yes, it's very much needed.
Ok understood
last point: how to retrieve the boot.img from my Xperia S phone ? (that is already unlocked)

Double check that you added your device to the Android.mk build target file. For more help on your build error I would suggest checking out this thread dedicated to build errors http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2059939. As well as these guides to common build basics http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_Building_Basics and common build errors http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_dealing_with_build_errors.

because the new QRD JB code need checksparse.py when you want a system.img.ext4 for output.
However, qualcomm did not put this file in the source code.
my solution is, edit build/core/Makefile to delete lines containning checksparse.py.
hope it helps

I think dfo_boot.h should be a file, whicht is automatically generated during "make mediatek-configs" and I haven't had any luck figuring out a fix to the problem since I'm a n00b.
Shold "make mediatek-configs" not be the reason for my missing dfo_boot.h, could you please explain to me where I can get it from or how its generated.

Hi Master Awesome. Firstly, I wanna say a big "Thank you!" to you for this guide. However, whenever I install those required packages, they BREAK MY LINUX INSTALLATION. My machine no longer shuts down or boots successfully. WHY? I'm running 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I appreciate your response. Thanks!
ABS or AOSP
Hello.
For bulid a MTK is more ABS or AOSP??

can you help me
@BlackObyo read this. Basically you've got some spaces in that Makefile where there should be tabs. Did you edit that file manually at all in a text editor? Send me that file, /home/ipul/mediatek/custom/Kernels/kernel/mediatek/Makefile , by attaching it in a post here and I'll have a look, unless you think you can sort it.
@HTCDreamOn
I do not change the contents makefile

weird, it looks fine to me, as it should do if you've not touched it. I don't own a MediaTek device, so I can only recommend making sure you've followed the guide exactly. Other than that you could tell me your device and which source you're using and I could have a quick investigation?

There was no readme file along with the source. I was able to compile the kernel but ended up unsuccessful, it says a bunch of errors, such as "make[x]: (net) error" "make[x]: error, cannot find kernel_byd82_wet_kk.bin" where byd82_wet_kk is the Target_project

Error on building my ROM

Hi all,
I own an Japanese version of S3 (SC-06D) and I try to build my CM12.1 rom, but I had a problem at the very beginning, see the log below:
make: *** No rule to make target `/home/erio/android/aojp/out/target/product/d2dcm/obj/STATIC_LIBRARIES/libminui_intermediates/export_includes', needed by `/home/erio/android/aojp/out/target/product/d2dcm/obj/EXECUTABLES/healthd_intermediates/import_includes'. Stop.

I couldn't found "/libminui_intermediates/export_includes" and "healthd_intermediates/import_includes" and it halt there. I done repo sync perfectly and no ideas on why there is such a problem. Please help.

Your issue is that the device is not supported by cm. So you will have to do all the legwork of getting the device trees and all the proper files. You can't use the same files for other s3 on your device.

Thanks.
Once I successfully build CM12.1 on 9 July, but afterward, never success and prompt that error.
I reviewed a page on how to build for SC06D: http://lawnfield.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-61.html
I had done all the things listed there, but finally got that error.
So, what exactly that error means and what should I do to resolve?
It seems (maybe) I solved the problem, now building but not yet complete.
From the source it use CWM as default recovery but now the code is using TWRP, so it halted. And I change it to TWRP and now running. For sure I have not much ideas on why such change in code, may be the KBC-developer intended to do, but not fully.
Another question is, If I would like to build the rom, but not all apks in /system/app, what should I do? As I would like to slim down the rom as some of the files are unnecessary to me, e.g. bootnanimation.zip and the default browser.
