Im currently running Turkbey hellraised on my Sgh-I777. I wanted to try this rom out, but when i did the usual steps for hellraising and rebooted i got stuck on the boot screen, not a boot loop but the actual start up screen that reads "Samsung Galaxy s2 Gt -I9100".

hellraiser package is designed for GB roms. That is an 4.0 base and we do not have a fully functional kernel for our phone yet.

Here I'll help you out since you were expecting it. READ THE COMPLETE OP before trying something like this. It states what the mod is compatible with. LOL I'm only half serious. I feel your pain too I want to use ics so Bad. Just so ya know I've flashed the ics for the i9100 on our phone and it doesn't brick it or anything just the back and search buttons don't work.

Be careful - some of the ICS installs have a PIT file and are flashed in Odin.
DO NOT FLASH THESE.
As of today, the ONLY reason to EVER flash the I777 using a PIT file is to recover from a situation where you screwed it up by flashing something with a PIT file.
Nothing good can come out of flashing using a PIT file on the I777 at this point, nothing! So DO NOT FLASH anything that includes one!
Things might change when we get official ICS, but right now - DON'T DO IT.
I flashed the first i9100 leak using odin on my i777, and it workt just fine, only played with it for like 5min since ril is busted =/, tho he can flash i9100 cm9 just fine(after taking out the ro.productdevice=i9100 string out of the updater-script) and play with ics a bit, tho like we all know no mic on calls/no back/search keys(tho it can be fixed with gb /usr and a kernel edit) =/

I think, once we start getting ICS for the i777, the device will have to be repartitioned. In HC (and ICS), /data and /sdcard (/mnt/sdcard) are no longer seperate partitions. If I understand ODIN properly (and I don't), that would imply a PIT file, correct?

Hi I've bought myself the SGS2 (non-G version).
now, to root, do I use the method here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
and let's say i have rooted it using CF-root 5.2, do I just pick a ROM and start flashing them? Or do I proceed to flash a Custom Kernel first before the ROM?
Anyway, I noticed that there are 2 sections for the SGS2G and the SGS2 (non-G). Which ROMS do I select from and are the ROMS variant dependent? means if I have the non-G version, I cannot install a ROM from the SGS2 Original section? A little help please! So sorry for being a noob.
Yes follow those rooting instructions, after the phone is rooted download a rom and copy it to your phone then flash it via cmw or manually via recovery mode, reboot while holding power, home and volume up.
Personally I recommend bezke UltraIcs, using it without issue

1st thing you do: read, read, read.
You can use whatever root method you feel comfortable with. I've used CF-Root, Odia's insecure kernels, SuperOneClick, and flashing Siyah kernel. They all work fine.

Most ROMs come with their own kernels, so if you flash a custom kernel, then a ROM, then the kernel that came with the ROM will overwrite whatever custom kernel you flashed first.

What 2 sections do you mean? The Galaxy S II Original Android Development, and the Galaxy S II Android Development forums?
It's important to note that these are not G and non-G. Original means developed from the ground up. (think CyanogenMod) The non-original generally means derivative from another ROM - usually stock.
I9100G ROMs are scattered throughout the I9100 forums, because there is currently no separate forum for the I9100G. The post title for these ROMs should always note that they are for the I9100G instead of the I9100 though. As long as you follow my suggestion for 1st of all above, you should be fine.
If you have the i9100g choose the roms that clearly indicates i9100G only in title, otherwise it should work just fine for i9100. Roms in original development indicate roms built completely by the developer hence the original. The Android development roms are roms that could be based off of someone else' rom or similar. You can flash roms from either section.
Just make sure to properly flash them and never forget to make a backup.
Edit: ctomgee answered.

Please be aware that though simbesh said he is using it without issues, ICS is NOT officially released. Some users have issues with ICS ROMs that others use with absolutely no problems.
As Kaze105 said, ALWAYS make sure you make a backup before you flash. (in case you need to go back)

I am on stock XXKI3, which is 2.3.5, with Siyah Kernel 2.6.4. There are newer firmwares, and newer versions of Siyah, but I feel no need to upgrade as of now. I've modded my firmware myself pretty heavily, and prefer to do all the tweaks myself. Helps me understand how my phone works better.
If you're interested in a kernel that will help with battery, look at SpeedMod, then maybe Siyah. SpeedMod users swear by their battery life. I use Siyah because it has more features, and has more customization. But it's a preference thing.

Yes, should be. Though be careful - flashing some kernels automatically installs certain versions of CWM. If your backup is made in a different version of CWM than what you are trying to restore from, it may not work.

seems pretty interesting the way you mod your phone! and by modding the phone yourself, you mean you take apart tweaks from different ROMs and install them in your phone? I hope im not imposing but do you mind sharing with me the tweaks that you have done to your stock rom? i might do the same if the ICS rom doesn't work the way i want it to.

The more involved mods I have are:
Phone.apk tweaked to have Noise Reduction off by default in phone calls
Battery icon with % in status bar
CRT-off animation on screen off
Rotation animation in UI
The first three involved decompiling the files involved, editing the files, and recompiling. The rotation animation involved downloading some files that another kind soul posted that were from the Galaxy Note and installing them on my phone in place of the files that were already there. All require root. You can find all of these in the forums with a search...

