I just bought a brand new S2, I am using stock rom 4.04.
I noticed in the browser, apps, system etc...when scrolling, the text (but also any other graphic element on the screen) flickers a lot...
I get a really choppy scrolling in general...it looks like the screen is refreshed at a low frame rate...
I noticed this thing immediately, I use an HTC Desire S and an iPod Touch on daily basis and I do not have this problem.
Is my unit defective? Is it a stock rom issue? Has anyone got this problem?
Thanks
Edit: it is somehow better if I disable "Force GPU rendering" in the developer options

Ive noticed this sinse ive bought the phone but i cant see why it lags so much on the simple task ie. when on the home screen it stutters when scrolling through the home panels ( i do have quite a bit of widgets but that shouldnt make a diffrence ) the browser on the other hand is fine? . One other thing ive noticed is that the camera takes quite a bit of time to take to picture and ready itself for a next one? the pictures still look amazing but my freind has a single core desire hd which has the same results instantly? Is there a fix to this in a rom or such im currently running a stock rom which has had the mods so that it doesnt lag?
Possibly bloatware? Try going into the privacy & security settings and do a factory wipe + usb wipe as well. If you bought the phone from carrier, this should hopefully remove all the carrier bloatware apps. If they are still there, then that means the bloatware is built into the ROM and you can't get rid of it without rooting and a custom ROM.
anyway there is absolutely no reason why the phone should be sluggish at the home screen. The stock touchwiz is already the smoothest stock launcher out there imo

The lag most prob is to do with having lots of Widgets remove them and see if it makes it better.
Not noticed a delay with the camera app tbh might be to do with the focus options, you could mess about with the see if it speeds it up.
Yeah having too many widgets might be one factor, personally ive no lag whatsoever.
how do you have your phone set up so i can use the same rom as you etc.?
Bro we hav same prob but mine even worse..item age:1week(without root),1widgets, was downloaded 15 application from Android Market(Antivirus Free,Quadrant Standard,Fruit Ninja,Battery Indicator..etc).RAM status frequently maximum 355MB in use after clear 248-258MB. Setting Power Saving Mode. Rate with Quadrant Standard 3107point. The Main problem are 1)DELAY-(when open application such as clock, calendar, calculator, downloads, message inbox... average delaying 3-4sec), 2)LAGGING-(sometimes open gallery delay up-to 18sec, Playing Third Blade with delay performance, sometimes no response), 3)FORCE CLOSE-(When open new tab with Internet Browser, No Response while Playing certain Market Games-Task Manager status took-off all processing speed.Half Playing of Fruit Ninja, no response, auto jump to main menu...Somehow no solution to fix it....
Hi OP i have the same problem with the camera lag as well....recently ive notice a distinctly longer waiting period for the photo to save before the next shot is ready. anyway i thought it was my imagination until i compared it with my friend's S2 - which was lightning fast when processed.
If anyone have ideas on how to rectify the issue that would be really great!

You have power saving mode activated? Then turn it off!

Hi guys,
I was looking for some help/advise on a way to fix my stock browser on my GT-i9100 running ICS XWLP7
When I go into the stock browser regardless of the setting my display is too in Setting/display/brightness it instantly gets a lot brighter.
So I change to low power saving mode through the settings of the browser and it dims the screen when using browser, great!
However after doing this when exiting from browser back to home screen it's affected my overall display settings not just browser display, weird!
Not only is my overall display now dim and auto brightness in settings/display/brightness is now off but my phone has also gone from a dynamic display to a standard display mode, even though it is checked as dynamic.
When I move between these 2 screen modes now there is no difference at all. Only a reboot fixes it.
Does anyone else have this issue?
Any help, advise, tweaks or mods to fix this would be most welcomed.
Many thanks in advance and also my apologies if this has already been discussed but I spent hours trauling XDA and couldnt find it anywhere.
Thanks guys!

The display brightness of the browser is independent of the display brightness of the rest of the phone.

So does this mean that my phone isn't working correctly?
I'm aware that the 2 settings should be completely independent of one another but it's definitely not in my case.
It's weird that it alters the display mode too so Standard and Dynamic are the same after changing browser brightness.
If I don't alter the browsers brightness my phone is fine.
Can some one else try on their phone? I have tried factory reset, wipe cache, flash new firmware etc and nothing seems to help!
Thank you for your help
Can no one help me?
Surely it's not just me that has this issue.............

