Hi, I am still new to all of this. I have put siyah v5.0.1 as the kernel on my orange uk s2, but when using the eMMC checker, the s2 still has the brick bug, stating insane chip on the eMMC app.
Can I put any custom rom on the s2 without it becoming bricked???
Android version: 4.0.4
baseband: I9100XXLQ6
Kernel:[email protected] #6 SMP PREEMPT sun nov 11 12:25:24 PST 2012
Build number: IMM76D.XWLPT

Nothing you install will change the fact that the HARDWARE chip in your device is susceptible to the eMMC brick bug. You can only make sure you avoid the issue by taking precautions, like staying on Siyah, or any other safe kernel, as long as you are on 4.0.4.

I have purchased a new SIII for my wife but it has a Vodafone-modified/branded ROM on it. I have been trying to figure out which ROM I should use to get a non-branded stock ROM on the SIII (like I did for my SII), but I get lost in the alphabet soup. Which stock ROM can I use here in Australia?

I looked through samfirmware.com but could not see a ROM tagged as "Omega". Am I looking in the wrong place?
And I'm pretty certain I have rooted her phone already... well, I went though the motion and SU is installed... but the proof will be when I try to flash an entire ROM, of course.
You will find the Omega from here in our development section for the S3.

Hey there,
After 2 years I've decided to root my SGS2, Ive been through flashing with nokia's and that kind of things. However, Im a total NOOB in android rooting.
My problem is the following:
I've updated my phone to ICS 4.0.4 (biggest mistake of my life).
Now I've searched everywhere to find a root manual for my Firmware-version, but I keep coming up with german sites (I'm Dutch).
Google translate does its work like a piece of sh**, so I've lost all of my faith.
After some crappy translating, I read something about a hard-brick of this firmware.
My question is: Wich version is safe to root on my phone?!
Info about my phone:
Carrier: T-mobile
Model: GT-I9100 (ofcourse)
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: I9100BOLP7
Kernel version: 3.0.15-1056084 [email protected] #3 SMP PREEMPT Fri Aug 24 17:36:36 KST 2012
Build number: IMM76D.BOLPM
I hope my question isn't a dumb one, if so, I'm sorry!

Many Thanks

Flashing Siyah will also root your phone. Just make sure you use the correct version of Siyah for your model and version of Android.
You do not need to root your phone to flash Siyah kernel.
When you flash Siyah you will get root. Here's what you do:
#download siyah kernel
#Boot phone to download mode
#Open Odin and connect phone
#put siyah kernel .Tar file in PDA section of Odin.
#click start.
It is extremely difficult to brick your phone flashing a kernel in Odin.
Good luck

Hi,
Flash PhilZ-CWM6 kernel from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?k9j877v7k3z7sr8. Go to stock recovery (turn off the phone and press at the same time volume up + home + power) and use flash update zip option. Regards

If you want to be 100% safe, don't screw with it, and just use your phone normally.
If you flash a safe kernel you'll avoid brick bug.........

look into the siyah kernel. which is what most people used to root there 4.0.4. once you flashed the kernel and have clock work mod, flash a custom jb. be careful.

Questions:
1- Is my phone the International version one?
2- The LPG (in bold) is what matters to the CFRoot, or what does matter?
3- The "CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5.zip" doesn't fit my phone because of the sgs2 and LPQ?
4- Can you find me a suitable CFRoot?
5- If I put the Siyah insted, what shoul be the version?
6- Do I need to use ODIN with Siyah?
Please answer all of my questions
Sorry if my English isn't the best, im not a native speaker.
I don't know to answer your questions, but if you actually want to upgrade your software you better do it now before you root, because if you upgrade your rooted phone software you will lose the root.
Also the kernel is not weird. That is a stock kernel.
