well my problem is i accidently (stupidly) installed a rom on stock. didnt boot up tho . so of course i had a back up for stock. but it did not boot up visually . the bootanimation does sound off . but thats it . black screen. luckily im able to use stock 1 to apply other rom. but im need to want to get stock back. any help would be well helpful
switch to stock slot, mount /system and show me what files/directories you have there. i had same situation before.
stock slot was broken after backup restore
ps: to list dirs, mount system in ss, connect razr to computer then run adb shell
cd /system
ls -ls
printscreen output and share

My brother had the same issue with his phone as well... instead of letting me take a look he used RSDlite to try and reflash it and bricked the phone. I am currently now trying to unbrick the phone but I have to be careful that the battery doesnt die before I get it working again... Looking forward to learning the solution to this problem as well.
I did the exact same thing a few days ago... I'm running off of ROM slot 1, but would feel better with stock restored...

Can someone upload the stock backup that they used? I did the same thing but the link to the backup is gone...

I actually followed one of the guys instructions to try deleting .\su-backup from system.ext3.win but I don't see that folder in there. How else can I get my stock slot back without Matting it?

I modified my build.prop so i get access to the games in gameloft and whatnot. i have done this before, so im not a noobie. I did it successfully on my first razr maxx, no problems. changed it to the lt18i. I tried to do it to my new razr maxx tho, and when i put it to lt18i, rebooted, nothing. So i tried to change it to droid 3, via this website's instructions: cant post the site yet cuz i dont have enough posts.
Now i am doing nothing but somewhat bootlooping. It goes to my lockscreen, u can unlock and use the phone for about 15 seconds, then reboots. I cant copy my build.prop backup from the external sd to the restore folder fast enough. is there anyway possible to fix this without a factory reset? i cant afford to lose anything on my phone. Can u push with adb without the phone being on and normal mode?
I'm not sure whether it would work but have you tried pushing whilst in fastboot?
Although you would be using the fastboot command instead of the adb one.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
yeah i dont think that would work, a quick google search came up with u cant adb while in fastboot. I really dont wana lose evrything again. I just lost a ton of stuff 2 weeks ago cuz the verizon guy factory reset my old razr before i had copied the internal sd. I have since gotten my phone built back up again, apps backed up recently, etc, then i make this stupid mistake. I would greatly appreciate ANY suggestions. im willing to try anything im that desperate. I read somewhere u can put the build.prop in a zip and install it somehow. is that true? any to just flash the system partition or fix what's wrong witht he system partirtion?
You won't be able to flash a zip but you can flash system partition using fastboot exactly how it sounds. Just extract the system.img from the ROM that you're currently on and use the flash command via fastboot.
fastboot flash system system.img

I fixed it OMG YAAY!!!! i ended up making a backup of my wife's maxx build.prop, putting it on sdcard-ext, and then putting her card into my phone, quickly using supermanager, moved it to sdcard, and then when it rebooted on its own, i quickly opened build prop editor and hit restore then rebooted, it rebooted on its own halfway thru the shutdown, bootlooped right after m logo, then i forced reboot using volume and power button, then it loaded and worked!!! I thank yall so much for the help anyways!!! i hoep ym post can help someone else if they ahve this problem too
Nice one! Glad you're sorted. It certainly makes you sweat when you're in a pickle with the RAZR especially with the non removable battery

Any chance you could share that build.prop?

Hey guys,
I was looking forward to trying out the new JB Roms for my razr maxx and needed to update safestrap, so I went into safestrap and disabled safe system and went to restore and lo and behold, it can't find my backup. I checked the SD card and it's sitting there under "clockworkmod/backup" but safestrap just keeps telling me it can't find it. I copied over that folder to sd-ext and still no luck. Does anyone have any ideas?

I take it you are coming from SS 2? It is possible that the backups arent compatible. Also its possible that the safestrap folders on your sdcard and sdcard-ext are messing with the new version of SS3.
If it were me I would just remove it all and start from scratch. If something happens and you mess SS up, I would use matts droidrzr utility and fastboot back to 211, then install the newest safestrap from hashcode's website. (How to safestrap)
If you need help with the utility I can help you
That's the problem though. I haven't been able to upgrade to SS 3.x because I can't access my stock rom from SS 2 because it won't find the backup. It's the same backup I made when I installed SS 2 so it really makes no sense. If I try and access my stock rom without doing a restore, it obviously just sits at the boot animation forever.
So I guess no one has a clue? If no one can offer any sort of idea, does anyone know where I can find a SS 2.11 backup of the razr maxx ICS rom?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but SS started using TWRP for backup at some point in place of CWM.
I would suggest using the utility to go to .211 stock. Then root and upgrade to jb.
doing so lowers the risk of loosing root when you upgrade.
And yes since he moved to 3.0 the recovery is based on TWRP since mid-October

