[Q] Download sometimes fails, chrome? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
When downloading all kinds of stuff some attempts finish and it says download executed (or something like that, i have another language). When doing the exact same it says download completed.
The difference however is that when the download is not completed but executed the files are corrupt or not present.
Why is this? This happens so random.
Im using google chrome but stock browser does the same.
Im on stock unrooted ell4 but every past rom had the same problem.

I think it's because Chrome is not compatible with most download sites (megaupload, rapidshare, etc). Opera works

Try dolphin, it has a good download manager, with pause and resume ability too

any and all browsers FC upon download

I'm not sure when this started or if it started right after I did something. If I try to download anything such as an e-mail attachment I get a force close and the dowload gets hung up at the start.
I have tried Miren, xScope, DolphinHD, and the stock browser. Opera won't even launch. I tried this all again after doing the "full reinitialization" and got the same failures.
Anyone seen this?
Most (including me) are able to download files with the stock browser.
Clutching at straws here... Maybe your SD card is faulty. Maybe try to a full reinitialization with the SD card removed.
Or better yet, download the newest firmware (2.1.4) and install it through the recovery menu (vol+ while device is booting up).

Not me. I'm only running the stock browser, but I've downloaded tons of things (all my side-load APKs, some documents, a spreadsheet, some photos, music, and even a movie (yeah...like 700mb) and not a single failure or force close. Running 2.1.3, but it looks like they just put out a 2.1.4 update to address Dolphin force close issues.

[Q] Can't download anything with the built in browser?

Stock Galaxy 10.1 3G tab currently used only in WiFi.
Everytime I try to download a file (*.JPG in this case) it starts then immediatly comes back with *download unsuccessful*
After fiddling around I tried another browser (Dolphin HD) same problem.
Installed the app "download all files" same problem.
Don't know where else to look Anyone here have an idea?

i have nearly the same problem. from some sites i can't download. the download starts, but just after a few seconds it stops. it says "download successfull", but unfortunately it just downloaded a few bytes, not the whole file.
also happend with different browsers, too.

Have also stock Galaxy 10.1 3G tab, and have experienced no problems whatsoever with downloads. Am using stock browser only.
odd, I guess I'll try installing a bunch of browsers see if that fixes it.
Firefox works, ofc its slower than the others but hey if I want to download all I have to do is copy the url and...
this sounds like a lot of work for a workaround

No more "http://d-h.st/" links please can not download from phone.

I have tried multiple apps to download from "http://d-h.st/" but I can not. I have always downloaded the roms/mods directly onto my phone and installed but for reason "http://d-h.st/" does not download onto my phone. I have tried stock Browser, Dolphin Browser HD, and Easy Downloader. I am running the UnNamed Rom 2.2.1 with the newest Siyah Kernel and ICS theme.
Thanks for letting me host on your server.

Get "Download All Files" from the market

Works fine for me. Therefore: it is not a problem for anyone in the world
But yeah, Download All Files is a must regardless of whether this type of link requires it or not.
Thanks for the info.
I noted a few reports of it not working including 403 errors but that can happen with any provider.

Try Opera, it works very well with downloads.

1) Post this in whatever thread you're complaining about the file sourcing for.
2) You shouldn't be downloading firmwares straight to your phone. It's the most likely way for things to get corrupted. Plus you should always be near a PC when flashing something new in case it breaks. Don't ask devs to change hosting for your convenience - with the Megaupload fallout it's already a major ****ing pain to find a reliable hosting provider, so when we find something that works we stick with it until it breaks.
oh god, post like these man, they just make me want [i cant say because if i do im pretty sure i will get banned and yeah...] not only are you getting this for free, you also want dedicated servers.

[Q] Flash is malfunctioning?

it seems that Flash, for me, is malfunctioning. If I enter just any website which has flash content, it always tells me I need Flash Player to view that content. I know Adobe said they'd drop the android support, but it was my understanding that Samsung still would include Flash in their Jellybean update? I even tried installing a Flash apk I know works, but neither the stock web browser nor Chrome picks it up.
Chrome does not pick it up since it's unable of using extensions.
Are you sure you included a complete APK (best results are from ones exported from ICS-phone)
Try an APK from this forum, you should find several uploaders.
Flash works flawlessly on stock Browser in Jelly Bean
IIRC, the .apk I've been using came from the Nexus 7 forums and was said to work witg Jellybean. I'll scout the themes and apps section and see if there's one which works.
EDIT: By the way, does it matter if the .apk is installed as a user app or system app?

(Guide) Flash Support on Jelly Bean

This ain't actually a guide but just a sharing of facts.
As of some time I always missed flash support in current Internet browser's for JB, and all the workarounds by installing a modified or really old version of other browsers like an old version of dolphin browser did satisfy my need of having flash BUT it was dreadfully slow or quite not like how it was when in GB or ICS and using ancient crappy browser's was increasing the pain of using flash.
And when almost all hope of decent browser experience with flash was lost, I came upon UC Browser and I happened to be in a site that required flash, and the browser gave me an option in the space of the flash video to install a plugin(please note that I had uninstalled flash player before, since I got sick of flash) , I was like "well whatever I tried every other ****" and when I clicked on it, it gave a toast message of plugin downloading and sure in a couple of minutes I was prompted to install Adobe flash player and after the installation the page refreshed itself and there was blue play button now and on clicking it the flash video loaded without any delay and that was the beginning of my best experience with flash in JB, so guy's why don't you try it out? Just go to Play Store and Install UC Browser and go through something similar like I went through.
Also note UC Browser uses a specific build of flash player 11 so uninstall flash player if you have it installed before doing anything above.
And yeah Dolphin Browser latest doesn't support flash in JB, Firefox detects flash but takes forever to load, Chrome never supported flash.
Edit : I recently found out that UC Downloader HD(the tablet version) doesn't prompt us for installing the plug in for some weird reason, so in that case use this version AdbFs10_V11.1.115.47_Android_pf145_(Build13022810).apk of Adobe Flash(which you can download from the Adobe website), or you can install "UC Downloader for Android" (intended for phones, and yes it works in tablets too but HD feels better) and follow what I did above.