The first three I think are build dependent. Some people have tried different versions on other firmwares and had some success, but others, not so much.
The rotation animation one, I'm not sure about.
Which roms for i777 are android 4.0.4 ?
I am having problem with ICS roms freeze and reboot when connected for about 15 ~ 20 min to Sony cat stereo via bluetooth.
Found out that there are several other people having same problem on i9100 and apparently only 4.0.3 based roms are causing problem. Fixed by installing 4.0.4 rom.
Now, I'm trying to find rom for i777 with android 4.0.4, but I only see "F1 GalaxyNexus Pure Galaxy Experience." I am having hard time installing it because it gives me error.
Are they any other rom with 4.0.4 ?
Otherwise, I will have to go back to gingerbread.

Let me know if there is any android 4.0.4 with close to stock feel. (TouchWiz)

I don't remember or know for sure which TW-based ROM with ICS 4.04, search in the dev. section. If don't like them all, there should be an easy way to update the AT&T official ICS 4.0.4 ROM. All you have to do is flashing/re-flashing the stock ROM 4 times.
Note: you must perform it right at 4:04 for it to work though.

Well, I think there's a way in which we can eventually get a 4.0.4 sammy based rom on our i777.
See, if you go thru latest news on i9100's forum , you'll see that official 4.0.4 has been released for them.. so if we get a custom kernel (maybe siyah or Neak) that can support 4.0.4 for our phone.. then one can easily hailraise the i9100 4.0.4 based rom without much hustle...
but, it'd take few more days for this as custom roms based on 4.0.4 for i9100 are also not out yet.. nor many supported kernels.. but it definately would...
Hope this helps !!!

I have an ATT I777 on the UCKK6 base. Id like to root it. Its obviously still running GB and that base I listed. I know they sometime lock stuff down further with different update. So the question is, would there be any issue with updating the phone to ICS through KIES and then rooting? Or should I root it before? If I root it before will I lose root if I try to update it then, I would think so at a minimum.
does anyone know the most current base, or what it would be that I came out with after the KIES update?

No. This phone is definitely *not* unbrickable if, by unbrickable you mean not capable of being bricked. If you mean can it be brought back from a brick, then it depends on the type of brick we're talking. If you're talking the hard brick caused by the eMMC bug, then no. You won't be bringing it back from the dead.
If you have not already, I would advise reading the post at the following link, then reading the thread related to the mentioned app:

Nicks right. But you'll be fine if u wanna try out stock ics. Just remember not to wipe data / factory reset with that kernel and.you're ggood to go. I installed it two days ago and ran it for a while. It worked fine but the battery drain was killing me. So I switched. Good luck, happy flashing.

If you will root your phone, suggest to use ShishiROM ICS. It has a great battery life.
Im a great fan of task ROM, and then I try ShishiROM. Im using it for 3days now, no regrets. Its a great ROM.
Just try it. :highfive:

No need really, I'm so used to running ASOP like ROMS on my other phones I probably wouldn't like it anyway. I was mostly just curious as it seems that with the base I'm currently on rooting is a little more involved. I was also wondering if Sammy had maybe patched something in the new build.

Ok, so then go through the process to root UCKK6 and then just flash that? Id assume the other available ROMs have the kernel checked for the EMMC bug?
Im new to this phone ans Samsung in general, is this phone basically unbrickable? I see unbricking flashes and things like that

Here is what I would do if I were you. When I rooted mine I was on KH7 so I used DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit then installed Mobile Odin to flash Entropy512's DD 3-7 GB kernel to get CWM then flashed a custom ICS ROM. I went back to look over creepys guide "How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash Counter" I have read it 100 times I just want to make I got you the best info I could.... Give a BIG shout out to creepyncrawly for putting that guide out!!! Make sure you read that guide lots of great info... I did see a KK6 stock rooted package on here 1a. just read up see what is best then just follow the steps..... If you have any more questions just post them in this thread.
1. If you flash the 2c. "Odin3 One-Click Downloader Stock I-777 UCKH7 with Root no BL" link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081
1a. Kernel + cache + rooted UCKK6 system package
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
2. Then install Mobile Odin link (You will need this to flash Entropy512 GB kernel just extract the zImage from the zip file and load it in the kernel slot in Mobile Odin)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
3. Then flash Entropy512 GB kernel to get CWM link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289460
4. Then you can flash any custom ROM you want!! AOKP is a great choice Task650 is VERY solid.... GL link

I personally love siyah kernel and think it gives excellent battery life with all the tweaks and the EXtweaks app. But I'm sure others would say fluxxi, and still others would say neak.

Anyone using dual boot (Siyah) with experiance of trying CM10.1 and going back?
To be able to go back after trying CM10.1, I believe I'd have to create nandroids of both ROMs, but can I go only with backing up 1st ROM? Would installing CM10.1 wipe 2nd ROM?
As far as I'm aware siyah isn't 4.2 compatible yet

Yes, I know. The question is about nandroids.