Thanks. I guess I assumed he would read the instructions thoroughly when he downloaded the JB update.zip.
I guess I didn't explain clear enough. I am still on an ICS rom. I have NOT upgraded to JB at all. I have NOT upgraded to SS v3 at all. I am still on SS v2.11 and my backup was from when I first installed SS v2.11. I am trying to get back to my stock rom by disabling safe system and restoring the backup that I made. I can't do this because it keeps telling me that it can't find the backup when it is clearly in clockworkmod/backup.
Anyway, so using the utility to go back should be able to fix this issue?

yes the utility will fix it for you.
when i wanted to go back to the nonsafe side(stock side) I would only have to disable safe system and then reboot.
does that not work for you? ss2 doesnt support flashing to the nonsafe side, therefor no restoring cwm backups to the nonsafe side i believe.
Unfortunately no, it just sits at the boot animation screen. I figured it might have been taking a long time, but I let it sit for 30 minutes and nothing changed.

Looks like you don't have a choice.
Use the utility to fastboot to.211.
Root, then use the utility to install voodoo root keeper so you can have root when you update to jb.
Read spc hicks guide in the development section.
Sorry can't post link right now.

Hrm, just a heads up. Apparently 75% battery is not enough to use option 1 on the Razr Utility. Phone is now stuck in invalid flash mode. Ah well, working towards fixing this now.

75% is plenty. You have something else going on. How long did it take?
Ah, I think it was just a faulty cord. I got it back to regular fastboot and ran option 1 again and it's working fine now.

Good Luck!
I had upgraded to JB through the CWM back up that was posted. I reverted back to ICS by simply flashing the backup I had made before upgrading.
...I think I may possibly still have the JB radio installed, but everything is working fine anyhow.

Get the right kdz from above linked thread, then follow this thread if you're not familiar on how to flash it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344
I flashed the JB cwm backup, then I went back and flashed the ICS backup I had and when I did that I went into my file explorer and my 'external_sd' wasn't showing up as a directory anymore, it was simply an unrecognized file at the bottom of the directory listing. I've since went back to JB because of that and not knowing how to fix it. anyone have this problem or know what happened?
You have to do a hard reset in order to get back. Look. I know you are new here but you need to start reading the threads and doing your own research, Good luck.

Do you really have to hard reset after restoring a cwm? It replaces everything, if you hard reset after the fact, you lose settings and data.. But if you're switching back and forth using clean backups, hard reset wouldn't hurt. Did you reformat at any time or just had the sd in during?

Even i wish to go back to ICS coz of the battery issue. Just wanted to clarify whether i will be able to push CWM using fastboot ( I have bootloader unlocked ) and then flash superSU ?
Okay so awhile back I rooted my XT912 and had safestrap 3.11 installed. I do not recall if I had clockwork mod or not.I had Eclipse ICS installed and was happy with it. At one point I was once again meddling where I shouldn't and wiped my stock rom slot via safestrap. I just booted into the Eclipse on rom slot 1 and forgot about it. I decided to try a cyanogen rom and had it downloaded to my external sd. I went into safestrap and began deleting rom slot 1. Everything was fine until, MY BATTERY DIED... After some more work I had eventually ended up being able to use recovery and flash the internal drive so I could use RSD to boot into a stock bootloader. I keep getting errors there. I do have a backup on my computer. I just really don't know where to go from here as I cant even access safestrap anymore. Please help. I have no idea where to go from here and couldn't find anyone with the same issue and believe me I have spent the better part of two days looking.
Wow. Droidrzr. Com they have excellent support for xt 912 and live chat as well. Good. Luck

Hi All,
I have a Droid Razr Maxx (Verizon) which was on 4.1.2 OTA update. I tried to edit the build.prop and messed up. The phone turns on to the Red Moto logo, later goes into the typical Droid Razr graphics and is stuck there for ever (Stuck on Booting?). I am able to enter into recovery, thankfully.
Now can anyone suggest a way to flash only the build.prop to restore it?
Else, can you point me to stock XT912M 4.1.2 so that I can flash getting into recovery?
Or is there is a better way that I could get out of this mess?
Many thanks in advance.
Regards,
Sid

you might want to try using rsd to fully restore the phone. That would also fix your issue. I have done this lots of times. Before you start make sure your phone is charged. Or you will have to buy a USB cable that allows the phone to work with the computer with out charging.
Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk
In order to flash only build.prop you need to be able to start an adb session and then push the file, or use aroma which executes after boot menu manager so it is not a choice since you can't pass from red logo.
Easier way is rsd flashing a service rom so it will not delete so many files.