Can somebody PLEASE help me with this issue, my friend is also experiencing the same problem so I know it's not just my phone.
We would love to know a way to fix it or if someone else is experiencing the same things.
I would be very very grateful for a little help.
Hi. i have my GS3 for a while now and i just noticed that if i am loading a page on the internet, my screen flicker on the white page till the page loads regardless of what is the brightness.
i figured my GS3 has a problem with white color " hardware issue "
so i downloaded many screen test apps that display full colors. and my screen didnt flicker displaying any.
so i came to notice my ficker only happens when the phone is busy loading something.
i tried to tick the option in the developers option for the screen overlay ? it did nothing .
can anyone help ? figure out what is the issue ? i really dont think its a hardware issue.
i tried different roms but no luck :/
+rep for helps and suggestions. ty
so ehm. am i the only one ? lol sheesh
Can't say I've noticed any screen flickering, but then I use dolphin browser.
ive noticed this the last week or so but not on the white page. Its flickering a little when i go into the bookmarks page. Dont know whats causing it, never used to happen.
Is it real flicker or more like black boxes appearing all over the screen?
If the latter, make sure neither your Cpu nor Gpu is overclocked or undervolted since the issue usually arises with Gpu calculation errors due to overheating (improbable) or voltage problems

Dude, its most likely an incompatibility issue with the custom rom ( am i right? ) you are using. I had the exact same issue with the dolphin browser on paranoidandroid rom. Just install chrome, it most likely is compatible with most of the roms out there.
I've only noticed this since about a week.
Its most prominent when I'm in text based apps - Pulse/Verge/Kindle - with a lot of white background.
To describe it - its like a 3mm thick 'glitch', appears for hardly a few milliseconds - just enough to be noticeable.
Its always along the length of the device, and does not matter what orientation I'm holding it in.
I felt it happened more often with auto-brightness but that feeling may just be a dud.
The recurrence is quite random, but I can easily see it if I stare at the screen for even a minute.
Finally I've never noticed it in games or on home screens - not sure if thats just because I miss it in those or otherwise..
I noticed this yesterday for the first time when reading some text. It was very distracting, hoping it was a fluke deal.
Seconding this. I don't have auto-brightness, but I notice it. Definitely happens when reading text with a white background - so get it pretty often in RSS readers, rarely in gmail, and never in games / movies.
Thanks for the replies..
I also noticed this never happens in gmail or currents. Looks like Google-supplied apps run fine...
This leads me to believe that these other apps are doing something wrong, maybe overflowing buffers due to the massive resolution as someone else projected in another thread...
Have you guys played with either the "Disable HW Overlays" or "Force GPU rendering" settings to see if they impact this issue one way or another?

I second this idea.. please try and report the results.
Since my last soft-reboot, I've yet to see ant tearing. However I'll try those options if I see it happening again. Thanks for the suggestions. Maybe some of the others seeing this can try those tweaks?
Happens to me no matter what app I'm running and has been happening since I got my nexus. Even just happened in the app drawer. I will check the force gpu settings and get back to you.

Force GPU rendering changed nothing for me. Still got the screen tearing. I'm going to try the Disable HW overlays for a while now.
I am currently running rooted MJ7 (Verizon Galaxy S4) and have window animation scale, transition animation scale, and animation duration scale all turned off in developer options. I hoped that this would reduce screen and lock screen lag, however, I am getting pretty pissed about waking my phone and have to wait for 10-15 seconds for any touch response. This happens about once or twice an hour. It also occurs every so often once the screen unlocks and I will wait 10-15 seconds for anything but the wallpaper to load... I have hard reset multiple times hoping to clear the issue. I use zero widgets to avoid load time (however the hardware in this phone should be able to handle pretty damn much anything), and I manually clear cache and kill apps regularly....Nothing has helped... Any ideas or anyone else experiencing this?

Do you have lock screen effects turned off (light and water)? Turning those off really helped with the stutter I used to get when unlocking. It wasn't nearly as bad as what you're describing though... are you running any performance tweaks? Any 3rd party apps that change system behavior? I would freeze any non-stock apps and mods for a day and see if you still get it.

Haha, I actually feel quite noob at this point. Immediately after creating this post I went through my running applications in rom toolbox and noticed one little thing... There was a system cleanup tool running a total clean at every system lock, thus killing all running/background apps. The lag was simply the phone restarting the necessary applications... After eliminating this procedure I no longer experience the severity of lag. Whoops.
